Hello,
I want to buy a K-Jam or M600, but which one is the best choice??.
The K-jam is 200mhz, Is it too slow??.
What about the warranty of both smartphones?, Where is the best online shop to buy one??.
I am in USA now, But I am from Costa Rica and I travel a lot, so I need an unlock pda phone with WI-FI.
Do you think is in the market other pda phones better?
Thanks and regards,
Gabriel Porras
avoid imate
from what i read in the various forums, IMATE warranty repairs
are abysmal or simple poor. So you might get more milage
and satisfaction out of the Eten product.
A.
So what do you said is the ETEN M600 is much better than the k-JAM?.

Kjam, eten etc are not the way forward.
This, sir, is the way forward
http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2806
there is alot of satisfied kjam user, if you can live with the slight slow device when u ran too much prog but comes with a nice keyboard. personally i use eten m500 which is wm2003se device and that itself is very very fast thanks to the samsung processor, it comes with alot of programs which is only most htc device requires 3rd party to achieve so out of the box its more usable.. eten m600 is same but with wm2005 and wifi so its better.. by far its the most stable wm2005 device and faster as well not mentioning it comes with aku2 which support bluetooth stereo profile with the new upgrade when others dont have yet. so you will get more out of it. i like the kjam factor and would go for it if it comes with m600 feature. but i will stick to my m500 now till newer device come out next yr.
oh yea i forgot abt htc prophet.. it is slightly better since its not too buggy.. but processor still slow. play around wit them 1st before you decide.. borrow from friends that own them so you'll know what to expect since they already got programs installed..
from what i heard M600 is faster than the Kjam and its camera may be better. it also has full SD slot, which gives you 4GB maximum storage, while the miniSD of the Kjam only gives 2GB max. The Eten M600 currently support the A2DP and AVCR bluetooth profiles which allow you to use bluetooth stereo headphones to listen to music.
On the other hand, M600 lacks EDGE, Infra-red, hardware softkeys, and a keyboard. All of these things the Kjam has.
Thanks!!!
What is EDEGE??, Is that important?.
I need the following minimum requirements of M600 (to work in my country)
GSM with phase 2 plus.
1800 mhz
No SIM lock.
ADN – FDN – SDN
SIM 3 v to 5 v
GPRS
900 – 800 – 1900 MHZ (for roaming).
GPRS 4:1
WAP 1.2 2.0.
The M600 has all of this?
So, finally. Do you think the M600 is the best choice?.
Regards to everybody.
Gabriel Porras
yea m600 support four bands, 800,900,1800,1900. no 2100 thou(wcdma/umts)
what is adn, fdn, sdn??
not sure abt wap1.2 or 2.0 as the pocket ie cant run wap site in my country as i told them my m500 is similar to magician, and they say magician(mini) dun support wap?!?!?! i dun believe that thou.. shoul b able to achieve by 3rd party even if you cant use pocket ie. so far i still cant get wap/gprs working on my fone since vodafone aust wont give me the correct settings so cant confirm. thers always wifi on m600 to compensate for that. since m600 is wm5.0 unlike my m500 should be able to if the other wm5.0 is able to use wap and gprs.
m600 is after all a much better upgrade of m500

m600 is muchhhhhh faster than kjam.. it is benchmarked to be around same speed as universal even thou its 416mhz.. mayb cose its samsung processor.. so you shouldnt have problem with slowness.. edge dun really hit in my country so dun need it, i dun even use gprs.. infrared is not needed as my m500 comes with infrared but its not the strong version so cant really use it as remote. hardware softkeys can be assign to any button you want as long you willing to sacrifice the other buttons. keyboard well thats the only pro i see in kjam. lookwise they are both nice.. m600 has the black v3 looks that is quite stylish.. kjam is silver all around and nice too..
M600 is faster, but is better than the k-jam?.
What is EDGE? for what is this?.
What do you mean with soft keys?.
Thanks and Regards,
Gabriel Porras
Do you know what GPRS is? It's being able to connect to the internet from your phone without WiFi. Internet speed with GPRS is like dialup speed. EDGE (also known as EGPRS) in practical life is about 3 times faster than GPRS. Where I live, I can get EDGE connection for 6 US dollars a month, that's why EDGE is important to me.
As for softkeys, it's something that is Windows Mobile 5 related. You know how in the Nokia cellphones you have two buttons that have labels in the screen? For example, in the front screen, when you press that button it takes you to contacts, but once you are in contacts if you press that button again it takes you to search. The button is context sensative and you know what it does by reading the label on the screen. It's called softkey.
So, Microsoft did the same thing with WM5 to reduce stylus and touchscreen dependancy. Now, some WM5 devices come with hardware buttons that are dedicated to those softkeys, and some devices come without them. For those devices that come without the softkey hardware buttons, you can simply click on the softkey with your stylus/finger or, like Cutefox said, you can assign different hardware buttons to the softkeys (i actually never thought about this one before.)
Thanks man for the information.
Now I understand. So the m600 doen´t have any softkey. I´sn´t it?.
Ok. I Think we don´t have edge in my country yet. So I won´t have this problem, jejeje.
Is another PDA phone unlock, better than M600?.

??????
you really should base your decision on if you need a keyboard or not
get the k-jam if you plan to do a lot of text messages and so on
get the m600 for all other things that require more power
one isn't better over the other, it just depends on what you plan to use
Thanks a lot for your comments.
When I saw the first time the k-jam I felt in love. But I am worry about the 200mhz. If it is too slow.
I want the pda phone to in contact with my office and customers by email.
We have offices in U.S.A and in Central America. That is why is very important to me be in contact. I need the WI-Fi. But I am worry about the speed.
I had the IPAQ 3955. But I have to carry the pda and the phone. I want one thing all together.
I saw the M600 and I liked to.
So that is my only question?. It´s the M600 very good, is another better?. Imate? k-jam?. You are the experts. Could you tell me??.
Regards for everything.

i have an HTC Wizard and it's a very good device. Today I had to input a lot of appointments in the Calendar while i was out. i was really happy that i had the hardware keyboard to help me conveniently input the texts. i hate having to deal with hand-recognition or little virtual keyboards.
anyway, the 200mhz OMAP processor isn't too bad. Some people are also reporting slowness problems with HTC Universal, which is supposed to be faster. i have encountered slowness problems in the Wizard when i tried to play Worms (or graphic intensive games) and listen to audio files on AudiblePlayer at the same time. Some games (or Audio players) let you adjust the program's priority to the processor. adjusting these options can completely ELIMINATE this problem, which leads me to think that those programs that don't work well, aren't optimized for WM5 in the first place...
And don't forget 200mhz OMAP processor will give you amazing battery life.
I personally think you should go with K-Jam. it's what you first wanted, and it's a good device. just be a little patient if you face problems, WM5 isn't really intuitive.
good luck
Well!!!! what can I tell you!!???
Just thanks to take the time to ask my questions. Thank you very much.
Final question. How about the warrinty, parts, support and other things like that?.
Regards,
Gabriel Porras
another thing i wanted to point out about the 200mhz processor, i think it's dual core, such that one is dedicated to the pda functions and the other to the phone
of course then in pda mode it's still limited to 200mhz
the only major problems with it is if you will multitask a lot
as for warranty, i can't help much there
but support wise, there will be a lot more support for the k-jam since so many people use it
that way when you come to this forum, or another forum, there are a lot of others that have the same device and if you have a problem, likely someone else or a bunch have had it too, which helps since that means there are more people with solutions as well as hacks and so on
The JAM/S100 still has a faster processor than the new Orange M600 / S200 / Jamin.
I've had my S100 for a year now and my contract is nearly up, I am tempted to upgrade to the M600 but not sure it will really be worth it?
Are there any apps that can give my existing S100 the same functionality as M600/S200 ?
Most wanted features would be:
1. Outlook Photo sync and display when calling (I've tried some software but you have to assign photos seperate from outlook)
2. Sync Media files (Movies etc) like WM10 does
3. Push email (maybe mail2web works with WM2003 ?)
Other nice features that the M600/S200 has that would be worth a possible upgrade are:
USB2 (much faster media transfer - or is there STILL active sync bug?)
Quad band (I don't really go away except on hols when i leave it at home!)
2mp camera, (I have a seperate digital camera)
Wifi. I have wifi at home but cannot think of a reason to use it , I can just put it in the cradle!
Any one out there upgraded from S100 to S200 ? who would like to comment on speed / improvements etc ?
Thanks
OK So no replies then ?
I've decided to take the plunge and get the Orange M600.
I got it as a free upgrade and also managed to increase my inclusive mins
from 180 (Family plan) to 200 Xnet + 100 landline + 100 texts (Non family plan) for the same monthly price (£25)
Nice.
Lets hope the M600 does not dissapoint.
I have a Wizard (QTek 9100, MDA Vario) now and a Magician (S100, MDA Compact) before. The Wizard is as fast as the Magician, only the reboot needs some more time 'cause WM5. I have no problems with ActiveSync and Wifi nor anything else. I don't want a new WM2003/WM5 flame thread, but i think WM5 has many improvements. I loved the Metal case of my Magician, the Wizard is thiker and feels not so "stable", but it is also a good device. But the Prophet (S200) has the same size as the Magician.
Ok after long deliberation I have canceled my order for the M600.
I was waiting for Orange to have stock, during that time I have had a chance to play with my girlfriends new Pink Charmer (Mda 2 on T-mobile) and was dissapointed by the general reaction time and that it didnt play my movies as well as the S100 !) - I belive this phone has the same processor as the M600.
SO I have switched to Easymobile as they were doing a deal for £21 airtime for £1, its like a pay-as-you-go contract and I will probably PORT over to T-mobile when the next best MDA comes out (S300 anyone ?)..
Until then I have bought a 4gb MMC card for my S100.. ;-)
Did the 4 GB Card work?
The next MDA will be the Vario II (HTC Hermes), and he has a 300 Mhz Procesor.
Yup memory card worked fine..
it was a
Adata 4GB 200x Turbo MMC 4.0 from Ebay cost about 70 pounds.
I dont think its the actual phone which is slow but the ROM, a friend of mine has a MDA Compact II which I've played around with, which i thought was a bit slow compared to my M600 flashed with Imate Rom. Plus the MDA doesnt have the softkeys as the key config is still adapted to the old WM2003 style.
I also used to have a Magician and I can say that I am extremely happy with the upgrade and dont see any difference in reaction speed (apart from video playback, just need to reencode the video to 320x240). Plus the feel of the casing on the M600 is so much nicer, has kinda a rubber fell to it, giving a better non-split grip.
My feeling on the matter is that, yes, WM5 would be pretty hot, partly because it's more mature and handles a lot of things better, but mostly because it would finally allow proper A2DP outside of windows media player (most of my music is AAC, hence the frustration).
The wifi would only be a big boon to me because I like to use my handset for Skype, and swapping out cards is a pain. However, the different (though, perhaps not actually slower, in real-world terms?) CPU does not run any version of Skype that currently exists (they're working on it, I gather), so that wouldn't really help.
I like the look of the Hermes (Wizard + BT 2.0 + Xscale + 2Mpx cam) as my next handset, though I'm severely tempted by SE's W950i (4Gb internal memory, QVGA touch-screen, thin~).
I think that Windows Mobile based phones probably won't be really ready for the prime time for another generation or so

Skype works fine one my Prophet! voice calls too.
I guess they sorted it without telling me? Man, they're mean.
Also, I just remembered: the Muse!

For push-mail I use VGSMail. It's an imap client. So you need an imap mail account, it doesn't work with pop accounts. http://www.vgsmail.com/ppc/

I upgraded my Magician to a Prophet (free upgrade and £130 on eBay for the Magician) and yes it's a little slower but not so much. In the Prophet forum there's a thread about overclocking the Prophet whick makes a huge improvement when running Skype and TomTom.
Hi,
Please help me choose my next phone.
I currently own Nokia 9300 and I just sold Orange SPV C600/HTC Tornado due to lack of applications. I used to have Cingular 8125/HTC Wizard but I sold it because the signal reception and call quality was poor.
Now I am considering getting XDA Atom or i-Mate Jamin/HTC Prophet as they are similarly priced and have similar specs. I like Atom because it presumably has the faster processor and is 8 grams lighter. I like Jamin because it has a little bit bigger screen, more hardware keys and is sold by more then one company so more choices for ROMs etc.
My questions are:
1. Does Atom have hardware soft keys?
2. Does Atom's processor make a difference?
3. Which phone has better battery?
4. Does Jamin suffer from bad reception and bad call quality ala HTC Wizard? How is Atom in this?
5. Are there any other factors I should consider?
What do you think I should buy? I would be very interested in hearing from people who have had both phones.
I thank you for your time!
Here is what I can tell you based on specs and my experience with the Jamin:
First, no problems during calls on the Jamin.
Second, ATOM does not have hardware soft keys, and I find them very comfortable on the Jamin.
As far as the processor is concerned, there is nothing Jamin can not handle because of speed (video, navigation skype) although some times it needs overclocking.
I tested mine with the free omapclock, and it ran fine at 256MHz.
Other factors to consider:
Jamin is quad band, has WiFi g and BT 2.0 while ATOM is only tri band, has WiFi b and BT 1.2
All in all I am very happy with my Jamin, but this is just one user opinion.
levenum, thanks for your help. I have one more question does Jamin have A2DP? How about with the latest ROMs?
My only concern is signal reception as I had this problem with Wizard. A question to users who have used Wizard and Jamin do you find Jamin gets better reception?
Thanks!

A2DP is implemented in Prophet by installing Tornado A2DP modules (.dll’s and registry entries.) Search the forum to download required files. 2 min. work. Works like a charm! The signal reception is not an issue. Specially with new radio rom 2.31 (look on the ftp for the upgrade) Also you may want to CID unlock your phone for future upgrades and downgrades with cross vendor upgrades. G 3 phones (SPL up to 2. 15.000) are unlocked by “PDAMobiz rom downgrade and unlock” tools. You may want to consider change paging pool size from 12 mb. top 16 mb. to speed up prophet. You’ll notice major speed difference! Search the forum for the directions.
Originally I wanted Atom as well, but I hear about too many problems with this phone. So I’m sticking with prophet. I would recommend reading forum/threads and see what other people are experiencing with these phones and what can/cannot be done with them . Good luck.
I struggled with this exact same question recently...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279061
Those are the problems I have heard of with the Atom and when people who own the Atom tell you to get another phone, I figured that was enough for me and ordered a jammin
I never owned a cell phone before.
I did own a PDA (Ipaq 1950) and now i want something like that but with phone features.
I need these features
-able to be used around the world
-64mb Ram
-128 Rom
-2mp camera
-touchscreen
-Wifi G
-Radio
-WM5 or WM6 (preferably WM6)
-built in handsfree
-at least 4-5 hours talk time
-bluetooth
Any suggestions?
Any suggestions what to look for?
What do i need to know about network?
Whats a sim card, carrier, unlocked?
I prefer something smaller without a slideable keyboard, but if it has a keyboard and its cheaper, i wouldn't mind.
I really like a Eten Glofish x500, but its kinda of expensive.
Hermes would be good..
which one?
Can i get some more opinions from other people?
a few options

http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Artemis
The most robust, at the current moment, would be the Hermes. All the versions are pretty much identical, with the exception of the Cingular 8525. That one doesn't have the front cam. But the Hermes meets all the specs you mentioned.
*** Off topic, but Rudegar, is that quote in your signature a reference to a certain head named Murray?
yep Murray's the man!
Guys check out the new i mate ultimate 9502....top notch specs with a VGA screen,GPS,3.2 MP camera,WiFi,Bluetooth,Qwerty keyboard....blah blah....
http://www.gsmarena.com/i_mate_ultimate_9502-2158.php
I think its awesome....anyone else havin second thoughts on buyin the Kaiser??
Yes awesome but the problem is that I-Mate is behind it. Their old website showed wonderful devices (Ultimate Range) coming mid 2007 but I guess it is now end 2007 and still no clue of already announced devices. So far we only see a new website but no devices.
So Yes 9502 a wonderful device but only if it ever gets released and I am a bit skeptical that it ever will. Potentially a TyTn II killer.
yep
the i-mate 9502 or the eten m800 will be my next celly after the tytn II.. i really dislike the non vga screen on the tytn ii (used with the universal). however its fairly quick and little bugs.
from what i can read on the specs the m800 has a slightly better cpu? i dont know if it really is but the mhz is higher at least. ;D
Well the problem is, it doesnt have a dedicated numbers row which causes a bit of a worry for me. In tytn, you cant take a note down when on a phone call because, when i type it only inputs number equivalents and i cant tap the alphabets!
Hope this problem is fixed!
Btw, i have a universal!
yea i think it has all the TYTN II features and then some.....now the only problem is availability as srmz mentioned....also nowhere hav they mentioned wut GPS hardware is used....
I-Mate Ultimate 9200 or HTC P6500 Sirius or not
Are these products the same and next beast?
No. i-Mate & HTC parted company a year or so ago. i-Mate's new products are manufactured by Arima.
it's got the Kaiser in ROM (256v128), VGAvQVGA screen, an LED flash
other than that, it's 10gm heavier, doesn't appear to have GPS, uses the same Qualcomm chipset
it's pretty even steven in my opinion
Arima??
Arima is the guys who produced the O2 flame. Too bad they did not support it with a software upgrade of WM6.
Guys and gals, I’ve just posted a HUGE roundup & quick review of i-mate’s all four new devices to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1967268
2.8" VGA screen? Doesn't that seem a little small? I would rather have a 3.5" VGA any day. I bet they could still make it fairly compact. By the looks of it, that phone is huge anyways. Why not use that space and have a useful screen.
