Who cares about Android... the point is that some of use still love using windows apps in lieu of cheap and ugly android apps providing substitute functionalities in god's name by open source oses... I LOVE OFFICE I LOVE WINDOWS AND Hate having to use android on Samsung galaxy tab...

Just a quick question!
How do you think Android will stack up to Windows Mobile when it comes to functionality? Android will certainly look better and be much more finger friendly,etc, but will it be closer to the limits of the iPhone when it comes to copy paste (Android has copy paste, but dont know if it works everywhere), email, contacts, and such? Will Windows Mobile fans be dissapointed or feel crippled when using Android?
Ive played around with the Android SDK a bit, but i havent really gotten a definite feeling if the functionality suits my needs

2. No, not that I'm aware of anyway, but you can forward Hotmail email to your Google Account to receive it instantly.

I've had all of the mobile OS's and always come back to windows mobile. Android is approaching windows mobile when you think of the ability to flash other OS versions and wide range of applications on an open system. But windows mobile gives me true multitasking ability like a desktop computer, and windows mobile can be edited and programmed to be something else. Through haret windows mobile phones can run haret and even android.

Yes I'm heading this way too. Android has been quite a disappointment to me. Initially I was very happy with my new Milestone that replaced an HTC Touch Pro running WM6.1. The performance difference was staggering, there really is no comparison between them. However I just find more and more things missing from Android/Milestone note this list is just a braindump, some of it's in Android, some of it's the packaging for the Milestone, I'm guessing you can tell the difference.
No Outlook Integration, I really think that should have been there out of the box, there are third party apps that i've used with varying degrees of success.
Restricted Video viewing. I used to use coreplayer to view just about anything on WM without any conversions. Now through restricted information on APIs needed to port CorePlayer to ANdroid I'm stuck with a lengthy conversion process when I want to put video on the phone.
No contact lookup while dialing from the keypad, I really miss that.
No note taking, or word editing apps built in.
Can't save attachments in email - wtf!! this is basic functionality, everytime I want to view a word file attached to an email I have to wait while it downloads form my mail server.
Can't foreward some attachment types - crazy crazy
Can't edit original text in replies or forwards - this is basic functionality missing
Cut and paste is awful - ranging from not implemented, to badly implemented depending on where you try to use it.
Can't switch an sd card without rebooting - I don't know if this is milestone specific but you actually can't remove the sd card without removing the battery.
Tethering, I'm using PDANet, I don't think there is a WMWifiRouter equivalent without rooting the phone? So I am using PDANets blueTooth Dun service, much inferior to WMWifiRouters Personal Area Network implementation.
Can't charge from my exisiting Solar charger (Power Monkey Explorer), thats a pain in the ass, not sure why it doesn't work.
Facebook Contact integration, it claims to have it but it just doesnt work
Logmein doesnt work for me, nor do citrix support it for gotomypc

can you explain what you mean with real multitasking? what miss you on android?
Hi guys new to the forum and my first post
So I have both OS I just got a HTC HD2 Winmo 6.5 and a HTC g1 Android
To me the Android is a lot lot easyer to use then Winmo. And the Markit place is the best I have used. But the HD2 looks nice the layout is top notch but when I go behind the HTC front skine and in to the Winmo I get lost and it all so looks like my winmo PDA witch I dont like.
As you can tell im not realy in to phones that much so dont know the correct names for the stuff im talking about lol.
If I could have Android under the Htc HD2 skin I would be happy

Why does it always seem like every app offered is for iPod and Android phones only? Everywhere i go. Available for iPod, Android, and MAYBE BlackBerry. It occurs mainly with popular websites "Now Available As An App!". I don't understand why... Can someone shed a little light on the matter please.
It's because these devices have a different interface (small screen, touch operated), a specialized app as opposed to a full-blown website can offer a more streamlined service.
And now i am seeing that IMO.IM has an app for iPod, iPad, Android, Blackberry, or Nokia! Really? That is almost like going out of their way to not be on windows. In a way, i am glad because this was kind of what apple had gone through back in the windows vs mac days. But now i am on the losing end and i am pissed. Im still really considering getting an android over windows 7
WP7 is a relative newcomer and only has a very small market penetration. If you were hoping to make money off an app which platform would you code for first?
The main reason is C++ SDK! Currently Microsoft hasn't provided C/C++ SDK for Windows Phone 7. There are many apps for Windows mobile which aren't available for wp7. such as MS-DOS or Lingvosoft dictionary , etc.

I want to develop an app for both Android and iOS and was considering using a cross-platform toolkit. Currently I'm tending towards Appcelerator Titanium as it uses native widgets.
However, since I only really want to target 2 platforms, is it worth doing that? Or should I get myself a cheap Mac Mini (or run OSX under a VM or something) and just develop it natively for both?
Opinions of people who have developed for both platforms would be very helpful.

iphone / iOS now has "Alien" which can be used to run android dalvik code directly on the device, I suppose it depends what you are developing?
If your app uses ndk I don't think alien will help because the two devices are not the same inside, but pure Dalvik apps would run through alien and this would halve your dev time worrying about cross-platform issues.
I would have said flash or AIR but I have heard aple has spat the dummy again over AIR and flash apps on it's store so I'd skip that.
Also worth thinking about is something like web apps because both android and iOS support apps ased on webpages. remember it does not have to be the next microsoft office to make bucks.
Just some ideas to get the ball rolling
I'm primarily going for a native look and feel for each platform, so although those options are interesting, I don't think they would suit me. Interesting anyway though, maybe I'll use one of those for a future project.

I can imagine that apple has invested a lot of time and money into making sure that iOS remains firmly on the devices it wants it on.

That is impossible. iOS and WP7 are close source so it can't be ported, because no developer but Apple and MS know how to write the drivers etc. etc.
if you really want it, you should get a custom launcher from the market or buy another phone.

There's a way to run WP7 in your android device, not as a total OS but more kind of like a shell. As far as I know iOS is impossible.

In short, no. If you have a choice though, wp7 blows the competition away, and the android windows phone launcher won't do it justice.
Go from android to any other OS it's a totally fail.

Those Debian installs are most usually for a chroot run on top of android. Get a bash window, not likely a GUI would be able to run with our memory limitations.
Some of us would kill for a working version of Ubuntu touch, but everyone else with higher-end phones is still waiting for this.
