My send and end buttons have some how gotten screwed up. When I hit the send button, it opens contacts, calendar and the phone app. When I hit end it opens the contacts app and this obviously is creating problems. can not remap the button correctly through the button mapping control panel item either. It seems my D-pad has gone to hell as well.
I have hard reset the device and this is still a problem. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Any help that you could provide would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
db
Help! I'm having the same problem, a hard reset doesn't fix it.
I'm sorry, unfortunately I never figured out how to deal with this and my D-pad died so I got a new PPC. Best of luck to you though.
Not a solution, but as an interim, you can use my prog VJKeyPress to emulate the send and end keys.
Sounds like a hardware problem. The old ipaqs used to use resistor arrays to detect which keys were being pressed. Sounds like a screw up in similar hardware perhaps? Warranty time me'thinks.

DISABLE XT9!!
I was having the same problem. I was using one of dutty's roms. I switched over to sleuth v3.0. and its gone.. I figure the anti-aliasing on the fonts had something to do with it. i could be wrong. But its gone now
i'm having this problem with dutty's 4-29 rom...i don't have TX9 enabled and i agree it IS annoying!
I just posted something over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391708&page=16 on what i believe you may be speaking about. I believe its a bug with the att 6.1 roms. Its seems many people havent really noticed it yet, and it gets really annoying when trying to text. I purposely didnt cook with this rom to see if the bug was fixed, but it seems apparent that its not!

frustrating
Dayum, i just don't get it!!! so far with every 6.1(including the latest at the time of this post [06152008] ATT 19214 build with 1.65.20.29 radio) rom ive tested, the same glitch surfaces. I don't wanna hear anything about disabling XT9 because it is not the issue. The best way to see this error is to do this test: 1)open the messaging app as if your going to text someone 2)place the cursor in the texting field, change the sip to "letter Recongnizer" 3) now with your stylus, sweep going across only in the lower case "abc" field, going about 2 or 3 sweep a sec(as if your spacing in a text msg). while doing this you will noticed occasionally a line that will strike down similar to lightning! I believe this same thing happens when texting on the soft kb but you just cant see it! This error is a PITA, because it causes alot of misspells when using any other 3rd party sip or the soft kb! Can some of you guru's out there please help with a solution? Thanks!
i have the same space bar issue but i thought that it was hardware not software. also it seems as if my delete key is supper sensitive if i touch a button near the delete key it deletes damn near the whole word. it's really annoying. I have NEVER dropped my phone or anything and i have the t9 disabled.

The issue you described is not really what im speaking about. Basically it can go unnoticed while texting someone, especially if you text quickly, you would think that your accidentally pressing the wrong letters when actually its a glitch thats registering the wrong presses. For example; if im texting with the soft kb or the htc keyboard app, occasionally when i press "a" it'll register the press as if im pressing the left soft key or another letter directly below it, and this happens randomly with different letters and different presses! I've only ran into this error with 6.1 roms only, so far i have never experienced this with any of the 6.0 roms. Also, I'm only speaking about the soft kb or any 3rd party sips, The hardware keyboard works fine!
I really thought it was me typing wrong, although that's quite odd as I was txting without a problem before....
and I have two problems from the keyboard using dutty's rom:
"space key is somewhat lagging"
and,
the 'backspace' key sometimes got stuck in acting as a 'delete' key which is quite annoying. I have checked and it doesn't matter the 'Fn' is enabled or disabled, it just work as 'delete' until I soft reset it.

WORKED LIKE A CHAMP!!! thanks!
Has anyone come up with working solution for mapping hw keys?
I found this thread on Diamond, but no help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398280
I am using AEKMap to enable both latin/cyrillic input on my TP's hw keyboard. You may google it and give it a try.
There is no need for additional software, just follow this post and you'll get the answer. Worked for me.
Try AE Button Plus.
B.
I think you did not quite follow me here.
I dont mean to change layout of QWERTY, but hw-keys like "Back" and "Home" at front panel of TP.
This is becaus I find home and back quite useless and would much more prefer to have ALT+TAB (change program) and close program (REALLY close them, not leave running background as back seems to randomly do).

And that is EXACTLY what i also want to know....
The total lack of hardware-keys on this device is already disturbing enough, but being locked out of the option to remap any of them is truely horrid...
Anyone know of any reg-hacks maybe?
I've got Spb PocketPlus 4 installed btw, and it's got a button mapping function as well...
But when i go into the buttons map, some weird black icons appear with no name attached to it. Can anyone make anything of this? As you can see i've been able to map one thing only: the Spb close-button-contex-menu, which allows me to switch task KW-buttons only....
But this is not enough for me, i need ALT-TAB aswell and off course a VoiceCommand button.
And regrettably the Rapael doesn't have that many HW keys to start with...
I want also to use Home/Back buttons for different purposes, but I didn;t found a solution yet.
Gotten a step closer to what i really need over this weekend:
In the button dialogue (with extra generated buttons by Spb PP+4) there was only one other button that had a name...
So i tried this one and go figure: it seems to be the " <= " (or 'back') button. In the dialogue it's called the OK button. I've got it set to the close contaxt menu now, and mapped Voicecommand to long-pressed answer key...
So far, this setup is to my satisfaction, and after two months of use this phone finaly behaves completely the way i want it to...
Hi, guys.
See my post here:

Lol. I was on my machine all morning and had XDA open in one of my tabs.
Yes, you can map practically any button in AEBPlus no problem.

AEBP will also *learn* any keys it doesn't have. So you could use the "Add Button" option, press your Home key, and away you go.
The way I have it set up, holding down the phone key will activate voice command (default behavior).
But remember, assigning commands to the Home or OK buttons (that "Back" button is actually an "OK" button) doesn't unmap what they normally do so you will always go home first and then it will perform <x>-function that you assign.
Personally, I don't like to program the Home or OK buttons because I find that they are "trickier" to press. What I mean is, if you tap the OK button near it's center or close to the left, it doesn't register a press. If you tap it sort of with the long part of your thumb (which is more natural when holding the device in one hand), it registers it. I've tried this with two TP's now and the button behaved the same way on both. Due to this, I find it unreliable to map anything to it.
In any case, as I mentioned earlier, the Volume buttons, Phone and End keys will be unmapped once you attach AEBP to them but the others will not.
Oh -- I forgot to mention, you can map the directional pad as well if that is your thing.
so it works with SPB PocketPlus ?

It does work, but it sends an OK command first.
I wrote a little utility for hard-coded buttons such as these for another Pocket PC I had (an ASUS P527) called "DoNothing.exe" but we can't apply that work-around here. What I would do is replace the EXEs of apps the hardware keys called with my DoNothing.exe, but in the case of the TP, we definitely don't want to replace START.EXE (which I believe to be the likely EXE (haven't tested this)).
If I find a way to map those buttons reliably, I will let you know, tk_Berlin. So far tho, I've been quite pleased with just using the four buttons I mentioned. The more I use this device and the more I ponder my decision to stay with TFL3D instead of the normal WM interface, the more I realize that I don't need half the add-ons I used to use prior to having TF3D. I am accustomed to very, very, very *heavily* customizing my device, but the setup I have now works great and I really haven't lost nething from my old WM world. In fact, prolly gained a few CPU cycles and memory to boot.
I don't miss the Today Screen at all!!! Now that I think about it, I never really looked at it.
Cya!
I've got a problem configuring iGO8 to use the hardware keys, such as the volume up, volume down, and back key. I know the keycodes for these keys, but when I edit the keybind section in iGO it won't respond to any hardware key input. Did anybody get this to work on his Topaz? If so, how?
I'm using iGO 8.3.2.96054. These are my edits to the keybind so far:
x75="VOLUMEUP"
x76="VOLUMEDOWN"
x875="PREVSCREEN"
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Zoom in zoom out hardkeys really needs
The topic has disappeared onto the 4th page by now, so I thought I might bump it. Can anybody please help me on this? I have done more internet research now, but I still have no answer.
i think its waste of time cause when newer version of igo come out it will support topaz buttons by default.

In order to have working volume keys BEFORE starting igo you HAVE To change screen keyboard from HTC to default Windows one. HTC Keyboard is hooking to volume up/down key presses and iGo doesn't see their state.
How would I do that? I searched in the settings for an option, but I can't find a setting to change back to the standard windows keyboard. I have found a setting allowing me to choose between touch input and a keyboard, but the latter seems to be a hardware keyboard option as is sets itself back. The touch input option is selected by default, it's the default HTC setting.
I have a verizon tp2 that i bought on ebay recently and it works great other than a little issue with some of the function keys. more than half are not the one that the key says it is and others don't work at all, some are the correct key. for instance the ":" key actually produces a "/", the ";" key produces a "\", trying to type a comma just results in it doing a period which is the primary function of that key. "=" is a "_", and on and on. interestingly, all the symbols on the number keys work correctly and " is a " so not all of the symbols on the letter keys are messed up, but most are.
the keyboard is set to english, my region is USA, and the on screen keyboard works correctly.
It came loaded with energy rom and I just loaded the most recent version of energy on it cause i kinda like it and i was hoping reloading the rom would fix it, it didn't. I have looked all over for settings related to this and i see nothing. Is the keyboard itself screwy or something?
you just need to install the verizon keyboard cab, or install the verizon provisioning. it's in the energy rom thread
awesome, that fixed it thanks. If anyone else has the issue and wants the fix I linked it here.
