I am visiting Taipei in October. It would be great if I could buy an HTC there that would work on ATT/Cingular network in the USA. If the units they sell in Taiwan are quad band, will it work in the USA?
Also looking for leads of good electronic stores in the city.
I went there in 2003 - it's a very interesting city - a kind of mix of western and Chinese cultures.
I don't know about the Hero in Taipei but do watch out for the mopeds! They're insane!!
There are HTC stores in Taipei.
They will work, just that the phone will be in Chinese.
You will also need to find ATT plan for data and settings for the phone.
I had a Tmobile sim card and Edge network worked on a P3600i.

In Taipei, when the traffic lights are red, the mopeds congregate. When the lights change it's like the start of the Moto GP!

It's like this at every intersection everytime the lights change!
I already have an unlimited 3g plan for my HTC x7501, so I will be able to hotswap the SIM card to see if the phone will work.
I'm thinking if I will go to China and can I just use my mobile phone and buy a local sim card for it? Will it work?
USA likes to go by its own way (as usual). That's why there are some different 3G frequencies than in Europe and Asia. So buying 3G phone in Europe or Asia make sure it can support USA 3G frequencies or u will end with bare GSM phone.
Find in internet which frequencies are used in USA' 3G. Write it down. When you will be in Taiwan, check phone specification and match your frequencies.
Not all 3G phones support all frequencies. For example Samsung Omnia II sold in Asia supports only Asian and European 3G frequencies. While Samsung Omnia II sold (well, will be sold) in America supports only American 3G frequencies.
Luv Taipei...great city & people! been there 5 times over the years
OP, find out when the Leo is going to be available while your shoping at the htc stores
Specifically, give me some addresses or neighborhoods to find this electronic stuff! I know of one HTC store in Taiwan, but thats it...Hopefully thats all I need!

Is your phone locked? If so, you need to unlock it before it can be used with a local sim card in China.
to buy a such smartphone is easy in Taibei, but I guess they will use Chinese and Japanese network instead, any other compatible?

I dont know where you stay at, but here is a map for taipei metro.
http://www.trtc.com.tw/img/all/bigNH.jpg
What you need to do is locate "Zhongxiao Xinsheng" station, and ask hotel people how to get there via metro.
Once you are at "Zhongxiao Xinsheng" station get out at exit 4, you come out of the stair way the street in front of you is "Sinsheng South Road". You make a right at the #4 exit, keep walking for about 3 minutes, you will see "Bade Road", you turn left there. Take a right on the first traffic light(small street dont know the name). Dont take my word for it, but I do remember there is a HTC store there. If not, I am sure you will find a store around that area sells HTC phone, plus all your pc, electronic, audio, video needs.
There is a six story building called Guang Hua plaza, take some time and go check it out.
Here is google map link with exit4 on point A and that little street next to Guang Hua plaza on point B.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sou....043698,121.533347&spn=0.004379,0.008256&z=18
Thanks, for the record, if you go to the HTC Taiwan site, they have a list of stores as well but most appear to be kiosks...
Cheaper?
Hi, may i know if i buy from Taiwan, the phone will be cheaper or almost the same price in your own local store. Buying from Taiwan would lose warranty. I am thinking of purchasing one at there, but am an inexperienced person who does not know the price.

Hey guys I had a crazy clumsy spell in which both of my nexus 4's fell to the concrete a few days apart and shattered so I replaced them with nexus 5's one 16gb red from the play store for the wife and one black 32 used from ebay. Guess which one doesn't work right - yeah the ebay one. I put them back to back installed 4.4.4 stock and set up the apns for straight talk. The ebay phone has NO LTE at all. The red one with identical software and the same apn settings has perfect lte. I figured it had to be my sim card so I switched cards and the red nexus 5 still gets lte but the black ebay one does not. So it's hardware right? Can anyone think of anything else it could be? I popped off the back of the phone and looked at the spring connections and they seemed to be making contact not sure what else to do at this point. The ebay seller says he won't refund because I tampered with the firmware - rofl I opened a case but I'd like to get this thing to work
What country are you in?. Maybe the eBay is wrong model for your region?
There are only 2 models. D820 and D821 and LTE won't work if you have the incorrect model.for your region.
D820 is North America. D821 is Rest of world

Did u get it? What's the model number and band support?
Same here. Looking for Software DAV-701L...B002 of the international Version. Will only root when i find this Software. Who can help?
OMG! The one from Amazon.es is the real internatonal version! Its was sealed and is the color is titanium grey (much beter than my chinese gold one). Its so different than the chinese one. It has a EU plug HW-050200E01, Google apps are already on it, so you don't need to install it in the huawei store, all the chinese apps are gone, quick start guide is in many EU languages. And thebiggest change is it supports band 20 4G! Also the gift is a dot case in black and not the ugly chinese brown one
Strange is that on the box there is a stamp with a Netherlands adres from huawei, but the is no store here that sells the internatonal version.

Product8 MAX DAV-701L
Purchase Date:2015-10-08
Content:Hello ! Last week I bought a phone HUAWEI P8 Max DAV-701L. I replaced the original firmware with version for China b23. I want to get back to the original version for Europe but we found nothing on the Internet. Please help ! My phone was bought in Romania although the packaging is the origin of Huawei Technologies Netherlands BV, Karspeldreef 4 CJ Amsterdam. So the original version of firmware is for the Netherlands and Western Europe. Telephone data are: ...........xxxxx I need my original firmware DAV-701LV00R001C100B002 The phone is unlocked bootloader! I got a code for it! With more consideration.
===========================================================================================================
Thank you for contacting HUAWEI Consumer Care. That's strange because we don't sell the P8 Max in any Western European country, therefore there's no software available for this device on the internet.
Why did you replace the firmware with the Chinese firmware?
============================================================================================================
As I said in my earlier e-mail, we do not have any software available for the P8 Max for Western European countries due to the fact that this model has not been released for Western Europe.
I can't help you with this unfortunately. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Not possible from my experience with tab 4 7.0's.
modem hw won't work on any bands other then what the device left the factory with.
If you want a tab 4 SM-T239M (the only one with LTE bands supported in the USA and Canada) You will need to buy one from either Mexico or Chile (black or white locked to one of the carriers, Ciaro in Chile, I think Telcel in Mexico), or an Unlocked white SM-T 239M (no black) from Ecuador . Only place I still can find them readily available is on Mercado Libre Ecuador.
For Mercado Libre Ecuador, You need to choose your merchant wisely, no paypal. Either be bi-lingual or use Google translate for correspondence because most of the vendors don't speak or understand much more than a speck of English. Even then, I've had one instance when I specified something like the correct shipping address in email. but the 2nd hand translation to DHL Ecuador by the vendor was really mixed up. The package was on its way to a dhl dist center in Philidelphia because the wrong postal code, among other things in the ship to address had been entered by the DHL associate who accepted the pkg from the vendor..
Many of the vendors will sell and ship using dhl to usa but often only if you offer them an extra $50 or $100 bucks on top of their posted asking price on Mercado Libre Ecuador. Plus you'll be wise to micro manage the whole process of purchasing and getting the device shipped to the right destination.
I gotta say I do love my tab 4 running on ATT LTE bands here i the USA. I wish the carriers would offer 7" Tabs with traditional phones built in (not referring to VOIP) for sale This device although a tad bit slow does everything I need it to do.

How can you do that with a custom rom in the first place?

I would get the LTE variant and sell your old one on ebay or something. Even if u do get a dongle, u will have something 2 inches sticking out of a heavy tablet, u will end up breaking the port.
I actually use google voice and hangouts dialer to convert my tablet into a phone and it works really well. I have LTE variant.

I clearly need to sell mine first, thanks !
So I was in Europe during the Galaxy S8 launch and purchased a European variant of the phone. After I came back home from Germany to USA. I found out that Samsung Pay is limited to the US variants of the phone. However you can use Android Pay and have the advantage of rooting your phone
This is completely false.
You bought a German phone with a German CSC and Germany is not a supported country for Samsung Pay.
A simple CSC swap and it will work completely fine. Please don't spread wrong information without educating yourself first.
Actually, people hve been having issues getting exynos phones to work with all US cards regardless what forms and variations of firmware csc changes were made. Only some work. The UK version has been the only phone thus far to work without issues in the US with Samsung pay
Nonsense.
My EU variety S8 works fine with SP.
Shame only 3 low rent banks support it here making it pretty useless for now.

Are you in Europe? Because if you are, of course you're supported. We are talking about those working in the US. where pretty much all banks/cards are supported
Works fine the US. My phone was originally a BTU flashed XSA Australian firmware and updated everything through the playstore. Of course the next day Samsung Pay rolled out for BTU after I flashed. Oh well might take it back to BTU if XSA is slow to update.
It's not cut and dried. Depending on the country some features and banks work and some don't. For example, most non-U.S. versions don't work with Amex and some U.S. banks. I use US Bank and it doesn't work with other versions of S Pay but does with the UK version. But for whatever reason even though I'm using a UK phone with UK S Pay it's still associated with my U.S. S Pay account. I'm guessing it has to do with the S Pay Framework on the phone and how the phone identifies itself to Samsung's servers which then communicate to the various financial institutions. Perhaps Samsung's been more liberal with the UK version taking in to account the amount of travel between the UK and the U.S. Using a non-U.S. version of S Pay in the U.S. is definitely a YMMV.

34M people apparently. And 1/3 more than Android Pay at that.
I use it because they give me stuff. That and it's cool to watch it work when the store cashier is condescendingly saying "we don't accept Apple Pay."
