USB Double adaptor - General Topics

Hello,
I have purchased a htc mini-usb double adaptor, it was second hand and cheap so no support is included.
Unfortunately, when I plug it into my HTC/O2 Orbit2 the power works but my O2 headset does not work: either in its phone, or audio functions (i.e. as a radio/MP3 player), the handsets speakers are not switched off either.
Am I doing something wrong please?
Cheers, Guy.

htc don't use miniUSB adapters they use extUSB which is a std they invented themselves
putting audio pins on the other side of a normal usb connector
if the adaptor you got is normal miniusb then the audio connectors in your phone will be connected to nothing at all which would explain why it would not work
nor can you do anything about it really

Thank you, points taken.
This claims to be a HTC product?!
The plug has 11 contacts 6 up 5 down.
The outlets/sockets:
Audio/headset out has the same shape and 11 contacts as on the phone, 6 up 5 down.
Power in is the traditional miniUSB shape, and has 5 contacts only 0 up 5 down.
When I plug the headset into the adaptor the amber LED on the adaptor flashes twice.

Tilt External Speakers

I am wondering if it is possible to use the USB connection on the Tilt for attcahing it to external speakers. Is there any audio output directed throgh the USB port?
If not, can anyone recommend a blue tooth device that will allow communication from the Tilt and end up into an Ipod style jack that I can then plug into the Ipod port of the stereo system in my truck? (No factory blue tooth.)
Thanks to all.

Tilt's USB port has audio out. I use 8525's usb headset that I had laying around to listen to songs at work.
Thanks for the reply!
I will try to find a headset. I can then cut the headphones and attach an audio input instead of the earphones.
Can you recommend a brand other than the factory set?
Also, would anyone know where I can find the USB port layout?
Thanks again to all.
I cut the usb plug off my old htc herald headphones and put a 3.5mm jack on the other end. I then bought a cheap mp3 dock with speakers. Plug the usb jack into the tilt and the 3.5mm into the dock. The sound is pretty darn good. The dock works off 4 aaa batteries and gives me 8 hours of tunes. heres a pic with my old mda in it, it works just fine with my tilt also.
Someone should make a HTC dock with speakers that runs off batteries so its portable. I bet they could sell a few.
Adapters for the Tilt/8925 are available all over the web. USB on one end, 2.5mm or 3.5mm on the other. You can get them for 6 bucks here: http://www.tiltdepot.com/
adapter
I have a kaiser and just got the usb to 3.5mm adapter for 7bucks. I have a tape deck in my car so I bought a ipod tape to 3.5mm adapter now I have music and can run tomtom too even at the same time through the car speakers. I like that dock too!

PC doesn't recognize my Diamond on the cable I've bought

I've bought mini USB cable with charging option and charging works great but my PC doesn't recognize my HTC Diamond connected with that cable to USB. It works with the original one but with that I've bought synchronizing data on any USB ports just doesn't work.It seems that PC needs special driver for that cable.
Could anyone Help?
all (mini)usb cables should charge your phoen when you connect it to the PC anyway so i don't understand how this cable is different, could you please provide a link to it or something?
I got a mini USB cable used with my mp3 player and it just synchronizes data with my Diamond but it doesn't charge so not every mini USB cable sync data and charge...
I've bought my cable on polish auction site byt that one mini USB cable is exactly the same.
The problem is you have bought a "charging" cable, I'm guessing if you chopped it in half (please don't) there would only be two wires, a positive and negative.
These cables are designed to provide power only, otherwise the cable would be a lot thicker.
You would want something like this:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/95790
But don't quote me on that or you might get the same problem, ring up before you buy.
The cable you have with your MP3 player wouldn't be designed to charge if your MP3 player isn't designed to charge, manufactureres will save money even if it's on a few strands of extra cable.
There are 3 types of cables I've come accross:
1) ExtUSB -> Used by HTC only. Main difference is that this cable can transport audio as well. You only need to use this cable if youre listening to songs. (Your earphone connector is a true extUSB one) - the rest is the same as miniUSB
2) Normal miniUSB -> You can use this cable for charging and synching. As simple as that. Same cable used by non-HTC devices
3) Abnormal miniUSB -> Heh.. I don't know what to call this, but im sure you've seen some really thin retractable cables. They seem to work with certain devices only. I have 1 and it used to work on my Cruise/Artemis/Atom, but NOT on my diamond. Nevertheless, I can charge the device ONLY. -> I believe you've encountered this kinda cable
Check out the following posts: I've got a solution if youre really onto retractable cables that will sync+charge your diamond:

http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=101534&view=findpost&p=744813
Cheers.
I'm sure I have encountered 3rd case. My retractable cable description says that it is for synchronizing data and charging but as you said maybe it works fully only with certain devices.
I think I will look for USB hub with retractable cable and that I've bought I will use for charging only...
Thanks

3.5mm Jack vs HTC plug

given that the sprint has a 3.5mm jack for earphones, does the standard htc plug (where you charge / sync) also have a connection to listen to music? and if yes, does that then mean that we can plug in 2 sets of earphones? one on the 3.5mm and one on the htc mini- usb jack? i don't have standard htc headsets and i'm tempted to buy a set just to check...
cheers
I was able to test this with my headphones from my old Mogul and yes, it does work with both headphones connected at the same time -- audio from both.
HTH
thanks mate! now i can go ahead and buy a set. it actually provides a good alternative to continuous plugging and unplugging from the 3.5 jack. there is also bluetooth but the mini-usb gives me another option for tunez.
cheers
I got curious and tried it.
Can't figure out why you'd need it, but it works on my usc tp2

thanks mate, just tried it and it works fine as well. as to where i would use it:
1) gives me an alternative to constantly plug into the 3.5mm jack. ages ago i read that the plug connections eventually wear out. not sure about statistics and all though for the tp2. but a mate of mine did return his 6-month old unit for this reason. claims that one day the sounds were all gone. only by plugging in his headphones did he hear anything. he sent it back for replacement and the diagnosis showed that the plug connections were worn out. well in all fairness he did listen to his tunez 2 times a day...that meant plugging in and out twice a day as well. seems the phone was "stuck" in headset mode.
2) i use an i-tech bluetooth set of which i can plug in my noise cancellers. if the battery ran out, i can then plug into the 3.5mm. or, i recently got a mini-usb to 3.55mm headset converter. again, good alternative to constantly plugging into the 3.5 jack
3) my wife =) on a recent trip to canada...of which took ages...we shared the headset plugged into the 3.5 jack. by plugging into the mini-usb, that way we can both have our own headsets at the same time. quite weird to have one ear listening to tunez while the other being bombarded by sounds from the plane =)
cheers mate
Sorry, I did not see the previous replies ...
TP2 uses USB-B for charging and syncing. This USB-B has audio out as well as video out. I don't know if one takes priority over the other (USB-B audio or 3.5mm audio out), or if both can be used together.
Last week I ordered a USB-B cable to output video/audio to external monitor & speakers (watch movies externally) via RCA jacks (Right/Left/Video).
Why not just use a 3.5mm audio splitter jack to get dual out audio? (personally, I'd rather put wear & tear on a 3.5mm audio jack than a mini-USB jack ...). Seems a 3.5mm splitter would be simple clean output method. Additionally, you could use BT-Audio paired possibly to more than one device headset for dual audio out ...?

[Q] Can sensation do AV-out like GalaxyS via 3.5 mm jack ???

can we access TV-OUT feature by 3.5mm jack of sensation..??
on gsm arena, they had wrote that sensation does MHL+3.5mm AVout, but i've never heard of it by any user
Can anyone confirm it ??
BTW : i should go for a sensation or Xperia arC ??
It does HDMI out if you use an MHL adapter.
Phil
I had a quick peek on ebay... Just so I get it right (not very fluent with this) - signal goes out through USB? I take it that sound goes with it, or do we have to plug in to jack too?
Nope you do not need to plug it audio out from headphone. The micro usb to full size hdmi will carry video and audio together. I bought the cable at local electronic store.
Correct. You get video and audio through the usb socket to HDMI.
You can, however, plug in to the headphone socket and sound will come through there instead while it is still plugged into HDMI.
You also need to plug it into power for it to work.
Phil
hey phil, but how do you connect power while the mhl adapter is being used (through the same charge port)
It has a connector on the MHL adapter (a micro usb) to plug in the power.
Phil
Groovy, thanks chaps...
I think I just might get myself on of these toys, seems a handy gadget to have...

[Q] Split Micro USB Cable - Power and Data from different sources

Hi All,
I have a GROM Audio interface installed in my car which is great for using my phone as media player over my car stereo.
However, I don't think it sends enough juice (amps?) over the +5V to power the handset when I'm using navigation - I see a battery drain when using any nav software.
Is there any cable out there which will take 2 micro USB females to a single male plug? One so that I can send power from my cig plug and one so I can connect the data to the GROM unit?
Is this even possible?
TIA

I have the exact same issue with a GROM and Note 4. The GROM can't supply quick charging and all the Y cables that I can find out there get power from both sources and then have a max passthru of 1 amp (probably to protect all 3 connected devices from each other). I may have to try making my own and split out data and power (or mod an existing Y cable by cutting the power leads to the data connector so that one side is data and the other is power). Too bad someone doesn't just make one like that.
