is it safe to hard reset after SPB backup? - General Questions and Answers

My PC windos xp crashed and lost my backed up contacts, schedules ect.. The problem now is that my XV6800 will not connect to my PC or any PC at all. So I ran SPB backup to back up the entire content of my phone.
my question: Is this safe to hard reset at this point and retrieve all my contacts?

Spb backup automatically softresets everytime u backup PIM, emails, or even system data. I ever tried to full backup my device, and it needed very long long time to finish, then i canceled it

What if I re-flash? Its been a while since Ive done that and I dont remember if I lose my contacts, schedules..ect.

I don't really see why you need to hard reset; your pc is screwed up, so you want hard reset to retrieve contents from a backup? It makes no sense to me, I'm afraid.
You probably just need to delete your active sync partnership and then re-connect with your phone. Backing up then hard resetting then restoring is going to just get you right back where you are now.

If you reflash you´ll loose all your info, but if you have a back up on your sd card no problem (of course reflash with SD card out!)

aha, i've just got your point Try to backup system data, my documents, PIM, and emails. Then u dont need to worry to lose those files (including all apps u installed).
But backing up those files, it doesnt mean u can restore photos or maybe files installer in your SD card. U will need another tool if u delete your photos and files from SD card accidentaly. I forget the name for this tool but u can check it here

micro SD data recovery

so last night i flashed my hermes to the new wm6 4.0 after performing PIMbackup. only problem is that i backed up my contacts and stuff to my phone and not to my memory card. i did have another PIMbackup file from last week on my memory card which i deleted just before i did this recent backup. is there any way to recover the backup file that i just deleted last night??? im looking around and see there are programs to recover picture files made for digital cameras im looking for something like that but will find other files as well, there has to be a way please someone help!!!
when connected to the pc using a sd reader all pc harddisk undelete tools work on sd cards just as they do harddisks
Yes ! there are certain softwares,e.g "Recover My Files" software and some others likewise, which they claim can recover the deleted items through recycle bin recently and if the Hard disk is not reformatted after it. I'm not sure, how far it's possible or not , as I have not personally used them so far.
There are also some 'Data Recovery' web based services, who get lost or deleted data recovered from Hard disks but you'll have to send your hard disk to them to get the job done, and of course, they'll charge you for that..
Search through 'Google' for data recovery tools and check if it does the job.
Cheers
Recover My Files is a fantastic software....iv used it a couple of times nd it gets out almost all the deleted data....but yea if uv performed a format u might get back only a few files....but no harm in tryin

Resque Pro from sandisk works like a charm.

[URGENT] Hard Reset and Restore

My Touch Cruise is locked with a password which I cannot find out. The problem is that Hard Reset is out of question.
However, it seems that it is possible to connect it with my PC, and I can explore the folders on my device.
1) What I want to know is, if I copy all the files I have to my PC, and then do a hard reset, is it possible to restore everything as it was before the hard reset?
2) Can I have the same programs as I had before? I guess I had to edit registry as well...
3) I also have spb backup. If I use the backup file I had after a hard reset, will it come back exactlyas it was, with all the programs and stuff?
Thanks in advance!

Anybody used Sprite Backup? How to restore?

Hello,
Ive been having some problems that I dont recieve notification of a new calendar event reminders. It used to show a screen saying if I want to snooze or dismiss the event, however that doesnt show anymore.
HTC support told me to clear storage so that would replace all settings to factory default.
I did a backup using Sprite backup before doing the clear storage. My question is how does the restore process work? If I plug the phone to the computer then active sync will start restoring everything, but I rather used the backup software that restores even the programs.
Any recomendation from people that used this before?
Thanks in advance

did u takethe backup correctly? and if u did it correctly, where did u save the backedup file?
I believe I did take it correctly and saved it in my pc.
Cheers,
If you saved it on your PC, you will need to run the Sprite Backup Manager on your machine, it will allow you to select which backup file and then restore it via ActiveSync. I prefer to make and restore backups directly on the phone, it seems to be faster than over USB. Backup to SD (creating a self-extracting backup with Sprite) and after a hard reset you can restore it right away.
One more question,
If I clear storage, then I will delete all programs on the device.
If a program is installed on the SD Card, do I have to reinstall it when I clear storage?
What do you recommend?

I think you have to re-install most of the programs, because you delete your whole registry when clearing the device memory. Not many programs will work without their correct registry entries.
^^ Yep, however you can restore selective sections of your Sprite Backup. If you open it in Sprite Explorer, you can export sections that you choose - namely your HKLM tree which should have all the registry entries for installed software.

[Q] Will backup work on a different computer?

I am transferring my files from one computer to another, i would like my windows phone to also transfer its sync relationship with the new computer... but would i still be able to use the backup from my old computer??
If i place the back up file in the new computer's directory, would it be recognized??
Thanks
When you say backup do you mean a backup of the application/games data or a backup of your phone (made with the phone backup tool)?
Both of those should still work if you a copy them across to a new PC.
by backup i meant when you are updating ur phone OS, the backup that it produces. I havent used the backup tool yet
I am afraid that if i sync with another computer it wont recognize that backup.... as it could be computer specific...
Has anyone actually tried this?

[Q] Full reset?

I reset my phone so I can start anew (I do it on a whim sometimes). It did delete apps/accounts that I had installed and signed into. However, I noticed the regular factory reset option didn't delete the entirety of my personal data as I can still find folders associated with my old apps, with data in them of course. For example, I had Zedge installed and I can still find my download wallpapers in the Zedge folder.
Is there a way to fully delete personal data? Must I go into recovery or use the software repair option in the PC suite?

Repair and delete data with PC Companion or Flashtool FTF
PC Companion is your best option if you are not familiar with Flashtool
PC Companion http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz3/
Make sure you clear the internal storage when you reset the phone
Thanks for the suggestions. I went back into the reset menu and noticed I didn't check the format device storage option. I'll keep that in mind as I still have loose files hanging about....
