[Q] Is it worth it? Suggestions?

hey guys!
So I'm new to this forum, as well as android. I know of my friend who has a Samsung csptiate, and he loves it. I however just got a Motorola xoom, and was wondering if rooting and putting a custom rom is worth it?
If so, do you guys have any suggestions for roms?
Thanks guys!
It really depends what you want to do with your Xoom and your feelings of your Xoom's performance. If you are happy with what you can do and the speed of your Xoom then I say no do not bother with rooting and custom ROM's.
If on the other hand you want to do more and want more speed doing it, yes by all means root and install a custom ROM. I highly recommend the Tiamat ROM's. It will give you more features and more control over your Xoom. They have a new ROM in the works so you may want to take your time researching your options.
The best advice I can give you is to do your research. Find the how-to guides, download all the files and read and re-read all the instructions. Make sure you fully understand what you are doing before you do it. Most problems come from people making small mistakes and not following the instructions step by step and word for word. Make sure to use the exact versions of files specified. Do not assume that a newer version of something is better or has the same features. There is a risk of bricking your Xoom whenever you flash something, but if you are carefull and follow instructions the risk is minimal and there are people in the forums who are willing and capable of helping.
Honestly, I want more speed. Do you also have to put a custom kernel?
If so, which kernel do you recommend?
You do not have to load a custom kernel to overclock, but honestly if you are gonig to go through the hassel of unlocking and rooting you might as well. Just know that as soon as you unlock your Xoom, you will have to wipe it clean. So backup your data and record what apps you have installed.
I personally have been very happy with the Tiamat kernels/ROMS. I started only installing the Tiamat kernel but quickly installed the ROM. If you install the latest ROM it includes the latest kernel as well. As I mentioned they are planning on releasing a new version soon. I usually wait a couple days after a new ROM is released to see if there are any major issues before I make the jump.
Take a look at this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209341 . This should answer a lot of your questions and point you to the guides to get you as far as you decide to go.

[Q] Need help choosing a rom.... Please read before you flame me...

Okay heres my story and it is true. I have tried a few roms out there for some time now. And I know most are a working in progress... But this had happen to me twice now and I need some help. While on a couple custom roms I would get a VERY IMPORTANT call and low and behold something happens and the call is dropped on my end.... I am bored with the stock rom... I just switched back to the leaked ATT 4.0.3 ICS rom.... Can anyone recommend a custom rom that is rock solid? With all the bugs fixed and all. Like I said earlier the stock roms are very boring to me. Thanks in advance for any help.
Andy
You have to understand that each device is different, your perspective of "stable" is different from everyone else. I'm sorry but best bet is you reading the rom threads and making your mind up from your own experience. I will be locking this thread.
Cheers

[Completed] [Q] Trusting custom ROMS

Hi,
with due regards to all the hard work this forum members have put in creating and maintaining ROMs, one question popped up :
can we trust them?
would it be possible for someone building a custom ROM to place a script on the installation zip that transmits user data or credentials to the ROM maker? Who checks the authenticity of the ROM? Is there a check done before someone is allowed to release their ROM?
asking these, coz most of my banking and financial apps would be installed on android phone flashed with a custom rom.
please guide.
That's a good question. And the simple answer is that if you want to use the rom you'll have to trust them. There is no formal review process. This forum is self policed. However, there are a lot of smart and honest people here and if someone finds something funny going on in the rom it will be reported in the rom thread. That's not good advertising for the rom developer(s). In my years on XDA I've only seen that once, maybe twice.

Regarding custom ROMs

Hey! so I am new to this forum. I actually have an interest for building custom roms for devices. If anyone could tell me where to start this journey, I would be grateful.

Question [TB-Q706F] Are there any custom kernels for this device?

I've been googling and looking everywhere for a while and I have not found any custom kernels. I know telegram is used a lot more now. Seeing if anyone knows of any. Thank you.
