Hello everyone,
My AT&T sales guy sent me to this forum. I have been looking around and searching and realized that I am in over my head to be honest. I just got a Fuze and like it for the most part. There are a few things that I do not care for that maybe you guys can tell me if I need a new ROM and if so, which one. The things I would like to change are:
1. I would like quicker/easier access to my Tasks. I use Outlook tasks A LOT and it is not easy to get to them (not as easy as contacts and messaging anyway)
2. The notifications are not obvious. I was running an 8525 with WM6 and the notification would pop up at the bottom of the screen. I have to click the tiny notification bell symbol on the Fuse, which is annoying.
3. Scrolling is an issue. I am very used to my scroll wheel on the 8525. Is it possible re-map the volume control buttons to scrolling arrows?
Also, dragging my finger on the screen is a pain. I almost always call someone inadvertently when I try to scroll.
4. Battery life is MUCH better than my 8525 (probably due to the 8525s age + the better technology), but battery life could always be better.
5. The ring and speaker phone volume is pretty low, even with my volume control maxed out.
6. I don't like that the screen turns off when someone answers. It is great for everything except voicemail.
So, all in all, I am happy with it and hopefully the short list above is comprised of things that are easy to fix. What do you think, can I fix these issues with registry changes, or do I need to change the ROM? If I need to change the ROM, which one (I have found dozens)??
Thanks!
Can't answer most of those.
#6. Get Touch In Call Screen Tweak
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488991
This is a good page to start looking for answers:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/
Yes - a custom rom will (probably) make it easier to access the parts you want quickly, however some 3rd party apps may give you the same control without the hassle of flashing (however, if you do decide to flash - its not difficult, just make sure you read the guides carefully before you start!
As for the audio volume - (sorry if this sounds dumb) make sure that the screen protector has a cut-out over the speaker. Crazy i know - but from reading some old threads on here - not all of them did, so you end up blocking the speaker & not being able to hear properly.
Battery life - depends on usage of course, also a different radio may make a difference for you. Unfortuantly there isnt a magic one here, different radios seem to give different performance & battery life in different areas (and of course usage patterns)
Re-mapping buttons? google for AE Button - can remap buttons in anyway you like.
Notifications - i believe you can get the balloon preview at the bottom of the screen using advanced config (search for it on here) [dont have my phone with me right now so i cant check what the setting is]
Hope it helps a little and welcome to the forums
Thanks for the info guys. I like the looks of the in-call tweak, but think I'll wait until I get the rest of the stuff and do it all at once.
Beeble,
I admit that I am a little worried about flashing it for a new ROM, especially since there are so many out there. If I do it, I want to make my choice, do it and be done with it. I do not want to be flashing it every 2 or three days until I find a ROM that I like.
As with the phone tweak, I think I'll try the the AE Button one when I do the in-call tweak.
Couldn't find a setting on the notification bubbles. Maybe I am not looking in the right place.
How do I get a new radio? I assume this is a software thing. Does this require flashing? Is it an ordeal to do this?
Thanks!
Unfortuantly you will almost certainly flash more than 1 rom once you start!
You'll (probably) spend hours and hours reading about them and trying to decide which is right for you. Then 3 days later you'll start grabbing random ones and just trying them out!
Before you flash anything you'll need to hard spl your phone. This is very important, but really pretty simple (if you dont hard spl, you can only flash official roms from your phone supplier - once you have hard spl you can flash any rom from any carrier, aswell as custom roms)
This is the guide to flashing and its very simple to follow - just take your time & dont skip steps.
If you do get the flashing bug - check out this UC thread it'll tell you how to automate about 95% of the setup of the phone after a flash (or hard reset).
Flashing a radio is the same process as flashing a rom, although it wont perform a hard reset (so you dont have to set everything up again) - But as always backup first just in case!
Radio thread here - remember, once you have hard spl'd your phone you can flash any Raphael radio. If you want to use a radio from another device, you'll need to Security unlock it first
Backup - you can use backup software like sprite, but if you are changing rom dont restore the old backup - you'll get all kinds of problems! Instead use PIM backup (free) which you can use to restore numbers/meetings/calls etc regardless of rom
If you get problems - or want some help - just let us know whats stumping you, make sure you've had a good read first - and please dont ask what rom you should get without listing exactly what you want the rom to do for you! most roms come down to preference.
Finally - good luck! and remember you have a GSM phone - so stay away from CDMA threads & downloads, otherwise you could brick your phone (follow the links in the guides and you cant go wrong)

I like the O2 ROM on my phone, although there are a few niggles. I'd like to be able to assign the buttons better. Turn off the side volume switches and things..
I do use the Office software. So I would like to keep that.
What ROM is going to fit my needs ?
Thanks
don't believe a rom changed is required
there are programs you can manually install
which will give you a lot more power over button assignments
I've tried a few of these 'tweak' programs but none seem to change the things I find annoying. I know its a very personal thing as to what we like and dislike on our phones.
Thanks.
Any names of these apps in case theres one I've not tried ?
Hey guys,
As some of you might know, I've been working on Solace v4 for quite some
time now. Well, now I finally have a stable version with some bugs. The
thing is, I haven't had any time recently to go through the ROM and pick out
bugs, except for the few noticeable ones, so I've uploaded Solace v4 Alpha
for anyone who wants to test .
I will be creating a new thread with more information when the stable, non-alpha version comes out.
For now I'll tell you that it is Windows Mobile 6.5 with Manila 2D and just the basic programs. Screenshots can be found here.
Thanks guys!
Please note that some bugs are: Manila 2D Sounds page isn't working, PTT button is not linked correctly, and SRS WOW HD is not configured correctly
Download:

Keep up the good work, looks very nice,I enjoyed a lot Solace 3.1...I hope you will finish soon this ROM...
Perfect timing, I have my favorite " stable " roms ( one of which was 3.1 ) to use during the business week , but love to try new roms over the weekend. Will flash and let you know if I find anything. Thanks for the hard work.
Damm,
was checking your site some while to find out when Solance v4 (Alpha) would be released..
now this is it, dl now.
thanks
Fantastic!
Seems like years since 3.1.........
On the download now.
I´m testing yout ROM
It's like centuries passed since v3.1
Looks promising. Images are interesting and it seems to be another "professional" ROM for everyday work. Maybe this will be the reason for me to not trying to cook again
DL now and testing in some moment. (Have no free time to flash and test and flash and test and cook and flash...)
Thanks, mbarvian !!!
Have had it on for a few hrs now and it really looks nice. AE Button took care of assigning button 6 to comm manager and Weather4me. Still trying to get WKtask to play nice with 6.5 , Excluding shell32.exe doesn't seem to be working.
Also the screen seems to be very insensitive to taps and touches. Tried increasing sensitivity with Kaiser Tweaks but still requires multiple taps and a really firm touch to open things sometimes. The taskbar works great as does the M2D slider with a light tap, it just seems to be the main screen. But I am still tweaking the setup, so I am not prepared to blame the rom for this.
Other than that everything seems to be working great.
Glitches so far
Hey Mbarvian
Been running a few hours now and a couple of things I've noticed.
SMS - not working. Sent messages remain unread. I don't know if they are sending, but I'm getting no replies (and I am very popular so there must be a fault!)
On startup 'messaging' is displayed in the taskbar where 'start' would normally be. Don't know if this is related to the above
The M2D music tab doesn't seem to function - it hangs on searching but doesn't find my music. The 'library' soft key doesn't work and the options under menu don't turn on shuffle or repeat or go to audio booster.
Power button/Backlight issue - It's been a while since I've had this issue on a ROM, but when I press the power button to bring the phone out of sleep the screen flashes on but then returns to sleep - I have to press again. As I'm sure you know this problem was around a while, but solved in the end - I don't know how!
I've installed and run lots of applications with no problems, but TomTom 7 refuses to install - it hangs after I select the install location. This happens whether I select device or storage card.
Voicemail number doesn't configure in the dialer (just being picky now)
Red end button doesnt return to M2D home when pressed (I know you are a perfectionist!)
Volume control isn't available under notifications - had to install 'setvolume' and map.
That's it for now! - I'll have to reflash to another ROM until there is a fix for SMS bug as need this working. Be waiting to flash back after though.
I flashed stock ROM and radio before flashing - radio updated to the same as my signature.
hey man, nice to see u got ur alpha booting again... Im sure its much more improved than the one i tried out
if i get the time, i might give it a test, but no promises
keep up the good work and hope u accomplish ur goal of perfection
Another Solace Rom
Will try it out later today
Well been using for almost a day now, I can confirm all that brandall has pointed out, except I am not getting the double push to wake up bug.
I too flashed stock before flashing and unfortunately SMS is a biggee for me also, my kids seem unable to ever dial a phone, so SMS is the only way they communicate with me. Because of course walking from room to room in the house is too much of an effort when you can just text from the bedroom to the kitchen. But off-topic
Will need to switch for now but will be back when sms is fixed to explore further and again, thanks much for the effort, all the chefs put in a lot of time and it is appreciated.
little review
As everyone was saying the text messages don´t work for me either. This isn´t a big deal for me because I don´t text much anyway. I can confirm that everything brandall reported doesn´t work for me either including the double power button push. I had the same issue with Solace 3.1 ever since I started using it so I kinda got used to it already.
However, I was unable to start the camera or bluetooth.
Please someone confirm that this isn´t just my fault.
Before flashing v4 alpha I flashed Kaiser_HTC_ASIA_HK_WWE_3.34.721.2.
Still love this ROM and will use it untill the final v4 is out :-D
...ohh...very big problem is SMS all day I´m waiting for my test sms...unfortunately sms still doesn´t arrived thereby this ROM is for me unusable
and I agree with brandall
So I respect your hard work.
Wow guys sorry for putting out a version with so many bugs. Ill try and fix them but some of them like the power button issue I have no clue on. If any chefs would like the share some solutions to these problems, please don't hesitate to speak up
Thanks for the feedback though
I'm always interested in your work, but reading SMS issue, I have to hold back for awhile. no offense, but SMS is primary for me.
One question, you mentioned WM 6.5 but the screen shot shows Start Menu & Setting look like WM6.1?
Seems the M2D you use is not latest with weather on Home screen. Is that by choice?
Hi,
I'm really excited about this, I put reply here so I can set the Thread Subscription and get all new replies to my inbox, do not know any other way of doing it other than writing a message.
I would love to test this one but unfortunately too busy at work now - can't wait for the full edition, I haven't used stayed with any other rom other than the solace 3.1 since I started to learn stuff from this site. so thanks !
Sorry for adding some more but found out that the sound control isn´t working In the Settings tab in Manila after clicking on the sounds icon, only blank menu pops up.
Also the battery indicator is showing only the decimal value like 100%, 90% 80% ... not showing the exact value so for example from 60% it jumps straight to 50%.
Opera browser 9.7 doesn´t even load, moreover it freezes the phone. However the Opera Mobile 10 Beta and also Opera Widgets work flawlessly.
The power button issue seems to be happening on more than just your ROMs and what I´ve found it´s Microsoft´s fault - here but the suggested cab doesn´t fix anything, at least not for me
The solution is simply holding the power button a little longer (which I cannot blame any chef for not doing this for me every time I need it ).
Mbarvian, please don´t take this in a bad way, I appreciate your work and since Solace 3.1 haven´t found anything better. Just trying to help...
I'm having the same errors as with v3 with sound, text/mms, random resets, browser doesn't function at all, sound icon still doesn't work, can't remap buttons, etc
I appreciate Mbarvian's efforts and when the Rom is ready I'll try to use it again but some of us can only wait so long, and unfortunately using a ROM where text msging doesn't work isn't possible.
I have the correct and updated SPL/radio as well.

There's really no need to apologise! We appreciate your efforts.
If you knock up an SMS fix I'll jump back on the ROM to further test - I need SMS working though due to the masses of girls that text me.... I wouldn't want to let them down...
Or maybe I made that up.
Look forward to your update!
I'm seeking some help on a question that I'm sure has been answered here previously.
Having been a regular member on other forums, I know how frustrating it is when outsiders show up and want to leach off the knowledge of those who are down in the ditches of an interest day in and day out.
And that's a fair point. I'm not interested in being a leach, but right now I don't have the time to learn something new, and I need my phone to run better. The flip side of that, is that if someone is willing to take 5 or 10 minutes to spoon-feed me through some basic questions, I'll paypal you $5 for the effort. Is this an ok / not skuzzy way to go about it?
Anyway - here's my situation:
1) I don't fully understand the distinction between a Mod, Rom, and Kernal. I've run Darkys, Bionix, HoneySomething, and Trigger (which I believe are ROMs), and Clockwork (which I believe is a MOD), and I've seen some of these combinations boot up with "Overstock" (which I think is a Kernal)
2) The reason this matters right now, is that I own a Vibrant, and it just won't work properly (including when running the stock 2.2 from Samsung)
3) I basically just want my phone to work, all of it, without lag, slowness, and a frustrating UI experience. Trigger has been the closest, but it's slow and lags (1200 Quandrant Score). Honey*Something* was the fastest and smoothest, but I lost haptic feedback on everything other than keyboard typing (so, no haptic on home etc).
4) What matters to me:
- No lag. I don't care about quandrant score if this thing will just work - register key presses WHEN I PRESS THEM, not half a second later
- Haptic feedback remains working on all button presses system wide (capacitive touch buttons, keys, back, home, pressing application icons, etc)
- Everything works that should - like GPS, etc (I've never had GPS problems on this phone - but just mentioning it since a lot of people seem to).
- I like Trigger's behavior of a double-home press zooming out and showing all home screens so that you can navigate between them quickly.
So - can someone basically spoon feed me "Get this rom, plus this, plus that, and you're golden?" It's a legitimate offer. I know it's only $5, but I figure for someone who's doing this all the time, it'll take you 10 minutes to explain what I should get in a few emails back and forth - and you'd be saving me a few hours that I just don't have right now.
hello,
as far i know the battery life on raph is that bad because of the LCD-driver. since nobody knows how to switch the LCD off - and back on again - the LCD is just dimmed - but stays on.
... of course this consumes battery a lot ...
i'd like to help - if i can ?
- i am a developer (but never developed for (xd)android so far)...
- i have a raph
- i have basic (xd)android knowledge
can somebody tell me, where to start ?
what exactly do we need ? the correct hardware registers / arm-code to handle it ?
Wouldn't it make sense to try on WM first - developing arm-code - without win-api of course.
WM has one advantage: i can test faster - since i don't have to reboot to android all the time.
so i need:
- i need to know, what the xdandroid developers already know about this topic - as far i know, they have the code to switch off - but not to switch on.
- i need a quickstart guide how to setup a "xdandroid development environment".
thank you!
Some thoughts
Baal, good look with your try. I'm sure many people will pray for your success -I'm one of them.
I don't have enough time to try to do that, but I spent many hours thinking about the problem. What I'ld do is:
Try to capture all the operations that WM does diring a sleep-on/sleep-off process, specifically registry modifications, internal calls, etc. Also try to save the status before and after, in case they depend on some kind of previous initialization.
I'm not sure if developers didn't get that information or do have it but didn't know how to implement it. Ask in the XDandroid development list.
If you have to do that, maybe you can use some kind of emulator, but probably you'll need to get a system debugger on your phone.
Modify the android module to do the same operations.
Here, both XDandroid Development List or other android developers should help you a lot.
In this part, you'll have to reboot many times...
Good luck! And keep us informed, please.
Well, this is a kernel issue. Unfortunately there's no "how-to" on the kernel sources...
The Getting the Source page is about the system image unfortunately.
Here's the GIT repo for the kernel code.
As for the rest of it, I don't know how to help you. I don't know how they shut the panel down, and as you know, no one actually figured out how to shut the screen back down. Hopefully someone else chimes in about the other information you requested.
Please keep us updated...
Hi, Baal_zebuz
I know it's been a short time since your intentions were declared, but, do you still keep them and you're working on it, or you already abandoned the idea -no matter the reasons, time, difficulty, etc.? Just to keep the hope's flame lighting or switch it off.
Thanks in advance!
Uhm... I use xdandroid in Raph100 and if the chargher is disconnected, the backlight os turning off after few seconds. I've downloaded the last one from xdandroid.com
Maybe I am OT, in this case I apologize

Brightness is set to 0 and the backlight is shut off. Unfortunately the panel itself is still drawing power, and sucking battery life. No one has sorted out the proper kernel code to deinit/reinit the panel.
I have this weird small ring that makes my touch screen act very strange. What happens is when I try and do something on the screen, this weird ring will move around the screen instead. It does track my directions properly (when I move my finger to the right, it also moves to the right) but the actual location of the ring isn't under my finger. I need to know how to deactivate it. It is very hard to explain, so I attached a picture of it instead. This isn't the small dot that you can activate in Developer Options that follows your touch. I know that much.
I'm sorry if this was posted in the wrong forum, but bashing me and calling me a noob, or what have you, won't help me or you!
Doesn't seem to be an issue with the screen hardware. Please provide more details like which device and what model, which ROM and what all you did, when it started, etc.
check developer options
The device is an ancient Xperia X10 with PAC-man ROM JB installed.
This problem started when I installed CrossBreeder.
I flashed it through CWM, no problems. Booted and everything, but when I wanted to unlock the device, then this ring appeared.
I checked the build.prop to see if anything looks astray, but nothing looked out the ordinary (I can still navigate with great difficulty )
I already said that Show Touches isn't checked in Developer Options (and it doesn't have this type of effect anyway)
The ring works very similar to using a trackpad on a laptop (basically exactly like using a trackpad, just replace the mouse pointer with the ring!) My input area for actual screen selections is restricted to the ring. Where the ring is, is where I can make a selection.
I luckily had a newish nandroid backup, so I restored it. I just want to know what I can do so that this doesn't happen again, when I flash CrossBreeder for a second time (that is if I want to flash it )
I suggest you ask about this issue in the CrossBreeder thread here on XDA. See if some other members have had similar experiences.
No idea why I didn't think about that. Thanks a dozen
Remember, we all were a noob once. Maybe twice, but definitely once
Edit: I posted it here because I thought I would gain a larger audience (therefore problem would be solved faster)
