I searched around and haven't seen a thread about this yet but I think we should look at the slowness of the plugin. I know that on my G4 which was OS flashed to Crossbow it's totally bogged down now. Seen some reports of others. Is this a memory leak or conflict or just a case of code needing to be optimized? I've tried a few different configs so far but can't get past it.
ive noticed the same thing about mine. mines a g3 and it was very fast before but now its slow as heck after i installed the plug in. im not sure how to fix it. just confirming the problem on another phone.
It's fine on my HTC Touch

Fine on my hermes too...
small lag on prophet, when i press the softkeys....But overall phone speed is ok!
Processors
Hermes has a 400mhz processor, so it should be ok on there!
However, I have a Wizard, which is only 200mhz, and it is absolutely crawling using this plugin!! But it's (as far as I know) the same processor as the Touch, so what is it that's causing it to run so slowly?

I think the problem is with the access to \windows\ folder, try to open the folder and see how many time it takes...
The only problem I have with that theory, is that I assume the HTC Touch doesn't run this slowly all the time, yet that has the same processor as the Wizard and must have the same amount of files in the Windows foler?
Hermes has a faster processor, and Prophet is probably similar in design to the Touch, so they might mask the problems a bit better than the Wizard I guess. But there must be some way of making it run faster!
Already done it.Without HTC Home Plugin 5- secs, with the plugin 10+... I don't use the weather item,so i'm going to delete the weather pics.... and i will post results...
Same thing...lag... BUT i hard resetted, then installed HTC Home Plugin, and it was running full speed!then installed the HTC Touch pad and lag again....
Lagging on wizard G3
I have a G3 wizard and I'm having an incredible slowdown (both reboot and executions)
I installed the Home plug, comm man, dial pad (directly after the flash) and then installed spb pocketplus and netfront! That's all..
I can access the /windows folder in +/-13 secs
I reverted to my previous backup without the new HTC apps, and WOW!
Windows folder shows up almost instantly. Everything is alot smoother than with the Touch today plugin. But it is uglier as well.
What ROM is everyone using? Has anyone installed this on faria or most beautiful?
I know on Crossbow it slows down with just the today plugin installed.
Homeplug disgustingly slow on prophet here (latest Pdaviet rom, 234mhz), ....And then after I put the touch dialler on as well....Ugh! ...
ended up having to keep soft resetting just to stop unwanted dialling from tapping!
Interesting about the windows folder as for me, xp is taking forever to open this folder too. Looks like a hard reset is due....then I'll try again

In fact, it seems every Touch application (dialer, htc home plugin, maybe even the sound manager?) slows the device a factor, but the home plugin is the worst.
I played with installing and uninstalling them after a hard reset. I agree it seems like the fuller the \Windows folder, the slower the device, but indeed that makes no sense.
Using Faria's latest, err, lets call it "10.1.0.811 WWE" on my Wizard. XM6?

it has tons of pngs that it loads into the /window folder which lead to the explorer taking a lonfg time to open it
Just wanna report the same slowness on my MDA Vario [email protected] wonderfull XM6. But the looks are great, the slowlyness sucks. So does this mean that the plugins have to be optimized or can it be done through the registry?
After hard-reset I installed Dialer, and the phone was sluggish again, even without the today homeplug...
I guess it also has something to do, like already was said, with the graphical aspect of it. Many png's in the windows folder which are loaded for displaying everything that nice.
will one of you see if chabging the attributes of the png (to hidden,system,...) will change anything?

My windows folder is taking 31 sec to load up. I made all png files (about 1.4 meg worth) both hidden and system. Windows folder still takes 30 seconds to load. General responsiveness of the device did seem to get faster but I can't tell if it's that or the fact I flashed the official MS WM6 rom. Seems like since the plugin still references them it's taking up resources. Any way we can pack those into the plugin exe or would placing these in rom or extended rom speed up the process?
The plugin with official wm6 seems faster then xm6. Not talking smack, just an observation. I can't try NBD 7.0 since it won't flash properly but I've heard that's the fastest w/ plugin so far.
has anyone every cooked a custom ROM for the wizard for PDA use only? Most kitchens tend to include all the phone-related files, since obviously it would be used as a phone/pda.
I just recently upgraded to the Wing for $50, so I figured I can still get a LOT of life out of the ol' Wizard with WM6 on it. Was just wondering what would be a good ROM to maximize the inbuilt space for PDA-use only progs. (it does function well for simple portable gaming and mp3/video player) Of course auto-updating programs wouldn't be useful, since the phone wouldn't have a sim card to use to connect to gprs/edge...
[update] perhaps this is a very nonsensical thread...since rethinking the whole situation, the wizard isn't a phone that can free up space, because you dedicated less space to the rom...(i think the hermes was one that was referred to with that capability)...[/update]

do not be fooled by new touch releases, then...
it is waste of space and idea loss.
start from...xplore 1.1 then you will have...overall sight of wizard potential.
then, you will find kitchen...
then add tcpmp + plugins(0.81 + wise plugs),
then try gsplayer and DO NOT touch...touch.
golden era's dead,imo.
(you may kick me...but NOT in head)..plz.
yeah i figured touch would be a waste of space, but in general, have you or anyone ever built a custom rom, removing all the phone app related files? i think it took a few megs or so in the sys folder, if i remember correctly. Probably wouldn't hinder the use of the phone as a pda??
ahh, i figured out, what you need...
soft is not whole thing; if you want to get some space..., it may be good idea to remove:
- stk service,
- second one,
- radio/phone drivers,
- camera driver(~3 mb mem more, and >3-4.5 mb rom space more),
- wlive, if you aren't slave of the BIG one,
- optimise caches,
- do NOT try to use roms/kitchen roms with 8-10 pos kaiser ****(connmgr...)..
- if you do not need bt, wifi, you may want to remove its drivers too(drivers, files, and reg), you may try to kill whole connmgr in such case(deletion of whole thing in kitchen, hklm/init, files, etc),
- if you do not need java - remove midlet thing,
- remove mms,
- theres MUCH more to do...then(and i mean it).
you may take a look what potential have old roms for custom(i mean CUSTOM) build...
http://mobione.pl/forum/index.php/topic,663.0.html
despite using(rarely) phone module...
i can guarantee, that wizard will be MUCH better than you saw in that post with disabled phone module, just there's no possibility, that will be slower, than this.
i can say ,that wiz may have ~40-41 mb mem free, and whole storage free after such cuts.
then, you may use double_ofour's kitchen to make whatever you want to do....only thing is to find GOOD base rom, or good EDITABLE flash ROM(i mean RGU dumpable). xplore1.1 is good base for experiments, but mr.frazz's and double_ofour's roms are best for such things(i mean old ones, at last..). 1413 is most useful, imo.
----
sorry, masters of roms edit..it is just like i see weak wiz... it does not need new, 400mhz+ soft.
it is wizard.
sorry for bad english....
[update]
after your [update] i think it was not neccesary what i said.......
...
good luck, where is that new iphone skin, then...
lol...i think i'm gonna try to cook a rom without all those drivers anyway...perhaps keep the wifi aspect...just so that i can use it as a tablet-pc-like device around the house...surf the internet or im for free...well...assuming that it all works without the use of a simcard...since it's really not going to be dialing out anywhere. if so...cooking the roms without all that excess will supposedly free stuff up, since there'd be less files in /windows directory...it'll free up some ram, so that i could run the ol' gba/nes emulators...so...it might be worthwhile to cook something very bare...just for those needs...and removing the phone files...does free up a few files...and definitely that extra space...which could then be used to implement some basic files for definitely convenience...
just think why i am keeping >34 mb mem free possibility(yes, 32 mb gba translated to english mother 3 rom......).
simpliest thing is to use xplore 1.1, core kitchen(old one), remove camera drivers(hklm/drivers builtin /camera , cameradriver).
nothin more..
you may just remove poutlook, wifiinit, and other useless thing from /winodws/startup, and use wise(i mean wise) cache management( sd card =128 kb, cache mirror 128 kb, sound cache stripped to 256 kb,, glyphcache to 131072, and that's all....
you may get 36-38 mb mem free w that method w/o problem.
whatever you gonna do, good luck....

Almost all the latest version wm6 custom builds have a separate "Vanilla Rom" for kitchens and cooking. It's not possible to have original official Microsoft Wm6 Base Rom for download. The Base Roms available are all ported from official Roms of carrier's and vendors.
Besides, either install WinXP or partition and 'Dual Boot' WinXP on the same PC and HD.
how can i get these roms?
how can i get these roms i mean to fit into the wizard help me make one plz
See my signature.
I'm running it on T-Mobile, but its generic - not built specifically for that carrier, and should work on any CID-unlocked Wizard.
Its fast, stable, and works.
Would you be willing to give a few details?
This sounds interesting. Would you be willing to give a few essential details: what app's are built-in, the amount of memory left, OS version?...
Thanks, man.

Sure... base is 5.2.1933; I'm running Radio 2.25.11, but that is NOT in the ROM.
Builtin:
Standard games
Esmertec Java
Adobe Reader
Camera
Comm Manager (10 button)
Internet Sharing AND DUN
Standard WM6 VOIP
SmartSkey
Other standard utilities (e.g. Windows Media, etc)
Advanced Config 1.0 (0.9 blows up with enhanced comm managers)
Windows CE Update (never seen anything yet, but the tool is there)
Enhanced WM6 Task Manager
Total Commander
OXios CloseApps/Hibernate
ClearTemp
Enhanced Contact Manager
MMS
Its a fairly vanilla ROM.
I have a lot of stuff I load from CABs as well, including HTC Home, BatteryTool, VoiceCommand, TomTom6, etc.
There's almost no storage memory used in the base load; I've got some stuff in use now as I have a bunch of CAB-loaded (and PC-loaded) stuff.
The only "bugs" I am aware of is that I've got issues with the MMS tool (configuring it - if I load the T-Mo CAB for MMS it works but that screws up connections when on sync) and during a call "directory info" isn't on the call status screen. The latter I'm not certain of the cause of, but I'm looking for a fix for that.
The really cool change I've noted is that it is 100% reliable at "ringing through" calls while data is being run. Not just with GPRS up, but with actual data transfers underway. I can be watching ORB'd TV and if someone calls the phone rings - every time. This has never, never worked before on any of the other ROMs I've used.
In addition the battery life is amazing. I've never left the phone with WiFi enabled unless in active use because it used to EAT battery power. With this ROM consumption is easily 30% better than with the others I've run. Not sure why the huge difference, but it is major - I used to run the battery basically flat in an hour watching ORB over EDGE, now I get nearly double that without a sweat. Its a BIG difference.
I'm on T-Mobile; YMMV.
I've played with a LOT of the different builds on here and all have been incredibly frustrating to one degree or another. This is the first WM6 load I've had on my Wizard that I actually LIKE.
I can build with other apps "builtin" but in general there's not THAT much that I want that's not in there or that I don't have as a CAB on my storage card, so loading from a CAB is pretty quick and painless anyway, since its only done once.
its a munn tho i dont want pplz looking at the app data saying mun
Thank you
Thank you. This sounds great - I'm going to try it. Have been running an NTS ROM for a long time now (similar idea), perhaps it's time to try a new one...

Cool, i like your description for this ROM, i JUST flashed my first wizard for the first time up to the recommended T-mobile 2.26 and was looking for something to replace it, wm6 preferred, but stable, fast, and not bloated. I will be trying this out, for wizard G3's right?
got it running, runs pretty good. two problems:
Pocket office is broken.
I can't get the task thing where I supposedly hold down the X to exit a program completely to work, what gives?
I'll look at office.... I have a second copy of that package - let me see what's up with that.
The "Hold X" thing is BS. Smarskey is in this load; hold the right soft key ("Contacts" at the top screen, but anywhere) to close a program instead of minimizing it. That's what I've used since WM5 and I VASTLY prefer it to the other hacks.
Let me play with this some and I'll post something here.
I have the Office problem and the "no call detail during a call" problems resolved; working to verify that all the other packages don't interact badly with the fixes and then will post here with a new load.
It may take me a day or two to go through all my regression testing.
OK, it appears to be fixed up. New load available on my Signature and I've started a thread for it.
There are a few more tools in this one.
I just want to note that I ended up having to flash to TNT 1933 during thanksgiving week (was in D.C. as well on vaca) because i found the ROM to be really unstable. Had to do a lot of soft resets, hard reset once, nowhere near as much as this TNT rom, but the TNT isn't perfect either.
I did like the ROM, but the stability wasn't there for me for somereason. Right now i'm having an issue with not getting voicemail notifications :/
I used Genesis3's baserom and made it my own with the proper props to him in my thread. he fixed the 1933 build and i just added ****

Balderdash! See here for the MS base ROM for the Wizard. This was apparently a late development ROM used on the Wizard for development purposes (internally called "Dogfood"). You'll have to extract it in HyperCore Kitchen. It's definitely the only MS base ROM ever made for the Wizard. I've made some minor changes to make it a bit more usable in base form, but everything else is the same.
I have tried all the known proxy tweaks to release memory on Sprints new rom and non of them seem to work.
Does anyone know of any other tweaks I can make to force Sense 2.5 to release more memory? my phone hovers at 75-80 % after a full day of use. And i hate that it closes my programs when it reaches around 85 or 90%.
So i can't have Kinoma and Opera open at the same time, it just gets to me!!! aggghH!!!
Have you tried this? It needs to be done on a fresh install.

Do not install that
DO NOT try this on a WM6.5 install. It will cause more problems than it's worth. See this thread about that:

I installed those cabs already but they don't clear up any memory, they just delete some of the bloatware and a few power save tweaks.
Thank you guys for your help, I'll just use Titanium until someone finds a fix for this. Too bad because I love sense 2.5 but not so fond of it on the TP2.
You might have to lower the windows cache size. HTC music, HTC messaging and a couple other programs cache your files to load quickly. I've noticed that some programs especially hurt my RAM performance (Lock Device and Dusk Theme made me idle around 66%+, without them I idle at 55%).
Have you ever tried using a program like Cleanram to clear up memory when it gets too full?
oxios, works like a charm

oxios, excellent program. never an issue.
Free up memory
Just in case you need help finding a link to download cleanram follow this thread...
xda-developers > Windows Mobile Development and Hacking > Windows Mobile Apps and Games
[APP]htcAddicts - cleanRAM v2.1 (RAM Cleaner)
Also in the sprint stock 6.5 rom there is a program task manager, I keep this on my quicklinks because often when you close the program it is infact not fully closed. Just remember to check your task manager periodicially because you will be suprised to see how many programs are actually running after you closed them. Clean Ram also helps tremendously with freeing up memory.
However, even with this the weather in the sense 2.5 still seems to be running sluggishly with the htc clock as well. If you still want to see the weather at a faster (normal) rate keep your quicklinks up instead of having the htc clock up. I found that my tp2 runs faster like this. Hope this can help!

Reset phone twice a day then! With the latest sense2.5 and everything, it does take about 80% of memory all the time.

Well mightyROM file size is about 175MB, whereas sprintROM is about 250MB, which tells me that mightys will have lot less programs than sprintROM, which explains why there is so much free memory!
The leaner the ROM, more free memory you get.

ROM and RAM shouldn't affect each other like that (unless sprint includes that bloatware in windows start up, in which case you should disable it to lower running %s). Obviously I haven't tested the sprint ROM, but i'm sure there are tweaks to help bring down those %s.
ATM Im working with a HTC Touch diamond and dual booting win 6.5 and adroid 2.0.1(2.1) (looking for the links, so you know exactly wich ones).
Its all working very well, except for the android nuking my battery in 2hours (known issue, I know). But besides the battery issue there is another thing I dont like about android: There are too many (for me) useless programs installed. Atm Im working with a prepaid card so I dont have use for any services using internet.
Now my question: Is there a program around that lets me delete the useless program from the image so they dont show up in the menu? Or is there a way to delete the useless programs from within the booted OS?
Im talking about:
Browser, Email, Car Home(?), Gmail, Talk, News and weather and then Market.
So basically: Is there a rom around with just all harware support up to date and all options but with only the phone functions working? (messages, phone call and maybe allarms)..
I don't know much about what ROMs are available, but I have heard for system roms you can just delete them from the file system. You have to be careful because some programs use other ones for resources(market uses IM for auth, at least in 1.5, not sure about 2+). There are plenty of apps that analyze CPU usage to help you determine what applications are using the most battery. I'm not sure what version it was introduced in, but the OS now has something too(Settings > About Phone > Battery > Battery Use). My office gets very little reception so as of right now Cell standby and Phone idle have used 71% of my battery that has been used so far. It even tells you how much the display has used. I use the Fresh 2.0d ROM and it is relatively naked compared to the Sprint ROM.
