I was wondering if anyone else has a similar problem - I can tether my phone with my laptop fine, but whenever I get on the phone or a call comes in, the internet disconnects. Not sure if this is by design or a bug?

Its a design flaw, only one connection or the other....
Thanks Bruce! I wonder if there's a say to fix it. I had the Tytn II and was able to do both connections at once.

Hi!
Since Honeycomb 3.2 there is an issue with bluetooth tethering. The first time it works, but after disconnecting you won't be able to reconnect until you have rebooted the Xoom!
That's absolutely annoying... And I think at least for root-users (like me) there should be another way.
I couldn't find any fix on the internet. But I think it should be possible to maybe reload the bluetooth kernel module or something. Maybe it's mobule bcm4329? Does anyone know how to do that (modprobe doesn't work).
Or are there any other ideas?

My bluetooth connection wasnt reliable with bluetooth tethering either. I found though that when i did tether id only use the connection for like 30 minutes at most. If thats the case you should update to the latest version of wifi tethering from google v3.1 beta. Because when you tether wifi with that it tethers in infrastructure mode instead of ad-hoc that way your xoom can see it and connect with no problem. its completely reliable for me. And works flawlessly. ive had countless issues using bluetooth (Almost never was able to connect to network. only able to be paired)
if you do go that route. After connecting your xoom, make sure you have access control checked and that your device is in the list and enabled in wifi tethering then save.
Generally WiFi-Tether is no problem. I'm accessing the internet through my HTC with CM7 and Gingerbread offers WiFi-Hotspot by stock. But the point is, that this really drains your phone's battery if you just leave it connected.
Using Bluetooth-Tethering with the root-app Wireless Tether installed on my phone, the battery lasts much longer. Of course the connection is slower, but for mails etc. that doesn't matter. With Honeycomb 3.1 it worked great, but since 3.2 it simply won't reconnect until you reboot... You can even unpair and repair the devices etc., it doesn't help. After rebooting the Xoom it connect like a charm...
I think there has to be a way to just restart the bluetooth-module or something... But I don't know how.
Hey guys,
is there no one out there, who can help? If you search the internet, you find a lot of people, who are having this problem - no one even has a workaround.
The fact is, during reboot all the services and kernel-modules are reloaded (of course). So if s.o. could just say which service/module is responsible for bluetooth-tethering and how to restart/reload it without a reboot, this could already be very helpful!
I have an idea!
OK, I'm a little stuck, but I've got new information.
Obviously it's a DHCP-issue. Seems like the DHCP-client on the Xoom doesn't pick up a new IP anymore... If you type netcfg in a terminal emulator, you'll find that.
With su dhcpcd you often can push it get an IP! Then, after that, you sometimes can connect several times without problems, but connecting to WiFi again can be problematic...
Any ideas? Is there another way to make the dhcp-client get an IP?
My idea is to set up a static IP for that interface bnep0, but I can't find the proper config-file... Can someone tell me how to set up a static IP only for that single interface?
i am running wireless tether 2.08 which has Bluetooth wifi built in and I also have the same issues. Hopefully someone will come up with a fix for this. I kind of prefer running my Evo with Bluetooth than wifi since it does not run hot
No one has found a fix, yet?
Hi,
I've just received my Samsung Focus AT&T Unlocked, everything's look good except WiFi won't work, no matter what I do. I've tried all suggestions posted online..
Did NoDo update
Tried WPA
Tried WPA2
Tried with No Security (Open Network)
Tried the channels 6, 9 and 11
Even reset the Router
Reset the Phone
I'd really appreciate any help, WiFi is a must for me!
Many thanks for your help!
You did NOT provide enough information so we can't help you.
Eg. Does your phone give an error connecting or does it not detect WiFi at all? Does your WiFi works elsewhere such as your office?
Oh sorry.
Phone detects all available networks, but can't join/use them. The error is:
"Connection Unsuccessful - Your phone couldn't reach the WiFi network xyz"
Yes, tried creating a network with my Macbook and joining, but that didn't work either.
Have you tried to connect using Wired connection (when your phone is connected to PC with Zune launched)? I just want to make sure that connecting to internet and getting and IP is not the problem.

Yes, that works. So I turned off 'Data Connection' from settings, connected to PC and opened Zune. I can access internet on the phone, even checked the IP, it seems to be using the PCs connection. Removed the USB cable, and there's no internet.
So yes, that works which confirms that there's physical fault in the phone, just a bug?

I had similar problem with my university wireless connection. After several access with Zune, the problem was fixed. And by the way, it may not be a hardware problem since your device detects the available network.
Perhaps you need to visit a phone shop.

Ah, thats a relief to know. And since windows is not officially available in my country, there are no shops.
I'm expecting one of the experts here to chime in and help, or someone who has experienced and resolced this issue before.
Thanks
Can you please tell me your router's mode, channel, fragmentation, treshold values. Maybe that'll help.
Anyone? WiFi not working is so annoying!
I'd really appreciate any help with this.
Try connecting to WiFi at your office or somewhere else.
I also have the Samsung Focus and it won't connect to a certain router no matter how I configuration the router.

Has anyone else had problems using Bluetooth tethering with your Nexus 5?
I can pair just fine and have no problem accessing the Internet etc. initially; however, after a 5-20 minutes of use the phone stops forwarding bluetooth packets to the Internet. The phone's Internet connectivity remains and Chrome on the Nexus 5 works flawlessly. If I disconnect the PC I'm connecting to the my Nexus 5 and try reconnect then I'm unable to do so. Instead I have to turn the Nexus 5's bluetooth off and enable bluetooth tethering again.
This is my second Nexus 5 as the first one was RMA'd. My first device also had this exact same issue; and was one of many issues that caused me to RMA in the first place. However, given that this is happening again, it looks like this is likely some sort of driver bug rather than anything related to hardware.
I'll root the device and get some proper packet logs (in addition to kernel logs) when I get a chance. For now... has anyone else experienced this?
Interesting. I am having Bluetooth tethering issues with my Wimm, thought maybe T-Mobile was blocking, but hotspot worked fine and they said they weren't. Keep us posted.

Hello everyone. I have been having a wifi issue lately and I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I can connect to my home wifi and surf the internet, use Facebook and watch Youtube and use some other apps. Lately however, I am not able to use apps like Pandora, Slacker, 93.9 The Beat, POF, OkCupid and MeetMe. I'm sure there are others as well that I haven't tried yet since this issue has started. I can also connect to xfinity wifi (I'm not sure who's that is) and all of the apps work fine. I am on the stock ROM, S-Off and unlocked running Android 5.0.1 If any one could help, it would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Do you use a proxy at home? I know some apps don't work well with proxys...
Change anything recently on your home router?
Did you say everything works FINE on xfiniti wifi?
Xfiniti Wifi is a major cable operators wifi. You'd need to have access to their services to use their wifi.

Hello bigblueshock. I have not made any changes to my phone/router/modem. I have shut them all completely down and restarted them and that did not help. And all of the devices are up to date. Yes everything works fine when I connect to Xfinity wifi. I have ComCast/Xfinity cable and internet. I'm not sure if it's my Xfinity wifi I'm connecting to though. I have signed in on a prior occasion and I was connected, so maybe. But when I try to connect to my wifi (the one that I know is mine) that is when I have my issues. It was working fine up until recently. I am not using any proxy.

If you're connecting to a different WiFi (such as XFINITI) with no problem. I'd say there's a high chance somethings going on your end... whether it be router/modem related.
One way to test is to connect another android device to YOUR network, and see what happens... Possibly even an Apple device. Any friends or family have android devices?
If the router is one comcast provided.. maybe they pushed an update to it which messed up something.

I have an old Samsung Omnia II that is running on Windows 6.5. When I connect to my home wifi, Slacker Radio works fine and so does everything else on the phone. It connects directly to my Netgear wifi it does also show xfinity wifi as available as well. But it doesn't have the app like my much newer HTC One M8 has. My M8 does show my Netgear home wifi and that is the one I'm having issues with. It seems like it's my M8 that is having the troubles.

If you are at your own home you shouldn't be on the xfinity Wi-Fi side. You should be on your private network.
I am trying to use both these features at the same time. Has anyone been able to do this? The problem is sidesync looks for to be connected to wifi to use the feature but the problem is my phone is the router. My phone can talk to my computer just fine but the app itself doesnt realize this. Any thoughts?
Same here =(
