UN-Root the T-Mobile myTouch 3G - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

I was able to successfully root my new t-mobile mytouch 3G through this forum.
There may be a variety of reasons to unroot it for persons using this forum. I have a good one, in any case.
I saw there are faqs to unroot G1 and perhaps some other sapphire phones, but not for the Mytouch G2.
Here is my original rom/data info from before it was rooted
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G

Perhaps this would be a good time for those who cracked the dreaded perfect spl to give directions to uncrack it. Imagine it is quite simple, but I am somewhat new at this, and don't know where to find the files needed.
1. what files would be needed (perhaps someones nandroid backup?)
2. where to get the files.
3. directions to install them, so the phone appears back in factory condition.
Dave

I have the same question

also can a nandroid back restore the spl at the time of backup as well. so if we use one click root and then do the nandroid back, so the restore will be factory spl and factory rom?

not really possible at this point, unless someone has a copy of the t-mobile mytouch sappimg.NBH
why would you want to give up the rooty goodness anyway?

to send the phone for warreny maybe

do u think this is a possibility?

I think the same downgrade protection that made root so difficult to achieve would also prevent the MyTouch NBH from flashing since the MainVer is lower. We determined that the downgrade protection came from somewhere on the device other than the SPL.

nand doesnt flash SPL. sorry charlie

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548915

oh, then its not possible to restore back to factory spl until there is a leaked .nbh of mytouch. That answers all the questions.

couldnt you use the same gold card procedure to re-install the stock rom?

ofcourse we can but where is the stock sappimg? ITs not available at the moment

i am to looking for this i i seen that going back to the stock spl on the my touch works alot better with flashing ones u do the one 1 click root i have to did one the hard way and the 2 one the easy way the 1 one si did is having trouble flashing hero roms they away go blurry now the 2 one with the stock spl works really good any rom can be flash am looking for the stock spl or how to un root the phone

I am pretty sure there are other ways to purposely brick your phone to get service under warranty. There are a ton of posts in the G1 forums on this exact subject. I am not sure that that's why you want to downgrade but if it's for warranty repair, others have reported that they were able to get HTC to fix their phones even though they were rooted (often when they were bricked). Personally, I don't think HTC could care less but that's just my opinion.

a couple reasons to unroot phone:
A. you sell it to someone on ebay who does not want a rooted phone, perhaps they think it is illegal or something.
B. for the warranty
while this may be off topic, someone mentioned sending it to HTC for the warranty, and they would not care about it being rooted or no. Do we send the t-mobile mytouch phone to t-mobile or htc? (I'm sure the quesiton is somewhere in the data base, but I'm a little lazy about this one. sometimes shortcuts are good, like rooting is a kind of shortcut.
so far as how to unroot, if someone (who unlike me thinks ahead) backed up the original hard drive data, could they upload said backup to be used by others?
Cheers
Dave

if u want to send it back to tmobile just tell them u downloaded a app and it fu*k it up and u cant do hard reset or nothing it that it keeps cutting of anf on u know make somthing up all i did was tru back the rom it comes with and set it back for a new one but i was still under the buys R so am waiting on a new one now

The mytouch nbh will be released shortly some time today or maybe tomorrow. You will use the gold card method like before ( you might not even have to use gold card, but if it doesnt flash regular use the gold card) You shouldnt have to worry about the version being an older version because you dont have that spl that wont allow you to flash older versions

I added the un-root procedure here (Scroll down!)

muchos gracias
Dave

If I want to revert back to "official" G1 firmware, what about the HardSPL?

I plan on rooting my phone in the next couple of days, but I was wondering if the HardSPL that you install during the "How To Root your G1" tutorial will cause any issues if I want to go back to the "official" g1 firmware from Tmobile. From reading about SPL, the stock SPL is from HTC but the HardSPL thats on the tutorial is modified. Would I replace the modified SPL if I want to go back to the official firmware?
If you look real hard, you can find a sticky about this!
But I'll be nice and sweet tonight, so here it is!

Did you post in the wrong thread? That link is about rc33 OTA update. My question is about getting back to official firmware after rooting the phone and whether the HardSPL can stay or revert back to the original.

to go back to original everything just use the original spl in an update.zip and then use the DREAIMG.nbh from when you rooted your phone and you will have stock stuff like it just came out of the box

So if I want to go back I would first install the rc29 then the original SPL, then upgrade to rc33?
Whats the purpose of using the HardSPL vs the original SPL?
no, do the original SPL THEN the .nbh you need to have root to flash an update.zip that is not signed with the proper keys, as for the benefits of hard SPL over the original go here and read

Thanks. Some of the FAQs are not very clear. I'm not sure what you mean by EVERYTHING I've said on the board...
btw, are you hoping I brick my phone? So far I've read 4 different tutorials on how to root your phone. Each one has something different than the other. I'm just trying to get the facts straight before rooting my phone.
look for the thread "app that roots your phone" tell him in a PM that you want to beta test it, when i ran it or him on the last version he needed to fix the telnet script and he is pretty sure he got that working. i would give the link but since it is not my app it is not my place to give out the link.
i do not hope you brick your phone, but i see it as an inevitable thing, i know what i'm doing, i'm no guru but certainly not a n00b and i have managed to "brick" my phone just bout every day because i am always trying new things. the main thing to remember is that as long as when you turn your phone in you get the SPL or recovery then you do not have a true brick. i wish you the best in all your hacking but be forewarned that everything you try has the potential to render the phone unusable for a few hours till you figure out how to fix it. ALWAYS keep the DREAIMG.nbh on your sdcard and an update.zip that contains one of the many JF builds and you will never be too far from fixing your phone.

I understand. Hopefully I wont brick the phone but the nice thing about GSM phones is that I can jut pop my SIM card into my old phone if any issues come up with the G1. I just see people being mean to noobs when at some point in time they were noobs also.
The main reason I want to root the phone is to move the cache to my SD card. The onboard memory on the G1 is a joke. I knew the limitations when I bought the phone in October, but I thought for sure they would have come out with a update that lets you run apps from your SD card. Being a early adopter is fun
if you have less than a class 6 sdcard then moving the cache will have loads of lag, took 3 seconds to delete an email on my class 4. but if you just wanna move apps then you'll be fine

Interesting. I may have to buy a microSDHC card since the microSD card that came with the phone has no rating on it. After reading about SDHC, it seems only SDHC has the 2,4,6 rating.
use the RC29 NBH, it flashes everything including bootloader, then use the official signed RC33 update (40mb) and you will be back to stock rc33

Rogers new rom with Updated Radio inside

Hi,
Rogers released new dream rom with a radio update.
We have 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I now
This new is:
62.52S.20.18U_3.22.20.17.
Anyone able to get it out so we can flash it on cyan latest mod rom?
Dont know exact radio version but go here for rom:
http://www.htc.com/ca/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=269&cat=2&dl_id=654
Thanks again.
the whole dump is an nbh file that has to be flashed from the sd. Anybody know how to crack it open?
I bet it contains other fixes as well! The message on Twitter said that they fixed some bugs!

I remember back when I had my Wizard, there was a tool to pick apart nbh images and reassemble them. But this was for Windows Mobile, a completely different platform. Perhaps the basic file formats are similar?
Use qmat. It can unpack nbhs.
Mmmm, new radio.......yummy.....I like new stuff.....wait if it is a new radio, will this be able to work for us, how to we know that this won't jeprodize us with the danger spl. I know I ain't gonna be the first to try this

my thoughts exactly...took enough balls to go for the danger SPL in the first place.
my current radio works fine, so I am not going to mess.
then again...never say never. thats what XDA is all about
Well we know the radio calls the spl and that the old radio was not able to call the hayruko spl which cause way too many paperweights so how will we know if this radio will also call it, we can assume that since it is an update would but the word assume means to make an ass out of you and me, so is there any way that this can be checked or tested numerous times before we possibly get another wave of bricks and without a cupcake over the air excuse to fall back on. Just my thoughts.
Never change a running system my father tells. Me all the time.. ;-)
Yeah but I like new stuff, I got so used to it feeling like christmas around with new stuff all the time that I got spoiled. I have had this radio and spl for 3 months now and I am bored off it. I demand something new that could cause some new widespread havoc, can't we get something that causes a self destruct if installed incorrectly, kinda jealous of those iphone 3gs users and their exploding batteries, I want something that explodes and catches fire. I demand a refund what am I paying you dev for, wait I don't pay you, nevermind forget this whole post
P.s. I am just playing
rogers is DREA210
we have mostly DREA100/110
i dont think we r able to flash it...
Hardware is identical.
So it should work OK.
Just give me radio Rom only and i will flash it asap.
drea110 here.
You can go back to default by flashing DREAIMG.nbh and then re-flash with this Rom and all will be OK.BUT YOU WILL LOOSE ROOT!
And that is why i didn't flash it yet
Am waiting for someone to give a proper radio Rom to flash.
There will always be a question about whether any new radio image (IPL) that ships will be compatible with a hacked SPL or other SPL not intended for the specific device. This new IPL could very well brick every device it is installed on when mixed with the deathSPL. I very strongly suggest that nobody tries this IPL unless they switch back to their STOCK SPL. Now that HTC has so kindly provided the kernel source needed to build custom kernels that will boot on a stock dream as provided to rogers, there is absolutely NO NEED to continue using the deathSPL phone killer.
Hey, does this nbh file carry the SPL? (it must, doesn't it?)
If it does, then you could maybe just install this and reroot.
Yes it contains spl and radio rom and os rom on it so it will put back everything on stock.
But you will loose root and as of now there is no way to root on 1.5 version.. yet.
if there is i would flash it.
Re-root leave radio and check spl version.
if newer than deathspl would leave it and flash cyanogen 4.0.4.
If not reflash haykuro new hacked spl back and then wipe and flash cyanogen 4.0.4.
And am back in bussiness with new radio and/or spl.
But rooting on 1.5 cupcake needed to do that so...

Really REALLY WRONG!
As I rank your knowledge about SPLs,Radios and android itself with this post, you shouldn't flash this, except if you wouldn't cry and open up a thread "My G1 is dead" ;-)

And you base that on what?
1.5 is rootable - look for "goldcard"
Second: This update has a different SPL - It's not an Engineering SPL.
It replaces your recovery.
And I think these Recovery and ROM wouldn't boot on a regular T-Mobile G1, because it has a different radio chip.
It's very risky to flash this, because it's from a different phone.
It's NOT the same hardware!

I hope this is not a very stupid question, but why would you need a goldcard. Can't you just revert to RC29 and root you device the old and easy way?

Of course i didn't expect it to be engineering spl, this rom are made of normal ppl to use not experiment so normal spl would be on it but maybe the same as g1 or newer.
rogers only modification was on UMTS 850 / 1900 bands the normal g1 only supports UMTS 1700 / 2100 but rogers g1 users did flash radio rom from g1 vanilla see hardspl or even haykuro's hacked spl and they work fine so why not the contrary?
After all they keep the same base versions:
We have 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
They have 62.52S.20.18U_3.22.20.17.
If they had: 3.0008 i wouldn't bother smells from miles is not same radio hardware
But as you can see the code is identical to each other, only newer!
The hardware IS the same my friend only they dont have dvt only pvt motherboards and they all be flashed with latest haykuro's spl and radio!
If am wrong the os will load but i wont have cell reception but that is as far as it goes for a brick.
Am 99% this rom will do just fine on any pvt g1 phone out there.
As for goldcard, didnt know there is a way to root on 1.5 please enlighten me.
Is there anything to download to make this happen? ->link
if it is am more than 101% that this rom will go on my phone sweet.
After that i dont know what happens will i be able to flash haykuro spl back or i will have a brick? will it let me flash custom rom?
Over and out.

Rogers forced upgrade = perfected SPL?

Hi everyone,
Been trying to root my phone since yesterday and had a bit of trouble. Now it seems that the SPL I have is a perfected one as I am unable to use fastboot for recovery.img (not allow error).
This is what I have:
Sapphire PVT 32A Ship S-ON H
1.76.0010 (SAPP50000)
CPLD 12
Radio 6.35.10.18
Is there a way to change this SPL at this time? I know there are ways for older ones but I wasn't sure that I should be changing to an older SPL (and risk bricking my phone) so I thought I'd ask first!
Any advice/input greatly appreciated.

Yeah that's a perfected SPL. I assume Recovery Flasher doesnt work? If you can't use Recovery Flasher then you are out of luck until someone can break into those phones.
Keep in mind the hero recovery is the only one that works with the 6.x Radio.
Arrrgh!!! I'm tempted to go to the Rogers store and exchange my Magic for another one (without the upgrade on it). I still have 8 days to do so according to Rogers policy...
chances are you'd get another with perfected spl.
This is how i got mine working from perfected spl->custom rom
If you want a different rom, dont follow the last 2 links, and find whatever you want to flash, after the first 2 links you will have a non-perfected spl and be able to flash whatever your heart desires.
There are easier ways to do this if you are not running windows 7. Apparently theres a way using htc sync, but i cant get it working, even with all of the fixes that people have claimed work for them

u can have a sense ui running on 1.5, if you are only concerned with how it looks. Just flash the cursorsence rom, if u have 32a phone. ensure u dont have a perfect spl. If you did the rogers dream->magic switch, likely you have a 32a phone with 1.33.0010 perfect spl. you must get rid of this first.
here's some links to help you out as i did this process yesterday. took me a helluva long time.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I'm actually using Windows 7 so I'll have to do it that way.
Does it matter that my SPL is 1.76.0010 rather than 1.33.0010?
umm.
Actually im not 100% sure. Kuz i know messing with the radio and spls can be problematic if you flash them incorrectly... I personally would go straight to flashing These instead of going to 1.33.2007
maybe wait for someone more experienced to comment, kuz radio and spl being flashed wrong will result in a brick

Got the HTC Magic upgrade through Rogers...
Perfected SPL
Since they still use 1.5 (yet they claim they care about security, lol) RecFlash works a charm.
Install RecFlash, slash RA's Recovery, then use it to flash the ROM.

me and asiano both did the same thing, just follow this here procedure:

I've tried that method with the new rogers update (SPL 1.76.0010), and it doesn't seem to work for me. The flashrec website even states it doesn't work with firmware released after November '09. Are you sure you had the new update when you rooted using this method?

yes but i think you don't have a perfected spl, we are not able to root because our spl version is 1.76.0010... can you confirm you got the same?
I have an updated Rogers ROM and Goldcard will not work with the current ENG SPL. Outdated
Same with me. Stuck on this ROM. I think whomever says they were able to get root with 1 click method or flashing the Engineering SPL did not have the same setup as those of us who are stuck. I've devoted about 20 hours so far to getting root again. None of the methods are working, and yes I'm following the directions to the letter. This is really starting to piss me off.
Is there anyone working on trying to root this new Rogers update ROM? It seems like most of the people who do this stuff have moved on to the Droid and N1. Do we need to start a fund to entice one of the people who rooted the other ROMs to come back and revisit Rogers 1.5 Sense? I'd throw $10 US into the pot.
Any other ideas?
im in!
10$ US, im in!

Totally in. 10 bucks is a small price to pay for a rooted phone.

WOW i never i mean never had this many issues modding a phone i created the gold card on a 2gig sandisk and coppied the sappimg.zim and it does the same rite bak to Hboot please someone help me i want to flash a hero style rom on this bad boy, besides the main point of me returnign my black mt3g and getting the fender was the fender was 32a and the blk was 32b so i figured 32a im all good all i need is to root and load a recoveery image please help
tx in advance
I just had to do a warranty exchange and ended up with the 1.33.0007 s-on H. I had to go through the entire goldcard procedure on the Unlockr's page in order to get that bad boy rooted... It was a pain but it worked great! Now running CM 4.2.14.1 with the Darkstar theme (love that theme). Check out the Unlockr's page. He lays out the steps in a really easy way to follow!

Sigh! The danger of assumptions and reading material that is a few months old. Just because something is posted does not mean it will work from then on. Manufacturers are constantly creating new versions of the software to stop hacking. Your fender is in that boat: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622530
Even if you followed directions from that link and got your phone rooted, so what? You still need developers to modify Roms to fit that SPL/Radio. Right now, it seems a lot of the developers have left the Magic. Why no? There are newer and more exciting phones to cook.
So, whoever is reading this, please do research, google, and check whether your version of the software can be rooted or not. If rooted, whether you can find custom Roms to use.

I just rooted my Fender mytouch yesterday. Instead of using the sappimg.img from the unlockr, use the top one on Amon's page here
One Note:
I had to name it SAPPIMG.zip to get it recognized in hboot. I would try it with the .img extension first, then re-name it SAPPIMG.zip if that doesn't do it. After that, I loaded the fender stock rom from curserdroid's post in this same section. once that was loaded, I still had to downgrade by loading this spl and radio from hereWhen done, everything works, touch screen, 3.5 mm jack, etc. I would follow crypysmoker's steps in his post here.It worked in my case, and should take care of your phone as well- Chris

[ROM] DHD Vodafone Australia Stock Branded Rom 1.32.178.5

I finally got around to rooting and S-OFFing my phone today, while I was at it I used clockwork recovery to make a backup of the Stock VHA Branded ROM.
I saw a few people were looking for this so here it is. Feel free to mirror it or whatever, this is my first ROM-dump so if anything is amiss or I did something wrong please let me know. I still have the device available to make further dumps.
This is for the Desire HD (Obviously) Branded by Vodafone Australia.

Sorry for posting a link as a new member, I thought this would be worth it.
EDIT: Obviously the dump is all at factory defaults, on first boot it should be like buying a new phone, from a bloatware company.
Except it will be a rooted bloatware rom?
That's the point People have been asking for it as a backup rom, as flashing a non Vodafone rom may void certain warranties, which flashing this back could increase your chance of keeping. I personally upgraded my own DHD to a much better ROM as soon as I could.
Awesome, ive been waiting for the stock ROM. Good Work

No worries man. Let me know how it turns out if you use it. Everything should be at factory defaults as I wiped the device with Clockwork before making the backup. If you find anything wrong just let me know in this thread.
Thanks Should be handy for warranty issues!
Thanks champion!
Thanks mate. I've downloaded and it all looks good so far (haven't flashed though to check).
Is it rooted with VISIONary r12?
Sweet, been waiting for this. Thanks mate!
Sent from my Desire HD
Yeah the process I followed was Perma root with VISIONary v12, install hboot, install clockwork test, use clockwork to wipe to factory and then backup to SDcard. I'm unsure as to the exact details of how VISIONary works at this time so it may not still be rooted, I don't know if root persists after factory reset.
Thanks! this is getting downloaded for safety/warranty reasons.
Thanks a lot for extracting and hosting the original (Vodafone AUS) ROM!
Am i right, that this is the only thing you need to set your mobile into delivery condition? If there are some other traces of flashing they might decline warranty, too!
Perhaps, if you have the time and pleasure, you could write a detailed how-to for newbies (with links to software you need, e.g.!) how to extract the original firmware.
I think this would be necessary if the DHD will be available in other countries on other network providers (with their own ROM).
Excellent! I'm just 2 days into my new DHD from Vodafone Oz and just about to do the same... Rooting!
I'll probably make a back for myself but I'm downloading this one too... Just to be safe.
Thanks heaps Kazuroka!
BTW - Don't listen to those lame ppl who don't have anything positive to add.
Just a note: I believe that this ROM, although the stock Vodafone image, is a rooted one. So if Vodafone have a moderately smart technical department they will still be able to tell that it is not running their complete stock image.
@ivolol: That's exactly what i'm thinking about! For e. g., changing ROM on my Windows Mobile phone requires a modification of the bootloader. If you flash back your old (original) ROM you have to remember to change the bootloader to original too. Otherweise you have the original ROM on your phone but another bootloader and this could be be detected very easily. I know that the procedure changing ROM on DHD is another than on Windows Mobile, but perhaps you have to think about more things than only flashing the original ROM?!

After flashing back the backup ROM I did not have root. I installed Terminal Emulator and tried to su, and even downloaded VISIONary+ and re-Rooted the device. However I did still have the Eng hboot, as that was not included in this backup. I have a copy of the original hboot from when S-OFFed the phone, I will see what I can do about getting the original hboot and stock ROM into one package for everyone, and then perhaps write a tutorial for flashing them back individually. I MAY NOT, however, write the tutorial as I am still rather new and would not like to lead people into doing something the wrong way. I will also include the stock hboot in a seperate archive for those who have already downloaded this release.

could be better i gues...thanks OP

This is the original system.img that comes on a brand new Vodafone Desire HD.
This image was dumped manually without Visionary messing with stuff, and Obviously the image is NOT rooted. It's completely stock.
This would probably be the best image to use if you're worried about returning the phone
Note: I have had to return a Desire HD to Vodafone who did not check that it was rooted and S-OFF'ed - So, don't worry too much.

Why is your file so much bigger than Kazuroka's original upload and also just wondering your method of extracting the img?
Thanks
