Making Camera button Play/Pause - General Questions and Answers

Is there a way to somehow make the camera button play/pause my music? There has to be a way, this is Windows Mobile.
Any suggestions?

Music in HTC Audio Manager.

VJKeyPress might do it for you. I'm not sure if you can edit the registry to add an argument to the program ran by the hardware button, (can someone confirm yes/no), or whether you'll have to use VJBrisk to get it working.

you don't mention which player most players got a long list of functions you can tie to the hardware buttons of your device

@Rudegar: I did mention actually.
@jez: Thanks, I'll try that out.

@jez: I don't see how that would work. Can you give me a brief explanation how to make any of those apps do what I want to do?
Thanks.

Install VJKeyPress then edit the registry, (it looks like its HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Keys on my Hermes), so that the button points to "VJKEYPRESS.EXE 179", where 179 is the argument to play/pause your media.

Okay, so in it looks like its HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Keys/4-C2 there is an entry:
Name: Icon
Data: \windows\camera.exe, 0
I should change this to "\Program Files\vijay555\VJKeyPress\VJKeyPress.exe" 179
Am I right?

I think it would be the default string rather than the icon.
However I just installed HTC Audio Manager, (I normally use Conduits Pocket Player), and tested and it doesn't seem to work.
VJKeyPress 179 works for WMP, but you can map buttons anyway in that. Unfortunately AudioManager must work differentely.
Sorry I couldn't help.

Hmm, thanks for trying . Does anyone have any other solution?

Blueplayer could = better A2DP sound

If anyone here has tried to use an i.tech stereo headset (like the R35 or S35) or other A2DP headset and has been dissapointed with the sound quality (commonly referred to as a "ringing" distortion or hissing over the sound) using the A2DP for tornado hack, its because the MS Bluetooth Stack isn't 100% compatible with all (most) headsets. Its particularly noticeable on i.tech, but the reduced quality is true on many others as well.
In case you didn't know, Blueplayer is a standalone app that streams music to A2DP headphones even if the phone doesn't support A2DP in its own stack! That means any phone with bluetooth (some even claim older 1.1 devices as well) can bypass the usual MS stack in our devices and stream stereo sound directly to a compatible headset!
The software was written for Nokia S60 devices initially, but there have been Pocket PC and java versions (only compatible with specific phones) released since then as well.
I'm very annoyed by the sound quality of my itech R35 paired with my imate SP5. I'm 100% sure that software such as blueplayer would solve this problem. However, the PPC and java versions don't seem to work on my device.
Can anyone help me figure out how to make this work? I tried extracting the files from the PPC cab file, but its complaining about missing libraries. The install may add some things to the registry that I'm missing.
Better yet, does anyone have anything like this for WM Smartphone?
what are you missing? I got blueplayer running with my S35 and the quality is excellent and range good(for me)...
Unfortunately I am using a Wizard...
I wish I could get it working!
I can't figure out what it is, but I'm having trouble.
Normally I can make any app work (even if its for PPC) by pulling the files off of a PPC installation, and run the .exe on my smartphone and it just works.
But I keep get errors about libraries not existing or being in the wrong place. I need to figure out exactly what happens when the app is installed- what files go where, any registry changes, etc... There's gotta be a way to make it work on smartphone!
From memory,
There are a few files and registry settings that I can remember but barely, but if you want I can try to install it again. I removed it because I don't use MP3s anymore..
Yeah, if you don't mind helping me out, that'd be amazing (also for the smartphone community as a whole).
Why don't u use mp3's anymore?
I can just look up the settings for you, you got to do the work ;-)...
I find them too large for my 1Gb MiniSD, using AAC+ now... nice quality and file size.
Just PM me what you want to know...
Well, I don't know what kind of entries this will place in the registry. To be honest, I'm not sure how to check myself either. Is there a way to tell EXACTLY what a .cab does?
Found it!
Interesting program for those in my situation:
http://thinkabdul.com/2006/12/20/ms...nformation-from-windows-mobile-cab-xml-files/
lets you see exactly what steps a cab installation goes through. Any reg. items, what the actual filenames are, what directories they are placed in, etc...
Amazing little tool.
However, I still haven't gotten blueplayer to work on my sp5... I wonder why?
thanks for the link, I needed something like that as well, going to compare the differences in the Widcomm bluetooth hacks...
BTW, how do you get blueplayer to work on a smartphone anyway without the touch screen?
Oh, simulating a touchscreen is easy... most apps let you navigate using the joystick, but it gets annoying and sometimes a touch is needed to click (for example an ok button).
There's a great little app call SPhelper that places a mouse pointer on your screen that can be navigated using the directional joystick, and "clicked" like a screen tap.
Its pretty cool.
Anyway, the problem is that I can't get Blueplayer to operate, even with all the .dll files in the right places. It says its missing something.

Here's all I know:
I poked around in the .cab installation and found that there are 4 .dll's that go in the \windows dir (msibtstk.dll, msibtapi.dll, CHS.dll and TW.dll), and two .exe program files that go in program files\msi\blueplayer (STLoader.exe, and MPOBCE.exe). AFAIK, there don't seem to be any registry entries that it inserts.
Now, I've done this with PPC apps before, normally all I have to do is run the .exe after all files are in place, and it will work (obviously with some minor annoyances due to missing the touch screen).
However, every time I hit MPOBCE.exe, all I get is:
"Alert
Can't find MPOBCE or one of its components. Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available."
There's gotta be something I'm overlooking... Anyone?
No man, there are some(I found some) entries, but I thought you were set and removed them already..
will reinstall and get back to you again...
BTW do you do a full backup of your phone? I use SPB backup and it is good..
oh, cool, I couldn't find any... let me know!
entries but not sure if working...
Here are the two registry inputs(rename to *.txt) I found on my system.. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work this time as I am using Widcomm bluetooth stack... wonder why.... Last time I used this was with MS Stack on...

No, that makes sense. The Nokia one is designed to operated by tunnelling through the s60 stack, and the WinCE version was most likely designed assuming the MS one.
No go... I entered all this stuff exactly like you said, and I get the same errors.
Interesting to note is the drivers reg keys already existed!
It appears that the other exe (stloader.exe) did run and I think entered those keys. The actual program tho, seems to not run (and therefore never entered the proper keys, I'm guessing).
Sorry man.. to get your hopes up..
Right now, I got Axim Widcomm Stack running on my Wizard, but still get the memory issue after a long time powering off bluetooth.
oh well, back to waiting and testing new stacks..
Hey, I've got another idea if you wouldn't mind helping me some more...
Could you try to manually install it the way I've been doing on your pocket PC device?
The reason I ask is because it will determine if there's some sort of PPC-specific code (which I don't think I've ever encountered or even heard of before).
I attached the files and directory structure that I extracted from the cab. If you could, please try uninstalling BluePlayer and tell me if you can get this to run by manually copying the files here.
If it doesn't work for you either, than its because my method is flawed and I'm missing something here... and I shouldn't give up yet!
ok, I will give it a go, but most probably I can only go as far as getting the program to run... Feel comfortable with the widcomm stack, don't feel like disabling it..
just give me a few hours.. my stupid SD USB card reader not working properly... got to look for my cable.. damn!!
good news is, the program starts with the exceptions
1)at first start after putting the files in place, the program starts a few times with the L2Cap error...
2)After a few failed restarts, followed by a softreset, the registry settings in drivers(L2Cap..) are in place and the program runs without error.
3)Now it's up to you to test it with MS stack bluetooth on, as I cannot confirmed this for you.. good luck buddy...

TMobile SDA (US) w/ WM6- Buttons not working!

Let me just begin by saying that you all are awesome. I am incredibly impressed you were able to get WM6 working on the Tornado. I have a TMobile SDA (USA). I used Andot's Perfect WM6 ROM to flash. I didn't have any problems other than a few spontaneous reboots after flashing the ROM. I do have a question though.
After flashing, I now cant get my T-Mobile button nor my review, play, and forward buttons(the ones that are on the same row) to work. I would like them to work with media player like they used to. I could give a rat's ass about the T-Mobile button, but it would be nice to be able to assign it or any of those other buttons to a specific function.
Is there a specific customization CAB I was supposed to install for the TMobile SDA (USA) to get those buttons working? How can I use or reassign those buttons?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hello atarilynx,
I have your same phone, which is also identical to the sp5m.
go get phil's extras.zip from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1417372&postcount=4
and install the sp5m button fix cab
after that, you can to into wmp and assign the buttons to do their normal tasks.
also, after applying that fix, the t-zones button will open to an ie search page.
Many thanks...
Thanks a bunch...that works for me. You all rock!
Maybe one other question...when I imaged my phone, after it was done, it would reset about every few minutes. Sometimes I would try opening stuff, and it would seem to lock up, then reset.
Things seem to be ok now... I have not had it reset on me once after the first few hours. Did others have that experience too?
Neither of the phones that I've flashed have had that problem.
Both of them being TMob SDAs.
I have no clue why your phone was doing that, hope it got that out of it's system!
actually if you guys notice, it still doesnt work. you will try and configure the fastforward button, but when you try to hold it down, it only sees it as a press, not a hold.
true, the hold and seek feature is lost from those buttons, but you can still do that with the joystick if you must.
I personally have no problem with that as I hardly seek through songs.
something else is still tweaked though, on one of my sda's, i did the button fix then installed the tcpmp shortcuts from mobile.surrealnetworks.com/SDAapps.htm
now the buttons do not line up at all with what they are supposed to do. I think the "previous track" button becomes the play button and whatnot.
maybe phil can come up with a better sp5m fix
or, you know, someone else who actually knows what's going on.
I need to sit down some evening and really dig in and figure out what exactly these fix cabs are doing.
I think you need to find the attribute for WMplayer which is used for seeking forward or backward, then save it as Long_AP#.lnk where # is the button number

In the past, I have had poor luck with assigning a Long_AP command when there wasn't one already set for that button. Not sure if something needs to be added to the registry as well?
Otherwise, I would set long buttons for all sorts of apps :-/
Like, in Andot's rom, I love having the long home go to celetask.
Same, I tried to assign an attribute to long_ap, it did not work, why dont you copy the lnk files from AKU2 ROm ?
That is probably a good suggestion, tho, I still think there is probably more to it . . . I would try it out, but I'm moving in a couple days, and have priorities that must be attended to :-(
i think it has something to do with htcwmpplugin.dll, plus maybe sumthing to do with this registry i found it when i dumped the tmobile rom... and checked the rgu files
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\UIPlugins\{72F3E437-17E6-484E-9C96-13181D4039CB}]
"FriendlyName"="HTC Key Mapping UI Plug-in"
"Description"="HTC Key Mapping UI Plug-in"
"Capabilities"=dword:1
i havent tried most ,too lazy!!! hehehe!
as it has been explained in many posts in the past the htcwmpui plugin is for a homescreen wmp plugin and nothing to do with the buttons
oh ok sorry about that... will it have to do with keybddr.dll then?
What are you guys talking about "assigning attributes" to the long_ap#.lnk?
Are you talking about adding in a command line style switch to change the way the intended application will handle the shortcut?
actualy, i have followed these and othere forums for quite some time and i have yet to see if anyone has figured out how to get the media buttons working on roms were that feature does not come by default

Its not attribute, its parameter/arguments
Yes ! thats what we are talking about
I have created a cab file for the same. but the problem of using the htcwmpplugin is that the keys are mapped differently. the internet explorer key is mapped to the previous button and the play key becomes the previous key.. which is a problem.. that's why i want to know which keypad drivers are being used. The keypad drivers used for tornado music or imate sp5m is a little bit different.
Try using it..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=45775&d=1186047418]
i think i got it... i dumpeed the t-mobile rom took the keybddr.dll folder and incorporated it into andots ppe v6. i also removed the keybddr.dll had in it...
after building it...
i then i copied the sp5m zip files (those short_ap1-4 .lnks) to my windows folder, installed the cab tejasphatak gave here... then it all worked...
the keybddr.dll folder
here is the file incase you guys want it...

Auto Bluetooth On/Off with Audio Manager

Ok, my main goal when I got my unlocked vox was to make it the best possible mp3 player (which it is).
Now with a 6gb sd card and UBHS-LC1 bluetooth headphones all I need is this:
Is there anyway to make Bluetooth turn on (if it's not already on) when the Audio Manager application is ran.
Then likewise, when the Audio Manager program is killed Bluetooth will turn off (if it's not already off).
I would really like this functionality, does anyone know how to make it happen?
(please be specific)
is this not possible? or does everyone just turn on both "Audio manager" and bluetooth when they use blue tooth headphones?
You should look for a batch or script file tool for Windows Mobile. Don't know if that exists.

Hmm thanks for your tip. Looking into it now, but I don't think I'll find anything usable with my current windows mobile experience.
For some reason I feel like this should have a simple solution. Like maybe a .lnk file.

Nope, I tried, couldn't find one.
Any other ideas? Come on people, there must be something that can be done.
This could be useful in other arenas to. like automaticly turning on wifi when IE or opera mobile is opened.

How to re-map T-Zones key

Hi Gurus,
I've just upgraded my 2 year old TMobile SDA from WM5 to WM6.1 Std from Karhoe's excellent guide.
It worked beautifully, and now I'm trying to tweak the phone to make it better for me.
Firstly, I'd love to map the T-Zones key to the Task Manager app, which I run frequently to free up memory. With the original WM5, it was as easy as editing a registry after app-unlocking the phone.
With the WM6.1 update, I have no idea how to do that again. I found a reference to something like this on this thread but I don't want it to point to a different URL... I want to point it to the Task Manager launcher.
How do I do that?
Also, how do I change the default view on the 'Start' menu from a list of icons to a flat numbered list? I'd love to be able to launch an item with a number... they way I had it in WM5, because my toggle key isn't as responsive as it used to be.
Many thanks!,
Ananda
Edit the AP3 and AP4 file in Windows folder
Short v/s Long?
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction karhoe!
I re-mapped the T-zone button (Short_AP1, Long_AP1) links to point to the Tasks and Task Manager executables, but only the short_ap1 seems to work.
I'm assuming that the short_apX links are executed by a short press, and the long_apX links are executed by a long press... however pressing either for a short click or a long press, both only activate the short_ap1 mapped executable. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
H
I think I posted before somewhere about Long_AP# , it doesn't really work as it has something to do with the keyboard drivers.
Well, I have thought of what you thought before.
To have Short_AP2 to open Messaging, and Long_AP2 for compose new SMS
Ah!
So it doesn't work... possibly, as yet. O well... I can live with that.
Many thanks!

Ive found that the game Caver works well on the diamond 2 so far!
The slingplayer software for Slingmedia's Slingbox works well even in full screen.
Microsoft Voice Command 1.60 is really, really useful. I used it for a long time now on various devices.
I was disappointed at first that it wouldn't work on the D2 but now I have fixed it. The issue is with activation from a hardware button (there's only one programmable button anyway on the D2 and that is the long press button 1 - the send key). When I went into the button settings and assigned "Voice Command" from the list it just gave an error bleep and nothing else happened. It did work from a bluetooth headset though. So I tried running the actual program "voicecmd.exe" from within a file manager and it worked perfectly!
So, I created a shortcut into \\windows\start menu\Programs so that I had an entry in the programs list for "voicecmd". I then assigned that command into the buttons settings and it works fine now.
I hope this will help anyone else.

Enable GPS mode in the camera for geotagging and TomTom
Like previous phones, the Topaz includes a mode for embedding your location (from the GPS) into photographs.
This can be enabled by changing the value of the DWORD value Enable from 0 to 1 in the registry at HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/P10.
Initial indications are that the bug that plagues earlier versions (that of placing locations between 0 and 1 degree west of Greenwich to the east of Greenwich instead) is fixed.
To use this feature in TomTom Navigator, take a picture in GPS mode, then copy the photo out of the My POI folder into a folder named GEO-PHOTOS in the root of your storage card. Then TomTom can Navigate to Picture using the embedded co-ordinates.

Yes the above work.
What I have found that also works:
1. Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3 with NetCF 3.5 installed. Some settings do not change though and the Touch 3D in the extra settings does not work (incompatibility issue).
2. Xmatrix Battery and Memory Meter works (but you must restart/soft reset your D2 after installation even though there is no "restart" option after installation).
3. I have TomTom navigator 7.4 (Australia Maps) and it works ok.
4. RJV SMS Scheduler works a treat but I cannot turn off the audible notification of message sent. Not that annoying only if I am asleep!
5. Kaldma Stopwatch.
6. I presume Tmyynt SD TuneUp works. Installed fine and noticed a slight improvement in file transfer between SD card and device and external computer.
7. TF3D2 Tweak OK, except Program Icons Off does not work. Manilla Landscape works and is soooo cool.
That's it for now. What I am reeeeeally waiting/hoping for is a HardSPL that works on the D2 so we can start flashing a whole bunch of new ROMS.
Best regards to you all.
