Long live Touch Pro

The Hero runs Android Cupcake, right? Unfortunately, I don't think that's been worked on yet.
Currently, the Touch Pro just has a build of regular Android.

am i right in thinking the pro 2 is a the same o/s as the touch HD just with a keyboard and some nice features like twin mics etc
thinking of getting one of these when released, never had a WM device but reading this forum seems it will be able to be made to just about anything i want it to do.
looking at this or the nokia N97

Initially, I believe the Pro 2 will have a WM6.1 O/S, but probably a different/upgraded version of TouchFlo... HTC has already committed to having a WM6.5 upgrade for the Pro2 when it gets the 'official' version of the 6.5 O/S.

Welcome to the forum
TPro 2 can be a mixture of HD/TytnII/Universal and look great
And if wm6.5 does not come with it, I´m sure the update will be possible

Don´t go for Nokia
thanks guys for the info

how "android 2.0-friendly" are current HTC android phones?

Hello guys,
You 've made a great forum here, and i must admit you're all doing amazing work. I have a question that made me crawl out of my lurking cave.
I was thinking about buying a HTC Magic/Saphire phone. Maybe getting involved with some android development. Anyway, i was wondering how compatible the phones are with the upcoming android 2.0. I know multitouch will be support (and already is in Hero,) but does that mean that i will be able to upgrade to android 2.0 and enjoy multitouch in Magic? I know multitouch capabilities are already enabled through some roms.
Also, will i expierence slower speeds with coming versions of android? [i'm thinking the way a computer made with xp in mind, behaves when you install Vista on it].
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but i haven't found a clear answer yet
As far as MultiTouch is concerned...my understanding is that it will only work with capicitive touch screens. The Hero's screen is capacitive.
Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I am aware the G1(Dream) and Magic have risistive screens.
Paul, thanks for your answer
That's what i thought at first, and i was gonna wait for hero to come out in Greece, but i found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558344&highlight=multitouch
and this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4510792&postcount=26
so it seems it works with custom roms. Any ideas about the speed factor and/or the compatibility of the phones with future android versions?

Both the G1(Dream) and magic have capacitive screens. All Android phones on the market at this time have capacitive screens
Android 2.0 isn't being developed yet. 1.6 is though (codenamed donut.)
Cyanogen, over in the dream forum has already ported and IMPROVED 1.6 into the G1's.

That is not true either. 2.0 is rumored to be what is shipping on the upcoming Motorola Shules. The code name for 2.0 is eclair.
so, to get back to my original question, when Shules launches, will android 2.0 be portable to 1.6 phones like magic? i read that it won't be portable to G1 [or, to be more accurate, that they wont release an official update for it]

well the issue for the G1 was not have enough memory to "store" the update, but one of the lead developers said that the quote was taken in the wrong way. As far as I know, if you flash it yourself it should fit and work fine in the future. It is just that having the OS on there and then trying to do an Over the Air update would cause issues due to lack of space.
Alittle off the topic but, here's a spec chart of all the android phones on the market. http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/09/10/android-battle-cliq-edition/

Is Android 1.6 (Donut) working on the HTC Diamond?

This seems like a really obvious answer if you know it... but i have been looking high and low to figure this out. Is android 1.6 working fully on the HTC Diamond 500 CDMA (Telus)? I keep seeing things such as the GPS, Bluetooth, and data don't work on version 2.0.1 so I was just trying see what I was getting myself into if there's extra work
It's been a week and no replies but enough views... So is that a no? does no one know?

Yes. Check Xandroid website. You can install android on your SD card, and also install Gen.Ydualboot.......meaning you will have two OS ( wm and android). I have got them on my HTC HD.

Does everything (Camera/GPS/Mic./etc...) work? I've recently seen that Android 2.0.1 (Eclair) has made some progress but that is still not able to run these things which personally would render my phone useless
no man i was using android on my diamond for a long time, the system is good but sometimes the bugs are just @#$%^.....
That's why I got a cheap second hand HTC dream. I can say this phone is just so wicked! full keyboard FTW!

Froyo fully functional only on Vogue?

Hey everybody
I got a Touch Diamond and i've been running xdandroid 2.1 for a while (booting manually from winmo). I've recently seen a news post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712310) about a fully working froyo on HTC Vogue. As far as i can see, it's a windows mobile device - older and less capable than the Touch Diamond (please correct me if i'm wrong, which i probably am) - still it seems to be working better with froyo than my diamond is with 2.1? (i read that both gps AND camera is working on vogue+froyo).
Did i miss something, or what is up with that?
What i'm trying to say is, how is it that froyo is not fully working on other devices? Is it because the community around Vogue is bigger/better than around Diamond and they spend more time making it work, or is the Vogue somehow magically more prepared for Froyo? The reason i didn't post this in the Diamond forum is, i wonder - generally - how this can be?

[Q] Wm 6.5 on EVO Shift 4G !

Hi Everybody !
you all know how strange it might be some requests form your boss but this is the most strange one !
My Boss has a system that work on WM 6.5 only and doesn't work on WM 7 and he requested that I should Provide him with 40 New WM 6.5 devices !
you know that they are not available currently So I figured out that I should buy new WM 7 Devices and Flash it Back to WM 6.5 !
I think theoretically this is possible but have anyone tried it ?!!!
I want to Try it on EVO Shift 4G Device , Could anyone tell me what the steps I need to do that ?
any other suggested Devices ? I only want it to be New ,with QWERTY keypad and I can install WM 6.5 on it !
Thank you all in Advance.
Evo Shift isn't a Windows Mobile device.
Windows Mobile 7 doesn't exist, it's called Windows Phone 7 and it's an entirely different thing than Windows Mobile.
Flashing WM 6.5 isn't as easy as just putting it in and flashing like a rom, you would need to write a supportive kernel with drivers and some way get the resolution changed. This would all be hand(dedicated coder) done since the parts inside android phone's are basically generations new compared to any Windows Mobile Phone.
thank you for explanation
Buy the HD2 best wm phone and you can put Android on it

You can pick up Touch Pro 2's pretty cheap. They can be OC'd to almost 1gHz. I used to run mine at 900mHz all day and night. It was upgraded to WinMo 6.5 . Later on I ran Android on it for quite a while. Dual boot Android, and WinMo 6.5 . On Android it was OC'd to 1gHz stable. So you might want ot look into that. Plus they're still pretty popular, so you can get help with them.

The problem is I cannot find 40 piece of Touch pro 2 from a trusted Retailer !
If you give Sprint a call direcly. I'm sure you could get them from thier refurb department. Might even come with a warrenty. At the very least they can probably point you toward someone who can help you. Also, last time I checked the site. They still sold them new. Been a while though.
