Hello,
Sometimes (often) my Touch Pro doesn't recognize my SDHC card. Contact with the card disappears while using TP (very annoying while using the GPS in my car).
I tried many different ROMs from xda
I tried to replace my Sandisk 8Gb with a 16Gb Kingston
The problem persists.
Sometimes the card reappears after a soft reset sometimes not.
Sometimes the card reappears after waiting sometimes not.
I tried to modify some keys in registry (found on xda forum) with no luck
Is my Raphael good for the trashcan?

did you place the memory card correctly in the device? push it all the way in... there's a spring loading mechanism to push it out, and it'll work if you put it in correctly
// i originally thought that the card slot was like a microSDHC to SDHC adapter where you pull the card out, but found out about the spring, after seeing that the device not finding my memory card (because it was'nt in enough)
Yes, the card is inserted the right way.
Perhaps that's a bad contact but it's very difficult to see anything.
This problem seems frequent, I found many people talking about that on the board but no convincing answers for me
This has happened to me a handful of times.. The quickest thing I've noticed that gets it to work is inserting a different Micro SD and then removing it and inserting the original again. No clue why it happens, seems random?
Sounds crazy, but WD-40 is your friend. Sounds like your contacts for the card are dirty.
Try this. Remove the card. Use a can of compressed air and gently blow out the card slot. Take some WD-40 and spray a bit on a lint free towel. Use that to clean the card contacts. Don’t, spray the WD-40 directly on the phone or card, the propellants can damage the plastic. WD-40 by itself is very safe to use on almost anything.
I would apply enough WD-40 to the card with the hopes that it will make the contacts slight moist inside the slot. Maybe this will help.
I had a problem with my home button not working. I pried the edge up a bit and gave it a small blast of WD-40. Problem solved and has not re-surfaced in 3 months.
Plenty of people will disagree with this approach, but I use WD-40 for a great number of things.

I tried to use WD-40 the way you explained. It didn't solved the problem. After 24h the SDHC disappeared.
I tried to block the card in low position in the slot (string compressed) with a head of toothpick. Past some hours, SDHC was gone again
This makes me crazy!
Try adjusting the pnp delays with advanced config or a registry editor. Here's the settings in xml (from adv config):
Code:
<setting key="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager" name="PNPUnloadDelay" type="integer">

PNP unload delay

Specifies the delay in milliseconds between unmounting and detaching a storage device. A longer delay fixes disappearing SD card on some devices.

<values default="5000" />
</setting>
<setting key="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager" name="PNPWaitIODelay" type="integer">

PNP wait I/O delay

Specifies the amount of time (in milliseconds) waited before re-trying an I/O operation on an unavailable storage device. A longer delay fixes disappearing SD card on some devices.

<values default="5000" />
</setting>
I made 2 things:
- Farmer Ted registry changes
- I inserted a piece of thick plastic film between the card and and the small metal plate in order to push the contacts of the card toward those of the slot.
I'll give results here soon.
If I remember correctly, I turn off bluetooth when my fuze doesn't recognize memory card. I have jetbluetooth installed.

After flashing my ROM without changing the registry keys (Ted Farmer's), the SD card never disappeared again.
It appears that the plastic film trick was the solution of my problem.

Dear all,
I notice the following problems with "Bluetooth Settings screen". When I click on the bluetooth icon on the extreme right hand corner it would take from 5 to 20 seconds for the setting screen to come up. This will only happen if I have an SD card (Apacer 256MB) inserted in the SD slot. I have SanDisk SD Wifi card, even with this inserted it would take between 5 to 10 second to bring up the bluetooth setting screen. This happens for both the initial firmware as well as the latest firmware from official XDA II site. FYI, without any SD device inserted the bluetooth setting can be activated instantaneously. This problem can be replicated time and again so it is not something that is caused by any program installed (tested all that even after cold reset). Does anyone know of a solution to the problem? Thanks.
Regards,
Kueh.
Its likely that something on the card is slowing your XDA down..
What apps are installed onto the card ? if you have an app thats constantly being run from the card it will slow the system down, maybe not as much as you say but it does have a noticable effect with large apps.
My Bluetooth options pretty much come up instantly unless i have a few programs running, in which case it sometimes takes a couple of seconds or more..
Maybe your SD card is faulty. If so, your XDA might be constantly trying to read something from the card and keep hitting an error which isnt made known to the user. What id try is to backup the SD card, reformat it and then see if it happens again.
Hi,
I have no application running from the SD card. All of them are datafiles, mostly pictures, wmv and microsoft reader files. BTW, how do I format the SD card?. Thanks.
Regards,
Kueh.
I dont think theres an option to do it within the XDA2.
You'd need a card reader or someone who owns one which can reformat the card. If you dont want to by one or know anyone with one, go to your local PC shop, they might do it for you.
I'm having exactly the same problem.... accept for it only happens when turning on the XDAII - if I do remove the SD card then the problem does go away!!!
Is anyone else having this same problem with the BT Settings ??
You can format your SD card with a ppc application called XDA-storagetools (do a google search)
I suspect it takes longer for the BT radio to start when you have a card inserted may be because the BT software is looking for a BT device in th SD slot??
I have the same problem too...If i want to reformat my SD card through card reader, do i just simply format it in the like of formatting, for example, drive c: ? I mean, just 'right click' on the SD card and choose 'format' ? Or do i need to use a specific software ? Thanx...
You cannot format a SD card from a card reader - windaz don't do it.
You need special software, try a google search for xda storage tools
Ok...thanx a lot. By the way, how do we know that a slower BT settings is affected by SD card ? Just my curiosity :}
I don't believe formating the sd card will make any difference.... just having the sd card inserted into the XDAII is enough to cause the problem.
Could it have something to do with when the XDAII is turned on, it has to read/regonsie the sd card first... and the BT settings has to wait for this to happen??
Hi everyone!
I have an annoying problem with my orbit2 and its sd-card: every now and then the orbit corrupts the card so that the explorer does no longer list any files or directories. the files seem to be still present though as the memory manager claims the space still occupied. looks like the FAT is smashed somehow.
this happend with the standard 1gb card several weeks ago and now again with my new 4gb card as well. the problem this time is a) i want to get the data back and b) ensure this won't happen again.
i cant access the card by one of my two cardreaders, they get both stuck when the card is inserted.
i already googled around for some hours and of course tried to find a problem description in here but didnt find satisfying results ;-(
any of you got some information and suggestions 'bout this problem?
thx already
niGGo
Same problem here, does not register in any card readers either, most annoying!
format the SD card before use. it will solve the issuehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
solve the issue of not being detected by the card reader maybe ...
but what about the data loss on the xda? there is not even a write protection switch for a microSD card
My orbit 2 hasn't currupted my 4gb MicroSD card. I formatted it into FAT32 before I put it in my phone, so that might be why. Doesn't FAT have a limit of 3.5gb or sommat, where as FAT32 is much more.
hmm guess you are right but mine is already fat32 formatted
i never did this by hand so it was already like this when i bought it......
yep.... me too. After four weeks, my sd card shows folders with squares in the name fields... can't open them and lost a bunch of photos and videos, not to mention the applications that were installed in there as well...
4GB ScanDisk micro SD card
Must be some software on the device causing that, can't think it's a problem with the SD card
hmm hmm hmm ... was not using a programm shortly before the problem ocurred. i have a SanDisk card as well btw but as said in the first post the problem ocurred once with the 1gig card as well ...
i will try to get a cardreader that can deal with sdhc cards and then try to check the card again .....

I have considered that possibility... or maybe some particular configuration of one of the programs installed.
But I haven't changed anything in about four days... then only today the problem occurred. Only thing unusual I did today was take a bunch of photos and shoot some 4 or five 1 minute videos... could it be a problem related to CorePlayer/Camera/Video recording??
When I got back and synched it, the sd card was messed up... but I still could read my photos through the phone... then after a soft reset, the phone was not able to read my sd card anymore...
coreplayer is installed on my device as well but i don't think its related to it (just a feeling though)
the more interesting point is that you tool some photos .... i'm not totally sure but i've taken some pictures recently before the crash as well and they get saved to the storage card on my device ....
i will switch the save location back to main memory now for testing purposes and wait some weeks if theres no better idea
Hi,
I had the same problem with my 8GB SanDisk card every two or three days until recently. Two things changed:
1. flashed bepe's WM6.1 image
2. didn't install MortPlayer yet which I had running before
Now everything seems to be working fine. No problems for a week now.
I thought maybe there's a bug in WM6.0.
hmm i don't wanna install an unofficial WM update or ROM on my cellphone ... no problem doin' stuff like this on my pc or satellite receiver but my cell is kept clean
hope there will be a regular update then soon ....
...my experiences:
I had several crushes of the SD card, where I have lost almost all of the content. First lesson:
Backup/Sync SD with my PC regularly, so this is more a time issue now
Second:
I have discovered, that the loss happens (at least valid for me) when:
- device wake up from standby by pressing power button
and
- a program is running, which accesses data on SD card, like MP3 player, ebook reader or Navigation. All of them sores data on SD card.
Possibly a bug in the card handling part of code, where data/buffer is being written falsly, during wake up of the SDdevice.....
Can somebody proof that?
Regards
Dejan
I have never had a SD card corrupt on me.......My TC is as it came out of the box.....I have installed;
- AstroNavigator II
- Fun Contacts
- SMS Notifier
- PZP
I hope this helps..........
Will
I also encountered the first problem of this kind today:
Although I can still take photos on the card and they claim to be stored in /DCIM/100MEDIA/IMAGxxxx.JPG, the DCIM is shown totally empty when trying to access it via Explorer.
When I try to open the DCIM Directory with the tool Total Commander, the tool shows up an "Error 13 at directory change".
Does this mean my card is defect now? All the other directories seem to be okay. It is the original card I got with the XDA with TomTom installed on it. So I guess I might take it back to my provider.
Regards
Michael

I have the same card.
Even the same problem for a few times. For me a soft reset solved the problems. I had no data loss. So I would assume that it's a problem of the phone not being able to read the card properly for some reason.
Same here
I have an 8GB SD card and some of my folders vanished while some remained. All the files in the root are gone.
I used an SDHC reader to check on my PC and it cannot see the missing folder either.
Any suggestions for a good freeware MicroSD data recovery?
I guess the theory of the phone going standby while an app is writing to a buffer in the card is causing the big mess is right...
Cheers,

My two pen'orth -
Is this isolated or a major problem?
>I guess the theory of the phone going standby while an app is writing to a buffer in the card is causing the big mess is right...
If windows is using write back cacheing and the device switches off with the file data in the cache then maybe the card FAT is being corrupted
the artemis had this same problem, have a look in the sticky at the top of the artemis threads for the fix (it's worth reading), maybe it will work for the polaris, luckily I don't have one yet so I can't try it myself.

thought I lost all in my memory card (sandisk 6Gb) . That happened after reinserting the card in the cruise .
I found with the explorer that my card was empty ....but , I found also a card number 2 .
During the time when my card was out the Cruise , I used probably a program who needed a storage card . So I think (but maybe I'm totally wrong) that WM6 created a virtual card within the PocketPC .
So when I put my Sandisk back , A (virtual) storage card was already in the PocketPC . So my Sandisk has been renamed Card 2 .
I removed the Sandisk , deleted the Storage card (empty) with the explorer , and reinserted my Sandisk again .
Everything is OK .
In fact , nothing disappeared .
It happened to me 3 times in 3 days. The entire contents disappeared with no reason. I have never experienced this issue, but it is getting me out of my nerves.
My SD card is a Sandisk 8 GB SDHC.
I have scanned the card using a card reader and it seems that all the files are there, but they're unlinked. The space is used, but the files are not accesible, so when I go to Storage Card, I find it empty.
It's TOTALLY annoying. Please, give your experience if you have this problem.
Have you lost all your MicroSD card contents and you don't know why?
My Sandisk 8gb card came with a USB2 card reader that is great speed-wise; but twice I lost all the data when using it. I didn't realize it might be related at the time, but then I misplaced the reader and switched to using the adapter kind -- the SD sized thing that you slip the microSD card into (my laptop has a SD card slot). It's been a few months now, and with constant switching of the card between my Touch, Touch Cruise and laptop, I've not lost the data since.
While I can't say for sure it's related, it hasn't happened since I stopped using the USB adapter that shipped with the card.
I think it's not related to the use of the adapter since the first time I lost my files I was on a route using Tomtom 7. In my way back, I had to go without the navigator :S No maps, and the videos and pictures that I took, totally lost.
Fortunately I have an application that is pure gold to recover every disaster that could happen (recovers partitions even after formatting the disk, and files with their original names). It's not pleasant for me to use this application ("[email protected] Partition Recovery Enterprise"), but this is becoming too usual...
By the way I'm using udK's WM6.1 ROM R6, even though I don't think it's related to it.
My MicroSD is formatted in FAT32 with 32KB clusters.
Any ideas about how to fix this problem?
The last time I lost the contents I was about to sync music with WMP (with the USB connected).
Good luck... I'm using the ROM that shipped with the device. Guess the only way to know if it's related to a cooked-ROM is to re-install the official ROM and see how things go.
I'm using HTC original ROM and 8Gb Sandisk card with no problem for more than 3 months. My fingers are crossed
I'm using HTC original ROM and 8Gb Sandisk card with some issues (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407046&highlight=bodisson), but no files are missing.
Sometimes I get extra file names with really weird characters. Usually, if I reinsert the card, these go away and I can access normally the card.

that happened to me twice..my problem was solved by installing an sd enhancement cab file. almost everything appeared back in my sd.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/kr98xz
did you use something like sktools for change pathes of temp/cookes files of I.E or so on?
If yes it could following happend:
You change the destination path for some application like InternetExplorers Temp and Cookies pathes to point to Storage Card.
After this you removed the card on any time.
The device cannot find the path to the Storage Card and creates a folder "Storage Card" on the root of the internal device memory.
If you insert a card again, it show you onliy the content of the new folder.

Dudes,
I'm bought a sandisk 8gb micro SDHC about a month ago.
Filled it almost to the brim with music and podcasts.
I regularly uses great programs like S2P and BeyondPod for music and podcasts to listen with my Bluetooth A2DP headset.
Had no problem until recently where the entire card is not readable anymore
Symptoms:
1) the phone started not to recognise the SDHC, where it could not detect any inserted card
2) the failures on the SDHC gave me corrupted files. I was able to repaired these by using the Windows XP chkdsk and fix error command
3) by the 3rd time i did this, the card was not readable at all
Suspects:
1) every time polaris hang, i would press the reset button. I suspect tat this would corrupt some files (possibly even the entire SDHC ??)
2) every time polaris hang, i think the phone was running more than 1 app at the same time. In my case, it was probably S2U2 and S2P or BeyondPod, together with BT A2DP.
Don't think it was caused by these great apps, but rather the way Polaris or WindowsPPC handles multi tasking
Will be returning the 8gb SDHC soon for a replacement.
Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again ?
(other than not running multiple apps at the same time)
Thx
BTW, i'm running windows 6.0, the original HTC polaris rom
Also have a Scandisk 8gb card in my Polaris...
Problems im suffering is that now and then the storage card looses connection.... I can not see it on my mobile and also its not showing up using ActiveSync.
It happens really often and mostly when im using software that depends on it like IGO. The application crashes because it can not access the files needed.
Ive read somewhere that this only happens with scandisk cards so im considering buying a kingston card.. can anyone verify this??
Well the best thing is to make sure, you safely remove your hardware before removing the sd card from the pc or otherwise change the device settings of the memory card to "optimize for quick removal" in the device manager
I recently switched from a non-sdhc card (1 GB) to a SDHC 4GB kingston.
weirdest of all things is that i lose certain applications, but not all!
For instance i have TomTOm installed. Stopped functioning and lost the icon. But SK Tools still works. :S
I'm not very happy with this, since i use my phone ALOT with TomTom and all the other apps i installed on it. Especially at work.
Gonna try the artemis sd fix... Hope it works.
Could it be that you'd made a rom-upgrade with the sd-card in the phone? I had the same problem - lost files on sd-card - with the original 1GB-Card and a new 4-GB-SDHC. I think (and hope) that leaving the card while upgrading has reasoned this issue. After reformating the card in the pda the problem has gone for me . Thank you for your answers...

Yes, i actually did leave the card while upgrading. But i didn't lose any data until a few days AFTER the upgrade. And i frequently soft-reset the device.
I solved my problem (i think) by deleting 'program files' on the storage card and making a new 'program files' folder. It works for a few day now. (keeps fingers crossed)
I did a ROM upgrade (udK Diamond R7) without the microSDHC card, and yesterday night I lost all my files for the nth time.
The space remains used. I was listening to a podcast (that was stored into the card), and suddenly, when I ran the File Explorer to do something, all the files were missing. The podcast played correctly, but when I tried to re-open it, the file could not be found.
I'm feed up with this problem. It is like having no card at all...
Please, we need somebody to fix it. Is it happening to other brands of only Sandisk?
Thanks.
I simply turned my phone off. Then back on again and storage card had turned into storage card 2. Everything I had on the card was lost. So I carried on using the card and now its storage card 3 and the data from when it was called card 2 is now lost.
copilot often asks me to insert map data.
Ive found that if I remove the card and close all programs before I turn the phone off I dont lose data.
O2 told me to send it in for replacement. That was months ago. Not had chance yet. Might be too late!?

Do you mean that the problem might be the cooked ROM? Maybe we can isolate the problem with this approach.
Hi,
I have tried a couple of different cards in my Raph100, and I get "Not installed" in the Storage card control panel.
In the about page, installing and removing the card changes the status of Expansion slot: from "In use" to "Not in Use", so something is happening.
I have formatted the card as fat32 from Windows 7, and even removed and re-added the partition with Linux Disk Utility. I also tried a different card.
Is there any hope? I just saw there's been some activity on the Android side recently, so I thought I'd dig out the old Raphael. Looks like maybe it's dead.
Thanks
Edit: more messing around, and things are fine. Post can be deleted if you like.
Mods: feel free to delete this useless post now.
Well since you found out how to do it, it would be nice if you could share this information.
I'm having the same issue.
I had this issue with one of my HTC Fuzes too. The Fuze would not recognize the SD card. I tried several alternative SD cards that we had on hand varying in gigs ranging from 2 to 16, some new and some used. None of them were recognized. I determined that the card reader slot was just dusty. I puckered my lips in kissing fashion to direct my breath into the slot and blew as hard as I could (careful not to spit!). That did the trick! When I reinserted the SD card in the slot, it was read normally and perfectly.
Canned air probably would have been a better and safer way of blowing out the dust.
So today after a reboot, my Skyrocket no longer reads the 32gb Sandisk MicroSD I've been using in it for a year now. The card has worked flawlessly and now it's unrecognizable. So, I figured, whatever, cards die, right? I took it out of the phone and stuck it into the PC adapter (which is tested to work, based on other cards I have) and NOTHING. According to every resource on Windows 7 and XP, no external media is present at all.
What. The. Hell.
Anyone have this problem or have a fix? All my photos and lots of stuff for work is just gone, forever, somehow. Please help.
Jon
Sounds dead. I would carefully polish the gold contacts a bit with a soft abradant, like an ink eraser. Avoid static discharge. Remove any debris and retry detection in a known good card reader. Also retest your 2 card readers' MicroSD slots with a working card.
Agreed - it sounds dead. If you have data on it, have you tried recovering the data on it using the SanDisk tools?
Google "recover flash sd card sandisk" - sorry I can't paste a direct link yet (not enough permissions on XDA yet)
SanDisk will probably replace it for you under warranty.
