VZOmobile for Windows Mobile - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Has anyone tried this app before? Is it really the best app to make videocalls for free connected to the internet?
More info here:
http://www.soft32.com/Download/Free/VZOmobile/4-227857-1.html

I've messed around with it. Based on what I've found, it's really pretty much the ONLY video chat client for windows mobie -unless you count the useless Micro$oft Portriat thingy.
Anyway it seems to work ok - of course still kinda sucks for me because here in the USA we don't get the front-facing cameras...grrrrrr (although I'm trying to get my hands on the part and add it to my Fuze...hehe)

Blackboard Application

I'm looking for a Blackboard Application for Android (obviously). If you don't know what the program is here is a link. It's used for class work at a lot of colleges. There is a mobile app available for iPhone and I believe one is in development for Blackberry.
http://www.blackboard.com/
I previously have worked with Blackboard as both a student and an instructor. Aside from the fact that Blackboard, eLearning, WebCT, etc are all crappy tools, I believe their API for access is completely closed off so developing an Android app relies mostly on Blackboard's end to develop it.
I know it's not the answer you're looking for, but there are other tools on the web like Blackboard that provide your own private course set up to keep track of your documents for class, etc. If you just keep on top of what's being uploaded for Bloackboard then you can keep a pretty nice management suite for all of your coursework, but it obviously won't be up to date with what your teacher uploads.
I hope you find something that works, cause I've looked into this myself. Let me know if you have any luck.
If I recall, blackboard is basically implemented as a website.
That being the case, just point your browser at it and be done.

Yes I figured as much. I wrote blackboard on the situation and I've not received a response and I don't think that I should. I had heard however that certain rooted Android based phones are able to run iPhone apps. I don't know if thats because of developers converting the apps or there is actually an emulator available.

That was my initial attempt actually. Their are various plugins with the site that make that complicated. The website rejects logins from mobiles. I actually have trouble accessing the website unless I'm using either Firefox or IE.

You sure about it rejecting mobile sites? I do remember accessing the site via Opera Moblie 9.5 beta(when it was just leaked) on my WM phone and via Opera Mini 4 with out an issue.

Yes it actually has to do with the school. While Blackboard is run via a website that website is administered by the school. The school I go to blocks all connections from cell phones for some reason. I've spoken to the IT support guys but they don't seem to care about working with me. I'm transferring schools next semester so hopefully I won't have to worry about it after that.
Im not positive, but i am pretty sure i have accessed blackboard with my mytouch. i am running CM 4.2.8 and enochx. what you have to do is go into the browser and go into settings, there is an option called mobile web settings and in there you can choose desktop and it makes you phone like a regular browser. thats what worked for me, hope it works for you too.
Works on Dolphin for me, check my grades there often.
I have also been able to access blackboard just fine on the default browser and Dolphin Browser.
A stand alone app would be cool, but would require alot of work and possibly authentication from the school? which would not happen
I use blackboard with my g1 browser quite often. I cannot say that there are no problems, but can that ever be said in regards to blackboard?
as a student I've used Blackboard, WebCT and Moodle..and i gotta say I found Moodle to be the coolest (and as I recall it's open source).
Anyway, if your school blocks connection from mobile phones, you can use the Dolphin Browser (or the default one if it's modded) and change the user-agent to Desktop instead of Android. Maybe that would work?
Bb on G1
It's always been a bucket of headaches, but i can confirm that perseverance pays off. The main issue is endless loop/failure on trying to login. My most reliable way around this is by accessing my school's main student portal page first and after logging in there, using the Blackboard course link. Kind of a backdoor in but if your school provides that sort of portal, it's worth a shot. Also FYI, when I had a BlackBerry I never had any luck with stock browser, but Opera always worked. Good luck, hope this helped.
so apparently there is a Sprint only Blackboard app out now for Android phones, does anyone know why it's only for Sprint phones or if it'll ever be a standard market app?
YES!! my school has quite a bit of trouble working blackboard, and there are always issues getting students into class, allowing them to see the class shell etc... And on dolphin I can check it, but sometimes it would block me. This app is extremely needed. Sucks its only on sprint....but I'm glad i got a sprint hero!
I am desperately trying to find this app so I cant install it on my phone even though i am with T-mobile.

Why doesn't someone just use skyfire, let's you fool a page that you're a desktop and not a phone.

Android Webcam

I have been wondering thru the internet and have found many ideas of using a mobile phone with Android on it as a webcam.
placeware has been working on developing one but i can not seem to get in contact with these guys or find there app.
This would be a really cool idea and has already been implemented on the nokia s60 s40 etc. But not for the Android.
I think the best approach however would be finding out how qik use the the cell network to send video to their site.
Just do to this representation of a live video feed means that this would be very possible.
Some other ideas would be to use Bluetooth, Wifi or USB to connect the phone for webcam use.
This is qik the video streaming peeps
cant post the link
This is the webcam idea some other group had but has recently appeared to die...
cant post the link
...
That is a cool app for sure but the intention here is to not have to buy a web cam when i have a perfectly good 5mp camera on my phone.
As well as a wireless one to boot would be really cool.
Not to mention using the phone as a mic as well.
For instance; To use with skype to show somebody certain objects or large objects that you would not normally be able to show easily with a wired webcam.
I think it would just be really cool to have a phone with a cam facing you to use apps like skype on android....
Somebody really needs to do something like this it would be really really awesome and convenient to use.
However, The basic idea being feeding video to a computer to use for whatever you would want.
+1 on this.
I've been waiting for something for ages for this on my Nexi. I mean it may need root access but IDC, because it's better than most webcams probably.
This is a really good idea, I'm surprised an app hasn't been made for this yet. Hopefully it's just a matter of time.
This would be cool, hoe someone picks up on this

HTC HD2 Apps: Loudtalks v0.9.0.70

Turn your HD2 into walkie talkie with Loudtalks.
Loudtalks is a push-to-talk application for Windows and Windows phones. It's lightweight, easy to use and extremely fast. Better yet it's free and will always remain free for personal use.
Features:
Fast - Loudtalks conversations are nearly as fast as face-to-face and possibly the fastest way to communicate online.
Easy to use - To start talking you just push F7. It works even when the application is minimized.
One to many - With Loudtalks you can voice message two, three or even a hundred people simultaneously.
Voice history - Re-play your conversations when you want from the voice history.
Lightweight - We hate bloated software. Loudtalks setup for Windows is under 2 Mb and the program takes up little system resources and memory
Automatic - In the most cases you don't have to configure anything to start using Loudtalks
Loud - Unlike traditional VoIP applications you don't have to use a headset with Loudtalks. Just plug-in a microphone (or use a built-in one) and play the sound via speakers. That's much more convenient.
Portable - When installed on USB thumbdrive Loudtalks will recognize that and will work in portable mode leaving no trace on host computers.
Mobile - Use Loudtalks for Windows Mobile to turn your handheld into two-way radio!
Multilingual - Loudtalks has been translated to 11 languages. More translations will be added over time.
3G and EDGE compatible - Loudtalks works great over WiFi and 3G, and even could be used on GPRS and EDGE.

Pretty much what I was thinking, this app is amazing.
Wonder what the battery usage is on it. Anyone know if it's a bat killer? I just got it. Also, anyone try this for gaming yet?

ive been using this app since its first public release. it is a major battery killer concidering it is in a constant send/recieve mode. overall this app is cool but you should use it while the charger is plugged in.
cool app works good (not nextel) battery killer though
I have been using this app for several days on touch pro 2 it works good as long as you dont go to "options" in menue and try to change anything in "control' the phone crashes and battery needs to be removed. However it works great if you dont mess with control in menue options
And there is a new version uploaded on loudtalks.com a while ago. Version 0.9.0.77 is the actually one (see my signature)

Logmein Remote Control "Ignition for Android"

I've been waiting for this app and am not disappointed. What a great way to remote control your desktop. All you need is this client on your Evo and a free account at logmein.com. Total no brainer setup. The App is in the market as of today. Very cool.
This is by far the most underwhelming product logmein has come up with. I was a beta tester and I can tell you I would recommend waiting on this to mature (or not buy it at all).
This app force closes, has a memory leak, sometimes will randomly log me out of my pc, and my personal favorite - restarts my phone at will.
I have tried it with
- stock rom
- rooted rom
- diff evo
- new sd card (for giggles)
- on wifi
- on 3g
To ask 30 bucks for this is absolutely crazy. It's a pitty really. I would almost think about it if it was reliable.
Yeah, seriously, this is one of the worst product ever and definitely the worst ever from LogMeIn.
Everything that fr0st said + the app doesn't even let you use your finger as the mouse. Rather, you have to drag the screen around to your static mouse position... W.T.F!
The web interface for LogMeIn is WAY better than this app AND it's free. $30? Again, W.T.F are these guys smoking...?
I've been satisfied with PhoneMyPC since I got my first Android device.
This was the reply from logmein.
We did make changes after the beta ended. If you purchase the finished product and are still having issues, you can call in to our support team at 1-800-993-1790 to get assistance with resolving them.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

Ah, no. Not giving you 30 bucks to call tech support.
I used the beta too and found it difficult to navigate the pc with the static mouse. The 30 dollar price tag is WAY too much for an app in my opinion. Unless it does something amazing.
HTC evo
for those with the technical knowledge and ability, Wyse has a VERY nice RDC/VNC client available. (basically, configure your home pc to accept rdc connections and configure your router to allow the traffic through and viola...direct RDP connection...no logmeinscrewyou needed.)

All those issues pretty much stink. I've been using it for a couple days pretty hard and have not had a single issue....yet. I'm using a rooted 1.47 and have used it on wifi, 3g and 4g without a problem. The screen movement under the mouse takes a little getting used to but I kind of like it now. I'm new to android and have not tried any of the other remote apps but it sounds like I need may to, to get some perspective. For now it is the only way I can run my company scheduling program on my Evo.
What about a remote control software for mac?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I haven't had any force closes with lmi for android and I've been using it for over a month. To be able to remote into the more than 100 pcs that I support, from my EVO, is a huge time saver. Worth the money to me.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Its actually a known issue.
http://community.logmein.com/t5/User-to-User-Support/android-force-close/m-p/40391
I am just saying I would not recommend it. If it works for you thats awesome. I support clients all over the US and logmein would be a great benefit to me. However even when you contact tech support the tell you "its a new app, give it time". So I am waiting for it to improve.
Also. Please provide the rom your using a point of reference. I would like to do some additional testing.
Whooaa 30 bucks for that program? Hmm maybe a penny is what its worth.
*This was posted from my Evo 4G*
Second the request for a Mac option. So far, LogMeIn is the only one i know of that supports Mac, but if there's another way, I'd love to know!

Wow! This is awesome! Thanks a bunch. So much better + free.
OK, well Wyse looks very cool and I configured it and all, but just get a Could not connect to server message...
mmm...
i use it to connect to both work and personal systems...in local network and through firewalls...both RDP and VNC...to a few flavors of Windows and one flavor of linux. aside from not being on a 22" wide screen it works quite well.
the only thing i can think of off the top of my head would be this....
on the username line - did you enter it like "mydomain\myaccount" or "MyComputerName\MyAccount" or simply "MyAccount".
also, you may want to try connecting via IP address...to eliminate DNS issues.
Got it all sorted out, thanks. Awesome program. WAY better than LogMeIn. Hopefully their price is reasonable when it leaves beta.

Just out of curiosity, what fixed it? It didnt work for me at first, then i set up a desktop password and it worked. My only issue with it is that you log into the computer as another user and cannot use it as to start music and have it played through the home computer.

The Windows Operating System requires a password be used on accounts that allow a RDC session (just a baseline level of security).
not sure about your last sentence.
- my assumption is that you are remoting into your desktop...double clicking on MediaPlayer...and not hearing anything on your EVO....i would expect that behavior.
- if you wish to stream audio from your home pc then you'll need an application designed to that.
- if you meant that you basically wanted to be able to scare your girlfriend by remoting in and turning on winamp with some deathmetal...you should be able to do that, but i have not tested it.
and yes, i pray they provide pleasant pricing for the product.
I just logged in using 3G instead of WiFi (so off the network) and it worked fine.

[Q] Best Wifi Calling App

What is the best WiFI calling app for windows phone? It needs to be cross platform to iOS.
From the reviews ive read Viber and Skype dont work at all? is this true? Im heading down to Peru and it would be helpful to make WiFi calls.
Thanks,
Skype and Viber both work fine for me to any platform. Best one varies on time of day, network loads and what country you call.
Not sure where people come up with the loads of misinformation there is about WP8. Possibly due to WP7's patchy support and API's but for general day-to-day usage, WP8 is the same as the rest.
Yep I use Skype all the time with no problems at all.
MobileVOIP is also okay...
I downloaded and installed Skype on my 1020 but I never had chance to test it because I have had to send my phone off for a new screen But before I get it back, What program are you using and when other programs work like Skype?
Skype is the best for me.

Line and Skype are the best WiFi Application. I have used both of them on my Nokia Lumia 1020 and also the video clarity is very good.
