Can't save photo - folder renaming problem - General Topics

Hello,
I am having the following problem: I can't save photos I take - neither on the SD card, nor on the device. Since that part of my device is in Japanese, I attach pictures of the two messages, hopefully someone can tell what exactly they mean.
http://cheeseus.org/images/camera_issue.jpg
---- PS. That sorted. First photo says "cannot save picture", second says "please insert miniSD card"... well, I have inserted one.
Now, I am guessing where the problem originates. In order to switch the device into English, I made some changes in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/MUI/CurLang 1041→1033
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/MUI/SysLang 1041→1033
and also renamed a few folders, including "My Documents\マイピクチャ → My Pictures", and also the "miniSDカード" to "miniSD". The system is very probably looking for the folders with their original Japanese names.
My question is, can I change the name of the save location for the camera, somewhere in the registry I presume?

I have found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=237846
and tried to follow instructions there, but to no avail. Set
"DefaultDir"="\Storage Card"
I do not have item
"DiskName"="DSK3:"
Perhaps I should create one?
After I take a picture and get the warning message and press OK, the screen goes white and the only thing I can do is close the camera.
Help, please?

How to store emails on SD card in Wm2005

Hi all, I'm a noob with a Wizard on O2 running WM2005. I have had some partial success with the above topic. Would appreciate any advice as to whether I've done something really silly or whether the idea could be taken further.
OK, I nicked all of this from other threads so only take the credit for putting it together.
Suggest before you start you empty all of your mailboxes on the device.
Step 1. Disable messaging on startup. Believe there are two ways of doing this, one is to remove it from the "Today" screen items, or the following registry hack. "HKLM\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Messaging" And change Enabled to 0
Step 2. Apply the following hack: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MAPI Add a new string value called PropertyPath. For the value in that field, I added the storage card directory without the "attachments sub folder. i.e. \Storage Card\Inbox.mst... where ... is the (random?) number assigned.
Ok, when I synch the device, all of my emails now go to the storage card in the above named directory.
Right, now for the "partial" success bit (hoping the experienced guys can help out here).
Because I've disabled messaging in the registry, in order to get the items on the today display, I have to go into settings etc. Once that is set, it updates the registry so at reset time it screws up and creates a new "storage card" directory on the unit itself and renames the storage card as storage card 2.
Any thoughts on how to get round this ?
I've tried adding "messaging" to the startup folder and it ***** up as above.
So... thoughts are as follows:
Is it possible to add a cab to the extended ROM which forces the registry key to zero on reset (was thinking along the lines of the one already there which removes the battery icon)
....and for the gurus, is there something I could run to automatically add the "messaging" item to the today screen with some sort of delay on it to allow the card to initialise ?
and finally, have I banjaxed my device by doing this? Seems to work OK
Thanks all

Can't view my photos "from the camera". Memorycard not recognized.

I have an annoying problem that stems from the fact that my device renamed my memorycard from "memorycard" to "memorycard2".
I run a Swedish device, but I will try to rename to the best of my abilities.
I have a Polaris with the standard ROM, but this problem is more general in nature. I synced my memorycard with the camera, so that the photos I take are put on the card. I could then view my photos in the "camera album" software. Then I removed the card and after replacing it, it got the new name "memorycard2".
I still have the DCIM folder on the memorycard and the photos are still stored on the card in that folder. But I can't view them since they aren't loaded into the software. All the new photos aren't detected either.
I can still use the file explorer or the software called "photos and videos", but it's still a lot of work for a simple task.
So is there a way to A)get the software to load the picture already on the card and/or B)re-detect the folder so that the new pictures at least gets loaded in the software?
Thanks in advance!
Small bumb, sorry for that but it's an annoying problem.
Have tried a few trick myself, like renaming the DCIM folder in order to force the phone to create a new one. It worked, but "photo album" will still not show the pictures...
So please, help me if you can! As of now it's a bit hard to use the phone as a camera.

Camera problems - takes photos but does not save it

Hi,
since a few days I have a very strange bug: My camera takes the photo (you can hear the "click") but does not store it. I cant find the photos, not on the HTC and also not on the storage card.
I am running the WM 6.1 Upgrade but at the beginning it worked. In my opinion its not a update-problem.
Any suggestions? Do I have to fix something in the registry?
In my opinion somehow the link from the camera to the album is "broken".
Thanks!
Christian
Install Schap's Advanced configuration tool and check/set there saving location for pictures. Search forums for tool.
It's NOT update problem. At least I don't have it.
ive had the same problem when i flashed a new rom.. but it was only when my saving location was pointed at my storage card. so i changed that to my phone and its fixed!
Hmmm... my phone is normally saving to storage card...
So I think BadBoy has a problem...
@188236:
Additional idea. If you don't already have Total Commander, install it and try to find pictures, both via extension and/or date.
Solution!!
OK, its easy if you know it:
Somehow the picture folder was corrupted. Just delete all files in the folder, restart and try again. I my case it worked.
I have the same problem. Once the pic is taken it hangs and times out. Doesn't save the picture. I have the app to specify pic location. Doesn't help. Which picture folder do I delete? The one on the device or a folder on the sd card?

Camera picture prefix instead of image_###.jpg

XDA-readers,
I had a question about the prefix you can select in the camera settings.
With this I mean, when a picture is saved, the name is image_024.jpg,
but with a prefix it's for example 20091215_14:00.jpg.
I read that the prefix can only be selected if you save you're pictures to you're phone in stead of the storage card? This I find weird.
Is there a tweak or am I missing something?
Because on my P3600 it was possible to use the prefix.

I did see this the other day, when I was digging round in the registry, and I'd be happy to try and find it again for you, but before I do, I'm pretty sure that you can only set a static prefix. For example, it's currently image001, image002, image003 etc.. You can change the word "image" to something else, but you can't make it save the image with a datetime like you've suggested.
Still want me to look? I don't really see the point in changing it, personally.
Reason
Thanks for the time!
The reason was that I got used to is with my HTC P3600. Most of the time I have my pictures sorted by name and not by date. The handy thing about the date-time prefix is that I could keep the pictures sortbed by name, and have the pictures sorted by date-time at the same time. Also, you never have the same name for new pictures, for example if you reset the counter.
So that's the reason, for you to deside if you put more time in this topic.
many thanks,
Timo

Yeah, I understand why you'd want that, and I'd probably switch it on myself, if it were an available option. I suppose the next best thing would be an app that when run would scan your images folder and rename all the files, according to their date/time.
Hmmm.... may be something for me to look at tonight
Possible
If that's possible, it would be the next best thing indeed.
But the possibility to put the 'prefix' option on would be awesome
I still don't understand why it can only be switched on when saving on the phone memory instead of storage card...

I'm very dubious about that. Where did you get that information?
Just tried it, and it's stupid, but true.
-Put storage on phone (instead of card)
-Then go to the 'prefix' setting and you see you can change it to date-time
it's also in the manual, page 244:
----
Prefix. The file name of a newly captured photo or video is set to “IMAG” or “VIDEO” followed by a sequential number, for example: IMAG0001.jpg. You can also choose the current Date or Date & Time as the file name prefix.
Note You cannot change the file name prefix when saving captured photos to a storage card. Captured photos are named using the convention IMAGnnnn.jpg (where ‘nnnn’ is the counter), and are saved to the \DCIM\100MEDIA folder on the storage card.
----

Yeah, that is stupid.
Luckily, there's a registry hack to enable datetime prefix when you have storage on the card
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3036115&postcount=4
Do the registry change and then soft reset. You can then select storage as card and prefix as datetime.
Thanks mate - I've learned something new today, and I'll definitely use it!
Cheers!
Thanks
Thanks!
I'll test it today!
WORKS!!!

You need to provide more infomation so we can help you .
Which version are you using (WM 6, 6.5, 6.5.3 etc.)? Where are the folders located? Do they contain files?
Sorry. Runninng WM6.5 stock verizon ROM with TF3D 2.0 on my Imagio. And they don't contain any files. I can open, but when I go to delete, it says files cannot contain the following symbols blah blah blah. And I can't seem to find them using TC.

Are the folders on the SD card ? My suggestions below:
1) If they are, try deleting them from the Windows PC side via an ActiveSync connection or in "Disk drive mode".
2) Try renaming the folders with 'proper characters' and then delete.
3) If in "disk drive mode", try removing them via DOS command. You may want to do a "dir /X" to see the 8.3 short file/folder name and remove them.
Regards.

No, they aren't on the SD card, they are phone memory. Whenever I try to rename them, I get the same error code, telling me files cannot contain the following..... And as for the last, I don't know anything about DOS, so that would require a level of expertise that I just don't have. I haven't seen any strange behaviour on the phone, and my memory size and usage has not freaked out, nor has my battery life. So what they are or what they are for is beyond me.
The 3 files are names thus:
??????
????Documents
oc????
Very odd.

Jerry,
My suggestions are only if the files reside on the SD card.
I believe the ? means the available fonts, on your phone, does not have the correct character set to display it properly.
Base on my belief above, try the following:
a) My apology being a new member, I am not allowed to post clickable link. Go to this link : add a http:// in front first
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5869460
b) Download and install the "Droid Sans Font.cab" to your phone in post #9. Alternatively, search for the file, arialuni.ttf, (Arial Unicode MS) first on your Windows PC if not then on the web and copy it to your phone, \Windows\Fonts directly. This is a 22Mb file !
c) Restart your phone and see if those files are showing proper characters.
d) If it does, then go ahead, open it and see what's the content like. Rename the file then delete. Uninstall the "Droid Sans Font.cab" if you wish. Personally, I don't like the font as the characters are rasterised.
Regards.
ugh, too much work. My phone isn't acting up, and even though I don't like uninvited strangers, they aren't eating up resources, and my phone is still functioning properly. I will keep these files you suggested handy in case something does start acting up, and see what happens.
yea, I am lazy when it comes to electronic stuff. Thanks for the info!
If you have SK Tools (or a similar app), try scanning the memory. It sounds like you have corrupted files or a corrupted directory. It may not be causing issues now, but it could cause issues sooner rather than later. You may also think about backing up everything now while you can.
