PPC as a Wlan-stick - General Questions and Answers

Hi ^_^
I'm a proud owner of a Diamond and want
to share its wlan-internet-connection via usb
with my Laptop, which sadly doesn't have wlan.
I searched a lot but even google doesn't seem to find
the answer so please help me
dearest greetings
Vic

Interesting idea.
I've got an old Sony PCG-505E that has to use a PCMCIA card for ethernet OR wireless (a card for each).
If I was able to tether my phone to it, the phone could in theory provide the network connection via internet sharing.
I will have to investigate this.

http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
should do it

Are you sure? WMWifirouter is meant for sharing a dialup-connection via
Wlan not sharing a Wlan-Connection via USB

Yes WMWiFiRouter will do it.

Wireless modem

Ok here is the deal, I have an HTC universal with a laptop that does not have a wireless interface.
can I configure my laptop to connect to the internet through my HTC ?
if yes, how ?
note, its not a GPRS wireless modem, its a WIFI connection!
and sorry if there's already a thread about it, bt am just sick of reading.. kinda fraustrated
Internet Sharing on WM6 works for me. I use the Bluetooth option & I access the internet via 3G.
Internet Sharing also has a USB option. Try that & see if it works over WIFI.
Oooooh that would be nice, using the universal as a wifi adapter... never thought of that and how useful it would be to me.
Heres to hoping eh?

Share Internet for other Devices

Hello,
I connect tornado device to a Wi-fi hot spot, and I want to know if it is possible to share its internet connection with other devices through bluetooth.
Thanks in advance!

At the moment, you can share only your data (GPRS/EDGE) connection though PAN/USB (Internet Sharing app) or ad-hoc WiFi (WiFiRouter app). Unfortunately WiFi connections cannot be shared, neither thought USB nor PAN. If I am wrong, please do correct me!
There is a way, but only for PDA, i think it shares wifi via BT
Are you sure that it is possible to share the internet connection.
I tried with ipaq 2215 pda, but I couldn't manage to connect.
Thanks in advance.

Internet Sharing using my SDA?
I've been banging my head on this one. I've got "Internet Sharing" App installed on my SDA with WM 6.0. I can connect to my Laptop via USB cable and "share" the internet in that way. I"ve tried "Internet Sharing" via Bluetooth or DUN attempts via BLuetooth to no avail. Any hints how to get Bluetooth functioning with "Internet Sharing" or DUN? Thanks in advance.

Using the ppc as a WIFI adapter (not router)?

Is there a way to use the ppc as an wifi adapter for a PC?
Basically I want to share internet through USB connection, which is easy when using cellular network, but not if I want the PPC to have internet access via WIFI.
I have a regular wireless router, but my PC doesn't have a wireless wifi adapter, so I want to use the PPC as the adapter. Is it possible?
Thanks a lot..

ICS Control (and probably the latets version(s) of WMWifiRouter) are supposed to support Wi-Fi routing to USB - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407563

I found this, but you have to use Linux.
Sorry for the trouble with the link, but it does not allow me to post one.
What you are referring to is called "Reverse USB Tethering". It is a function available by default in HTC phones (Internet Pass Through) but sadly we do not have this function natively built in. I made a thread on this topic long time back, search for it.
It all depends on what OS you are using on your PC and whether or not you have a static LAN connection. Theoretically it can be implemented for Windows but it is quite tricky and requires DHCP enabling. Unfortunately i have a static connection and i couldnt do it so i use a wi-fi dongle.

Can I use desktop's internet connection on my phone?

Today I read an article about "How To Use Laptop’s Internet on Android Phone via Wifi". Hotspot app is needed to do this. My question is: does it need to root the phone? I have a desktop (Win7), not laptop. If I use portable WiFi device/ adapter, will it work to do this?
If the tutorial is available here, please share me.....
Thank you in advance!
See, if you are using desktop.. You need wifi adapter..
But, I recommend you to get Wifi Router instead of adapter as you'll need to keep PC on in order to use internet on mobile and there is price difference of only Rs 400-500 in adapter and router..
Setting up router is easy while setting up internet connection on adapter is little bit tricky. You get some instruction manual with the adapter to help you out..
If you need any further help, reply here..
