[OTA Exchange Mail] APK from MyTouch ROM floating on the Sapphire forum - G1 Android Development

Obvious method here.. downloaded the zip, unzipped, it's under system/app
Pushed to my G1 - works perfectly (I installed as data app, not system app - so you can load it through adb, sdcard, download, etc)

wow, I'm sure A LOT of people will find this quite exciting if this is fully working!

INteresting...nice find!

Does it work?

yup that was my command, but when you do it like that you can just throw it on your sdcard and run astro or linda

This is essentially the same app that is included with Hero and Rogers ROMs. IMHO Touchdown Exchange is much more full featured and well integrated. Well worth the $20

It does work. I saved the .apk to the sd card, and used Linda to find it, installed it with installer, and bam....my work exchange email is working. It does not sync your contacts, or calendar, like the hero version, but it is a start. Mail comes thru flawlessly. It does support encryption for the mail box, ssl. Hope this helps.

Installs just fine on google based rom. Dunno if it works cause i dont have an exchange account...but the other guy said it works fine

Working Great in Cyanogen 3.6.5!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
It works SO good. Push support, signatures, MEETING scheduling!, freaking everything. Thanks for the APK, you're epic!

Oh, and one more thing
I installed it with AppManager from the SD card, doesn't get easier then that.

I can't get it to install on CM 3.6.5.
I tried the easy method of using a file manager and installing the apk from the SD card but I get "Work Mail cannot be installed on this phone."
I tried pushing it to data/apps and I get a boot loop.

AOSP apks?

Hey everyone. I have decided to get rid of some HTC apks and replace them with AOSP apks. (Music, Dialer, Browser, etc.) I am not 100% sure on which ones I will be replacing, but can someone provide a download for AOSP apks? That would be awesome because I know I can download a few ROMs here and then take out the AOSP apks, but my internet is REALLY slow, so that would take forever. Also, feel free to let me know on which ones I should take out and why. I would really like a second opinion on what all can be replaced and if replacing any would help. Let me know! Thanks to the one who uploads the apks!

Definitely replace HTC mms. AOSP mms is so much faster, especially if you're using the AOSP keyboard. The email gives you a combined inbox, which is kind of nice - but attachments might not download properly. Music is nice and fast, but you don't get the lockscreen controls. Contacts/dialer is kinda personal preference. Browser always shows the taskbar and addressbar, unlike the HTC browser; it also seems a bit faster from startup. However, doubletap zoom might not work. Oh, the AOSP browser wont work without the com.cyanogenmod.android.jar and com.cyanogenmod.android.xml files (those are found in roms, so you might be out of luck with the browser...)
these apks are from Darch's roms.
What's needed to get AOSP contacts.apk to work with my awesome DCv2.06 setup? I imagine some framework is not in place - something deep like that?
Attempted to install (thought it would fail or at least not work if it did install) and it said 'Not Installed' and an OK button.

You have to push it in to system/app ... installing from a file explorer should only work for the email apk.

thanks for the AOSP dialer i been looking for it for awhile now thanks

contacts--> push/without replacing anything...you have to keep the HTC dialer alongside the AOSP dialer

For the browser, remove the existing browser.apk, replace it with the AOSP browser.apk, THEN you must place these files in the corresponding paths in your rom:

Lol. Was just about to say I just pushed Contacts.apk to my phone (running Fresh 2.0d) and it works perfectly .
EDIT** Only thing I have found not working with Contacts.apk from AOSP is how they are listed. If you go into contacts, you can see them listed correctly (alphabetically) but the displayed alphabet is technically incorrect (if that makes any sense). For example, the names are in the correct order, but the "A" is listed under "W" even though it is up top as it should be.

Just added it. Use the Contacts.apk that someone attached above and you have to push it to your phone as a /system/app through ADB. Nothing to it. Works great, no modification needed.
Most importantly it allows you to select which groups from your contacts in google that you want to sync. An option that broke or was removed in all 2.1 based roms out right now.

Thanks for posting this.
I'm still having some trouble getting Contacts.apk on my Hero. I'm running DC 2.072.
I'm able to successfully push the Contacts.apk from this thread with the command adb push Contacts.apk /sytem/app while in recovery mode. When I rebooted, though, I couldn't find it on the phone. There's no "Contacts" app, and the only "Phone" app is the HTC one.
Any suggestions?? I have also previously tried installing the APK by copying it to the SD card and then using an app installer, but the install would either fail, or I would get an FC when launching the phone app.

install voice search on leaked froyo?

anyone been successful installing the new google voice search program from the market on their dinc with froyo installed?

I got it to install and can get most commands to work. however, emailing force closes on me.
It works perfect for me 7/27 leak
Dangit, running 2.15 radio, 8/1 Froyo, and the new voice search still FC's on me for mail, and now note to self.

I also can't get it too install on the 8/1 leak
Works fine on my DI running Skyraider 2.2.
I got this to install just fine on the 8/1 leak.
However, it does not seem to interact with the applications I have installed. For example: "Listen to Deftones", "Set an alarm for 8am", etc. Each time I use these commands, it tells me that the applications required are not found.
I certainly do have plenty of music apps, as well as vanilla clock, etc...
Any ideas? Anyone get this to work properly on sense?

try this one.. taken from a zip in the first post on the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735596
version 2.2.1 gmail.apk
You may need to push through ADB as it was taken from a flashable package.
Edit: I can confirm this works. Just installed it on my phone. Rebooted and got the "whats new" screen when first opening gmail. Also reply button is at the top along with all other changes.
To install, copy over to /system/app with root explorer or push through ADB with "adb push Gmail.apk /system/app"
Verified also working on other phones. Also, if you are on an odex'd rom, make sure you delete original .apk and .odex files.
works good on Fresh 3.1.0.1, thanks!
I am running BS 1.4 and I can't get it to work. I was an idiot and overwrote the original gmail.apk. Do yall have the original froyo gmail.apk.
Thanks ahead.
Never mind I got it to work and I love it.

Either way you have to mount /system/app as RW before it will let you modifiy it.

[APP] Updated Market.apk for Sense 2.1 ROMs (Auto-Update)

Hey guys. This isn't anything fancy, I found this in Nfinite's Stock ROM thread. It is the updated Market.apk that was pushed by Google to a lot of devices (except ours, unfortunately). It has the ability to auto-update Apps, and looks a lot more like the Froyo one. It also has fixed my issues with Apps not downloading or taking forever to download with the market.
Here it is! You will need to use Astro/EStrongs File Manager or install this through Android Commander.
If this doesn't work, remove the original Vending.apk from your System/App folder, rename the new Market apk to Vending.apk and push it into System/app. (Thanks Impaler)
Also, it'd be great if you stated what ROM you use and which of the above installation methods you used, just so people have an idea of what might work better. For instance;
I used this with NFinite's Latest Stock ROM, using EStrongs File Explorer to Install.
Download
This is great! Testing now. I'm sick of all these bugs with the market. I didn't think it was going to get any better until I upgraded to something new this March. Thanks!

Great to hear
i just figured i'd post this for people using the same rom as mine. I'm using blue echo which is a themed fresh rom. Unininstall market(vending.apk) and marketupdater.apk via titanium back up and reboot. Place app in tools directory of your sdk folder. Rename market apk to vending.apk.
Change directory to android sdk tools directory via adb. code is as follows:
adb remount
adb push vending.apk /system/app
That's all you need to do.
I can't thank you enough for this.
I was able to pull the Vending.apk and MarketUpdater.apk via adb, rebooted, then pushed the new Market27.apk file into the phone, renaming it Vending.apk and now it works.
My problems were three-fold:
A) If I let market update itself, I couldn't even open the new version. I'd get force close when trying to open.
B) If I uninstalled the update, I could still access the market and attempt to download, but it'd force close when it got to the install portion of the app
C) I could restore to a NAND Backup point when market worked, but within a day of doing so, it'd auto-update and I'd lose any progress I had made!
This has fixed everything. I've been trying for weeks to remedy this so thank you very much.
I'm rooted and running Fresh ROM 2.4 by the way.

hope you check this, I have an unrelated (sorta) question. I used your red swype for ages and loved it, but I found a bug in one of the numer modes in a loan calc app. I know it's not cool to post the apk (I have it anyway), but I do have the official beta 2.17 somthing, was wondering if you still had the red swype metamorph, also, I assume you theme the market in red, which would make my day, could you either pm me a how to (I have froyo), or post the themed market 2.2.7 in themes and apps, which hopefully works in froyo? Thanks again.

I can't try that on my machine right now, well at least not my laptop and wont have access to my desktop until Saturday. I did however try this originally on my Nexus 7 with 4.3 and it failed, so I am not sure it would even work on 4.4 especially since the mail app has apparently been updated.
I am also very interested in this...

Exchange2Google.apk - 1.12 MB
EmailGoogle.apk - 4.81 MB
Trying now, will respond with an update in 15min.
Update: Here is what I did, and please tell me if I did this wrong or need to replace my odex files. I changed the 2 apk files and their odex files to .bak after their names. Moved the 2 files you linked into system and changed permissions. Rebooted the device. Setup my email. Added my account and it asked for permission, hit activate and it did not make me set a passcode. Email is syncing now.
Only question is, should I make a copy of the 2 odex files and just put them back in there, or leave it without and .odex files? I have no idea what the .odex files actually do which is why I am asking.
I followed the steps in the other thread, made a flashable zip then flashed it. Working fine here :victory:

I tried this patch and it stops syncing after a while too. I could not get it to work after trying multiple times. I just switched to the 4.3 version and it's working perfectly.
I patched mine with the first method of copying the files over myself and 16 hours later it is still syncing my mail just fine. Setup as Exchange account with active sync.

Flashable zip worked fine for me.
I did try switching to the ART runtime and I then got constant FC's on the email app/exchange app. I reflashed and it still had the issue.
After switching back to Dalvik, all is working and it didn't need another flash. So stay on Dalvik.
