Hi,
Does anybody know when the updates for T-Mobile UK G1 are coming out?
I've read in this forum that the UK update is not the same as the USA RC29 update
I'm running on TC5-RC7 at the moment, I've still got the option to connect via USB in my preferences so i know that it's not been updated yet as the RC29 update removes this option.
Had the phone for 5 days now and still no sign of any updates.
If i run the RC29 via Micro SD will it mess up my G1 droid?
Thanks
DB

It most likely won't let you update. The update was meant for specific models and I assume it was made so you can't update different versions from other countries.
Hi!
These Links are for the Vodafone Magic (PVT32B) to the OTA Donut Update:
From CRC1 to DRC92
From CRC24 to DRC92
Is this the official code for UK Vodafone HTC Magic handsets? The filename implies that it is - but just want to be sure.

How would one update using this image? As far as i understand we can't just apply it the same way we do other rom images as it is quite small in size (so most probably not a full rom).
Just figured out how to update.
1. Copy file to sd card, rename to update.zip
2. turn phone off, then hold the home button and press the power button, wait till u get the excalmation mark triangle
3. press home plus power button simultaneously.
4 choose apply update.
5 restart after update is complete

same. i'm using amon_ras recovery v1.2.3g. still on 1.5 firmware, do i need to unroot my phone?
it's for the vodafone device, not for the mytouch.
but yes, you have to unroot your device to apply an ota update.
do you know if there is on for the mytouch

Never mind, I have done the update and it worked like a charm in my Spanish Magic. I think it works for all the Vodafone Magics in Europe.
Happy updating everyone!!!
Thank you ultraMX!!!!!

Hi there,
Where did you buy your HTC Magic, and in which country do you have your mobile contract with?
Regards from Spain
OTA update=loss of root?
Just wondering if I run this update will I loose root as it's the official firmware from Voda UK? I have a Voda UK Magic and have installed the DWANG 1.9 Donut image but wanted to see what the Voda build is like as the Voda Cupcake build as supplied was quite fast.
Cheers
Dave
Question regarding manual updates, if you manually update will this stop OTA updates being received?
Reason I ask is that it was rumored that when the G1's where manually updated they would no longer get the OTA updates...
This will avoid warranty or something similar?
Is it a safe way to update our phone without wait for the arrive of the OTA?
Sorry for my English
I get a "No signature, verification failed" error.
I bought my phone from the UK (it's a 23B) but I'm a Vodafone Iceland customer.
Dagur, check the Build number in Settings, About Phone - this needs to be CRC1 for this particular update file to work. My phone is CRC24 - anyone know when an update file might be available for the build I'm on?
Working fine on a Vodafone Magic 32B in The Netherlands! Thanks.
For us Magic users who have rooted our HTC Magics and flashed a new rom on it, would it be mandatory for us to update to their rom?

I was wondering that too. They are saying their are disabling 3G Data on our phones till the upgrade is performed.
I'm afraid it has a perfected SPL.
no need for rooted users to upgrade... i believe the upgrade is just to fix the gps 911 issue. us rooted users dont experience that
Edit: Custom rom users
it's the sense ui upgrade as well.. and apparently one month of free data fees
Hmm according to the screenshot on the HTC website is shows Build number 3.05.631.7 which looks to be newest one I can find.
we need someone to verify what SPL is included with this update. I won't be updating my phone. I don't want to loose root
Yeah that's all fine and nice that we aren't affected with custom ROMs but did you guys not read the fine print?
Customers who have not downloaded this software update could have problems accessing 911. As a result, we are taking the precautionary measure of temporarily disabling internet access for Dream and Magic users on Sunday January 24 at 6:00AM (EST). Voice and text messaging will not be impacted. By disabling internet access, we can ensure that 911 calls are completed for all our Dream and Magic customers. Once a customer completes the software update, his/her internet access will be re-enabled within 24 hours.

hmm very strange so basically they are forcing everyone to update ...interesting...
I guess we'll have to see HOW they can know that we haven't updated.
Here's a link to the "about" for this version btw: http://www.htc.com/us/img/ca/HTC Magic (Rogers)/image001.png
does anyone know if rogers is able to check your build?
becuase in the instruction manual below step 4.
"Refer to the image and note the build number version listed. if you have the same build number version there is no need to update this software."
I looked inside the update file's rom.zip files and it appears to have a 1.76.0010
SPL
Well it's about time we got the Sense UI update... but I don't like the idea of being forced to update and getting perfected spl. I'll hold off on it until I get my internet disconnected.
The RUU has radio version 6.35.10.18, build 3.05.631.7... hmm
can anyone host the RUU I can sent it.
^Uploading now.
edit: beaten to it.
hboot_7200A_1.76.0010_100114.nb0
Radio_Signed_Sapphire_63.18.55.06K_6.35.10.18.img
more info soonish
i uploaded to my work's temp data storage web server
Code:
URL no longer available
I can't add url's apparently so just copy and paste.
Just got an SMS tell me to update... I don't want a perfect SPL.

I'm willing to bet that's a perfected SPL...
Hopefully i won't get one as I already have a 1.6 rom loaded.
Rogers must have a way to verify connected phones rom versions.

I just phoned in and asked about the update. The fella didn't seem TOO savvy about it at all - he didn't know what a custom rom was.
He did, however, say that rogers is able to check what version you have through your "IP when you connect", and he wasn't 100% sure about what would happen to custom roms.
Frankly I'd take it with a grain of salt.
Hi,
i got this update OTA but i didn't install it ... i use a Custom-Rom and CWM ...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8tssaejz0...1.54.401.2_release_257016cuxtfbx8dmv4o4ai.zip
Does anybody know whats better now?
Thank you.
#edit#
trying to contact HTC ... but they even don't know what they deliver ...
Just installed this update manually, and a newer kernel and bootloader was installed - that seems about it tbh, considering the tiny size of the update.
EDIT: Kernel is still 2.6.35.10, but has a more recent date (About Phone lists it as Wed April 11) compared to the previous kernel's date, so I'm guessing that there may be some battery life improvements due to this newer kernel
How have you downloaded the OTA File? Today I received a notification that the version 1.57.707.3 is available.
I'm using ZaSa_4chacha_GB1.57_2.0 (Asia 1.57.707.2) and haven't installed the update yet, because I believe that it won't work.
Do these OTA updates remove root, my phone has been bugging me for a while.
does it remove the dialer bug ?

Update broke Wifi
Got the update OTA today on my daughter's ChaCha. After installing it wifi is broke. Trying to enable Wifi results in 'Error'. No idea why, no idea how to fix it either... Trying to return to previous version but that's refused by RUU... Now what! :-(
OTA update file
OTA update file: [pm me for mediafire link due to stupid spam rule]
I have problems updating my unlocked ChaCha (error: signature verification failed).
Notice that the hboot version in this update is 1.13.
Perhaps someone can look into this. :fingers-crossed:

Is your device rooted?. If so that is why you can't get the update.

No, not rooted. But cant update without reason
Make sure you have a good wi fi connection when you do attempt to download the update. I know that the US HTC website has the latest version for download for the USA unlock phones. Good luck.
