Right to left support in wm - General Questions and Answers

There has been much discussion on this site regarding typing Right to Left languages like Hebrew and Arabic. After many hours of research I have not found any solutions with a softkey to change the direction of the text flow similar to the icon on a destop. From all that I saw it seems that even when the letters are aligned correctly from RTL still the cursor would be on the wrong side (in front of the last letter that was typed), and this makes it dificult when deleting what one wrote or when adding something in the middle of the text, since the cursor does not show where the letter will realy go.
I have Eyron Hebrew support installed on my ipaq running ppc 2003se, and here is an image of a softkey for changing the direction of the text flow.
I would greatly appreciate if anyone can tell me how to create such a key to work with other keyboards, on a Vogue or another smartphone running wm 6.5 or 6.1. Eyron's program does not work with 6.5 and besides their keyboard has tiny keys so that's realy not an option.
Thanks!

Larger Keyboard

Basically, I am looking for a QWERTY soft keyboard with larger keys than the built in one in Portrait mode.
I apologise if there really is a well known solution to my aggravation. It must have trekked over the horizon, cos I spent atleast 6 hours last night trying to find it.
So, I find the most convenient way to type is with thumb or fingers, and I can do this on the built-in keyboard, with a moderate accuracy. It's still more convenient than getting out the stylus.
I have demod perhaps 15 different SIP Keyboards now and NONE of them have a larger keyboard in Portrait mode than the built-in keyboard.... WHY? They either have large keys and a stupid gimmick or small keys and a standard QWERTY. Could the calligrapher keyboard be any smaller?
Here is my ideal SIP Keyboard: a qwerty keyboard with just the letters (and . , ?) on screen, but taking upto half of the screen. The numbers can be hidden under a shift or alt key.
Does this exist? All the large key keyboards I have found take up the whole screen, which I find very irritating in itself.
We've all the seen the iphone and its keyboard right? Is there not a single program with good size keys for ppc? I found one that is ABCD etc. not qwerty and the guy wanted to charge over 100 dollars on handango.
Please Please Please. Help me and suggest a solution. Thank you.
PS. I have found ideal software for the Palm OS, is there a version for PPC? Look here:

I just found a good one for all those interested.
Its called Happy Tapping Keyboard. It resides on some obscure korean site i think. Do a google search and use the translate option. It works enough to understand.
So far it is hands down the best keyboard available. Its larger than the built in one and even larger in landscape, but most importantly it only takes up a little bit of the screen, so you can still see stuff.
I highly recommend. And it is free and skinnable. You can also add a WAV sound to the tap, an audio aide so you know when you have hit it. That is if you dont want to enable all screen tap sounds in WM5.
some details
Thanks for this HTK program,
this is the link for download :
http://d.hatena.ne.jp/KOTETU/00000103
once it is downloaded, you need to move the cab file directly to your device (don't run it from your computer).
and this is the one for some skins :
http://blogs.shintak.info/articles/979.aspx
put them in the picture folder or a folder that you will easily find on your device.
choose the right VGA/QVGA mode
to change the skin :
go to setting then choose the keyboard icon and find the skin you put in your folder.
et voila !
rq : would be nice if the button could be bigger !
and it is obsure japanese not korean,
cheers
I can't seem to find "\" char... anyone enlighten me pls
Why do you want to translate a Korean site when you can just get it next door.. yes, next door here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296455&highlight=

What if someone skinned the old phone pad to look like the new HTC keypad

There have been lots of posts by people looking to properly disable XT9 that is integrated in the HTC soft keypad and keyboard to make the "regular" word completion work when using the hardware keyboard.
For quick SMS messages, I still prefer a phonepad with XT9. I like the large layout of the HTC keypad, but XT9 drives me nuts. After trying about every SIP I could find, I think the smootest for T9 phonepad input is the HTC Phone Pad (also called Intellipad) that apparently used to be included on HTC roms. It's quick and T9 only rears its face when you're using it.
There are a number of skins out there for it, including a touch-style one that looks close to the new HTC Keypad (sorry for not looking up the creator) but the 0-9 keys are always smaller (due to the extra keys on the sides I guess).
I think it would be great if someone with some knowledge of creating SIPs and skinning them could create a new skin for this Phone Pad that is laid out just like the new HTC Keypad. I imagine this would take a little more modification than just a new skin due to the size of the buttons and the layout. For example, I don't see the need for the arrow buttons on the corners of the Phone Pad, but you can't scroll through the word suggestions with the hardware "D-pad" 'as is'.
I wish I could get this started myself, but unfortunately I have no knowledge of how to make/edit a SIP. I know there's plenty of people out there that can however, so hopefully someone might be interested in making a more usable version of the new HTC Keypad and interested in taking this on.

WM6 5.2.1623 Black bar above keyboard

Situation is:
Phone One: HTC Touch running Danish O/S Windows Mobile 6 Professional CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3)
Phone Two: HTC Cruise running English O/S Windows Mobile 6 Professional CE OS 5.2.1623 (build 18129.0.4.5)
Word completion on #1 appears as a list of words above the keyboard (much nicer - not least because it works!)
Word completion on #2 appears as a black bar above the keyboard.
On #1 word completion works and it stores and suggests my words (except words containing any of the Danish letters, but that's ok).
On #2 I have tried to un-check all options concerning auto completion but I have not managed to get rid of the black bar - it appears no matter the settings. Actually, I'm not even sure this black bar is a word completion tool. I don't know what it is cause it does not seem to serve any useful purpose (apart from taking up space on the screen). It never suggests any words, but only copies whatever I'm writing, sometimes in two versions: one with a small starting letter and one with a capital starting letter. If I tap the x I get a label "Add My Word". If I enter something I don't see that it's added anywhere, cause it never suggests this word if I start typing it again. I have conducted all these little tests with both English and Danish words (without the special characters, though) cause I have no idea in which language the dictionary is.
But... I could live without any word-completion. Thing is, the black bar has another and worse problem that I can't live with: It does not recognize one of the Danish characters "å". The other two "æø" work fine.
When entering a word with the unrecognized letter - like "håb" (Hope) - the Danish character is not appearing in the black bar and the resulting word in the application in which I'm writing is "åHb". The Danish character is always placed at the beginning of the word it is a part of.
That was the background info. Questions are:
Does anyone know to turn off this annoying black bar?
and
Does anyone recognize the letter-switching-"feature" and know of a solution?
Late breaking news
Ok, so I'm talking to myself ... but who knows - if someone else experience something like or is equally confused about input settings, perhaps this might help them, too.
I have tried to find out more about the "black bar" and come to realize these "late breaking news":
Options/Settings relating to the Keyboard (Keyboard/Word Completion tab) has no effect on anything.
The black bar is related to the Touch Keyboard and appears even if the Touch keyboard is not the selected input method and even if word completion (and all other "typing assistance" functions) is turned off for the Touch Keyboard.
Turning on Word Completion in Options/XT9 Settings for the Touch Keyboard also affects typing with the Keyboard.
Thus, turning on Word Completion for the Touch Keyboard and using the Keyboard as input method, word completion actually works and it is possible to add words - even words containing the two (out of three) Danish characters that work.
So, word completion as such works (allthough it seems that the settings and effects of these settings are kind of mixed up and criss-crossing between the various input methods) but the one Danish character still does not work - it is still placed at the beginning of the word it is in, as described in the first post.
To remove the annoying BLACK BAR...
To Get rid of word prediction window Edit Following Registry:
[HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\layouts\e0010409]
Change Default Ime File : \windows\xt9ime.dll --> \windows\compime.dll
and
Layout Text : eT9 IME change to Layout Text : XT9 IME --> COMP IME
speedtest test
oops wrong post.
worked perfectly, i might have lost my mind with that bar, it's so pointless.

S730 Keyboard Layout onto S710

Does anyone know how to change the keyboard layout on the Vox/S710 to match the S730.
E.g. Shift the top row of letters (QWERTYUIOP.) to (.QWERTYUIOP) so that typing is more natural?
Hope that makes sense! Any help greatly appreciated.
Hmm... My Vox comes with .QWERTY layout. Anyway, I think you should change the locale in system registry. Try this key (make sure you've created a registry backup first):
HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD
Set the value "CurLang" to 0x409 (1049) and reboot the phone. That will probably shift your layout.
wont this just complicate things as ur keys will be messed up. so the letters will be:
.qwertyuiop
but the buttons on the actual keyboard will say:
qwertyuiop.
way more trouble than its worth
Maybe... but I keep making mistakes when typing, as I'm assuming that the keyboard layout is as per a normal keyboard (or Hermes, which is what I used before).
The fix works nicely - for the top row.
But...
Now the number keys are not 'aligned', as per the layout on the keyboard. Is there a way to move these - bearing in mind that the numbers are used using the 'fn' lock?
You might want to try creating your custom layout. With AEKMap you can do most anything with hardware keys. Here it is.
It would take a lot of time to create a layout from scratch, so I suggest using my (Roan) or other people's layouts as templates.
Hope this helps.
Sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth. Depends on how much your personal (or work?) time is valued at I guess..
Just deal with it and get used to the keys. I'd expect it to be different to your Hermes, it's a different phone!

[SOLVED] HTC Vox wm 6.5 Norwegian Keyboard layout

I have updated to 6.5, but my keyboard layout is wwe and i need Norwegian keyboard layout, if anybody could point me in the right direction, i would appreciate it. this relates to the slide out keyboard
ok, found various Norwegian keyboard files almost all were custom made and not fully mapped correctly.
But the good news is I found one that seems to map everything correctly on the slide out keyboard, its a small cab file just copy to your vox and then run on vox, job done.
I hope this is helpful to others as well.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/f70fqshsc9v0vvr/Norwegian.cab
Please note, this is only for the slide out keyboard, it does not effect your Windows Mobile display language, so will work on any language version installed
Issue solved...thread closed.
