Include link for App Garmin mobile XT - Touch Pro, Fuze General

First, im a complete noob. i just stumbled upon this site today and already done to my phone in 3 hours than i even ever done to a phone period and i want to thank you guys.
Secondly, here is my issue. i have the GPS garmin Mobile 5.0 software for my ATT Fuze. the files for the GPS software are all on my storage card as a " all package up file " without need to install or run a cab file. so the only way i currently lauch the GPS tool in by browsing to my SD card to my garmin folder and then launching the garmin.exe. that is too tedious. i want to be able to go to my programs and see my garmin there, but even better, i want to be able to remap my PPT button to launch my GPS but i cant remapp the GPS since its not a part of my installed APPs. so my question is how do i get my GPS to appears an installed app so i can remapp it to a button on the phone?

you can use resco explorer and select the .exe file and then menu->file->send to->Start menu as Shortcut

thank you so much man. is there another app i can use thats free? the resco app is not, i did use it but its a trial software. i wanted something to keep thats free. any ideas anyone? also, i have decided to keep the Official ATT Raphael US_5.11.502.2 Rom. but I LOVE the clock in the EnergyRom 2/3. Is ther anyway i can get it and add it into my ATT official rom?

use file explorer that comes with wm. find the program tap and hold to get the context menu and hit copy, then go to windows > start menu and hit the right soft key to get a menu and go to edit > paste shortcut. rename it to garmin mobile xt if its not already named right.

Thanks Jack. But im afraid I lost you where you say " then go to windows > start menu and hit the right soft key to get a menu and go to edit > paste shortcut." what right soft key are u refering to?

the one that says menu in the bottom right corner of your screen.

Or...
While still in explorer (after copying the exe for Garmin), navigate to the Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder. Scroll to the bottom, tap and hold. The context menu that pops up will include "Paset Shortcut". Select that.
You will have an item that says "Shortcut to " and whatever the executable file's name is. You can then tap and hold on the shortcut and select "Rename" and rename it to "Garmin" or somesuch.

thats what i said... just figured it would be a little simpler to hit the softkey than find a spot they would have to find for the context menu.

SPB Clone....a warning.

I have been trying out some backup tools to see which one is best.
One of the ones I tried was SPB Clone which at first glance looks excellent.
It can make a self extracting image of your PPC on an SD card in about 3 minutes. Very cool.
However.....WARNING !!!!!
I decided to try it to see if it really did backup and restore everyting.
The answer is, pretty much, yes. However, I didn't buy a copy because it costs...wait for it....$300....no....there is no decimal point missing !
I used the demo version...I mean...that's what a demo version is for, right ?
Now, my pocketpc keeps popping up with a message box that says, "This device was restored with a demo version of SPB Clone. Please buy a full version to get rid of this annoying message" (or words to that effect).
How annoying is that ?!!
I'm not sure this can be done, but why don't you probe the registry searching for that annoying message and luckily, if there, remove it. Or maybe try uninstalling Spb Clone will help.
It sounds far less painful than $300.
How to remove the nag screen in your case:
1. Open folder \Windows\StartUp in File Explorer.
2. Tap and Hold and select View All files.
3. Select bootupd.exe and select Cut from context menu.
4. Change to the root folder "\" and tap-n-hold on the empty space within folder view. Select "Paste" from context menu.
5. Soft reset.
6. Remove bootupd.exe from the root folder.
easy huh?

AppCloser v0.1 released - helps free up memory on your device

A free simple utility for automatically closing applications when you return to the home screen. More details here: AppCloser v0.1
tried it, it doesn't work for me for some reason.
i put it in the program files folder, made a new folder called AppCloser and then dragged the program there and put it, hit home - then opened an application and then hit home. then for testing purposes, i checked the task manager, the program was still running.
is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Is your phone completely application unlocked?
To install it (just to recap):
create the folder \program files\appcloser and copy the .exe and the apps.txt into it (like you did )
check out apps.txt, add or remove exes as required
start appcloser.exe, and press home to return to the home screen (not ok, as this closes the program)
appcloser should now be running and will close the programs in the list that are running when you return to the home screen.
It could be that there are bugs but I dunno.
i've just tested this on my Excalibur and it worked great for exe files that are in the \Windows folder.
i tried adding appcloser.exe to the list so that after closing the other programs it would close itself...it didn't. i also added Explorer.exe which resides in my Storage card and it wasn't able to close it
Suggestions:
a separate white/blacklist would be great
add a kill all option except the whitelist
Thanks for this application.
uccellino thanks again
What I've actually done was I made the app folder as per the readme, then I've placed a shortcut into \windows\startup, which is actually pretty useful, it still asks you to press the 'ok' or 'home' key at start up, but at least this way you don't have to browse to the app's folder everytime you want to run it.
Thanks for your feedback dark0 and oldsap I'll try and see if I can make it a bit more professional when I next play with it
I thought it would be good if I press red (disconnect) button then the program or folder is closed but if I press home button then the program is minimized to run on background.
I could choose to automatically close it or let it run. Normally both buttons let programs run in background while returning to home screen which is kind of confusing to understand why it operates like that.

Error message with shortcuts re: .lnks files

I am looking for some help with "shortcuts" or ".lnk" files
I am using a HTC Tilt 8925 with WM6, but I think this may be a more universal issue.
I went into Windows > StartMenu and added several new folders, and then moved the .lnks formed from program installations into those folders.
For instance, folder "Refererence" now hold Dictionary, Lexipedia, Thesaurus, etc.
All was OK for a while, but then I started to get error messages about 2 application .lnks that I had moved into a subfolder. The funny thing is, the links actually work! It's just that randomly, I get a WM6 message that there is a problem with " Programs > XXX > AAA "
Does anyone know how to make a "new" link, to replace these old links? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program and then moving those 2 .lnks, again, to the subfolder where I want it to be, but it happened again!
Thanks for any and all ideas!
PS: I have SK Tools installed; I thought there was a shortcut tool, but I cannot find it
Go into Program Files then whatever application you want the shorcut for. Copy the exe file then navigate to wherever you want the shortcut and paste shortcut. Rename the shorcut to whatever you want and the link is done!
Having said that if your shortcuts work sometimes but not others I cant see how it is a problem with the actual shortcut. You may need help here from someone more experienced than me.

Help with adding icon/link to files

OKay I know windows but mobile Windows got me....
Have files and program on a memory card, and I want to create a shortcut/link to that file ...how in the hell do I do that.
I want to be able to start my program from say the start menu and going to programs and seeing my icon there...
Is there a tool or registery hack for mobile 6 that might do this?

Creating a program shortcut in Win Mo 6.5?

I updated my ROM the other day and I re-installed all my software afterwards, but one program (tomtom) didnt get placed in the start menu or in "All Programs" on the Manilla programs tab.
If I manually browse to the exe in the program files folder (on my storage card) it launches and works fine.
How can I create a shortcut in Windows Mobile 6.5 so that it shows up in my Start Menu or in the All Programs area?
I tried exploring the device while hooked up via activesync, and creating a shortcut hat way, but with windows mobile 6.5 it seems that doesnt work, the option to create a shortcut doesn't even come up in the context menu anymore. Same goes for if I browse to the file via the file explorer or total commander on the device.
Use Total Commander or Resco Explorer and create the shortcut in \Windows\Start Menu or \Windows\Start Menu\Programs(\Your Folder)

There are two ways I use to make a shortcut in Windows Mobile. The first is to find the original EXE, tap and hold on it, and select "copy". Then, go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\, tap and hold, then "paste as shortcut".
The other, easier way is to install this valuable piece of software, restart file explorer, browse to the EXE, then tap and hold, then finally choose "Send Shortcut to Programs".
Thank you both for the info.
I was able to do it using total commander, which did have a "Create shortcut" option in the ">>>>" option of the menu. I used that and created the shortcut in the programs folder and then it showed up in the start menu and in the touchflo all programs menu.
Allthough this thread is already a few days old i still ought to thank you.
I had exactly the same issue - no TomTom anymore and i couldn't figure it out by myself so got really frustrated. No registry-manipulating worked (didn't understand how to do it right) and no manual shortcut-file creation either...
So i am really happy that you, DaveTheTytnIIGuy pointed out that FileExplorer Extension. Fantastic thing.
And Total Commander is too, actually. But i liked the extension better. Thanks anyways!
Your help is much appreciated.
Do it in File Explorer... that's work. In Total Commander doesn't...
shortcuts to cab files
need to use TC to make shortcuts--the FM ext only supports exe shortcuts.
Mine worked fine on a cooked WM6.5 on my Fuze for the remove/restorehiddenproxy cabs
Worked perfect
Worked perfect, saved me alot of greif thanks

im so glad i found this thread. was pullin out my hair trying to figure out where to place the .lnk for garmin to make it show in the programs section.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Same for me! I felt like i had tried everything, and here the solution was staring me in the face (well...inside of a >>>>> folder).
Thanks!

Just to say thank u all guys, good info
Thank you!
Got my Navigator back on the start menu!
