wow! kinda blueish but very nice one
yea thats on the sony i think.. idk looks kinda windows mobile haha
rosie / sense is better IMO, but its still quite good...just a little impractical looking in some places.
looks good. more interested in what it got under the hood though
Its slightly impractical and it won't even work on our phones.
This is from the Sony Ericsson Rachael which has a 1Ghz snapdragon processor. If you think Rosie runs poorly, I can't even imagine how this would run.
1. Not "Donut"
2. Wrong forum
That is definitely from the Sony Ericcson Racheal. It is suppost to be based off of the Android 2.0/Donut but the UI is just an overlay or a sony exclusive UI just like the Rosie/Sense UI is for HTC. Also, good look running a ROM with it on the G1.
It's not "donut", it is sony ericsons ui. Kind of like how HTC has it's own ui.. I don't care for it..
Donut or not it is a UI that is layered over Android just like Sense is layered over Android. 1.5 or 2.0 who cares.
When i first got the G1 last October, the Rosie and this new SE UI is what i was hoping for...i couldn't wait for Touchflo-ish looks came to Android...Now that they are starting to, i have to decide if i want the awesome looking software with lots of features or keep the physical keyboard! Damn decisions!
I upgraded to the G1 from a TMobile Wing and i had a similar issue...the newest ROMs were to big to work nicely with the Wing's hardware...I feel i am in for the same disappointment with the G1 now! Damn you Google for allowing HTC to build a barebone spec device for the first Android device!!!!
Looks nice... now I just need a device with Snapdragon in it...
looks ok... but a little bland imo... I think rosie/sense looks nicer.
Wow! I think it looks hot!! I'm looking forward to the Sony snapdragon phone.
Eh ... looks kinda bland and too blue. Not that impressed. Hopefully they clean up some of the graphics.
looks pretty ugly to me,
I don't like the animated contact cards

ditto.....
As mentioned before, not donut. Threads here are worse than Fox News.
Man that UI looks awfully boring. From a designer's point of view...The floating selector for the contacts is ok, but there's way too much blue which makes everything feel muddy, and there's little style. But's there's still time for a lot of tweaks hopefully...otherwise meh.
Sense is better by far at this point.
i only like the floating contacts, and animations.. everything else looks dull.

I'm pretty optimistic that they'll get it right this time, considering 3.0 is few months old and they're already rushing 3.5
For me it looks like a "bad" skin
Well I kinda like it... It looks simpler, more minimalistic, and more elegant.
I'm quite surprised that HTC might change its iconic clock Widget, though. And I don't get exactly what the icons on the left might be : is this some kind of a side dock, or merely themed shortcuts?
------------------------------------
Will be ported > hopefully.
edit : no famous weather clock in 3.5?
im going to make a guess and say that Sense 3.5 is much lighter than 3.0 since it was htc who told us that because of old hardware 3.0 couldnt be ran on older devices, yet the Bliss is 800MHz ..
when i bought my sensation, i watch at plenty youtube-vids to get others thoughts about the phone. i was going to get the phone anyway, but still.
what the most of them says, ist that sense is consuming a bit too much, and only got like 100mb free ram. and after installing their apps, they said it starts getting slow.
think 3.5 is a "fix" to that, so it can compete with the speed of SGS2. (quadrant and other ****)
looks simpler, but still nice - so good job HTC if a 800Mhz can process it, then just imagine what a dualcore 1.2 Ghz can do
Strange, I'm sat here with a stock phone and about 330MB free RAM. Sense isn't using much at all.
Certainly not slow either.
Looks a bit weird...
If the 2nd picture is a screenshot of an alternate lock screen, I think that looks pretty nice. Could be a nice option to have.
Not sure I like the font, seems awfully hard to read
I kinda like it, but it is a little hard to read.

well it's in Taiwanese so yeah
As long as it looks very similar to 3.0 and is faster, I'll like it. For all I care they could keep the exact same looks and get rid of the pathetic lag inherent to Sense.
it looks fake to me...I may be wrong mind. I still won't use it, even more so if it does indeed look like that lol
It doesn't seem like much, and the notification bar still looks butt ugly. Are all the new HTC devices gonna have Sense? If so, that sucks.

I don't understand why anyone would purchase a 5-600 phone with sense and then spend the rest of time
reducing it to a bland interface, it's a dual core soa device, that flies...buy a nexus1 or hd2 or mytouch 3g if you want purity and stock......sheeesh
Isn't Sense 3.5 for lower end devices?
The new dock seems nice. Really all I need on the dock is application access and phone. I never liked the customization options on the dock...but that's just me. I bet they have an option for the old style though.

I dont understand why people post comments like this?
Hahah pretty sure people buy these $5-600 phones so they can do whatever they want with them, including but not limited to flashing/talking about/porting of Sense 3.5
Oh and BTW i dont see anyone talking about stock or aosp here?
Hahaha lmao I know, unbelievable
Obviously the Arc is better hardware-wise (minus RAMs) .. I'm not sure what to buy though. I freakin' hate Sony Ericsson's UI (Everything about it, launcher, menu, dock, icons, status bar, dialer etc) and there is no Cyanogenmod or any other Vanilla android rom for it. I'd have to settle for lousy launchers, so if I ignored the software I would have a bigger screen and a bigger camera
Desire S has every type of ROM (Cyanogen, Hydrogyn, Revolution, Vitrorous etc) and a beautiful original user interface.
So it's more of a software vs. hardware thingy, they're both Android but there is UI differences. What would you do if you were in my place?

Quite a lot of S.E users do, but a bit of modding here, bit of modding there and you can have a sweet looking U.I.
Hmm, is it possible to have the Vanilla Gingerbread interface (maybe a white status bar?)
It looks interesting though, I checked the Green Glow theme on your signature and it's fantastic .. Is it the only theme available or there are more?
I'd go for the desire s. Which is exactly what I did! Havn't looked back since. Great phone

HTC Desire S here.
I believe it's a more deep question than hardware vs. software. I think of htc as an premium smartphone brand, and the quality of its devices one step above the rest. It's a bit like having a GT-R and a Ferrari, both are fast as hell, both are good looking (i prefer the design of the Arc tbh), but the ferrari will be a head turner more than the gtr even if more expensive (this was said before i checked the specs)
They're the same price so i'd go with the Desire S, the Arc it's gorgeous but it's way to big to me. 3.8 it's the ideal size imo
EDIT: i just checked the specs of both again on gsmarena and that totally changed my opinion xD
Big community will keep the desire alive for ages.
Take the Desire S
I mainly like ics but it is too dark and not hapy like gingerbread. gbread is bright and happy looking if we could change that ics would be a whole lot better

Is Dark, but beautiful, it's simple, and follow a line. in GB, everything was coloful, but weird. I liked a lot more ICS than GB.
ics is nice but wouldent you like a little more color in it
Nope. Even my wallpapers black n' blue
What actually annoys me is how some of the stock icons/apps are brightly coloured (people, messages, etc).
I kind of agree I've played with ICS and like the feel of GB better, maybe it's because I am so used to GB and have not gotten used to ICS. But its darker and more mysterious I do kind of like that. But bright and happy wallpapers don't really fit the dark ominous blue theme of ICS
I just don't like the shade of blue they used, it seems overused.

Personally I think ICS looks terrible. Its ripped off from old 80's sci-movie computer panels. I mean, I love Tron, its brilliant, but doesnt work so well on a device when you have seen something like MiUI bring out the best in Android. Now that looks stylish and professional. Where ICS looks like its supposed to appeal to geeks and teens only. I am a certified geek, but I just cant get to liking the looks of ICS

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm glad i'm not the only one that feels this way. Sometimes with Android it's like you get a peek behind the curtain, and what you see is a Smartphone OS that's made by tweens, for tweens.
Yes, the Googlers are some of the most able people in the tech world, but sometimes it feels like they lack maturity. Certain aspects of their work needs more thought, more polish. Everything is 95% there and then left incomplete, as if in a fit of ADHD they moved on to the next project and forgot all about the previous one.
I think it's the usual paradigm. Coders do not make good Designers. What i'd like to see is a universal Theme Engine included in the OS itself. Much like the T-Mobile one included in CM7, but created by Google. Every device, whether Vanilla Android, or OEM Skinned, should come with a selection of Themes that work with that common engine. Sense/Touchwiz/Vanilla would all just be Themes for users to choose between.
Of course, Google half-arsed it again and didn't even consider Theme support when creating Android. Even Windows Mobile had Theme support going way back. It even had a Selection Pane for choosing between them. Why is technology going backwards in this regard?
Beauty of Android, don't like the look, change it

I actually LOVE the new look. Its simple, elegant, consistent and much more polished. IMO the whole Android experience/"feel" had been revamped to the better , lets hope OEMs dont mess this up with their skins.
Plus is uses less battery on the Amoled displays, because of all the black!
I like it a lot, but I must say that my phone looks the rather the same as before, and Samsung allready used a lot of black for their own TW skin (think because of the Amoled display)
It's worth noting that the Galaxy nexus is the only device that will see the Holo theme. All the others will be skinned in the normal manufacturer colour schemes.
And i never thought i'd see the day when i would say that's a good thing!

Although Android did publish a design website to help developers/designers follow the new Holo theme that ICS brought along. They are also encouriging OEMs to follow these guidlines when designing all those skins, so that Android would mantain a certain touch and feel throughout different devices!
Personally Id love to see that happen. Diversity is a great thing, but I do think certain UI elements need to look the same across all devices. But then again , Android is open source and OEMs can choose not to follow anything and come up with a whole new UI .
I love the new look, i like dark styles anyway, and i think it looks really smart and like some have already said, change it if you dont like it
i like ics because it gives a lot of a abstract feel and the dark tone feels like it save more battery. however a lot of ics theme is blue, i read somewhere that from RED-GREEN-BLUE, the colour tone BLUE uses more battery compare to the rest.

The holo theme is to be used inside of apps to create the consistent feel. It has nothing to with sense, touchwiz etc. When you press a menu button inside of an app, google wants a consistent response with no crazy surprises. When you open an app, it looks the same on all devices no matter what the manufacturer UI is....

Just because they want it, doesn't mean anybody will comply! If you were creating an app would you use your design ideas, or theirs?
i really need to learn how to code and make things for android lol
Gingerbread was dark and dull and boring, ICS is dark, but sexy and clean. Froyo was bright and happy but Froyo is almost obsolete now.
Android in the pre-ICS era was inconsistent and all over the place, design-wise. It was about time it looked like a "whole" OS and not something 100 different people quickly put together.

I don't like it. HTC must have been high out of their minds to take Sense this far. The animations are unnecessary.
I agree, Im not really liking it. The dockbar, IMO, looks like garbage. All those animations seems like it lags the UI as well
the animation is nice. but i don't like the launcher, sense's 3.xx launcher is better that.
I like the animations. The dock and the actual device are ugly. Sucks. HTC messed up on this one. For sure il be getting the amaze instead now. I rather have sense 3.0 on android 4.0.

i honestly do like thgis sense. i mean sure the launcher is a bit iffy but i like it and if it gets ported to our phone i wont mind using it as a DD
O__o what happened????
Software: it doesn't even look like Sense anymore...
i agree, the animations, while nice, look like they hog a bunch of memory, and aren't necessary... if it lags on a device like that, imagine how it would run on our Glacier..LOL
Hardware: reminds me of the Galaxy Nexus, specially from the side lol
it doesn't look as pro and nice as the Sensation... i mean.. wow.. single LED light? the Sensation has two...
much rather get the Sensation instead.
quite disappointed... hope HTC changes it before the official release.
Eww ugly
I'm a Rom Flip Flopper
I was concerned that Sense 4.0 would look too much like previous versions and not allow enough of ICS' great UI to show through. The leaked video was a pleasant surprise!
I like the new status bar, clock/weather widget, and dockbar. All three are a nice change from previous versions which were pretty close to identical going from the Cupcake version of Sense that came out on the Hero all the way up to Sense 3.5 on the Runnymede and Rezound. Finally something different!
Like most people I did not at all like the needless animation in the Settings window, but I'd still be interested in running 4.0 on the MT4G or any future device.
Not a big fan of Sense in general, but it does seem HTC has gone overboard with this one. The phone itself looks pretty sleek though, wonder how cool it would be running AOSP ICS.
I haven't seen the video yet, I'm throttled, but judging by the comments. It's possible that it's just a beta or something, I'm just guessing.
If I helped, give thanks, if you please.

I think it looks pretty good. I definitely like the new launcher. I hated the rosie dock.
I thought it looked pretty cool. Cant wait to see a finished product
I could care less about the lag; it's the UI itself that annoys me. This has resource hog written all over it. And, Sense got uglier. All this resource rape is unnecessary; people have made exact replicas of Sense using images and other widgets, and it uses a ****lot less resources than Sense's framework (not to mention, the framework is modded to hell). HTC is just getting unnecessary now.
I think HTC should of just watered it down, a lot. Keeps beats and add universal support. Animations are nice so keep those, and have HTC Widgets, and apps and that's it. Stock ICS with minor tweaks.

I'm gonna have to disagree with that. Sense has so many little touches are throughout the UI...far too many to list. There's no way to replicate the Sense experience with themes and widgets.
It's sort of like generic cola...it tastes ok and a little like real Coke, but there's no way to duplicate genuine ice-cold Coca-Cola Classic (or Pepsi ).

you're absolutely right.
people may have made "replicas" of it, but nothing beats the real thing.
just like how those people in China make those fake Android phones/iPhones and sell them
Looks great, but I'll always trade the looks of sense for the responsiveness and better battery life I get from an AOSP or CM build.
After looking at this, if sense REALLY turns out to be that way, I'm hoping some smart guy will make a rom for it without all the needless animations and resource hogging things.
I was really dissapointed that Touchwiz phones were more popular than Sense phones for 2011. I thought HTC would learn from that, but it seems they've gotten worse. I've been kind of excited for a Sense 4.0 rom but now im just probably gonna use my core droid 3.5 rom til my contract is up. If a nexus phone doesnt come to T-mobile... I will be forced to buy the only thing i see good enough....... a galaxy S 3 phone.
btw: I just saw this video today so im late XD.

Just thought I'd share that. Who else thinks it would look gorgeous ported to our One X's?
I'm sure the all mighty devs will have something when it's released with source (if that happens.)
Looks very iPhone to me.
Of course, variety in ROMs and different UI experiences are always welcome, IMO (if somebody is willing to port).
I'd actually say more WP7 than iOS.
The tile system and lay out of widgets.

Yeah, I was more thinking the app icons (simpler, bigger icon than typical on Android). Look very much like ripoffs of the iOS look. But there is def some WP7 inspiration in there too, for sure.

Do you mean dated or immature/gimmicky?
Personally, I think it looks good visually, but from a usability standpoint I don't see how it's better than anything else out there. Plus, all the animations and gimmicky stuff is just a bit too overwhelming.
I'm a fan of open screens. This looks nice, but way to cluttered.
The icons are terrible. Why do most UIs have the fake glass and chrome and such?
If anything WP7 has been so refreshing because it doesn't clutter the screen up with tons of fluff. Stock ICS Holo theme is pretty decent with the blue highlighting and mainly black themes. Then again many Android apps ignore guidelines...
