A hot to for anyone who makes the same mistake as me. You can't (or I couldn't) flash from Windows 7. I tried all day following the guide on here incase I was doing something wrong, however soon as I tried with XP, it worked first shot.
Now that I understand this system I will do a tiny bit of work to see if I can get it to work under 7, unless somebody already know the trick?

yeah, it comes with the latest version of WMDC / active sync. USB drivers were installed from Windows update so it would sync with the device.
The difference I noticed is when the XP would send the Treo to the bootloader (red, blue, green, white), the Host computer would recognise a 'HTC usb Hub' or something of the like.
Ya. I did it to my Treo 750 through Windows 7. Just follow the isnstructions here. It also doesn't work on vista unless you follow these steps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=511763
On Step 2 it says this is only for Vista users, but follow those steps too.
So, A few months ago I downloaded and installed the developers preview of windows 8. I liked it a lot and backed up my windows 7 hd, wiped and fully installed windows 8.
Well, I bought the HTC One S yesterday. Amazing phone.
My problem, I can't root my phone because while installing the htc drivers it comes up with "~ doesn't recognize this OS" or something like that. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom
Maybe you should revert back to windows 7 then if the drivers wont install, Its pretty much impossible to anything without drivers

I figured that was the easiest solution HOWEVER I really dont want to spend 3 hours of work (Backup windows 8, delete, repart, load and install windows 7, root phone, delete, repart, load and install windows 8) for something that takes less than half an hour to do.
If anyone has any nice work arounds i'd really, really appreciate it!
What about installing some kind of virtual machine and Win7 or even XP on it?
can't you find any kind of driver that will install on WIN8?

I would try installing the Windows XP mode (virtual machine) if Windows 8 lets you, as mentioned above.. or perhaps download TinyXP and install as dual boot. maybe even a live install to a bootable usb drive.. although I've never been able to get that method to work well.
Or! I'll sell you my HP TC1100 already set up for HTC & Samsung phone modding!
Lge cosmo driver installation
First of all: Lg cosmo drivers have to be installed in order to be able:
- to root the ICS roms
- to push recovery to the phone with wkpark and Dexter's solution .
For windows xp the best way to install these drivers is to download and install the "lg pc suite IV" software. This will install the bluetooth drivers too.
For windows 7 32 or 64 bit nothing to do normally since the win 7 will automatically install these drivers, however in case any problem lg pc suite is an option here too. *
I thought this will help people strugling with these since using the omap drivers as discribed in several forum topics did not work for me at all.
If something doesn't go well it is a false idea that you need to try another computer. Just install the proper drivers and everything will work.
I hope this helps someone

Hi Guys,
I've recently purchased a HTC One XL to replace my Inspire and would like to root the device. I've got a laptop and a desktop, both of which run Win7 x64, after installing HTC Sync, or just the HTC drivers Windows reports the phone as an Unknown Device in the device manager.
I've tried to manually specify the drivers to be used but Windows reports that it is using the best available drivers already.
I have tried searching the forum, and also Googling this, but I've had no luck in a resolution. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
