HTC Touch HD Illegal software killed mainboard? - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
In short: My HTC Touch HD's lcd screen is broken on the inside. Not the glass part you touch on the outside. I've sent it for repair but the warranty didn't cover it. However, he also said illegal software was found on my phone and it somehow messed with my hardware so my mainboard had to be replaced as well. My question is: Is this even possible?
I had olinex 1.56 installed and the official htc ROM. I don't see how software could damage my Hd's mainboard.
Thanks in advance

Did you replace the ROM?

I had duttythroy HD V3.6 XT Final, but flashed it back when my lcd broke down.

I don't think that any software could damage your hardware, unless it causes over-heating...

They just need an excuse to charge for the repairs. You fiddle with your device - you loose your warranty. Motherboard is probably the most expensive part, so they make you replace it to teach you a lesson. It's very unlikely it was damaged by any kind of software.

its Hard SPL. apparantly knackers your m/b and if HTC see this on the phone they void the warranty....

How to Figure out if touchscreen or LCD or both are broken?

Hello Friends,
yesterday when i saw the screen of my xda exec i saw a big black spot on the centre of the screen, not sure how it happened. i can still make calls from the phone.
but now i want to figure out whether i'll need to replace touchscreen or the LCD or both but i dont know how to figure out which one is broken.
Any help will be really appreciated on this.

Chances are
if the touch capability is intact, it's your LCD. The opposite, where the screen looks fine, but the touch is gone, would be your digitizer. However, unless you know how to replace a digitizer, I recommend getting both, LCD and a digitizer in one unit, rather than attempt to assemble the screen yourself. Which, judging by your question, is likely to be the case.

I would only iterate what enigma1nz had to say . It's at least your LCD at fault, but buy both as one unit. Or, buy a Uni that guarantees a working LCD+Touch pad (ie, a Uni with only a broken broken mobo/usb/doesn't boot etc) from eBay or the like.
First of all, I would just take the screen part of the Uni apart and check all is tight when replacing, as if the LCD has no obvious cracks, it's very likely a rubber-strip contact or similar.
NB. If anyone is interested in purchasing a fully-working Uni (brand new casing), with a non-functional touch/digitizer (guaranteed working everything else incl. LCD), I'm about to put on eBay. (PM me)

Keyboard Fix on the Tilt

i got a little water damage to the keyboard on my brand new tilt and now the keyboard wont work at all i have to use the touch screen for everything now is there any way to fix this problem of mine besides sending it in for a new one!?
please anyone have any info on how to fix this!?
Heh, just for your information, water and electronic devices don't mix. Send it back for repairs, as it's unlikely you'll be able to completely fix it.
You can always take out the battery and lay it to dry. Perhaps it'll help.
Of if it's out of warranty you can try buying a broken one and fix yourself (one with a smashed screen so the keyboard would probably still be good).

Instructions for replacing digitizer?

It didn't take long, but i've cracked my digitizer. My phone fell out of my pocket last night and digitizer cracked. I've purchased a new one online, but don't really know how to replace it when it arrives. Anybody know of a place where I can find directions/instructions on how to disassemble the thunderbolt?
Maybe you can get some help here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022519
The last dude to try this was an electrical engineer and even he destroyed his phone in the process. Read the link above.
From a Cell Phone Technician...
I recommend that you DO NOT try to replace the digitizer on your Thunderbolt as it is currently rated (by me) the most difficult phone to remove the digitizer from without breaking the lcd screen. Getting the phone apart isn't bad, but installing a new digitizer requires removing the LCD from it's chassis and that is no easy task. I can do it but it takes me well over an hour to do and I have very specialized tools that I have created myself to do so. Anyone without experience would never ever be able to do it on their own without breaking the lcd screen which is a part that isn't available yet so you'd be SOL if you did break it. Just my advice...

[Q] HTC HD2 digitizer replacement problem.

I'm new here and apologize for my english.
From the beginning then.I had my hd2 for about 2 months.I didn't like the sound loudness so taught i replace the loudspeaker. After putting it together digitizer didn't work.I noticed a very small crack in the digitizer so i taught that is the problem but wasn't sure and am still not cause i have seen digitizers with many cracks and still working.I ordered a new digitizer it wasn't the same that i had before cause this one has a T-Mobile logo on it but the connector is the same and it still doesn't work.
So, my questions are:
1)can it be that it's not digitizers problem?
2)Is there any difference what digitizer i use (with or without the T-mobile logo)?
I really don't want to waste anymore money on it (cause these digitizers are not cheap and i want to be sure) but i really want to fix it.Using Desire now but really miss my HD2 (except battery performance)
NB: I have looked around and found similar posts. But maybe someone has had same problem and can ensure this.

[Q] Anyone got a MT4GS (may be bricked) for sale?

Hi!
I was heartbroken when my MT4GS broke recently. I need a replacement screen assembly for it. I've been looking on ebay, but I only see phones with broken screens or individual service parts. I have a working motherboard but, I need the entire screen assembly replaced.
If anyone has a bricked (or fully working) MT4GS with an otherwise nice looking (and working) screen that's just lying around collecting dust that they would be willing to sell cheap, I would be very happy. I should mention I live in Europe. I'll cover any fees, obviously.
Alternatively, does anyone know of a worthy successor (GSM Android QWERTY slider)?
Thanks.
You should try ebay. there are all sorts of spare parts for this phone and you can get just the part you need without having to buy an entire phone. At least that way you will spend less and not end up with parts you do not need.
very true, this happens to be one of the more pain in the ass phones to fix but it still isnt all to bad. a new digitizer (and very likely will need a new lcd as near impossible to separate) will be in the range of 50$ if you need more than this other parts arent too expensive and not terrible to replace.
as a successor... there really isnt one, closet upgrade with a qwerty is the galaxy relay, others may disagree but between the vision and the doubleshot i am hard pressed to find a true high quality qwerty phone

I've never had any trouble getting my LCD out. Though my phone had been opened before, so the sticky wasn't as well stuck to the backside of the LCD. You can use a bit of hairdryer heat to loosen the adhesive.
Now digitizers... Those I seem to burn through.
Well, I suspected that the cable connecting the screen to the motherboard had become damaged, due to the touch function and screen dying when sliding the phone open. I did order a spare part on ebay but in trying to seperate it from the LCD, I ended up making it worse. I did use a hairdryer to warm up the adhesive, alas, it seems I wasn't careful enough. The end result is that I now have a "bottom" part (keyboard, motherboard, etc.) which is (presumably) still undamaged, but I need an entirely new screen assembly.
