Guys,
I use AT&T Tilt. Since 1/09/09, my device has seized to sync with my computer. The sync failure support code is: 0x8503001f. I am pretty good with computers and such, but I have not been able to find any solutions.
So far I have done the following:
1: uninstall/reinstall active sync 4.5
2: Soft reset on the phone.(I have not ben able to do hard reset. The instructions suggest to press two buttons simultaneously but fails to tell which ones. Additionally I have tried reset button at the bottom of the device but it only results in soft reset no matter how long you hold.)
Please instruct how to can I clear the cause for 0x8503001f and be able to synchronize my machine again.
Thank you advance,
additional info
3- I have deleted the onld activesync partnership but the when I reconnect the PPC, XP does not show a wizard instead tries to sync until failure message.
4- I have also tried to play with instructions on source: http://social.technet.microsoft.com...y/thread/ca9b53aa-7f89-4b08-82a1-88bb9330efc9
Thanks...
5- Deleted and recreated Outlook 2003 profile. No success.....
Please help...!!!!
6- Finally I was able to fix the issue on my machine. The problem was not with my laptop or with the Outlook. Instead, there was something wrong with the active sync on PPC. I backed-up the data and then did a hard reset (ATT Tilt: A hard reset is when you go into settings and click on clear storage). After doing that, I was able to sunc my machine.
Disclaimer:
I am not a developer and cannot explain why I got the error in the first place. Also, what exactly hardreset does to fix sync trouble other than reinitializing all registries. My logs here are only as a reference. Please feel free to use my tips at your own risk.

Lately, when I connect my Asus P525 to my PC or my laptop to Activesync, the following error message always come out:
"Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync Troubleshooter in Microsoft ActiveSync Help on your desktop computer."
I have tried to reconnect and soft reset my device and still the error comes out. I have also deleted all partnerships in both the PCs and my device and still same error.
Can anyone help my out on this?
i have the same problem with my tmobile mda. started with activesync 4.1 and even the new 4.5. only way i found to solve this is to completely unistall AS then go the AS directory and delete all the trash left behind in the install (do not delete any app folders in there).
reboot
reinstall AS
reboot
plug in device. yay!
stops working again....rinse and repeat.
yea. its a lame workaround but there you have it.
Thanks wergeld, I will try your suggestion ASAP!
I tried the above steps to no avail. Did it twice.
try doing a soft reset if you can of the asus then retry. all i know is that activesync is touchy. if you are using a usb connection make sure it is not going through a hub. just straight out the usb port on computer to usb in on the device.
this is something i have run across a lot. even on un-modded rom phones. right now mine is giving up the ghost while installing the "updated usb drivers" sucky. but its one of those things where you just bang on it till it works.
Ok, will try again. Thanks.
Tried to soft reset the device, uninstalled AS, deleted files in AS folder, reboot, installed AS, reboot, synch, same problem.
hrmm. i am sorry. i am at a loss for this one. i know AS is tricky but i have no other ideas on this. anyone else want to take a shot?
I would like to try to hard reset my device, but since I can't use AS, how can I restore my appointments and contacts after a hard reset?
assuming you had a relationship on your computer before you can re-sync it if you can get AS to work. do not try the hard reset yet.
did some more looking. and found this site: AS 4 FAQ
a helpful one was the fixmapi.exe step.
try all of these first then hard reset as a last resort.
the more i deal with AS the more i look at my SuSE machine with love.
"synchronization could not be completed. Try again later"; "Ondersteuningscode: 8007
OK This is a pain. i've got simmilar problems.
Over the weekend i upgraded to faria wm6 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297762) which forced my to go to active sync 4.5.
Here the fun starts .....
I have a desktop Medion and a laptop Dell D800. The Desktop is connected to my router via cable and the Laptop via wireless.
On both PC's internet works without problems. Before upgrading i could connect via usb to both machines and sync to my office exchange server.
Now, Activesync over usb connecting to either PC fails with the message:
"synchronization could not be completed. Try again later"
"Ondersteuningscode: 80072f7d"
If however i disable all "exchange synchronisation" items as agenda, tasks etc and limit to say favorites. Then AS completes sussesfully.
To add to the confusion. If i sync using WiFi or GPRS via my QTec directly i can sync just fine to exchange. Pushmail works.
I just cant get it to work via usb which i prefer since WiFi drains the battery and GPRS is expensive.
Solutions tried include:
* Uninstalling AS (both dutch and or Englich)
* Deleting all leftovers files from in the
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync" directory
* Cleaning the registry for leftovers
* Re-installing AS4.5 (both dutch and or Englich)
* removing and restoring sync partnerships
* Running the AS diagnostics (which report NO errors).
* emptying the exchange server files.
cleaning agenda, tasks, adresses, trash,
to have a empty exchange server
(of course i made a backup so i could restore afterwards)
I've googled but found nothing that helps.
I'm at a halt here, anybody any suggestions
You didn't mention what Operating System you're running on your computer and whether you're running any firewall software on your computer.
The newer versions of ActiveSync actually establish a network connection to sync. Quite a few of the Firewall programs have issues with this since it creates ports they don't know what to do with. You can avoid firewall problems by adding ActiveSync to the "allowed" programs list. Doing so will enable ActiveSync to create the ports it needs to sync, etc.
What you may be able to do in order to test whether it's your firewall is disable your firewall temporarily and then connect your device to the USB cable and see whether it syncs properly.
If you're running Windows XP SP2, the Windows Firewall is enabled by default and can be disabled by going to Start -> Control Panel -> Security Center and then clicking on the option to "Manage security settings for: Windows Firewall".
I hope this helps.
i am not familiar with exchange server or pushmail so i cannot help there. make sure you reboot each time you uninstall AS.
as for the firewall deal. i do not run one (oh nos!) on my pc that i connect to with AS since i am behind a heavy duty one on my router and i still have connection issues that force me to do the uninstall/reinstall dance. but i have never not been able to solve the issue with the dance.

THANKS this is getting ME somewhere i run NOD32 as antivirus on my desktop. If i turn of the IMON (internet monitoring) then sync goes fine.
Since active sync was already registred for maximum compatibility (which did not help) i added the address of my exchange server to the "maximal compatibility" list of servers. This does not help me either. Also disabling all "http protection" does not help.
Off to see what i can do without turning IMON totally off.

The site doesn't have the remedy for the error that I have.
I also disabled my Firewall, and still got the same error message.
Now, I would really like to do a hard reset, but don't know how to backup my contacts and appointments.
Got the same problem today. Last successful sync was on March 27th. I deleted all partnerships, repaired my Outlook-db, cleaned all ActiveSync-entries regarding partnerships in the registry of my Universal AND on my PC. I now disabled NOD32's IMON to see whether AS works again after a reboot.
Damn ActiveSync...
Cheers,
-mARKUS
UPDATE: Disabling IMON didn't bring me any further. ActiveSync get's the Universal's name, then comes the "Retrieving settings..." and suddenly it breaks with the stupid "Synchronization cannot be completed successfully..." message.

So as far as I've read I now have two options: hard-reset my device, reinstall everything and hope it works again -- OR -- uninstall Outlook + AS and reinstall and hope it works. Thank you, Microsoft!
good
Excellent work. Easy to understand.
hard rest...before doing anything..sync.......all will sync fine.
As long as device names are the same......you'll be good to go.
The problem is, I have added a lot of new contact and appointments in my device that is not yet synched with my PC. If I hard reset, all the new data will be gone.
So how can I restore back the new data after a hard reset?
Help! .
Ok, I know I gotta PM mods here but I thought I'd make another topic about it since there might be more ppl out there knowing how to fix my problem. Feel free to delete it, or tell me to remove the topic and I'll pm any of you one by one, as you desire.
My Windows Mobile went crazy. Its a known bug but I just can't seem to fix it.
Already made another topic about it, since it occurs to a lot of ppl using the HTC Touch Diamond, but it might be a common Windows error, and not just to ppl using the listed device.
The symptoms:
- Access is denied error message when trying to copy files to the phone using ActiveSync.
- Access is denied error message when trying to delete any files or copy files between folders and/or the storage card on the phone.
- You do not have permission to download that type of file in Internet Explorer when trying to download any files.
- No programs show up in Remove Programs.
- Installation Unsuccessful error messages when trying to install any applications.
- ActiveSync will fail with an error message that you should start the troubleshooter.
And the solution:
Code:
- Please follow the exact steps listed below.
- Soft Reset is done with the stylus, if you press it in the little round hole that is next to the USB port of HTC touch (the other oval hole at the other side of the USB port is the microphone. Do not stick your stylus in that hole)
- Power off is done when you keep the power button (on the top) pressed and you see a message from windows, asking if you want to power off your device.
The procedure to fix and recover from this amazing bug.
1) soft reset device
2) Start / Office Mobile / Word
3) Create a new document (click on New)
4) type some text (just plain text - no formatting - it was 'plain text document') just a few characters
5) File / Save As...
6) I have selected type 'Plain Text'
7) It asked me whether I want to save it at 'Word document instead' - I clicked No.
8) I have powered off the device and did soft reset
9) Start file explorer, find the file (it was in My Device / My Documents), click on it - it opens Word again.
10) Add some formatting (I have selected part of text and changed font to bold)
11) Close Word - it asked whether to save it in Word format - this time I said Yes
12) Power-off the device and press soft reset again
Now you can find this anywhere on the map, with a lil bit of google skills, however .. its just not working for me. I did the exact things listed, and even changed some small parts of it during the 10 times I tried. And yet my problems aren't solved. I'm wondering, quite desperately, if theres anyone out there that might actual know what could have caused it or fixes it. I'm sooo not looking into a format/reinstall.
Thanks in advance
is active sync giving you an error code (a number)
Thank you for your fast response. Sync isn't giving an error code or number. Baiscally what the error messages tells me is, free translated:
"Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync troubleshooter in Microsoft ActiveSync help on your desktop computer"
but in Dutch. All it leaves me to do is press OK and start a sync checkup, which doesn't find anything but the usual Outlook "problem" (I don't have it installed, nor do I wan't to sync email with it).
joel got an idea ?
Waited half a day, plox joel, if you got any idea help me out. I'm afraid I gotta hard-reset, but I wanna avoid it. Any help is welcome ...
No clue?
I'd like to bump this once more, since theres been some interest in it but now it's just forgotten
honestly, the best way to solve these types of problems is a hard reset.
the time you spend in here / searching in google / trying stuff is much longer than what you'd spend hard reseting and installing stuff.
i also suggest you get a system backup app so you won't have to reinstall and copy and sync every time you need to hard reset.
I know thats the easy solution, and I will hard reset my device, but only ONCE I got my photos contacts and texts off it. Especially the photo's are quite important to me.
Some how I must have clicked on the "Don Not Ask Me Again" box on the USB connection screen. Now I have to manually go to the "settings" - "connections"- "USB to PC" in order to change from active sync to disk drive. I have the Ask me first box checked but no luck.
Any ideas?
BTW, I did try the search function and I am running the new HTC Fuze stock Rom.
Many thanks to all!
reset the phone , if that doesn't work hard reset the phone . with something like this unless you know the registry (which would take quite awhile to find) you can't fix it unless you reset the phone.
Yeah, usually all you have to do is check mark that in the settings. It happened to me once too, and I couldn't change it. So I had to hard reset.
I have the same problem. Someone must have figured it out already!
I would try changing it in the registry:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\USBtoPC]
"DisablePopUpUI"=dword:00000000
You want it to be 0.
resetting activesync default start up choice
Thank you Farmer Ted! Been struggling years with this type of problem, including doing hard resets... Your simple registry solution does the trick.
I have searched the forum and I don't see anything that applies to my situation. Active Sync does not recognize my phone ( a TTyN II ). I did a hard reset on the phone. I uninstalled and reinstalled active sync. Active sync WILL recognize another WM phone but not mine. Now it has been reset, I have nothing on it, and no way to reload anything on it. Please help. It must be the phone since the PC will recognize other phones ... but I have just done a hard reset and I don't know what else to do. I need my info back.
On settings-connections-usb to pc disable advanced functionality
Hope it helps,
Tried it without success But thanks
Hoping you can help. I've become 'the phone guy' at my office (i'm already one of the 'desktop guy's'), and as such i have to help with our various Touch's, Diamond's, Touch Pro's, Touch Pro 2's, HD2's and even the occasional Treo (plus E71's, E72's and most of the Blackberry range).
Most of it i've figured out, having been around Winmo since the QTEK 9100, but there's one issue that has escaped me. Outlook/email/activesync, whatever you refer to it as on the device.
All our smartphone users (except the BB's) connect via an exchange connection. But i've found that if you hose up the setup (mis-spelling the server name, user name, domain, etc) without realising it and then try and connect, obviously you don't connect but when you find the error and correct it, the device still won't connect until you do a hard reset and set it up again.
In addition, our AD policy requires a password change every 60 days. Too often, even when the user knows how to update the password in WinMo Outlook, it gets hosed up, and we have to hard reset (again). 60 days is plenty of time for some users to have installed plenty of extra apps, so its always enjoyable to explain that we have to hard reset the phone....
Yes, normally i'd expect to 'right click' "*Outlook E-mail" and select 'Delete', but that's always greyed out.
So, how can you delete the outlook account settings without having to hard reset the phone?
Thanks.
Never mind, i found the answer.
Open Activesync on your smartphone and click Menu - Options. Selct your account and click Menu again and select Delete.
lol yip that was gonna be my advise to you lol, well done!
