Are you on Linux or Windows?

i have both

nobody can help me?

I know that you can use unyaffs to unpack a .img file, but I'm not too sure about how to repack one.
Edit: I think you could use mkyaffs2image, but I would have no idea how to go about doing that.

take this
HOWTO: Unpack, Edit and Re-Pack Boot Images
but its not as easy as it seems...
PS: versuch mal damit

You could make an update zip by unyaffs'ing the system.img, making changes, making a ZIP with the original update-script from the original roms update.zip META-INF folder.
Then you just need to sign the zip and apply it as a update.
Or probably a better way would just be to flash the nandroid image onto the phone, then edit it on the phone. (Just make sure you have the nandroid backup incase you make it crash and burn)

Old cooker want to cook something

After many many tweaking and cooking ROMs for WinMo I want to do same with Android. The reason I cooked for WinMo was speed, but since it is not an issue with mine Desire(but it can be better I want to customize ROM a little bit, so remove some stuff and later maybe add few apps. If this want be a problem I will try to tweak too.
However in WinMo I have always have served kitchen, I just tweaked removed and add few things and job done but here there are no kitchens..yet(I hope somebody will sooner or later post it
So is there anybody who can help to set up kitchen so that I can cook few roms for me and this community?
So if I understanded correctly I need following to start cooking
android sdk
java jdk
signing tool
stock ROM
I have downloaded them all, extracted SDK in D:\HTC Desire\Android SDK, installed Java JDK in C:\Program Files (x86)\Java and I don't know what to do next?
Extract ROM, where(?), extract system.img which is in rom.zip if yes how and where?
Thanks for your help
Benko, you can extract the ROM anywhere you want. But, you don't want images. You should look at Pauls rootedupdate.zip as a starting point. Unzip that.

Ok extracted that rootedupdate.zip and found a lot of apks and obexes so after I delete those files that I dont want how to put that all back together to file that is flashable?
You'll have to resign the zip after removing stuff, otherwise it will give verification errors when trying to flash.
You need to remove the current certificates from the file, there are three files in the META-INF folder - delete those, but keep the update script (the COM folder inside), it's needed for flashing.
I use this little thingy for signatures: http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Generating_Keys
Hope this helps!
PS-beware of any dependencies between the various apk's and any framework modding that might be needed, otherwise you'll get more fc's than you can carry; I know I did
PS2- if you want a served kitchen, you'll find one over at Modaco, for a CyanogenMod port (a link is posted in a thread here) - see if that suits you're needs.
PS3- check out the Chef Central sticky here, too - it should be easier to get quicker/more accurate info from the seasoned cooks there

Rezip the folders: meta, system & boot.img.
Then resign them. You can then transfer it to sd and try to flash. If it doesn't boot, then you have to troubleshoot.
May I know that how to change layout of the home screen?
e.g. HTC sense has news/mail widget where first installed and booted.
Where can I change these settings?
Also , I want to know if I made my own rom, and updated to my desire.
If it doesn't boot or anything, can I updated the rootedupdate.zip from Paul to get the desire back working?
Thanks

@Kevin-yes if it is not bootable you can flash Pauls rom again

Hopefully. After a few hundred times you'll get the hang of it. ;P
If it boot loops, it won't boot. Try again. Always remember what you're adding and subtracting. Maybe start out with only a couple things.

So for now I even don't need Android SDK?
I downloaded the rom kitchen from Chef Central...Does the rom need to be sign after I built them out in Linux?
Also there are some folders I not understand yet....
Inside system folder - customize, etc, framework, usr and xbin I dont understand yet.
Cause looking at eVil D:'s rom and paul's rom is very different in those. And even paul's rom doesnt have customize folder.
Would like to understand all and see if I can make a rom out.
Thanks
Anybody tried my ROM ?

the kitchen signs the rom automatically. run the menu from terminal ( using linux) and u will see all the what the kitchen is doing.
do not try to compare custom roms ... they are different. some have extrafiles & folders depending on their customisations.
best thing is to compare with an original rom for the desire. and u see what has been added to get X and Y. involves a lot of trials and errors.

You could use dxisida's android kitchen to do all tasks, you put the system.img and boot.img in the 'original' folder and then make it a update.zip rom through the kitchen.
thanks all~! once my xtc clip arrived will try to do it. still waiting T_T...

[Q] convert rfs stock rom DXKT7 into ext4 on PC

hello guys,
First thing is I'm a noob here, totally noob, altough I have used galaxy fit for almost one year now and have tried many, many custom roms here, I think it is already the time that I'm making my own.
So I read many tutorial how to make a custom rom, with dsixda kitchen. I read there on the original thread that dsixda kitchen didn't support our device, but I was persistent, downloaded all the requisites, and skip skip, finally I understand now why, because the file system of DXKT7 is rfs (system.rfs), it must be converted into ext4, or at least has system.img (am I wrong?), so I search every tutorial about converting file system into ext4, and almost all suggest it should be done on the device itself, or should I say, flashing this stock rom via ODIN, root it, and then u can convert it into ext4.
isn't there any way to make it done in PC so I can start edit this rom in kitchen?
I read it somewhere about extracting initframs.cpio from zimage, please, if anyone know this way, please teach me how
any explanation are appreciated, thank u in advance guys, n sorry for my english

not very hard ,just extract initramfs.cpio from the zImage ,add this line
CONFIG_EXT4_FS=y in filesystems, then change Mount points in init.rc of Ramdisk
and then Format All Dev Blocks e.g. System,Data,Cache to ext4 !!

copy system.rfs and csc.rfs from a stock rom and boot.img from custom rom to ur original_update folder and extract it...follow onscreen instructions in the kitchen and use magiciso to extract system folder and then do the mods and all u want and pack it now it will work meta-inf folder will be autogenertaed but replace the update-binary in ur created rom from anyother custom rom and it will surely work

I have unpacked boot.img using advanced options in kitchen's menu, now I have folder ramdisk and zImage, what to do now to convert it to ext4?
oh, I followed ur instruction, extract system.rfs with magicIso and put them together with boot image (the one from stock) and others in original update folder and now I can deodex it.
my question, should I change the boot.img with custom rom's boot image so it can support ext4 file system or just go with the stock?
or how can I change the kernel?
edit : oh, after hours searching I just found this thread, everything I need is here--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414534
anyway thank u guys.

ur boot.img from stock is rfs format so it wont work if u use that...use boot.img from any custom rom that is also based on ur baseband version(DXKT7)man..the boot.img will automaticaly have the ext4 filesystem(in custom boot.img not stock)....kernel is later part of ur rom man better not go into that now .....copy boot.img from custom rom of ur baseband version then system.rfs and csc.rfs file from stock rom and do as i said above and dont forget to replace update-binary in ur rom after creating the output_zip file from any other custom rom or ur rom wont install

UPDATE-ZIP/Flashable-zip Whole-file Signer

Here I present,
An easy to use and effective, Flashable-zip(or update.zip) Signer!
There are many update-zip(flashable zip) Signers available, but this is special.
This Signer WHOLE-FILE signs your update.zips/flashable-zips, so it can pass even recovery's Signature Verification(Tested on CWM 5.0.2.8 on HTC Wildfire S)!
Unfortunately, as I am not very veryGood at C/C++ Programming, this tool does not have a Graphic User Interface(GUI).
I apologize, but as I am new to XDA, I don't know how to insert pictures, "Code:" etc, so this thread may look very ugly to you.
Oh yes! And DON'T EVER delete any file included in the zip, as it will cause the zip signer to malfunction.
I may have made this flashable-zip Signer, but I couldn't have done it without this people:
zeppelinrox ( for teaching me a little C/C++ Programming with his scripts )
The creator of signapk.jar ( an important part of this tool )
Google ( For Creating Android so that these tools can be developed )
YOU! ( for testing out my flashable-zip Signer )
And many more, who I apologize for leaving you out
Guide to using this zip signer
To Use this Signer:
1) Unzip the file(Obviously!)
2) Copy & paste the update-zip(a.k.a flashable zip) that you want to sign into that folder.
3) Run ROM Signer.bat
4) Follow the instructions in the application.
5) When it says "File successfully signed......", You are DONE!
After File signing operation succeeds, check the "signed" folder for your signed zip file.
Thank you for Using my Flashable-zip Signer!
I would appreaciate if you would hit the "Thanks" button.

Sorry let me better understand your issue first, you want to create a flashable update.zip for installing your firmware files right? So you want to create the correct META-INF files from scratch? Do you have TWRP recovery installed on your phone already? Cos it supports a newer kind of META-INF structure that makes a lot easier. Also your firmware files are for installing into the /system partition, or to be flashed? Sorry for having so many questions haha, I can better help you if I understand the technical details

Thank you for that n1osbb2;51494733.
I also have a bricked one, it gets stuck at animation. I can boot into stock recovery.
Can someone tell me what I need to do to fix it?
Another idea is if we could change the firmware version number to something lower, then the Alacatel "Mobile Upgrade S" would be essentially forced to overwrite it. Right now it sees my phone's version as up to date and stops there.
So... Is it at all possible to alter the firware version number on the phone?

Hi, the backup by MTK droid tools fails everytime, I'm trying to debug the error.. If I have sucess I'll upload it.
BTW you can try another methods:
-Flash the CWM using MTK droid tools ( if you want the modified recovery, img I can upload it, or if u want MTK generates the img automatically: there is a guide on google; and then you can flash my backup without user data trought the CWM
If u want CWM make adb works, so you can do a backup of your firmware in order to can come back in the prevoiuos situation if it's needed
OR
-Using the latest version of SP flash tools, u can flash the system.img that u can find in my CWM backup. The latest version have no bugs with the generation of the scatter file, so it could work, but I'm not sure
Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand..

Is the modified recovery.img not the one included in the zip you uploaded?
Re the second option, there is no system.img inside - that's the reason I asked for a MTK Droid Root & Tools backup.
The contents of your zip are these:
Code:
.android_secure.vfat.tar
boot.img
cache.ext4.tar
recovery.img
system.ext4.tar

So, I have done half MTK droid backup (it stops when it give me the error, so is not thecomplete backup, but the system.img os ok..) and there is the system image file.. I can upload it 5-04 night (GMT+1) or maybe this night. I'll post the link when it's uploaded.
The firmware of the 4033D have the custpack partiotion too, adn I don't know if it's needed too, so if the flash of system.img fails I'll upload the custpack too
The recovery with CWM is here: https://www.mediafire.com/?bg4rtah9tsbhszs
EDIT: I done a full backup with MTK adn I prepared files for flash tool. I compressed it all in ~460MB archive, t should contain everything. The upload time is the same!
EDIT2 4-3-14 0051 gmt+1: I'm uploading it on Mediafire! It's a high compressed arc archive, so it can drop the pc perfomance while extracting, so have patience
With my connection it wants a lot of time, it say ~8hrs

Thanks for the reply.

Can u tell me how did u installed CWM? I can't find the compatible image..
Or, if u want, can u upload it? So I'll do a backup and I'll upload it! TY
Edit:
I've installed CWM 5 ad I did a nandroid backup.. It's 1.6GB ( uncompressed ).. So, I'll begin to upload it 31 night (GMT+1) splitted in parts in MEGA or MediaFire.
If someone can test it is better, but it should work!
