Hi All.
OK, I've rooted my Vodafone HTC Magic.
Now. I'd like to install one of those new firmwares, how can I install them?
I'm looking to get a little bit more speed out of the sucker, multitouch, and all those nice things I see in this forum.
Cheers
The same way you rooted your phone? with the recovery-new.img ?
Download a firmware which is compatible with your phone.
rename the .zip to update.zip and put it on your SD
(fastboot via CMD, type the following commands on your desktop not on the device):
fastboot boot recovery-new.img
Fastboot, back-up with nandroid, reboot.
Copy nandroid folder from SD to your PC. (If you want to go back to Vodafone firmware)
Put update.zip on the SD and fastboot again.
Whipe and update.
(whipe clears everything.)
I got the Google ION R3 Lite from nk02.
And i have a Dutch Vodafone Magic.
thanks for that.
I managed to figure it out and I'm running a new firmware!
No.
What different firmware are there out there for magic? what are the features of each?
Cheers
You got an Hero Rom, HTC orignal rom, Google ION rom, Haykuro's Rom and some other provider roms like vodafone sfr and a italion one.
maybe some more which i didn't found yet.
thanks mate.
I'm mainly looking for a rom that is both fast and stable.
Any recommendations?
Are these roms covered somewhere else? what they come with and etc?
I got my first rom yesterday and that's the:
nk02's Google ION Multilanguage R3 Lite
It got 3 verions in 2 different types. Lite and with addons
R1
R2
R3
It's got the new google voice search. and some few extra's.
Got 2 minor bugs but they are not annoying or a real big problem.
Date format and no dutch type language.
I rather type for myself, hate auto word filling.
Noverca HTC Rom - Vodafone Magic
Hero Rom for G2 Sapphire
Rogers ROM for Sapphire G2 Magic
and some more, but you have to search the forum or other pages for that.
OK, apparently, it must be OK (G1 perfect SPL too!)
It's just a shortcut to the MT3G section, then go to the link!!
It's here!
what's here? changelog, features? am i missing something?
Just a link from the mt3g forum, fun. Dunno why'd I pick this rom over Vega's or King's.
I will try it why not ,may be it work and we dont have to flash new patches every day like vega's or king's.
Thank to post the comment in the other post please, thank!
Flashing it now
Think this is the 32a port for g1/32b users anyone have a changelog?
Yes, if you go to the link!
This ROM locks up on both of my G1s at the boot (Tmo/G1) screen, with either the 26I or new radio. Using Amon's 1.6 recovery, Fat32/Ext3 or 4/100mb swap. I've completely wiped each time, and tried it with and without the RH&Killproc patches and still the lockup. Am I missing a base ROM and is this compatible with Haykuro's DeathSPL? Anyone else having this issue?
again
you have kings legend 2 g1 and other great legend ports already
porting this POS rom for your phone is a mistake....
sanpei rom is not even any good - the only reason people use it is because its the best one for new radio....
I liked it, because i wasnt able to set APN on the other Legend Ports (FC in set up), but every time i close an app (return to home screen) it keeps loading for a few minutes.
OK, this bug si soon fixed, I'm uploading the v17!

Download APN backup from the Android market.
Next time you have a rom loaded with a full APN list, do a back up.
Then whenever you have a rom loaded that has no or an incomplete APN list you can do a restore.
Either that or get a decent APN list config file from one of the better roms and push it to your phone.

G1 Bug fixed! V20 availible!
I just tried this on my G1 and it's stuck on the G1 screen..back to vega legend.
But thanks for updating the rom...
New threads with the first post just linking to another Rom?
Get your **** together and don't open redundant threads, now I have to think about what to do with these after reports about their in clarity.
So this on gets closed.

Newly rooted HTC Inspire, my picture messaging stop working after i rooted my phone does anyone know how to fix it?
I haven't flashed any ROMs to my phone yet or done anything to it fo real
The ROM left on your phone after rooting it was never meant to be left on there. Pick a new ROM and flash it to your device.
Also you might wan't to flash a new Radio/Ril because I was/am still having some problems. It gets a little easier though once you can flash ROM's and Radios faster.
I am running the stock version of Gingerbread on my phone and just noticed today that the WIFI tethering option is not working. I don't live in the US and my phone is SIM unlocked.
When I select the WIFI tethering option I get a message to contact AT&T to purchase a tethering plan, I guess they did this to prevent people in the US from doing it since it was possible to do it with the Froyo version by deleting the APN settings.
I downloaded a widget that let me do the tethering once but not anymore.
Has anyone found a workaround for this?
Yes. Quit using the att stock rom.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
apn
follow this and use the guide to get free wifi teather on your phone.
http://www.unigizmo.com/1696/steps-by-steps-guide-–-to-enable-data-tethering-on-htc-inspire-4g
That will only work for Froyo but not Gingerbread . The new ROM won't even let you use those APN settings
I guess I will have to go back to stock Froyo. I did rooted once and instaled Coredroid but had to many annoying issues. Oh well hopefully someone will find a fix that doesn't involved rooting and whatnot. But thanks anyways
I have the GB too and I can confirm the old workaround doesn't work around and more.
I'm hoping for a new way .... Does anyone know of a fix or a 3rd party app that will provide the same functionality?
I've never "rooted" a phone before. I have the HTC Inspire and I was hoping to.
Can I root the GB version that is already installed? There is a Wireless Tethering app that won't work and asks .... Is your device rooted?
Hi everyone,
So far I haven't found any fix for the WIFI tethering or an app available in the Android market that will bypass that. So I just went back to Stock Froyo using the official RUU from HTC
About rooting, yeah sounds a bit complicated but if you follow all the steps then you'll be fine. I was kinda scared when I attempted to root my phone. I used the hack kit or whatever was called and I worked, make a search and you will find the guide. Then I installed CoreDroid V7 but it had some annoying issues, no random reboots or force closes though. Then after a week of using that ROM I read about the GB official updated and I downloaded the RUU. I gotta say the phone got a bit faster but today I discovered the WIFI tethering thing and it is something I use, maybe not all the time but is a great tool when there is no WIFI available to connect your computer to the Internet.
I shall update to GB when someone finds a fix for that. Good luck you all
Something you can try. I don't know if it will still work but if you turn airplane mode on and all at&t signal is off then turn on your wifi and go to the market and search for wifi tether apps.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I did try that. What I did was to put the phone in AP mode and it would let me activate the tethering option but as soon as I enabled the mobile connection I would get the same message that I need to call bla bla.
But Froyo will do alright for me right now. I didn't see any noticeable changes in the GUI in comparison with GB but GB does manage the resources better and improves the battery life. Next time I'll get a phone that is not carrier branded LOL
Bobbypty, I am having the exact same problem and want to do what you did when you say "So I just went back to Stock Froyo using the official RUU from HTC."
Can you please point me in the right direction as to how to obtain Stock Froyo from HTC? I have been to their site and can't find it, and I've searched the forums here and elsewhere on the web and can't find anything specific to this. I would really appreciate your help since it sounds like you have done EXACTLY what I want to do!
What's up?
Here is the direct download for the RUU and this will install the stock 2.2 for the phone. You will need to install the HTC sync in order to run it. Just double clicked on the exe file and you shouldn't have any problems. Make sure your phone has 30%+ of battery.

Or go here and the download link is there

Is that going to downgrade radio as well? Thanks in advance.
Yup.
Everything will go back to stock. Radio version 12.39.60.19H_26.06.04.06_M Android version 2.2.1
Hi everyone,
Seems that there is no fix for this right now since the ROM for this phone is branded by ATT unlike the Desire HD (Close sister to this phone) is a unbranded HTC ROM.
So pretty much the options we have is either to go back to stock Froyo or root the phone and then install a custom ROM that is based off the DHD Gingerbread ROM, I've been reading other forums and the custom ROMs based from the Inspire 4G will still have the WIFI tethering option blocked, so stay away from those. Make sure the ROM you are installing is based from the DHD. Try Coredroid, Cyanogenmod or whatever you like. Rooting this phone is not that complicated and I was able to do it with a little help.
Good luck with the rooting/flashing if you decide to go for that. Search for Ace Hack Kit for instructions.
I was able to get wireless tethering working on an AT&T gingerbread ROM, I modifed the apn xml before i flashed it, I modified APN Type to * for all of the AT&T / ATT/ medianet entries in the file (except for the mms apn that exists in there). I can upload my file when I get home or you can download my ROM from the rom thread (static nonsense) and grab it from /system/etc. Theres also an apn file in /system/framework/framework-res.apk inside the xml folder, Mine is more or less blank, so you may want to replace that file as well. Just a thought anyways

That's essentially what I did in InspirePhacopida and that works on my phone, but I was able to do it on my wife's stock phone by just adding an APN, so who knows?
Hi Gene and beerbaronstatic,
First of all thanks for the assistance.
I guess that for me to do that I'll have to flash the ROM via rooting and whatnot or did you modify a file within the RUU so I can just run that and flash it as if I was the regular ROM?
Regards
Robert

No. You can't modify an RUU zip. They are signed by HTC. If you modify one, or make an unsigned one from scratch, then you must have S-OFF so that the hboot loader ignores the signature (or lack thereof).
This is Gingerbread 2.3.3 on the Inspire NOT Froyo 2.2
Thanks anywho....
Yes. The WIFI tethering option WILL NOT work on the stock Gingerbread ROM of the HTC Inspire, this will only work with stock Froyo by manually setting the APN.
If you want to have the WIFI tethering option with GB, then you will have to root the phone to install a custom ROM based off the Desire HD which is the European version of the Inspire. Coredroid is the only one I've used so far but right now I went back to stock Froyo.
I've been searching the forums and I've seen people replace their respective stock mms.apk. I just got my 4g slide, coming from the g2 and im not used to this sense mms stuff. I liked the stock mms in the g2 way better. I tried handcent/chomp/go sms...neither was my thing. I'm rooted so if I had to mod anything, thats good...I just need instructions. I just want the regular android 2.3 stock mms i was using in my g2. Is there anyway to accomplish this? Really appreciate it
If you post up the .apk you want to use in this thread, i'll take a look at flashing it to my phone when I get home from work this afternoon. I'm going to run through all the ROMs I have in sequence testing the custom kernel in the dev section, but right now at this moment my phone has it's stock ROM running.
I can write the update and flash it to see if it works before I go about erasing everything on the phone - just an fyi though, i've never actually done any text messaging on the phone so I can't tell you how well it will work, just if it installs and opens fine.
If it does, i'll post the flashable update i'll end up making so you can run with it...unless someone else gets to it before I get back here today.
