Near bricked my universal but i don't know how.
Recently upgraded to TML89_WM61_21048_REGULAR_64MB. (Nice ROM Tomal, many thx.)
Then installed a couple of apps to try them out. (Fechit, Tenki.)
Then two days later machine froze while surfing gmail. I had to hard reset to get any change. Soft reset did nothing.
Hard reset did not solve problem though as phone is now almost completely dead. Only repsone i get is if i attempt a hard reset. I get the reset screen (0 to reset, X to continue), and even says clearing and cleard OK if i press 0, but then imediately goes dead.
Usb does not connect properly (XP, device not recognized.), and flash attempts to many different ROM have not worked. Not ROM flasher even sees version number on phone.
I hope someone has an idea on how to solve as i miss my universal. I am back to my backup phone (CECT X-one) but it is so slow, and has no wifi/keyboard/bluetooth (Activesync or a2dp.).
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum
As Tomal recommended on his thread, please do Doc format
Have you done that?
Have a deep read in the Wiki:

Good luck,
Could it be a battery problem? I recently encountered a mystery battery problem where the unit ceases as soon as it passes the flash screen, even though the battery was on charge the entire night, at first it works for a few minutes and then dies. Not only that, it simultaneously happened to 3 batteries within a day. Try, if you can, with another battery that is fully charged.

This happend once to me. Enter boot loader mode (press poweron+brightlight switch+reset sw) and do a DOC format and reflash.
Read Wiki to get familiar about DOC format and entering boot loader mode.
Also this has happened to me many times. An almost dead phone with only bootloader mode available.
Yes DOC format is ok as also re writing another ROM.
It is something like losing the boot sector of a disc as i casn understand.
M phone is a G4 1.19 radio
Thanks for the help
Thanks to all who made suggestions but unfortunately none have helped. No boot loader availlable. (no response when i push backlight, power, and reset.)
Also i have tried with three different batteries after this was suggested.
I won't give up yet though. After all it is not really dead.
Ino.
Hi
Its strange but one thing or the other should work. Try with a fully charged battery.
Remove SIM and SD Card from it.
see if PC recognises the Uni.
If it does not then disconnect from USB port and try putting it in boot loader mode, actually power and backlight buttons to be pressed at the time of pushing reset switch (am sure you must be doing it, but do a bit careful... but just in case try this carefully)
best of luck

The last thing I was doing was removing the HTC Plug In, it asked me to reboot and i did, now it is stuck in a never ending cycle of reboot. The furthest it gets is to the Microsoft start up screen then it shuts down and starts all over. I tried removing the battery and starting. Nothing works. Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I think now may be a time to start investigating how to flash roms.
just found this...not much help but it is a lead for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361216
how does flashing ROMS help me? Also, I work on Apple.
If your ROM is corrupt then reflashing the original (or a hybrid - your choice) may get it back to a working state.
Don't panic it may not come to that, I'm sure someone here may have an answer for you.
Try soft reset minus the SD card. If no go well then you may need to hard reset the device. sucks but it should work. Now if even that doesnt cure your issue then you may need to head over to HTC's site to get the ROM, Put the phone into bootloader mode and then reflash the ROM onto the device. Usually the rebooting is a corruption. So id go hard reset first. yeah youll lose everything but if you recently synced then no biggy.
Yup, tried that. Oh well, looks like a hard reset for me! Thanks guys.
Hoping someone can help me out here. I've tried searching both xda and google with no luck, partly because the problem is similar but not the same as several other kaiser SPL issues I've found.
The problem began when i went to install a new rom. I always use the SD card method because I find it easier and safer. I copied my new rom to my SD card and entered the bootloader(current version is Hard SPL V1 (1.00.OliPof)). Tri color screen appeared and then update screen listing the image and its contents and telling me to press power. At this point the phone freezes, I can not start the upgrade or cancel out. soft reset works fine to get it to boot again. I have tried several different ROMs including some I have flashed before and got the same results.
After looking around the forums, discovered i needed to update my hardspl. downloaded jockyw2001's 3.56 hard SPL and KAISDIAG, and attempted to flash via SD card. KAISDIAG loaded fine but update froze again at press power screen. I tried reflashing hardspl v1, and hard spl 3.07 with same results.
At this point i thought i may have a problem with my SD card, so went to upgrade SPL via activesync. copied Jumpspl 1.94 to my phone and tried to perform upgrade. kaisercustomRUU got to the progress bar on computer and device and stopped, then after a couple minutes stated that there was a connection error and to recover. recover booted straight into OS. I tried the instructions for white screen freezes, and forceusb with same results
During my troubleshooting i discovered that i cannot hard reset my device via the hardware keys or clear storage.
Don't know if this is related or just a glitch in the ROM but about 2 weeks ago the phone started soft resetting randomly after the battery got under ~40%, more often as the battery got lower until it went dead.
The phone still boots up fine and works, but this ROM is too glitchy for my needs and would like to try something else
My current Rom is JoshKoss' WM6.5 21929 full
My current Hard SPL is Hard SPL V1 (1.00.OliPof)
My current Radio is 1.65.24.36
using a toshiba 2gb SD card
computer is running Windows XP pro SP2 and newest version of active sync
Sorry about the long post but wanted to make sure i explained myself clearly.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Brandon
With the 3.56 and the update failing, sometimes it takes several goes for it to do a successful flash. Have you followed >this< 100% to the letter? Disabling USB etc. There's really no room for error. If you don't follow it 100% it will probably never work.
As for not being able to hard reset, are you sure you are holding down the correct keys? When I first started with the kaisers I was holding down the wrong ones. You must hold the button above the IE key, and the one above the mail symbol (so the 2 keys with the lines on them), and then soft reset, while holding the 2 front soft keys until the keypad backlight flashes once quickly and then displays the reset screen message. Then you can let go.
Maybe this won't help you but you never know. Good luck.
I appreciate your help. I had not seen that page, but those directions are identical to the ones i have, and i triple checked myself at each step. As for the hard reset, I have hard reset(to factory defaults) several times before, now its like im not pressing the buttons at all. however the most confusing part is that i cannot hard reset via the OS. i click clear storage and nothing happens
Did you remove the sim and sd cards before trying it via the OS?
And maybe this thread will help you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=338030
Yes i did remove the cards...
That thread was interesting though... the last post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3741096&postcount=26 seems to have the same hard reset problem and i also have the standby issue he describes. I had assumed that was a glitch in the ROM. I also opened my phone up to replace the display flex connector not long before i noticed the issue.. i think there may be a relationship there. I sent that user a message to see if he found a solution
edited for clarity
I have same issue - after installing HardSPL and load new ROM i'm not able to make hard reset(actualy all buttons stop working), Active Sync recognize my phone as guest and everithing is grey. ROMUpdateUtility give me error ERROR [224] : DEVICE NOT RESPONDING - i'm sure that cable is OK .. test it wit other phone ...
Yesterday my phone's battery died from not charging it and I didn't think too much of it. I plugged it back in to charge however and it automatically booted up...into the boot loader with a message saying "No Image File!" (figured out this was because its checking the microsd card for a rom - I usually flash over usb). Tried to flash another ROM and it appeared to be working but after the reboot (before you get to the stylus configuration screen) just went back to the bootloader and gave the same message.
So, has anyone encountered this before? Looks like the ROM isn't storing anything (and my phone is essentially dead) but perhaps I need to do something simple to fix it.
Thanks in advance!
It's been posted a few times, but it's rare. Try flashing a stock rom over usb.
Hey, appreciate the help!
Tried it and no dice however. Looks like the message I was recieving (No Imaging File!) was from it looking for an Image off the SD card (I always flash off of USB so I had never seen this). Tried to initiate a hard reset from the boot loader as well but it just gets stuck on the "This operation will delete all your..." screen and pressing Volume Up does nothing.
So I tried to flash the ROM found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429843 and am still stuck where it reboots back to the boot loader after the flash.
Maybe try flashing with the sd card removed; you could also try task 29. Sorry, I have no other ideas.
Edit: And I know I've posted this in similar threads (lol), but maybe your vol down button is stuck. If that's the case, any time you reset the device, it will go into bootloader. I can't think of any other reasons you phone isn't booting up properly (other than, like, the phone is toast).
Hey, yea last night attempted to flash without it in as well as from the SD card. Neither worked.
So I kept searching and was reading all about mtty (and task 29) and that looks like the way to go. Couldn't get things to work properly on my Windows Server 2008 R2 box so I'm going to try it from an XP box here in a bit and can hopefully get everything connected.
If anyone is curious, I found this thread describing the use of mtty: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540290
Well, took it to work where I have an XP machine and plugged it into the USB port. It didn't turn on automatically (which it has been when supplied with power) which was kind of weird. So I hit power and voila, it loads the ATT ROM I flashed last night.
Not sure what fixed it (I don't think it was a stuck key, but who knows) but its working now. Thanks for your help Ted.
Here is what I have I can not get Odin to find the phone to do a master clear. My phone has a charging issue in that it thinks it is charging all the time even with the charging cable unhooked from the phone and that stays whether I am running 2.1 or 2.2. All of my computers are Windows 7 and will only find the phone if it is download mode?????
I am hoping against hope it is a software issue but I am thinking it is a hardware issue. But want to try everything possible to fix it before I buy replacement parts or a new phone.
I have tried the instructions from other threads without any success.
Could someone give me a step by step process that goes from starting fresh by deleting current drivers and reinstalling everything. I may be missing something from the instructions I have followed so far.
Also if you know something else to try I am all ears.
After you one click odin to reinstal Jf6 you have to set the phone to mass storage and USB debugging again ( found in settings-aplications ). Then plug the phone back into your comp while Odin is up and running ahead of time and the phone booted and running. It should recognise it ( you'll hear that dreaded sound ), click master clear and wait for the phone to do it's thing.
Well I finally got odin to find the phone and done the master clear and it did not help.
So unless anyone has any suggestions I will assume it is a hardware issue.

Since you're having problems with the phone being recognized maybe it's hardware. But, my phone is recognized just fine and I have an extremely hard time getting it to master clear.
I would guess I've only gotten it to master clear twice out of probably 40 or so attempts. About 10 of those times was in download mode, but after I found out it had to be booted up it still only master cleared twice. What I do to increase the odds is manually clearing everything I can, after backing up. Factory data reset, then I go into Clockwork and clear everything I can in there by digging into the menus - cache, data, Dalvik, etc. Then I go back to stock, then just hope it'll master clear on that flash attempt.
When it takes, it goes fast, but I've let it try for 15 to 20 minutes before and had nothing happen. No progress showing, just the start announced in Odin and then the disconnection announced when I get bored of nothing happening and pull it.
So my point is, maybe try it a few more times before you write it off as hardware. I don't recall the exact conditions when I got it to work, since it takes so many tries. But I believe it's been flash to stock Eclair, rooted, USB debugging on, and sd card mounted. Maybe not mounted. I reboot the phone after every time I try.
Edit: I did another update today and master clear worked fine. Un-rooted Eclair booted normally, usb debugging enabled, and usb mounted.
Have you had the phone not turn on while it wasn't plugged in?
My phone appears to be dead.
When I tried to flash the radio (for US carriers using the top sticky in this forum), it seemed to erase the ROM, or it wouldn't boot in any case despite hitting the reset button and trying a hard reset. But I was able to flash a new ROM (Energy ROM) onto it.
BUT, then I tried to run Olipro's unlocker. But, I got the Raphael unlocker by mistake (I just now realized this). During the process, my phone went dead and it won't come back. I tried to restart, hard reset, and to put it in bootloader mode. Nothing is happening. The light won't even come on when I plug the charger in. When I connect it to the PC windows recognizes it as Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM.
Have I killed it? Is it a brick? Is there anything I can do to bring it back? Or should I just start shopping for a new phone? Please help.
Prognosis does not look good. If you can't even get into the bootloader it could be trouble. That is unless your power button is shot and preventing you from getting into bootloader. Don't think it will help but you can try flashing a stock ROM. Worth a shot.
