Sync Contacts & Messages without Touching Actual Phone - General Questions and Answers

Okay if you want the WHOLE story here goes: (if not skip to the second paragraph)
Last night I came home from working a double shift and was very tired. I was sleepily playing with my phone and my genius self decided to reset my password (since I've recently said my password out loud a couple times when I give ppl my phone and they ask me to unlock it for them) but of course my genius self makes a password to stupe anyone who would dare steal my phone...and in the process dupe myself as well. I dont remember a damn number from the password ...except possibly an 8 and a 1. Anyways I woke up in fright and shock and looked every where on google for a way to circumvent the password. No luck.
Then I remembered that a while ago I changed the settings on my computer so that I didn't have to unlock my phone every time I plugged it in. YAY! Except th one computer that has that feature does not have outlook, or at least outlook isnt working right.
In essence my question is this. Someone please let me know of a program with which I can backup my contacts (and preferably messages as well) without actually having to do any installing on the phone itself or toying with it...since I can't get past the password screen. Basically a program that would be pc based. If not, could someone please lemme know how to do it step by step on outlook? cuz i've tried a millino times (prior to this password fiasco) and have never succeeded...I feel like my outlook isnt the full version or something tho..like some features are gone. I dont know.
Also, could I just go into my phone folder, copy and paste everything out, hard reset, then copy and paste everything in? It wont lemme copy the file "cemail" whatever that it.
PS my phone is an HTC Touch Diamond, the verizon version.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. Please help me out, cuz it really is a sucky situation. Especially wen I know that everything in my phone is just a password away. A password that I created....in my sleep. What the heck man. THanks in advance!

WM6.1 - I'm asked for a password, but I don't have one!

Hello.
I recently got a Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 (with Windows Mobile 6.1), and I set a password on it.
Sometimes when it would ask me for my password, the shift or fn keys wouldn't work, so I couldn't enter it. I would have to soft reset the device to be able to type in my password.
Frustrated, I decided to disable password protection entirely. I then found that after leaving the device alone for a period of time (while sleeping, for example), it would lock and ask me for a password - but since I no longer had one, I couldn't. I would have to soft reset the device to bypass the password screen.
I searched around, and found that this was a bug in Windows Mobile, and the only solution was to hard reset and never enable password protection. After a while of putting up with it, I flashed my device to use itje's Touch-IT v7, and I performed a hard reset. It was fine for a while, but now it's doing it again: it's asking me for a password when I leave it alone for a period of time, but I don't have one. I never set a password this time.
Is there any real solution to this? It's incredibly frustrating. Thank you in advance.
you mean the security password that is enforced when using exchange email? there is ap app that will enable you to turn it off, but you should read this thread (the app is listed here but you should take heed of the warning from deedee). I leave it up to you.

Try "hard reseting" it
I'm not using Exchange email, and the checkbox to disable password protection isn't greyed out (like it is in that thread). Thanks for the link anyway though, I'll have a look around the registry.
Anyone else know anything about this?
Edit: As I said in my original post, I already tried a hard reset when this problem originally appeared. I hadn't touched the password protection settings at all since my hard reset, but it's happening again.
Does nobody have a solution for this?
are you sure someone isn't messing with your phone and setting a password? I've been using windows mobile for 6 years and never had that problem.
And you said something about a bug.... can you link me to whatever you found?
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
I just tried searching for that again, but unfortunately I can't find it. It was a thread with somebody saying that they have no password set, yet the device asks for one so they can only bypass the screen by soft resetting - and that's the exact problem I'm having now. There was no solution posted so I didn't bookmark it or anything.
I am the only person that has had access to my phone, so nobody has messed with it. The password setting is definitely disabled, and the HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001023 registry value is set to 1 (disabled). My phone doesn't ask me for a password when I first start it (so I can get past it each time via a soft reset), it just seems to happen after 10 hours or so - I'm not exactly sure what triggers it.
Edit: I'm not sure if this is what I read before, but it seems to describe the same thing.

Thats the question: is it really time for WM6?
So far i believe that the device cannot digest what we have so far of WM6. Too many non-functional things or bugs if you would like to say =_=
Device auto-locks and asks for password and if you dont have a password you cannot get into the device other than by soft reset. Asks password even for activesync! PDAViet has problem with activesync in vista as it disconnects after 5 minutes. WiFi only turns on from Comm center. Hang up's on 25MB free RAM. A lot of memory leak! 10MB to run SPB Time -_-...

I have recently purchased HTC Touch with WM6. 2 days ago, it suddenly locked. I couldn't unlock because it asks for password. Because I didn't set a password, I couldn't unlock.

This is really wierd, i have been using wm since 5 was on the scene and ive never come across your issue. I appreciate that your not using exchange but did you try the zeynee unlock app? It might stop the lock screen, you never know. If it doesnt work then nothing lost huh??
I didn't try it, no. I was concerned about the posts saying the application used up too much battery power, and thought checking the registry would be good enough (since nothing should be changing the value). I'll install it now and see if the problem still occurs. I don't have much hope that this will help though.
Okay, it just happened again. The application didn't help.
Ok, worth a try...
Have yoyu considered flashing to a different rom to see if this works? Is there a new stock Rom available?
Ill have to look more into this, maybe msdn has something on it.
Well, I had this problem with both my original Vodafone ROM and the custom one I'm using now. I'm reluctant to flash it again due to the hassle of reinstalling everything again.
I think it may be related to notifications. It just happened again as I got a text message, and last time it happened just before I received a Skype call. When I'm away and come back to find it locked, there tends to be a new icon in the notification area. It definitely doesn't happen every time I get a notification though...

Replaced SIM Card -- Now Can't Log In!

I really hope someone can help me with this, because I'm going crazy.
This will require a little history, so bear with me. A couple of weeks ago, I lost my Fuze. Last week, I bought a cheap (prepaid) AT&T GoPhone and called AT&T to have my number transferred to it. I used that phone successfully for several days, until this morning, when my lost phone showed up!
I was ecstatic, thinking that now I'd finally be able to sleep again p), but my excitement changed to disappointment after spending 30 or 40 minutes on the phone with AT&T, explaining my situation over and over to get them to understand what I needed, then following their instructions, and finding that my phone wouldn't work.
They informed me that my old SIM card had been disabled and was therefore useless, and suggested that I put the card from my GoPhone in my Fuze. I did so, but when I then turned the phone on, I got this message:
*****
Owner: Keith Russell
(xxx) xxx-xxxx
Enter your password and tap "Unlock". You can also enter an emergency phone number.
*****
My phone has been passworded in the past, but not recently, because I was trying to resolve some problems and was doing a lot of soft resets and didn't want to have to deal with the logon security. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure the message I was seeing was one I had never seen before. Nevertheless, I tried all the passwords I could think of that I had used on the phone in the past, but none of them worked. Every time, I got this message:
The password you typed is incorrect.
I called AT&T again, and this time spent over an hour on the phone with an AT&T rep and later, an HTC rep. We tried several default passwords, which also didn't work, and the HTC rep finally had me do a hard reset.
I installed my registered version of Sprite Backup 6.5 and restored my most recent good backup. The restore was successful and the application did a soft reset when it was done. Things seemed to be working fine and I spent a couple of hours cleaning up duplicate or large notes to free up memory. I also emptied the recycle bin in Resco Explorer. I then did a soft reset, thinking that might help with the cleanup.
Believe it or not, when the soft reset completed, I got the unlock prompt again!
So I'm stuck. I'm hesitant to do yet another hard reset and restore, because I expect that the same thing would happen again, eventually. I'm also not very excited about calling AT&T Support, because they didn't seem to know any more than I did about this problem.
I have no idea where this unlock prompt is coming from: whether it's hardware, firmware, OS, or application specific. I do have Pocket Secure installed and it's possible that that's what causing it; I just don't know.
Can anyone tell me what's causing this and how I can get around it?
Thanks very, very much for any suggestions you can provide.
u cant do a full restore with sprite as what ever it has that makes the prompt will come back, do custom dont add anything but your contacts and messages.

[WP7 Stock] Reset Password

So my niece got my personal WP7 Samsung Focus and I removed the password so she could game and she put a password on it. She doesn't know what she typed in, any way I can get back into the phone? I would like to keep the pictures on there if at all possible, since they were not auto backed up to SkyDrive due to data caps.
Any ideas? I've tried a lot of combos and nothing....
tried syncing with zune or the usb enabler i dont remember if that works under locked screen but zune should...
Zune says the device is locked and requires a pin... I miss Windows 98 when you could press cancel and get logged in. Or the iPhone and its bugs that let you login.
u sure ur pics werent backed up the last time u synced with zune ? hopefully
Very sure. I really hope there is a work around or something I can push to it like I did with my Dev Phone and Mango.
hopefilly there is... did u try the usb enabler ?
Just tried it and no such luck
Thanks for the ideas thou!
hey ur welcome anytime ... sorry didnt work only solution i have ever heard of for forgetting password was a hard reset...

[Q] Locate my phone without app

Yesterday i lost my 1 month old HTC HD2 (with MIUI on it) and i really want to have it back. To bad i didn't install a locater app yet, so is there a possibility to locate my phone without a pre-installed app (a google service or something like that)?
Thanks
Wow, I feel your pain.
Have you try out Plan B? https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb&hl=en
It can still install itself onto your phone from the Android Market website, provided it is on, have data connection and the phone is still tied to your Gmail account.
It will be able to give you GPS location.
Here is an exaggerated account on how someone got his phone back, but I suspect the credibility of this story.
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2011/08/how-plan-b-found-the-droid-i-was-looking-for.ars
Nonetheless, it works and still gives a little bit of hope.
PS: Press "thanks" if you think I helped you. It will be my first "thank". =)
i've pushed install B to my htc already, but i don't know if it installed. didn't get any mails yet, so i don't know where my phone is
Hmm.... unfortunately, I cant provide any further help...
When technology fails, we can always fall back to basic human kindness.
I lost my phone once before, but the finder was very kind to call my home and tell my mother about it. Thus I was able to retrieve it.
The finder guessed that it was my home number by searching through the contacts and saw the entry named "Home". But it was a few days later then she called my mum.
So let's hope for the best. =)
call the police first! maybe they can track the phone when someone use it

[Q] uaing root explorer..trying to change default gmail acc

So before I start, I just want to say that I can't do a factory restore because at the moment in in India studying and getting another unlock code would take too long and isn't advisable I think. also, one night my inspire was charging and the whole night the air conditioner was dripping water on the screen..all night, so I'm pretty sure the digitizer is broken because the startup goes fine and the screen still works but when it come to unlocking the screen I can't..the phone doesn't reasons to any of my touch. Luckily my sister wanted an infuse, got that and I just got her phone the inspire. However here is where the gmail problem plays. In short I want to get all my stuff from old inspire to nrw.
Anyway I've read threads that claim that changing the gmail account is possible, I've tried everything before finally downloading root explorer. For some reason market is having a hard time connecting but that might just be for the moment, hopefully. Anyway I downloaded rootexplorer through Megaupload online, still works ap its all good I presume.
Anyway, after downloading I read that I must go through data to system then find accounts.db of which I must delete it and then reboot order for gmail to ask for email again.
Unfortunately, everytime I go to the root I go under data..nothing is there. I search up accounts.db and it searches and searches but stops or idles at say/class/msm_vidc_enc/msm_vidc_enc. Question is why can't I fins it? What now
So ya, dunno what to do and stuff. All help much appreciated
couldn't you just log out of the current Gmail account in the accounts and sync menu, then log in with the desired account?

The only problem I would think then is not being able to unsync the original and replacing that with my gmail acc ap it could hopefully get all stuff I've lost from my broken digitizer phone.
Sorry couldn't fins the edit button.... anyway I tried the logging out thobg like you suffered however it didn't work out..can't really fins a way to do it. Also says the sync OS having problematic ap it is temporarily down. Root explorer still searching through thw msm vidc file..but isn't frozen because the searching wheel is still going found and round.

The hack kit carrier unlocks your device so no need for an unlock code. Best bet is to either factory reset and or since you've done the hack kit flash a new rom.
