I'm sure this is in the wrong place, but it does have a lot to do with the Hero ROM porting that's goign on here. HTC Brazil's website is showing off the Magic with Sense. Anyone come across this built yet? I'm sure it will work a lot better than Hero ROM ports since it's official from HTC! http://htcsource.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=732&Itemid=51
Great news!!! Thanks for that Nick.... really looking forward to the official release
Damn i was hoping the brazillian magic phone had our low ram. Would this really change anything?
salivating... hope it can be made into a suitable rom for 32a soon

We are just waiting for a Brazilian person to extract it and we can have it too (I think so).. I was reading it and there's good and bad news!!!
Good:
Is really the 1st HTC Sense Ui officially on a Magic!
Bad:
All stores from the Brazilian market listed on the HTC website from the link there, hasn't the equipment available and only the TIM network are promoting the Android phone and asking for filling a form for a pre-release/information (I didn't feel it) about an Android phone (I think it can be the Magic).
soooo.. any brazilians got it !! if not HURRY THE F UP!

I doubt it~! I didn't see for sale it yet on any of the authorized HCT Brazilian shop!! We will have to wait, maybe the release date is the same that our so WANTED update will be released!
that sucks.. so does anyone have a magic with a hero rom that is fast.. and you are satisified with it?
I will not be satisfied till our ui is up to speed with the ones in iphone..
I can get nooo..

I'm not sure any Andrid UI will ever be as fast as the iPhone. The iPhone UI is only an icon list and that's pretty much it. We'll need a Snapgragon powered Android phone from HTC to acheive a no-lag Sense experience.
i am excited about this. having a native sense ui made specifically for the magic is good news and hopefully will improve performance since we dont have to port from the hero to the g1 to the magic. once it's released we just need one of the devs to root it for us haha then we can install like a normal rom, i think, right? i dont want to lose root to install this.

HTC will release the Magic in Brazil only in the 2nd half of October. And IIRC TIM Brasil will launch BOTH the Magic and the Samsung Galaxy.

Since HTC controls this.. it sounds like it will be as well the time as well that we will have our so DESIRED HTC Sense UI updates! But, anyway we'll see..
Hope that I'm wrong in the good way (that they release first the update, since is already made)! One month to go..
midway october is still 3 weeks away , hope someone get a piece before hand and can make a dump and put it up for people to breakdown.
can't wait ! Singapore's one is releasing on Nov, one month later of wait

nativ or not. the problem is the same...
the htc magic in brasil is using 288 mb of ram.
its good for the 32a users but 32b has the same problem as now
even tho it has 288 mb ram , it will still be a better port of Sense as compared to the current one which is of a whole different model , so this would have lesser bugs and im sure with some swap in place it would be pretty snappy for those who have the 32B as well
The main benefit I see from this is that the LED and Bluetooth issues should finally be resolved.

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been answered before!
Does anyone know if its possible to install an Android rom on the HTC HD2? That phone with android would be amaazing.
Thanks!
Not without a whole lot of work.
It is definitely a waste of that hardware to put wincrap on it.
The one reason I would NOT contribute to running android on that device is that every one of those devices that HTC sells, some amount of your $$ gets sent to microshaft, so strictly from the perspective of "I absolutely will NEVER give ONE THIN DIME to those greedy evil bastards", I would ignore the hardware and not do anything that could potentially boost its sales.
Always possible with XDA Dev...see this active thread in the Leo section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578575
Thanks for the responses...
Yeah I would love to see Android 2.0 on a Snapdragon processor. I too have a distaste for contributing to MS by purchasing an HD2, but it would be worth it
I get the feeling the recently confirmed "Google Phone" will infact be a modification of the HD2. The thing is, it's so fricken perfect in terms of form factor, I hope they don't make it worse in an attempt to make it distinguishable different from the original
Fingers crossed. And thanks, Ill check out that link.

So do you own an HTC HD2 or not? If as you say you shouldn't have one, and how you would know if Android is not easy to install on HD2?
You can hate MS as we all do, but don't bad mouth a great piece of hardware, which maybe great if it runs Android.
wouldnt it easier to buy the nexus one ?
specs are close enough ....
maybe the release of this will make a port easier

I too, would like to see an android release on the HTC HD2... I really expected more from winmo 6.5
i hope there will be a port for winmo6.5 on hd2
We're all waiting for this mate.
Better be aware of who you support

You complain about MS but think that Google is better? Really! You might want to check into the politics and beliefs of the Google CEO Eric Schmidt. In one of his most recent interviews he stated that he saw nothing wrong with controlling the news available to users via it's home page and search engine. Funnier yet is that they complain about China's censorship, I guess he beliefs censorship is ok as long as he is the censor.
Anyway, didn't mean for this to become a rant, but Google is no better than MS when it comes to attempting to control a market. Windows & Palm were first on the scene with smart phones and both of their operating systems have grown tremendously. I would even say that Apples iPhone OS would not be as intuitive today if it were not for MS and Palm.
Do you really want to port your own version of Android to HD2? It will never be as smooth and fast compared to say just buying an HTC Supersonic.
Also, what do you do with it when everybody has moved to Android 3.0? You won't have any support for it. The ROM Cook may no longer be interested with porting Android 3.0 to what would have been an old outdated piece of hardware in a year's time.
You're better off just buying an HTC Supersonic. At least you could pray that HTC would give you future Android versions when they become available.
I've played with a Nexus one and a HD2. The hardware is not close in my opinion. The supersonic (Evo) looks great but it's cdma.

I'm sure (or at least hopeful) that a GSM version will be available later. It's a shame to have such an excellent spec hardware not available to the rest of the world.

Really! I've gotten so tired of my Pro2 with WM 6.5, I would buy one in a heartbeat if it was GSM and supported my carrier's 3G. But of course, AT&T has to get the worst Android phones in history in its lineup while forgetting about HTC completely.
If the only thing to edit is the radio rom, shouldn't be such a big deal for all the developers here.
Really looking forward to my HD2 running android!!

I hope you know why At&t doesn't want htc smartphones on their lineup? The reason is because they dont want any htc phones to destroy the iphone. Which is true...sales will drop if a htc 4"3 screen showed up. Not to mention apple is sueing htc.
I just noticed the HTC desire has almost identical specs as the HD2, except for the screen size, most of it is the same, both are gsm....cant they port the android os from the desire on to the HD2..??

Apart from the obvious when, another question is how much of the Sense v3.0 will we get? ported ROMS have shown our hardware is capable of running the full Sense v3.0, will they agree?
they wrote we get sense 3.0, in the comments the wrote desire hd get PARTS of sense 3.0
so i guess we will get... full sense 3.0
WHAT!!!Is it a good news? It is quite laggy using Incredible S with sense 2.1,I don' t think it can handle sense 3.0

It's all a marketing strategy by HTC, to promote & sell new devices. For them DHD is old enough and perhaps achieved it's required sales quota. :S
this is really great news
cant wait for the update
Nice indeed. They probably made a customer support FB account so that people can vent there instead of the HTC page.
Really not sure about this, my Desire S goes really smooth now, and from what i`ve seen from the dual core Sensation is that it`s lagging a bit. Also with the same amount of RAM i`ve got 360 MB free from a cold boot and the Sensation only got 190 MB free.
i had it running on desire hd with 1ghz (not overclocked) and it didnt lagged at all, it was running beautiful
mojav: don't compare it, sensation got higher screen resolution => more work for cpu/gpu
It's still is a great news
Well, hopefully the update will happen by the end of this month. Now i don't know whether i need to root my phone or not........... Sense 3.0 was the thing that pushed me off the edge. Now, since i'm getting is without Root, why risk bricking my phone??
Well i hope they will add tweaks with the sense 3... if they do that then we dont have a real reason to root the phone

I'm also not sure whether this page is genuine or not but regardless, I "LIKE"d it on FB. I'm busy for the next 2 weeks, and I'll wait to see if it's just a stupid sham. EDIT: This may seem stupid, but i think that creating a fake page and telling fans that there will be a Sense 3.0 update seems a nice way of getting one for real. Think about it - fans see the post and get hope, soon there's a post on the official page saying that his was fake, and before you know it, there's thousands of angry protesters spamming HTCs wall. Sound familiar??

Hey i have a question.. is the new sense 3.5 coming too for the HTC Sensation?
As it's aimed at lesser powered devices I'd say no but you never know
Surely it must work, I wish I knew how to resize the files from the new DHD rom and try to port it over.
Yeah, just seen the DHD Bliss-based ROM. Ideally we'd need to wait for another qHD device to be released to get it. Or that new 4.5"-screened HTC Android phone announced recently (like the Titan)

maybe the revamped sensation will have it, but it wont really matter to me because i like senseless better
It is, but I'm sure I've heard there's gonna be another Android handset the same size. Could be wrong, mind
EDIT: The Holiday is 4.5" but leaks so far show Sense 3.0
The only thing I'm interested from in Sense 3.5 is the new Notes widget. That looks slick.
of course it will come out
Yeah, I'm sure it will come out, we have an excelent development team here
Most likely

EDIT: Old post, my bad!
Hey everyone. So I would like to bring you some discussion here about on what the future holds for our HTC Desire S when it respects to the official HTC support.
The main question here is, what do you think that HTC will do with the Desire S? Will they bring ICS to it? Will they try to be soft and bring just Sense 3.5? Or is our Desire S done and no more updates will come? It would be quite interesting to see what everyone thinks that may happen in the next few months
i doubt very much we will see anymore major official updates ,just maye a few revisions.htc support there phones pretty badly tbh,and as much as i love my desire s and this community i doubt very much i would purchase another one of the htc phones as it will carry on the same legacy i expect .
I think HTC will do nothing. They can't support all the phones they released which is why they've decided to take it slow
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
I hope that HTC is still going to release an ICS update for Desire S, but that's probably false hope. HTC has released too many phones (about 5 different versions of the Sensation?) to provide support for every phone. They will just concentrate on the higher-end models, which unfortunately the Desire S isn't. Luckily there is a great community working hard to provide us with future updates
The current/typical market trend IS to take advantage of the thirst for the bleeding-edge OS and the cutting-edge hardware, and as businesses, they'd be mugs for not exploiting that. There is no way HTC had any serious plans for giving the Desire S official ICS ROM. However...
They (HTC) have gotten the balance wrong this year and they know it. Too much quantity, not enough quality. Sooner or later, even the rich kids will get fed up of being 'expected' to upgrade a handset every 8 months to stay 'on trend'.
At least HTC seem to have taken note of this...
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/26/htcs-uk-ceo-wants-to-ease-off-the-new-product-gas-focus-on-am/
Don't forget the original Desire did eventually (through popular demand) get an official gingerbread update, just that HTC never designed the phone's hardware to cope with the increased size of the OS over Froyo. So disclaimers were required should we then complain that there were only enough room for 10 apps once 2.3.3 was installed!
But on the flip-side this is why you chose Android. This is why you chose XDA. You want something that comes out of the box, and gives you the opportunity to improve it in your own way, to your own liking. To take the initiative. We almost need HTC to drop the ball so we can pick it up and run with it.
The day a stock Android phone comes out of the box perfect to everyone's needs for years after its purchase will be a sad day for XDA.

what he said..... hit the nail on the head with that one
Fair enough, I would have believed HTC if they released a official statement about Desire S not meeting hardware requirements.
However, hearing that the Sensation XL is receiving ICS really got me annoyed. It proves the hardware is capable.
The XL is almost identical to us, apart from the OC'ed chip, and thats getting ICS.
I don't see why we can't get the upgrade.
Where is HTC's announcement of the second wave of devices that are getting ICS too? We are still yet to hear from them.

Sorry, i wasn't suggesting that the desire s couldn't cope. I'm pretty sure it could. Just saying that in my opinion it's unlikely HTC will be in a hurry to stop us buying more handsets, and it will be good to see what the devs here manage to port for us.
This week a friend asked me what he should upgrade to this march. He has an old desire, and isn't a heavy user. Not interested in dual cores or massive screens. I looked at all the options and it was still the desire s or the Xperia Ray.
The only reason i recommended the xperia ray was because he HAS to have a Vodafone upgrade. Vodafone's stock ROM on the desire s has that ludicrous 'pocket mode' forced on, and you can't turn it off. 8 hours battery life max. My dad ended up sending his back for that reason. He wouldn't let me root it!

HTC has done many contradictions in the past and sometimes they had to go back in what they said.
First when the Sensation came out people asked if Sense 3.0 would come to older devices then HTC quickly stated that older devices could not run it due to hardware restrictions. Then they released the HTC Rhyme with !GHz CPU and 768MB of RAM running even newer version Sense 3.5. So HTC gave us Sense 3.0 as it was evident that it could run it.
After that we had the Desire 2.3 update. HTC telling people the phone didn't have enough memory for Gingerbread and they had just released the Wildfire S with even worse hardware running Gingerbread from start. So HTC gave people with Desire the 2.3 update.
Then now with ICS. It is obvious that the Desire S can run it (Nexus S...) but with Sense over it and HTC's hesitations over support may lead to no update.
My theory is that when a phone is released it has to be updated to at least one version of Android. The Desire S came out with 2.3 from start so we can believe that it will come to ICS. We will get the answer when HTC reveals the second wave of updates to us.

Very good explanation!
I really do hope that's the case!
I think the DHD is a lucky device... It started with 2.2, got 2.3.3 + New sense 2.1, then another update to 2.3.5 + sense 3.0. If we get ICS, the DHD will have to get ICS (same specs). I don't think HTC want to give the dhd anymore updates
So HTC might choose not to give us ICS for that reason otherwise they would also have to update the DHD.

I may be wrong, but my feeling is that all devices from Desire HD and Desire Z and later will receive the update. The Desire HD was the top phone for HTC of it's time and I don't think HTC will kill it if they decide to give Desire S the update.
The only question here is the all mighty Sense UI and that is HTC's fault because they built a so deeply integrated UI. Honestly I can live without the 3D transitions as ICS actually has its own ones. It will up to what HTC will do with Sense UI.
Dont know about you guys but HTC has always been keep-the-customer-in-dark with Desire S. IMHO I dont know why they do it... I mean it came with sense 2.1 and 2.3 when I bought. After a while some patches and fotas were there but when we got sense 3.0 it was some guys phone which got updated made the news not a disclosure or say news by HTC that its been updated and which makes my geeky mind cheer in the doubt of my mind that we may recieve ICS officially
Now about the thing that here are devs that are doing a hard job to get ICS on ours and imo they have been succesful as in there-was-no-way-but-they-did-it successful. But think if theres an official update what might happen then? I am no dev or **** but as I understand that would made works on other roms ports a heck lot easier...

The only question here is the all mighty Sense UI and that is HTC's fault because they built a so deeply integrated UI. Honestly I can live without the 3D transitions as ICS actually has its own ones. It will up to what HTC will do with Sense UI.

Good explanation, but keep in mind, the Desire Z did not receive the official Sense 3.0 update.

This is pretty sad, if HTC won't upgrade our Desire S to ICS. I mean, Sony Ericsson has announced and committed to ICS upgrades for their 2011 lineup--and those have the same chipsets as our Desire S! SE's flagship for last year, the Xperia Arc, was launched around the same time frame as our Desire S, with virtually the same Qualcomm chipset. No way HTC can use that excuse, and they know it.
18 months is not yet up for this phone, so if Google is right, we should expect support/updates till around September or so of 2012. As much as I dislike Sense, HTC ought to be ashamed of itself if they won't give us ICS. I can imagine they're in a bind, because they are compelled to give us ICS, but don't want us playing around with the ICS'ed Sense 4.0 and would rather have us get newer, more expensive 4 inch slabs
Come on, HTC. Gain some goodwill among us. Roll out ICS and the latest Sense. You know it makes Sense

That's the way to go, but just as always magic will not happen and HTC Desire S probably will not get ICS update because of that politic, meanwhile Sony Ericsson goes more democratical way and releases updates for customers, not only "top list'' customers as HTC do. I respect HTC, but the point how they sorts updates by devices is to drastic, just too painful for user like us, who knows what their device is able to do, but they simply do not feed it. To be honest, if HTC Desire S will get official ICS update, then it will mean that HTC is changing their political statement and magic is happening.
You guys havent read the internal leak that confirmed ICS for desire s?

The current/typical market trend IS to take advantage of the thirst for the bleeding-edge OS and the cutting-edge hardware, and as businesses, they'd be mugs for not exploiting that. There is no way HTC had any serious plans for giving the Desire S official ICS ROM. However...
They (HTC) have gotten the balance wrong this year and they know it. Too much quantity, not enough quality. Sooner or later, even the rich kids will get fed up of being 'expected' to upgrade a handset every 8 months to stay 'on trend'.
At least HTC seem to have taken note of this...
