Apart from the obvious when, another question is how much of the Sense v3.0 will we get? ported ROMS have shown our hardware is capable of running the full Sense v3.0, will they agree?
they wrote we get sense 3.0, in the comments the wrote desire hd get PARTS of sense 3.0
so i guess we will get... full sense 3.0
WHAT!!!Is it a good news? It is quite laggy using Incredible S with sense 2.1,I don' t think it can handle sense 3.0

It's all a marketing strategy by HTC, to promote & sell new devices. For them DHD is old enough and perhaps achieved it's required sales quota. :S
this is really great news
cant wait for the update
Nice indeed. They probably made a customer support FB account so that people can vent there instead of the HTC page.
Really not sure about this, my Desire S goes really smooth now, and from what i`ve seen from the dual core Sensation is that it`s lagging a bit. Also with the same amount of RAM i`ve got 360 MB free from a cold boot and the Sensation only got 190 MB free.
i had it running on desire hd with 1ghz (not overclocked) and it didnt lagged at all, it was running beautiful
mojav: don't compare it, sensation got higher screen resolution => more work for cpu/gpu
It's still is a great news
Well, hopefully the update will happen by the end of this month. Now i don't know whether i need to root my phone or not........... Sense 3.0 was the thing that pushed me off the edge. Now, since i'm getting is without Root, why risk bricking my phone??
Well i hope they will add tweaks with the sense 3... if they do that then we dont have a real reason to root the phone

Why go for a fake page? just to generate fans!!! that's implausible & totally not worth it, also they are advertising on HTC Official page, didn't they think it through that their cover will be blown before they know it!? I believe they are genuine & belongs to HTC..

I'm also not sure whether this page is genuine or not but regardless, I "LIKE"d it on FB. I'm busy for the next 2 weeks, and I'll wait to see if it's just a stupid sham. I'm pretty sure there will either be news on the Sense 3.0 update, or an announcement by HTC saying the page is fake. If it's the latter, then XTC Clip, here i come !!
EDIT: This may seem stupid, but i think that creating a fake page and telling fans that there will be a Sense 3.0 update seems a nice way of getting one for real. Think about it - fans see the post and get hope, soon there's a post on the official page saying that his was fake, and before you know it, there's thousands of angry protesters spamming HTCs wall. Sound familiar??

According to @HTC_NL, the sensation range of devices will receive the ICS update soon (before the 1st of March). On the 1st of March an ice white sensation will be released in Holland.
Link here (it's in Dutch of course): http://www.whizpr.nl/persberichten/8268
Article from tweakers.net (source):
HTC provides users of the Dutch Sensation, Sensation Sensation XL and XE soon an update to Android 4.0 ICS. On March 1 also appears that a white Sensation Android 4.0 already installed.
To update existing devices called HTC no period, the manufacturer has only said that "soon" will take place. The update was on the air offered to users. It is still unclear whether the devices with the update to ICS also immediately be provided with Sense 4.0.
About new features in Android 4.0 version of HTC Sense is still little known, HTC has just announced that shortcuts at the bottom can be adjusted by the user. Recently there appeared images of the new version of Sense, showed that the appearance, colors and screen animations differ from both Android 4.0 and the current versions of Sense.
HTC Sensation spent the last year in June from 2.3 with Android. Last autumn there were the Sensation XE and XL on the Sensation. The Sensation runs on a Qualcomm MSM8260 dual-core SOC running at 1.2 GHz. The GPU is an Adreno 220. The phone has a 4.3 "LCD with a resolution of 960x540 pixels. The camera has a maximum resolution of 8 megapixels and shoots video at 1080p with 30fps.
The manufacturer will this spring, next to the white Sensation, presumably releasing new models. These will most likely at the Mobile World Congress telecommunication fair, which takes place later this month in Barcelona, are presented
Nevermind, HTC has clarified that the phone will be coming with 2.3 and will be upgradeable to 4.0 ... lame.

This would be awesome, as they would release kernel sources with this phone which might be compatible with the original Sensation/Sensation XE... which would allow better custom kernels for ICS which is the only thing wrong with [email protected] at the moment! (apart from the *few* minor bugs )
I wont hold my breath that it will be soon

There will be not ICS on 1 March, on XE White. R u blind all? Read!
Update: HTC just wrote us to say that its original press release was incorrect — it'll actually ship with Android 2.3 and be upgradeable to 4.0 down the road, just as its other Sensation versions will be. In other words, don't expect an ICS-equipped Sensation on March 1st... but you can expect a white one with Gingerbread. Furthermore, the white Sensation is already available in select markets, so the PR is simply announcing its upcoming availability in Benelux. Now, the question becomes: how much longer is the wait for the upgrade?

Yes how retarded of people not pre-emptively predicting an updated article.
Take a chill pill.
Im seriously not impressed with the way HTC are masking ICS, AOSP ICS is a beautiful thing, so can sense be, but htc have gone about it all wrong with sense 3.6 and 4, I think im steering away from HTC slowly but surely, and can almost guarantee that I will be going AOSP ICS when it is stable!
Oh man, there is 3 threads about "1 march ics", and one opened after 1st etc... noone sees that article is updated? Or even that some thrads r arleady open with updated information? Please...

You can say that again...
I like sense functionality, unlike its skining...it would be nice if they keep sense with AOSP design...
I like the ROM's that are already out there, and as posted above as soon as AOSP is stable I'll be going to that.
On the other hand I wonder what's taking HTC so long, we have devs that do this for fun and they're releasing great ROMs and here you got a major company that you would think have lots of professional devs that do this for a living and they take forever.

A chef here has to make a rom which is pre made and stable and tweaks it. If it works for 99% of the users it's good. Htc has to release a rom which work for 100% of the users.

You forget that it isn not just a phone software that they need to update and polish, they need to sort out all cloud services that their ecosystem is all about (eg facebook for HTC, watch, hub, likes etc).
I would rather wait a few weeks to get a finished product, than have unpolished system that has memory leaks or whatever...
You forget that average user doesn't want to mess with rooting and flashing and they even don't know about that alternative (and/or care) so they cannot and will not flash new "xda" software when official rom "breaks"...
Very true, didn't think about that.
well, you can press thanks button so i can open new thread sooner
hope they release it soon..

Hey everyone. So I would like to bring you some discussion here about on what the future holds for our HTC Desire S when it respects to the official HTC support.
The main question here is, what do you think that HTC will do with the Desire S? Will they bring ICS to it? Will they try to be soft and bring just Sense 3.5? Or is our Desire S done and no more updates will come? It would be quite interesting to see what everyone thinks that may happen in the next few months
i doubt very much we will see anymore major official updates ,just maye a few revisions.htc support there phones pretty badly tbh,and as much as i love my desire s and this community i doubt very much i would purchase another one of the htc phones as it will carry on the same legacy i expect .
I think HTC will do nothing. They can't support all the phones they released which is why they've decided to take it slow
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
I hope that HTC is still going to release an ICS update for Desire S, but that's probably false hope. HTC has released too many phones (about 5 different versions of the Sensation?) to provide support for every phone. They will just concentrate on the higher-end models, which unfortunately the Desire S isn't. Luckily there is a great community working hard to provide us with future updates
The current/typical market trend IS to take advantage of the thirst for the bleeding-edge OS and the cutting-edge hardware, and as businesses, they'd be mugs for not exploiting that. There is no way HTC had any serious plans for giving the Desire S official ICS ROM. However...
They (HTC) have gotten the balance wrong this year and they know it. Too much quantity, not enough quality. Sooner or later, even the rich kids will get fed up of being 'expected' to upgrade a handset every 8 months to stay 'on trend'.
At least HTC seem to have taken note of this...
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/26/htcs-uk-ceo-wants-to-ease-off-the-new-product-gas-focus-on-am/
Don't forget the original Desire did eventually (through popular demand) get an official gingerbread update, just that HTC never designed the phone's hardware to cope with the increased size of the OS over Froyo. So disclaimers were required should we then complain that there were only enough room for 10 apps once 2.3.3 was installed!
But on the flip-side this is why you chose Android. This is why you chose XDA. You want something that comes out of the box, and gives you the opportunity to improve it in your own way, to your own liking. To take the initiative. We almost need HTC to drop the ball so we can pick it up and run with it.
The day a stock Android phone comes out of the box perfect to everyone's needs for years after its purchase will be a sad day for XDA.

what he said..... hit the nail on the head with that one
Fair enough, I would have believed HTC if they released a official statement about Desire S not meeting hardware requirements.
However, hearing that the Sensation XL is receiving ICS really got me annoyed. It proves the hardware is capable.
The XL is almost identical to us, apart from the OC'ed chip, and thats getting ICS.
I don't see why we can't get the upgrade.
Where is HTC's announcement of the second wave of devices that are getting ICS too? We are still yet to hear from them.

Sorry, i wasn't suggesting that the desire s couldn't cope. I'm pretty sure it could. Just saying that in my opinion it's unlikely HTC will be in a hurry to stop us buying more handsets, and it will be good to see what the devs here manage to port for us.
This week a friend asked me what he should upgrade to this march. He has an old desire, and isn't a heavy user. Not interested in dual cores or massive screens. I looked at all the options and it was still the desire s or the Xperia Ray.
The only reason i recommended the xperia ray was because he HAS to have a Vodafone upgrade. Vodafone's stock ROM on the desire s has that ludicrous 'pocket mode' forced on, and you can't turn it off. 8 hours battery life max. My dad ended up sending his back for that reason. He wouldn't let me root it!

I was criticizing HTC for their poor decision. If the XL is getting ICS, we should get it. We have the same specs.
Heck, even the 2010 phone, Desire HD has near identical specs as the XL. Even that, should get ICS..
Silly move by HTC.

HTC has done many contradictions in the past and sometimes they had to go back in what they said.
First when the Sensation came out people asked if Sense 3.0 would come to older devices then HTC quickly stated that older devices could not run it due to hardware restrictions. Then they released the HTC Rhyme with !GHz CPU and 768MB of RAM running even newer version Sense 3.5. So HTC gave us Sense 3.0 as it was evident that it could run it.
After that we had the Desire 2.3 update. HTC telling people the phone didn't have enough memory for Gingerbread and they had just released the Wildfire S with even worse hardware running Gingerbread from start. So HTC gave people with Desire the 2.3 update.
Then now with ICS. It is obvious that the Desire S can run it (Nexus S...) but with Sense over it and HTC's hesitations over support may lead to no update.
My theory is that when a phone is released it has to be updated to at least one version of Android. The Desire S came out with 2.3 from start so we can believe that it will come to ICS. We will get the answer when HTC reveals the second wave of updates to us.

Very good explanation!
I really do hope that's the case!
I think the DHD is a lucky device... It started with 2.2, got 2.3.3 + New sense 2.1, then another update to 2.3.5 + sense 3.0. If we get ICS, the DHD will have to get ICS (same specs). I don't think HTC want to give the dhd anymore updates
So HTC might choose not to give us ICS for that reason otherwise they would also have to update the DHD.

I may be wrong, but my feeling is that all devices from Desire HD and Desire Z and later will receive the update. The Desire HD was the top phone for HTC of it's time and I don't think HTC will kill it if they decide to give Desire S the update.
The only question here is the all mighty Sense UI and that is HTC's fault because they built a so deeply integrated UI. Honestly I can live without the 3D transitions as ICS actually has its own ones. It will up to what HTC will do with Sense UI.
Dont know about you guys but HTC has always been keep-the-customer-in-dark with Desire S. IMHO I dont know why they do it... I mean it came with sense 2.1 and 2.3 when I bought. After a while some patches and fotas were there but when we got sense 3.0 it was some guys phone which got updated made the news not a disclosure or say news by HTC that its been updated and which makes my geeky mind cheer in the doubt of my mind that we may recieve ICS officially
Now about the thing that here are devs that are doing a hard job to get ICS on ours and imo they have been succesful as in there-was-no-way-but-they-did-it successful. But think if theres an official update what might happen then? I am no dev or **** but as I understand that would made works on other roms ports a heck lot easier...

This is pretty sad, if HTC won't upgrade our Desire S to ICS. I mean, Sony Ericsson has announced and committed to ICS upgrades for their 2011 lineup--and those have the same chipsets as our Desire S! SE's flagship for last year, the Xperia Arc, was launched around the same time frame as our Desire S, with virtually the same Qualcomm chipset. No way HTC can use that excuse, and they know it.
18 months is not yet up for this phone, so if Google is right, we should expect support/updates till around September or so of 2012. As much as I dislike Sense, HTC ought to be ashamed of itself if they won't give us ICS. I can imagine they're in a bind, because they are compelled to give us ICS, but don't want us playing around with the ICS'ed Sense 4.0 and would rather have us get newer, more expensive 4 inch slabs
Come on, HTC. Gain some goodwill among us. Roll out ICS and the latest Sense. You know it makes Sense

That's the way to go, but just as always magic will not happen and HTC Desire S probably will not get ICS update because of that politic, meanwhile Sony Ericsson goes more democratical way and releases updates for customers, not only "top list'' customers as HTC do. I respect HTC, but the point how they sorts updates by devices is to drastic, just too painful for user like us, who knows what their device is able to do, but they simply do not feed it. To be honest, if HTC Desire S will get official ICS update, then it will mean that HTC is changing their political statement and magic is happening.

EDIT: Just read that the Sensation will get it by the end of march, and the XL soon after. Then, probably the Evo 3D will follow. Our device should be the first among single core family (DHD and IS, not Sensation XL) to get the update, like it got the 2.3.5 Sense 3 update. I believe it would be close to late April/early, May. So it's gonna be quite a long wait. But better late than never
I'm amazed...... Wow, never expected this! Glad its confirmed.

I am so happy right now. Saw the post on twitter and went crazy. After faulty eMMC's, locked bootloaders and no updates, i was thinking of going samsung next time. Not gonna happen.

Seems a long way off, but like you say, better late than never
I'm sure there will be a leaked ROM for the us, DHD, IS, XL, and it could be easily ported
THing is, it won't ship with Sense 4.0, but instead 3.6
Bit sad....
It's kind of like the original Desire upgrade. It got the Gingerbread update, but HTC chose not to update the Sense version to 2.1.. THey kept the old version (Maybe because of internal memory issues?)
THat was kind of a rubbish update IMO.
Hopefully our update turns out to be good!
We really don't need to care of Sense 3.6 or 4.0. Even the update isn't important. What's important is the kernel 3.0 that will accompany it, and it's source. After that, a Sense 4 port should be easy. It'll be just like what we have now - official Sense 3 and ported Sense 3.5, both on Android 2.3.5
Maybe we get lucky and get Sense 4 right away, who knows. All i know is, HTC won my loyalty with this.

Yeah
Thats the main reason I'm happy too
I have no intentions of using the official update itself. I'm just interested in getting the base for this ROM & the kernel source. From there devs can tweak the base (Lowveld ) And the ROM will be much better
Hopefully HTC still release a WVGA device that will come with Sense 4.0 (although it seems unlikely)
Because the ROM will need resizing the images etc, which is not a easy and perfect job.
Virtuous Unity was a great job by the team, they resized the Sensations qHD Sense to work on our device. But unfortunately it still had flaws, inconsistent size issues, & wasn't as fast as the WVGA version we have now...
Anyway, enough of my rambling, I'm really happy with HTC's decision! They are even supporting the DHD which is a 2 year old phone.
Seriously, that device is lucky! It went from 2.2 + Sense 2.0 > 2.3.3 + Sense 2.1 > 2.3.5 + Sense 3.0 > 4.0.X + Sense 3.6/4.0
2 major OS updates and 3 major Sense updates! Thats as good as Apple with their iPhone 3GS updates!
One thing i did notice, was they haven't announced any plans to upgrade the HTC Flyer to ICS...
I was considering buying one if it did get the update officially

i know it was already posted, but this is the first htc themselves have said on it rather than some random website.so this deserved its own thread
Crazy news. Keeping my desire s a tad longer then...
I also think this is great news, as I am not much for rooting and doing stuff to my phone. And better late than never.
BUT I think the main problem is that all the big phone producers have their own UIs on top of Android, meaning that we never get the updates OR really really late.
If they just would let google control updates, then all users would have ICS already on their phone regardless of brand and phone (overseeing old phones that cannot handle the new software).
I know that the big companies need to differentiate themselves from each other.. but still, just what I would prefer.
Waiting for HTC Sense on ICS
I dont know about you guys but I am pretty happy with HTC Sense and would love to have an ICS rom with Sense. Will wait for the update from HTC to try out ICS on my Desire S.
I just got a good reason to keep my desire s for another 6 months.
That guy who came out earlier and say he believes all the phones running gingerbread should be able to run ICS was right after all.

Absolutely not relevant
Sent by my fingers to your head.
Actually, this was relevant, but a month ago. Now, everything you will see about the update in the General section will be re-posts or "information leaks on ETAs" from highly unreliable sources. The update is close, it'll be here in April and as soon as it comes, there will be a post with a download link in the DEV section

There are no leaks - so I fear that the update is far away.
in former times the ROMs always "leaked" (aka ROM for beta testers) 1 month before the official releases...

HTC Sensation/XE users, if you wants to have a look at the Sense 4.0 ROM leak from HTC Endeavour (RUU), please try this ROM by TripNRaVeR HERE. But its wayy to buggy! Definitely not a daily driver, but amazing work by the Dev!
Watch the Video of the ROM linked above, HERE
HTC haven't confirmed what phone will get ICS and when!
So far, HTC Sensation/XE, HTC Evo 3D, and a few others have been confirmed.
No idea about the HTC Evo 4g, HTC Desire HD and Droid Incredible!
Thought, the new line of HTC phone from 2011 will get ICS by the end of Q3!
- BE SURE TO HIT THANKS!
More updates coming.
Intersting... Thank u
Let me summarize Sense 4.0 for those who arent sure. As you can see from the post above HTC has added even more useless "features" into the next release of Sense. It will be even more bloated, take up far more memory, and suck your battery dry faster than ever! In addition it will have lots a stupid animations that will enable you to impress little children. The worst part of it will be that Sense 4.0 will negate most of the benefits of pure ICS by layering on hot steamy piles of horse sh*t! The good news is that with Google requiring all future Android phones meet a certain standard, we will see less and less of these "enhancements" being added by manufactures and carriers. This will help stop the fracturing of Android and make it easier for developers to make apps that work across the entire platform. In addition, now that Google owns the division of Motorola that makes Android phones we will soon have a number of proper Android devices to choose from. People looking for pointless "features" and "eye candy" will still be able to get their fix of course; except going forward it will come with piece of fruit on the back of the device.

That's so true! Sense 4.0 is gonna be a 500+ MB update.
The problem is, they add more and more, keeps stacking. Which makes it bloated..
They should start over again. Its just MENU AFTER MENU AFTER MENU!
Anybody on here got it yet? @CalCi059 not trying to start a war but how do you know it has been released yet? <----- im not saying it hasnt been released would just like to know how you found out

They dont need to start over, they need to hit DELETE and stop producing garbage like Sense. They should focus on producing solid hardware like they used to, and rely on the STANDARD ICS build developed by Google. a 500mb updated??? Jesus Tap Dancing Christ thats a whole lotta crap!

Ermm...source for Sense 4.0 preview? Android 4.x surely?
As far as I'm aware the preview is for Sense 3.5(6?) and will only be open to selected (or more likely those who have an Sensation/XE) members of the Elevate program or HTC Developers in Europe.
Though I'd be quite happy to receive Sense 4.0 ahead of the One X!
Yeah, we already know about this. It's NOT Sense 4.0 but at some point in the next week a few in the HTC Elevate programme will get to receive the ICS OTA. It's NOT started yet

They're gonna talk about Sense 4.0 in MWC, Barcelona. But, they are rolling out ICS + Sense 4.0 to those lucky 100, just a beta test of the ROM.

If you read the other thread on here HTC's PR has said the Sensation won't get Sense 4.0 yet. And it's more like 300 users who are in the HTC Elevate programme

You're misinterpreting and twisting news , I can give you credit for that.
BUT
There was no official announcement from HTC that we will get Snese 4.0 , Questions asked to HTC via Twitter and Facebook regarding 4.0 were ignored.
Yes they gonna talk about Sense at MWC but that doesn't mean it will come to Sensation , most likely its for Ville and Endeavor only. Maybe we will get it this fall.
I'm too lazy to search for sources for my arguments but they here on XDA
p.s. Next time please use search before posting, try to avoid MUST READ text in your titles and dont beg for "Thanks"

I bought my sensation XE in December as I was told that it would be one of the first HTC handsets to get ICS, then earlier this year we were told we can't have sense 4 as our sensations cant handle it, now today they release this sack of **** on facebook! 600mhz processor! The same as last years unfulfilling HTC Explorer running Sense 4!
This is the last time I buy HTC, any thoughts anyone? Who is with me, and who is willing to just roll on their backs and wait for HTC's next disappointing release?
[/Rant]
is the same
i think is going to be same for all android devices...is like galaxy SII wont get S3 new features too....
totally ****
Now now, settle down.
Having tried a few of the sense 4 ROM's available, I'm more than happy with the tried and tested 3.6.
As a self confessed flashaholic, I agree that another update would be cool but seriously, is there anything wrong with your current software?
I have a feeling it's a very watered down version of Sense 4 probably just has the Lock Screen, Social Integration and a few other things.
IMO, I still do think we will get Sense 4 sometime this year if previous HTC phones are anything to judge by.
Also, HTC only promised ICS and we got it quite promptly albeit with Sense 3.6.
I'll probably still be open to buying HTC devices so long as the hardware is good and I can root it and flash a custom ROM.

I'm with you we don't need HTC we got the best devs out there I been on sense 4.0 for so long you guys worry about them releasing it LOL its already out
Nothing wronge with 3.6 but if you want 4.0 go get it if 4.5 comes the devs will get that too untill this phone is dead

Exactly. The Sensation is awesome anyway and with the work that all our excellent developers put in, it just makes it even better.
Raging for what? Just calm down and get your facts right.
This is how marketing works. Every smartphone maker does this thing with their software, thats how they actually live, buying their products every year, or maximum 2. You get a phone that lasts 1-2 years in software date terms. Thats why u got android, to count on developers not OEM's.
This is the last time I buy HTC, any thoughts anyone? Who is with me, and who is willing to just roll on their backs and wait for HTC's next disappointing release?
What is this? A girl waiting for her mommy to get candy? ? Go buy yourself one if u cant wait.
