Buying Advice Requested From Those Who Are Smarter Than Me - General Questions and Answers

At the end of the summer, I'm hoping to buy a new HTC phone. I don't have a data plan (I rely on Wi-Fi), so it doesn't matter if it has European or American 3G frequencies, I just need it to work with AT&T (GSM).
I was hoping to get one of the following:
HTC Touch 3G (cheapest)
HTC Touch Diamond2 (sexiest)
HTC Touch HD (biggest)
I have an LG Incite, and I'm hoping to upgrade to a quality phone. I can barely stand this POS. Spocky, his ROM developments, and this forum are really the only reasons I can even use it. I would really prefer the HTC Touch HD because I want a large phone due to my large stature, and I want the Touch 3G because I'd prefer not to spend too much. And the Touch Diamond2 is just hot.
Any and all suggestions are welcome, even if they're not on the list.

I´m not sure I´m smarter than you, but I would say go for Diamond 2!

Well, rumor has it (and by rumor I mean official documentation) that the Diamond2 is coming to AT&T, so that could be a win.

Yes I heard that, also TP2 will come to that provider

I would probably prefer that, actually, as I'm all for hard keyboards. Though it currently costs an arm and a leg.
Probably two legs now, seeing as how the value of most currencies are decreasing right now, including limbs.

HTC Touch Diamond 2 ... the 3.5 adapter is basically the only con....

That's really why I want the Touch HD.
With the death of my Zune (I think it got kicked in the chest by Charlie Murphy), my phone has been my main MP3 player. And I could never lose my Zune Premium headphones.

What is the absolute best WM touch phone available?

I know this sounds like a very open and subjective question, and sorry for that, but I make enough money that really cost is not an issue for me. As such, while I am dreadfully happy with my XV6800, I am left wondering what I could be missing.
I have looked at the HTC Touch HD, new Omnia Touch, Touch Pro, Diamond, etc. But there are so many choices that I would like to solicit a little aid.
Here are my criteria:
1. Money is no object.
2. Any major US carrier is fine.
3. Touch screen absolutely necessary.
4. Hard Keyboard helpful but not 100% required.
Is there some WM phone out there that just has everything someone could want even at a huge pricetag? Some monster with Wifi, VGA screen, loads of RAM, 3G, and a 5+ mp camera?
Thanks in advance,
Devin
Well by looking at your criteria, I think your best bet would be a Touch HD. You can easily import one that'll work on any GSM network and it has a HUGE screen, although it does have a weird resolution, and the camera is said to be a 5MP.
touch hd is good but i don't think it is available in the us. try the touch pro aka diamond.
it is available through att as the fuze. (sprint also has a touch pro i just like gsm networks better)
Is there a somewhat easy and non-technical way to get an unlocked and imported Touch HD to work with Verison or Sprint in the US?

I thought the Touch Tro and the Diamond were two different phones? The Touch Pro has a hardware keyboard no?

Nope. The Touch HD is a GSM device, while Verizon and Sprint run on CDMA. Two different technologies.

This is true. I'd go with the touch pro (Raphael) if you want a hardware keyboard at the cost of the device being slightly thicker, but the diamond is nice as well (I've used both but only own the pro, and in my opinion I like the pro slightly more.)

Hope it helps,
1. Ditch Sprint and Verizon immediately if you want a good phone
2. Order the unlocked Touch HD from Handtec ($700 delivered to your door)
3. Put in your ATT simcard with unlimited data package
4. Enjoy

HTC says Touch Pro2 will be "broadly available," North America "

http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/22/htc-says-touch-pro2-to-be-broadly-available-north-america-inc/
This really good news after the big disappointing of HD. However, the next question is, how much is going to be from AT&T with contract?? because they going to bring it for sure.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2341160,00.asp
hopefully its not over $400 from AT&T with contract or up grade, Also, big hope they not going play with the keyboard and make it ugly like Tytn 2 and FUZE. This one looks really good and easy to type and much faster.

What i should buy?

Hi all..
again this very same question..
my first PPC was a QTEK 9090 (from audiovox), it was so fast and reliable that i have fallen in love with it, but its only CDMA and i needed GSM, so i decided to move on and upgrade to one more complete, the HP hw6945 (AKA Htc Sable), and i'm so disappointed with it.. its freacking slow, it hangs all the time, and now out of the sudden it stopped working.. the complete opposite from the QTEK....so, i'm going to buy a new one, this time, with more research .. and i hope to have more good times with this new one..
what i'm looking foward is a good sized screen, fast cpu, gps, reliability!!.
so, what u guys recomend to me?
i have seen some on the net..

Depends on Carrier.. You said GSM So its either ATT or TMO
If TMO Get the new MyTouch
if ATT Get a HTC Branded Magic
There basically the same phone except that the Magic branded device has more ram & will work on ATT 3g Instead of TMO 3g.. & Although I would like the extra ram its not worth giving up 3g since I am a tmo Cust..
& If android isnt your cup of tea then get the Touch Pro or Diamond (or the #2 versions of each, but I am not a fan of the new styling & love the pocketability (is that a word) of the original diamond).

Neither.. I assumed you were in the US.. Whatever carrier you get should use the Same bands as AT&T though so my recomendation for them follows.. Also the hero is a solid device with identical specs but doesn't have the trackball.. Personally I like the Magic styling better..
If you can hold out for a bit, I suggest you wait another 3-4 months. Right now, most of the phones that you will see are ~528 mhz. By the end of this year, the SnapDragon chipset will come out (1 GHZ). Mostly all the phones mentioned above are all 528. If you can wait a little longer, you can get double the speed for ~$200 extra.

Would anyone trade a Touch HD for a Tilt 2?
I'm not looking for a trade, just wondering.

If someone offered a Tilt2 for a Touch HD it would be his or her dream come true.
There is nothing on the Touch HD that is better than the Tilt2...
The only thing that the Touch HD has compared to the Tilt2 is the damn 3.5 mm headphone jack. Are you serious about the trade? Cause your question doesn't make sense.
So of course someone would trade (give) his Touch HD for a Tilt2.
Is your sentence wrong? Because if it is then this would seem to be a more plausible question: Would anyone trade his Tilt2 for my Touch HD?
The answer would be hell no. Unless the Tilt2 was heavily used, full of scratches and has hardware/software issues, no one will want to exchange it for a Touch HD.
Well I know only diff is that the Tilt gets Att 3G, the button QWERTY, and doesn't have a 3.5mm.
I really like listening to music and I use my phone as an Mp3 player because I dont want to carry a phone and a Zune.
I want the 3.5mm headset jack and don't mind the lack of a keyboard. I was just wondering If I did get the Tilt2 if It would be crazy to try to trade it for a Touch HD.
Thing is I'd have to get a dataplan to get the Tilt 2 to trade for the HD and then I'd have a touch HD that can't use the dataplan I'd now have.
I already have the Incite which has WinMo 6.5 and a 3.5mm, So I guess I'd still use the dataplan when I have my sim in the Incite.
So The question is do I want to stick with the Incite and it's Wifi
or
Do I get a dataplan and a tilt 2 that I trade for a Touch HD and only use the dataplan when the Sim is in the Incite.
Or I do as above but give the dataplan to my brother's phone and Just have a Incite and a Touch HD both with just Wifi.
Too bad I cant get the HD2... XD Because while it's hard to decide how badly I want the Touch HD over the Incite, the only real difference is that the Touch HD has a bigger screen.
If I had the choice to get the HD2 over the Incite it'd be a no brainer. The HD has the Snapdragon, more RAM, more internal ROM, a bigger screen that is capacitive. I dont even mind it doesn't get at&t 3G.

If you don't flash your phone then you are stuck with a phone with older software. Also, the finger friendly Windows Mobile 6.5.3 is probably not officially supported by HTC on your HTC Touch HD, so you probably will need to flash it on your own.
And trading a Tilt2 for that would be freaking crazy.
I'd like you to know that the HTC Touch Pro2 has the one of the best keyboard around, I mean it's better than any blackberry, better than my Nokia E90, better than any android phone so far, and better than a touch screen keyboard, of course better than Palm, etc!!!!!!!!
If anything, trade it for a Nokia N900. Though, not windows mobile, it's processor is faster than the HTC Touch HD, meaning less likely to have skippy music or delay during music playback. Furtheremore, the N900 speaker is just as good as the N95, and most people who know about phones can verify that the N95 speakers are not only very loud, but very high sound quality, and you get two speakers like on a laptop. And it has a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The Tilt2 also has tilting screen, so you can watch videos while working on a table, which is kinda geeky but whatever.
Tilt2 also requires a data plan if you get it on ATT. So why would you pay for data plan just to use a phone that doesn't support the data plan. Isn't that stupid? And if you are going to buy a Tilt2 on eBay or something, just buy a Touch HD so you don't go through with the trade.

The HTC Touch HD does not have a snapdragon, has less RAM, and less ROM, and it is resistive.
The HTC Touch HD2 has a snapdragon, more RAM, and more ROM, and it is capacitive.
Thanks for confusing me. Next time, pay attention to the series number, and report the right number, or you will get different answers.
For the Touch HD2 yeah the swap seems plausible, if you do it now, you might get a swap, but I suggest keeping your Tilt2 unopened and 100% brand new. Do not peel any stickers or anything. If you have to get your hands on it use latex gloves, but do not peel the sticker on screen.
Next, you have to swap it with someone with a used HD2 who really abhors his HD2. But soon, the HD2 for T-Mobile will come out, and it will be impossible for you to find someone to swap an HD2 because it has become more valuable for the Americans, and they wouldn't want to swap you. Why? Well because the ones with the European Touch HD2 are going to get the American version for T-Mobile. So right now there will be people more willing to trade it for a brand new Tilt2.
Or, if you are smart, just go month to month with ATT until the T-Mobile HD2 comes out. I heard that month to month on ATT doesn't charge you more, it just means you can cancel anytime or renew a contract for a brand new phone.
But when the T-Mobile HD2 comes out, transfer your phone number to T-Mobile and sign a contract with T-Mobile for an HD2 with a data plan that you actually use.
BTW...I think that swapping it will be very hard, and what you are doing is crazy, and I knew it when you said that you "weren't looking for a trade" you were actually looking for a trade, cause obviously if someone wanted to trade you would trade.

Sorry about that, it was a typo, the HD you bolded I meant to type HD2.
The point of this thread was just to find out if I got the Tilt 2 if I could trade it for a Touch HD because I really want that 3.5mm. But you're probably right because the Touch HD cant use the dataplan I should probably just keep my Incite, But If I could trade a Tilt 2 for an HD2 then I'd probably get the Tilt 2 and do what I said about just using the dataplan I'd now have on the Incite every once in a while or put it on my brother's phone since I bet he'd like that.

Are you considering switching to T-Mobile for the upcoming HD2?
well I'm currently on my dad's family plan so I'm not sure, plus I dont know how much the HD2 will cost even with new contract so I'm not too sure about that.
The problems with getting a contract with T-mobile is that Calls between my family and my best friend and I wouldn't be free. Plus I'd have to get the T-mobile dataplan which I dont really want especially because it's not as good at at&t's

Well the HTC Leo costs 800 dollars.
The ATT Tilt2 costs 500 dollars.
The HTC Blackstone costs 500 dollars and if you are lucky may cost around 300-400 dollars.
Tilt2 trade for Blackstone is a guarantee.
HTC Leo trade for a Tilt2 is almost impossible.
Not me, as hardware keyboard is a must.
Even if Leo has better specs...I prefer Rhodium!
I'd be willing to get and trade a tilt2 for a HD2... question is should I get the Tilt 2 and try?

You can try. It's not that I think it's a bad idea what you are doing, but it's that it's really hard. I wouldn't do it because the HD2 is a league higher than the Tilt2, and it's hard to get someone to trade his HD2 for the Tilt2.
to me the HD screen and integrated buttons are much more appealing while the Tilt 2 is really just the next generation of a long line of HTC phones. Now that the HD2 is out, I think the Tilt 2 has lost some luster and this wouldn't be such a one sided trade anymore. I may even consider it, lol.

[Q] Buy the new Ipod or the HTC Desire (HD)?

Hi,
I'm currently using my HTC Touch HD/Blackstone for calling ,listening to music , read the news and much more things. I tried several roms for it ,but I still think it's a slow device and can't be used as a multimedia device without getting irritated of the speed of the device.
So I thought about buying the new Ipod or a HTC Desire (maybe the HTC Desire HD). If I would buy the new Ipod ,I would only use my HTC Touch HD only for making calls and sending text messages. And use the Ipod (32GB version) to listen to music, watch movies, download apps and filming in HD.
And If I would buy the HTC Desire (HD) I would use it as a replacement for my HTC Touch HD and use as a phone and all the things I would you the Ipod for.
So now the main question is: Which one should I pick?
Sorry for my bad English
go for desire!!!!!
same as above, desire!
htcccccc .....
but i have q ... do u rly find the HD slow ? go and use HD2 its so fast it comes with 1 GHz processor so u wont find any problem with the speed thing .... leave apple ... lol apple hater here hahaha
Definetely go with the Desire HD, why have two devices when you can do it all with one?
+1 for the Desire!
You can do it all with one device and better than you would do it with the ipod. You just have to wait a little. You could always sell your Blackstone or use it as a replacement phone!
So,Desire 5-iPod 0.Go on!
Okay I guess I will buy the Desire (HD) ,but there is only 1 problem. The price: The new Ipod is 300 euro and the Desire is 420 euro (in the Netherlands) . I didn't expect the price to be so high of the desire ,because some months have past since it came out. Any alternatives?
It's easy. If you want high quality games, go for the iPod. Otherwise, if you don't want to play at all, go for the Desire.
Apple has a lot of great apps, so if you're going to buy games apps and the sort, go for the iPod Touch, if you're going for them all in one (sort of a jack of all trades, so the apps games wont be as good as the iPod Touch's), get the HTC Desire.

Yeah, which is good. Apple does need some competition in the app department when it comes to phones.
