1st I just want to say how great this site is!
This may be a stupid questions, but I've tried searching for a definitive answer on XDA and can't find one.
I have an VZW Omnia i910, I'm using SPB MS3 with the skin pack from http://www.imarche.net/omnia/index.php, but I would like to load some themes/skins that are available thru XDA that I found in this thread. I'm not sure where to put the .dat files that accompany the .cab files?
This is the folder structure I have
My Device >> My Storage >> SpbMobileShell3.0 >> SpbMobileShellSkins with the folders Commons, Original, Scripts, WQVGA. Do I put them in one of those folders?
No one?
Have u installed the mortscript itself? It would be easier to customize SpbMS skin after installing mortscript

I have different folder structure from yours but u're right that the .dat files should be placed inside there
sorry for my bad english, HTH
Thanks for the reply.
I use the MortScript that came with this. So I should put the new skins/themes in the same folder as the MortScript file?
No, not in the same folder as the mortscript file
I also use the mortscript from imarche site. In my nike, i dont have to copy and paste the .dat files to Program Files>>Spb Mobile Shell 3 folder, simply go to:
Tools >> Spb Skin 4.0, and there u can customize background, buttons, weather images, etc. But of course for another skins without mortscript, u have to copy and paste the .dat files to Program Files>>Spb Mobile Shell 3 folder (manually)
*PS:back up your original files before customizing it
Thanks again....I will try that.
PROBLEM
Hi, I have a Touch Viva with SPB MS 3 and the skins imarche but I can't see the complete icon of weater in a page

What you'll need:
CAB editor, such as OCP WinCE CAB Manager
Madkat's WM2k3 Boot Image Tool (attached)
Adobe Photoshop or other image editor
a compatible HTC device such as the Magician or Blue Angel
Summary:
Customized SplashX.nb files to be installed in \Windows directory of your device
Included:
Customizable Splash2.psd file for use with Adobe Photoshop
Steps:
1. Change the Splash2.psd file as necessary, then save a 24-bit BMP file called Splash2.bmp.
2. Use Madkat's Tool to convert the BMP file to an NB file.
3. Use the CAB editor to replace the Splash2.nb file with your version. WinCE CAB Manager may state an "Unspecified Error" when replacing the file. Instead, delete the original file, then drag the new NB file into the CAB file, hardcoding the \Windows folder as the install destination.
4. Save the CAB file and run it on your device!
Magician devices have only one splash screen, and it must be saved as Splash2.nb.
Blue Angel devices have two splash screens, Splash1.nb and Splash2.nb. Use the above steps to incorporate both splash screens as necessary.
Splash screens will be retained even after a hard reset, so use this after the Anansky's Big Storage hack, or if you just want to personalize your device, such as in the unfortunate event that it's lost or stolen - unless they know this trick, they won't be able to get rid of it!
Have fun!
Thanks mate works like a dream!!
Maybe it's just me, but I've read this post here and at Howardforums and I'm clearly missing something.
I've only ever used the nb_image_converter_859_418.exe to convert "any" bmp to the Splash2.NB file.
Then I drop that into my Windows Folder and use MDA3_bootimage_changer2.cab to apply the file. (Yes I'm using a Magician with this file!)
Soft reset and that's that. No need to do any cab file editing.
Cheers
Howard
PS. I've have both tools on my pc and can repost them, but they are from this site!

If you don't like Bill's Stuff...
I wonder if anyone can put some help my way.....
I used the xda2 image changer before and I had custom images on my XDA2.
I use this and all I get is a black screen on startup. If I open the .nb file with the converter it shows as it should. (this same .nb works on my XDA2!)
I now have a plain black boot up screen!!
DOH!!!!
Any ideas......?
THanks
First i had the t-mobile splash... wich i didn't like.
Now, whatever bootsplash cab i make, or download here.. after running it, my bootscreen stays blank ( as in black ).
oh well... its an improvement over t-mobile pink
( or is it because i'm running an ancient rom : 1.01.00 WWE ?, only have the device for 3 days... will be upgrading this weekend tho )
Here are my 2 favourites Splashscreens.
The blue one ist for the silver Magician, the darker one is for the new O2 XDA mini (black edition).
Hi I've editted the o2 logo here's the jpg file
I tried to upload the psd so you can edit it but it doesn't work, to bad!

I saw this before, but I have just tried it... and it is really cool 8) ... it gives the device a whole new look...

My way to splash changer.
Hi,
I thanks to BTT for Splash Changer how to. But it is troublesome to everytime run WinCE cab manager in order to put Splash2.nb to the .cab file.
I try to remove Splash2.nb from the .cab file (and renamed the .cab to splash_changer.cab). Afterthat, put the Splash2.nb manually to \windows on PPC. Voila....., no need to everytime run WinCE cab manager!!!!!
Process:
1. Edit .bmp file to your like (Must be 240x320 pixels, 24bit).
2. Use nb_image_converter_859_418 to convert .bmp file to .nb, and change the .nb file to Splash2.nb.
3. Put Splash2.nb file directly to your \windows on PPC. You can do activesync and explore it.
4. Put splash_changer.cab to \temp for you to easier found it.
5. Run file explorer on PPC, and tap on splash_changer.cab.
6. Done! You can check by soft reset the PPC.
Hope it is helpful!

Arto.

hi all, I'm using icon_viewer to search a "screen" icon but I don't know where search, in wich .dll or .exe I could find icons under windows mobile 5? thanks!
Hi xalien!
I am not 100% sure but it should be in coredll.dll or shellres.dll which are the two main system DLLs.
I don't find this 2 files, I search it in \windows folder...
Ok, clarification:
These files are part of ROM. You can't see them form file explorer, but they are there.
To work with them, you need a ROM dump. Just search this site and the FTP. All the tools you need are here.
I recommend TestWM5.exe by mamiac. It extracts files directly, not ROM image you have to decode.
ok. but i only search an icon, it exists a mapping of this dll that show icons contained?
Not really sure what you mean, but if you don't want to mess around with extracting the files try this:
If you have EVC or Studio 2005 installed, you will have a tool called 'Remote zoomin'. In EVC it's in the tools menu and in 2005 it's in the remote tools folder of start menu. This app lets you view the device screen on your PC and save it as bitmap. You can just get a screen shot of what you want and paste it in to an icon resource.
I have a cab with the following extentions
_setup.xml
JETBTC~1.001
JETBTH~1.000
JetBTHFix.002
JetBTHFix.999
I added the .dsm & .rgu files
I edited the _setup.xml file to redirect the Shortcut to a different folder.
Is that all I need to do?
Will it work puting it into an OEM folder now?
Can I remake it back into a cab file? (How do I make a cab file)
Thank you
You can't open a cab with a simple unzip program (which appears what you have done). You have to use a program that can pull a cab apart. In HyperCore there is a free utility that will do this (sorry, not on my computer with a kitchen so I don't remember what its called, but its in the tools and/or panel area of HyperCore). You can use Cabwuz (demo version) to see what I mean also.
MSCEinf
Its a tool called MSCEInf.exe, Windows CE CAB Analyser. It opens up Windows Mobile .CAB files and creates the original files and installation options (registry changes, shortcut creation etc).

Andy
Ok I got the program up and running, but not sure how to use it. There seems to be no help files.
Anyone know how to use this. Can you give me a quick run though.
All that MSCEInf.exe does is extract the original files and settings from the .CAB file. What you should do is extract the files to a folder, then if the XML button is available click it and then look at the Registry Keys and Shortcuts tabs to see what shortcuts you need to create and what settings you need to add to the .RGU file. If the XML button isn't available then click the 'RTF Document' tab, this contains all the settings but is a bit harder to cut-&-paste from.
It is probably a good idea to look at on existing OEM package to see what files are included, what the shortcuts look like and what the .RGU file looks like.
HTH
Andy
Little more help.
Ok need a little help still.
This is what I have done.
1) created a folder with in the OEM folder called JETBT
2) Opened Msceinf
3) Loaded my cab file
4) Changed "Use Folder Name" to NO
5) Pressed "Extract Cab files with original names to a folder"
6) Extracted them to the JETBT folder I credated.
Now this is where I am at.
I have the following 5 files.
_setup.xml
BT HFP Extension 1.31.inf
JetBTConfig.exe
JetBTHFx.999
JetBTHFx.dll
I know I need to create a .dsm and .rgu file
the .rgu file is where I add reg entries
I also know I need to make a inirflashfile.dat
which is where I have it move the .ink file.
First how do I make a .ink file.
Then is this all I need to do?
Does the OEM folder us the info inside _setup.xml ?
If it does can I simply edit that file. Inside I see where it makes and moves the .ink file
And where it adds the reg info.
I could simply just add the info into that file.
and then create empty .dsm and .rgu files.
So what do I need to do? Am I missing any steps.
there are other cabs I need to edit aswell.
Thanks for your help.
? Anyone? PLEASE

install a clean rom, or customize your own. the windows directory is going to be a little large regardless, the operating system is there..
what is the normal size of windows folder
any how can i customize my room to remove and add new applications
That's basically what got this community started... just about everyone here can testify to having looked into ROM Cooking... please research before asking how to do it, because I PROMISE there's a thread or two out there about it
Clean windows folder possible ?
I'm trying to cook my own rom but when I add an EXT module, all files are in Windows directory and the app.dat file only copy them in the app directory.
So is it realy possible to have a clean windows directory, how to put files directly in app folder? must I use an OEM module with initflashfile or ???
thanks all

All files go into \windows. The first thing you need to ask is this: do I need to copy the file into another directory, like \program files? A lot of apps work just fine if you leave all of the files in \windows. The files are going to be in \windows in one form or another, so you save space by just running the app out of \windows. You need to change shortcut paths and sometimes registry key paths to get this to work, but in my experience, it works about 95% of the time. Usually, if you've got a multi-component application (several files besides just the .exe), the .exe will search for other files it needs to run in the same directory that the .exe is located in, so you're good to go if everything is in \windows. Some apps have sub-folders, so you'll have to get that folder and its contents into \windows. The best way to do this is with a .cab file or a zip file during customization (using a mortscript for the latter). Zip files are nice, because they install really quickly and are easy to make and edit.
Anyway, if you need to get files into another directory for whatever reason, I'd say that the app.dat method is probably the worst, because if you have multiple files, then you increase the file count in \windows by that amount. Put them in a zip file or a cab file, and then you'll reduce the file count to 1 for the particular package. You will also compress the files, and save some rom storage space.
You can also look into \extendir for another method to clean up the \windows directory.
You do need to be careful with some apps if they have an .ini file or an .xml file or something similar that is basically a settings file. It's usually better if these files aren't read only, so you may need to figure a way to copy the file into the \windows directory.
What is the fastes way to copy files from WINDOWS-folder from my Phone to my laptop?
Cause when I try to open the Windows dir it takes ages to read it out.
Also when I try to copy multiple files I get an Error, but not if I copy one file
The other question is:
In what manilla file are the graphics located for Sense (Cookies Home tab installed)
Is there a list available?
Thanks
Fastest way is for me doing a full Backup with SPB Backup and then read this Backup on PC with the provided SPB Backup Explorer.
Maybe,

It depends on what you will sir; if you will changed some graphics (manilla file) you can used cfc_GUI; its a free prog. and its useful and simple.
you can find a way fore download; and how to use by taking a look on a friend's wonderful thread fore that.
"°°how to figure out wich manila file is for what°°"
Using together with M9Editor, helps you a lot more.
But like I mentioned; it depends on what you will do.
