Hi all !
My problem is that on HTC Touch HD the incoming calls are identified by numbers not names of contacts I have in the phone. It's useless as I have almost a 1000 contacts and obviously can't recognize them by phone numbers. I am using Pocket Informant - could this have something to do with the problem ? Also, Touch HD is my 4th HTC device and I have never had this problem before. I hope someone can help me with that. Please !!
Silly question but does the displayed number match an entry in your address book or has there been a change of number format somewhere, not necessarily you either.
Contacts vs numbers
Yes, there is a difference. Numbers I input in the contacts usually look like like this, eg.: +48 678 3423, whereas display on the phone in this case looks like this: +486783423. I also have to add I use Pocket Informant. I never had this with other HTC devices such as Touch Cruise I had before.

Never used Pocket Informant so can't pass comment on whether it is doing anything weird or not.
Spaces in numbers shouldn't make a diference, they don't on my Trinity. Never used Pocket Informant so can't pass comment on whether it is doing anything weird or not.

Dear Vijay,
Can we file two mobile nos for a single contact? assume that all other fields viz home1.2, Work1.2 etc are already occupied
hdubli - if all available number fields are full, then not easily. If you need that many telephone numbers, you could write a custom plugin or app that would store a string of telephone numbers in a text string with a seperator, eg:
+44 7870 XXX | +359 12345 | +69 546
etc. Then, save that text string in a relatively unused number or text field (eg Home Fax?) in Pocket Outlook, and have your custom plugin present an interface to choose which number from the string to dial/select, eg dial second number in the list. Your app would then parse out the second number from the list.
That would work and be relatively operating system consistent. But, it would have to be a custom written app.

Thanks for the reply,
Is it possible that I store the Phone nos with the sepertors as informed above and dial from contacts? You know any app else can u make such app...I am not good in coding as u are..
hdubli - I've never seen an app that can do it, and a custom plugin would have to be written to dial from contacts in this way.
I could possibly write it, but it would take time I don't have right now - do you really have that many phone numbers to store per contact?
If you've hit the limit (9 phone numbers per contact I think), try saving the contact twice, eg
Vijay (1) with 9 contact numbers
Vijay (2) with another 9 contact numbers = 18
It's not perfect, but it's easier for me

That's right...Just tell me can we add a custom field in the Outlook so that when we sync it adds that field in our device...
So this important 'FileAs' omission has been a problem for about 2.5 years, yet MS still haven't had the time to fix it? I am impressed
Yup, fileas is a pain in the ass, as with many of the problems with Windows Mobile and Smartphone: however, I guess we basically have to live with the problems. I lose count of how many bugs have never been fixed.
Oh, hdubli sorry for the slow response. As far as I know, we can't add custom Pocket Outlook fields.

It's so a shame that more 4 years have passed and there's no solution for this yet that I had to ressurrect this old, old thread.
Now in WM 6.1 there's still no default setting for 'File as' contacts. Plus I also have to complain about how WM phones display area codes.
It annoys me a lot because all these default settings seem to be made for U.S., but in most other places we choose to remember the first name and not the family name of our friends, and also 3-digit area codes don't apply.
This will fix them all at once... found it floating around
finally
works great!! (may need restart)
install
programs >> contact fix
set it as you like
done
BIG thanks (searched for a way to resolve this problem, weeks)

The |last name, first name| filing was probably used for business purposes. You would have many contacts that are not necessarily your friends and you would look them up by last name.
Would be nice to change it...
OK so WM3 you could do a 'select all' in the contacts list by dragging the stylus before doing a bluetooth beam to send them all to another device.
WM6 you have to do them one at a time. Not only that but it has to do a bluetooth search to locate the other device each time which takes about 20 seconds.
Jeez looks like I'm in for a fun few hours.
Thanks WM guys
You will also notice that it was easy to add multiple contacts in SMS To field. Not so in WM6. Am I right?
Regards,
Carty..
Thats why....
Its always better to copy them to sim card! If you have one...that is. It makes things a lot easier!
It seems that in WM6 certain bluetooth headsets cannot be used. I personally experienced when upgraded my HTC3350 to a WM6 ROM and now my bluetooth headset is not working.
One phone is 3G (with 3G sim) the other is not.
Also sim contacts lose addresses and split contacts into 2 if there are 2 numbers on one contact.
Can't use Outlook on my PC as a transfer mechanism as it has a different contact list.
Jeez when are they going to come up with a simple XML or CSV export format for WM contact lists export/import.
Folk have been asking this for years!!!!!!!!!
Once upon a time, there was an MS customer who opened case with MS Premier Support regarding an issue with Contacts not being sent to the Car built-in BT HandsFree in the same format as they are displayed on the WM device.
It turned out that this is due to the BThAGPhonebook.dll which sends the name of the contact always in the form "FirstName MiddleName Lastname Suffix".
In opposite the contacts stored in MS outlook and synchronized to Pocket Contacts are displayed and sorted by FileAs field. Pretty often the customer has to use the Company attribute to differ the contacts of different people of the same name, but the company string is never sent to the HandsFree Contact list.
Because there is not exactly defined in the GSM AT command specification how the contact sent to the HF should look like and no one except this Customer never complained about it, it wasn’t accepted by MSPS as a bug but a feature request has been created.
The fact that the dialed numbers, missed and received calls is sent to the HF in the format of FileAs field, didn't matter to them.
For the customer it was very hard to accept that this is not a bug but a feature, he actually never admitted that, I wish there would be an alternative end of this story, but it is not, at least not yet.
What is your opinion?
1. It’s a bug which should be immediately fixed.
2. It’s a feature you would like to see in the future version of WM.
3. You don’t care.

tell me, what is wrong?
there is nobody using the car built-in bluetooth Handsfree?
Hi guys, my question might sound stupid as I'm new to windows mobile, but I can't seem to be able to find a way to insert more than 1 similar type of contact details under the same contact.
Say for eg I use 2 mobile numbers or 2 landline numbers, but when I try to save them under the same contact head I just get 1 option for each type of contact. Surprisingly I couldn't find any option to edit my own label as well. Any idea what could be done in this scenario???
Isn't there any solution to my question???
I face the same issue...
any suggestion?
Try put those numbers into other fields, such as "work2 tel", "home2 tel"... Some 3rd party softwares can do that but their fields are not compatible with MS Outlook on PC.
Well, thats not a solution, is it? Thats just ignoring an issue... I know I can save in other fields but if I try to transfer some contacts from my s60 where I have stored them properly then the 2nd entry gets deleted automatically, thats annoying & I dont even know how many of my contacts has already been messed up like that.... Pheww...!!!
Windows Mobile takes contacts as it is defined in MS Outlook. And by design Outlook takes only one contact Information. Theres no other solution.

Outlook supports 2 Business numbers, 2 Home numbers, 1 Mobile number plus a bunch of other numbers like Other and Company. Try adding your extra fields in Outlook and then sync to your phone, hopefully the extra numbers will appear in your contact record. Just use the drop-down selector in Outlook to pick the fields you want to view and fill them in.
Yeah that seems a good idea, will give that a try...
Hello,
Thank you to all amazing developers for the superb ROMs.
Background: I maintain my master contacts in Microsoft Outlook (which I now periodically sync with Gmail contacts). I had a windows based HTC P3450 phone earlier which could directly sync with Outlook. When using that phone, an incoming call used to give much more info about the contact in addition to name and phone number such as company name, title etc.
Not that I am a professional nerd with thousands of contacts, but I particularly found this feature very useful in that phone because I could tag my in-laws names with their cities because I could hardly ever remember their names.
All in all, when a call used to come from my aunt in law, it looked something like this
Mrs X Y Z
+1 123-123-1234
Location1, Honey's 2nd aunt

I havent tried all of the amazing ROMs here but was wondering how difficult it is for our magicians to either customize the incoming call screen or just hard code additional info fields. Just a food for thought.
P.S. : I'm currently running Cognition 5 v2
