I have been approached by a person on facebook that they sell brand new HTC 8925 tilt, unlocked with box and all of the accesories for a price of 150USD,
DO you think this is real(legitmate), or are they kind of like a scam??
Should I buy it or stay away from it?
Sounds like a scam. Only buy it if you can meet the buyer face to face or if he lets you pay after youve received it (not going to happen ).
that is literally too good to be true, maybe they even send it to you, it may still be stolen etc. and get blocked.
Sounds like it's HOT (stolen)! Be careful...
but will the phone work, if it is stolen?

Don't buy stolen stuff. 1. It's illegal in almost every country and 2. it is very risky. The thief or the owner can call the operator and block your IMEI whenever they feel like it and once a phone is blocked it's blocked.
so that means if I go to mexico or malbourne, I cant use the phone?
I will sell you a "new att tilt" for $75... just send the money western union to Romania and I will send it.
Dawg...if you meet and put your sim and it works get that $hit...they cant block $hit...its only a sim card...dont b stupid and send money and think your gonna get it cause your not........EVERYONES DOING IT

They can get the IMEI of the device blocked though...turning it into a fancy 150 buck paper weight.
Dont bother even giving this offer any thought.
Or there's a chance of a fancy little program running and sending the owner your new number, which will allow him to send the police your way... also works
ok, so what are the range of price I should buy for a 2nd hand att tilt?
If you buy it used get it locally from a live person or from ebay with buyer protection from paypal.
NEVER buy anything with wire transfers or Wester Union and such. They are ALL a scam, I guarantee it.
amazon now has the Tilt for $50 after rebates with a new service...

Bottom Line if it is stolen then it could have been stolen from one of our members. Don't support thieves! you can get a refurbished tilt for about $200.00 and that comes with a warranty. Do the right thing. and by the way! if it sounds to good to be true! It IS! IF it wasn't for greedy people then dishonest people would have no place to sell their wares.
Is the guy near you. I've bought stuff from people on Facebook before but I met them and checked the product before I gave any money. Got a 20" widescreen flatpanel tv for $150. Not a bad deal at the time.

I'm gonna have to agree this seems like a crock. I paid £424.80 without VAT at hantech.co.uk
Umm stay clear is my advice......with a "business email that is a yahoo email address. In the uk i always check for a VAT number, not sure if its the same over there, but there seems to be very little info about them......
What the hell is VAT? I see that on all the Europian sites. What exactly is it.

Value Added Tax. see the wiki description here.
VAT
Value Added Tax,
It's the equivalent of the State Sales Tax, however for the UK it's a massive 17.5% - OUCH
All sites in the UK show their registered VAT number, which is unique to that business. I purchased cheep software (MS Office) from a site once, didnt have a vat number, and the software turned out to be hacked.
The Real Deal Or Not!
Anybody know about this website, is it the real or not? uhhh! I think I will do some research on this website tomorrow............!
I call BS. If you think it's too good to be true, it probably is.
total BS! think about it.

In the Netherlands the legal thieves (government) take a humungous 19%
And they were even considering to raise it to 20%, but that had so much economic consequences that they didn't dare to do so.
But on-topic now: It has to be fake.
I bought the Raphael (HTC Touch Pro) for €602.= , est. £400,= or $870,=
That was almost the cheappest price possible in the netherlands.
So $450,= is almost 50% off, can't be legit.

Metrocellinc?
Well I was suprised too ...and I e-mailed them,so that's what I was told:
***************************************
ME: "I would like to buy Xperia X1, but before that I have a few questions:
First of all I would like to ask why are those cell phones so cheap and are they clones? Are they woking properly and can I use them to Europe?
Second how can you sell Xperia when the world premiere of that phone is in November?
How can I be sure that is secure? And what is the cost of delivery to Williamsburg VA? And how can I return it (if I'm not pleased) and have the full price back?"
Metrocellinc: "Thanks for your Inquiry.
We have the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 available in stock, Brand New, Unlocked, Factory Sealed and comes with a 1 year warranty.
You have been able to find phones at this price due to our Summer closeout sales (offer valid while stock last) We are Authorised sony dealers and we are currently on introductory sales into the market.
You will be getting a 3days return policy and a 1 year warranty. The X1 is compatible with any carrier anywhere in the world as it supports triband and quadband.
Delivery is $40
How many units do you intend to purchase?
We accept payments via Money Gram. Do you know where a Money Gram Agent is located?
Regards,
Jean."
Me: "Can I Pay with Visa?"
Metrocellinc: "At this time we are unable to accept payments via Credit Cards as we are currently facing problems with our credit card processor.
Money Gram is the only payment alternative."
*********************
Althought there's no note about that paying problem in their site!!!
Also...

This is a scam...like jodia I emailed them for validity. Never heard back after I told them COD only!
MetroCellInc:"Hi, Thanks for your Inquiry. We have the Htc Touch Pro available in stock, Brand New, Unlocked, Factory Sealed and comes with a 1 year warranty. For payments we can only accept Money Gram at this time as we are currently facing technical problems with our Credit Card processor.

Me:"Hi Jean, Unfortunately, our Company is not authorized to use Moneygram. We can only use MC, Paypal, or Cash On Delivery (COD). Since your MC Card processor is broke, you can mail it COD to complete this sale."
...so the last reply is:

Metrocellinc:
"At this time we can only accept payments via Money Gram. Below are the details needed to send funds via Money Gram:
Receiver's First Name: Emma
Receiver's Last Name: Depoe
Address: 20330 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Miami, Florida 33133

Once payment is sent, you are to send the Reference Number, Sender's Name and Address as it appears on the payment receipt for confirmation.
Regards,
Jean."
**************************
I don't feel secure about this!!!Although the prices are fantastic....
....again too good to be true
Hmmm heavily underpriced, Payment exclusivly MoneyGram? Definite Scam. This kind of thing is often all over ebay. Has anyone actually gone through with a transaction with this crowd and got anything?
If yer looking for a cheap Raphael take a look at the Raphael Vendor Wiki
I keep that up to date weekly and at this time the top 3 cheapest sellers are Tiga Dua Cellular in Indonesia for €497.43 , 2Call from Netherlands for €576.00 and DigiTec of Switzerland for €585.60.
The most expensive I've seen is €739.00 in Portugal by Fnac.
Anyways Head to the Vendor Wiki at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_Vendors
If you know any other retailers add them to the wiki
From http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=17890:
I was scammed by an electronics seller which offers iphone 3G, Nokia, and all phones of the moment. (they say they are located in the US but i´m not sure of this!)
DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM HIM !! THIS IS A BIG SCAM !!
the link :http://my-diversitydepotinc.com/
but also
http://www.cellphoneltd3g.com
and for sure other ones powered by e-yahoo which allows anyone to create a store on the internet. They also have a cart system...
Big scammer !!!
And of course, the money was send via Western Union to a certain :
Emma DEPOE
139 High Road
FL 32304 Tallahassee
My so called customer´s contact was: Patrick M. Peters.
Dont make the same mistake as i did and just be aware that companies which have an account by e-yahoo, even with a good looking site, may be a scam. Be sure not to pay with Western Union or unsecure ways.

Ok i just got a HTC Touch HD on contract with orange so i dont need my HTC Diamond anymore
I got it new from expansys 3 months ago and im going to put it on gumtree for sale, but before i do that i thought i would give people on this forum the opportunity to buy it.
Im selling it for £200 with box and everything.
So if you live in London and are willing to pick it from paddington let me know. I will put it one gumtree tonight for £220, so if you want it for £200, just reply in this thread. Thanx
Do you accept PayPal and willing to send it overseas to the United States? Also, what is the condition of the phone?
sorry mate, I would normally send it overseas but i rather avoid the hassle and sell it locally this time.
If someone from London purchases it, they will be able to inspect the phone and the contents and then give me the money.
That's cool, I figure I try anyways

I don't know how things work in Argentina, but I know here in the states, if you've been with your carrier long enough you can request an unlock code from them at no charge.

^^ Exactly what this guy said. CONTACT EBAY RIGHT AWAY!
CALL THEM ON THE PHONE. Say, "Item not as described". Tell them you want to escalate it to a claim. They will tell you to ship the item back and give them a tracking number, also get delivery confirmation. You will get your money back as soon as eBay gets delivery confirmation from the postal service.
Experience: Returned a touch screen acer laptop with dead zone in the touch screen when it was claimed to be 100% working
AND WHEN YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK... I have 2 Motorola backflips... I bought one unlocked, used it on T-Mobile for 2 days, and then saw AT&T was offering free backflips with new service. So now I'm on AT&T with a free Backflip, but I do have an unlocked Backflip sitting here as well. I'll sell it to you for $280 + shipping, via eBay. I bought it for $290 about 3 weeks ago. You should also use "Bing Cashback" to get 8% cash back on the "Buy it Now". PM me if you're interested.
The Backflip is the hottest phone ever.. Lol. Good choice.
lol i dont know about the backflip being "the hottest phone ever" but i guess to each their own right
If you bought something on eBay but didn't receive it or you received something that's significantly not as described, PayPal Buyer Protection can help.
PayPal Buyer Protection covers eligible transactions for the full purchase price plus original shipping charges. Some purchases -- like vehicles in the Motors category, capital equipment in the Business & Industrial category, and Real Estate -- aren't eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection.
To qualify for PayPal Buyer Protection:
Use PayPal to buy an eligible item on eBay.
Pay for the item with one payment. Items purchased with multiple payments aren't eligible.
Send your payment by clicking the Pay For It button on the eBay invoice or by clicking the Pay Now button on the eBay item page.
Let the seller know there's a problem with the transaction by opening a dispute in the Resolution Center within 45 days of making your payment. Then, escalate the dispute to a claim within 20 days of the date you opened the dispute.
Keep your PayPal account in good standing.
Find out more about PayPal Buyer Protection in our PayPal User Agreement.
You can report your problem in the PayPal Resolution Center or the eBay Resolution Center. Either way, you’ll receive the same coverage.
To find out how to report a problem on eBay, go to eBay and click "Resolution Center" at the bottom of any page.
The fastest way
I am not going to add anything useful to the conversation. BUT....
While the Paypal dispute resolution center is a great thing. I think the fastest and easiest way to go about this is to get a freaking code. He has the phone there, there's no need to reship wait and buy another and so on. That is if he can get a code... That was the question.
Open a dispute, or spend $2.15, its not that expensive
http://cgi.ebay.com/UNLOCK-Code-4-A...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item23086e6c8f
All you guys fail with your comments
I say he should ask him for the $3 to get a unlock code. He will probably say yes to avoid shipping costs of sending it back and the hassle of dealing with a return.
ebay
Hi,
I bought several times in Ebay from Argentina, I opened a dispute once and got my money back, but maybe, in this case, it's better to just unlock the phone in your hands.
Anyway, I'm willing to buy a phone, mainly for internet and email while traveling in Argentina. I want to buy an AT&T blackberry or similar. I know this unlocked phones do work for sms and calling, but I don't know if they work for Email and Internet or 3G: did you unlock your phone? does it work for Internet and Email?
Thanks
I am from Nigeria, I bought a Google pixel 7 pro from eBay after signing the bid for 500$
I contacted the seller if the phone was under contract, and his respond was "no".
I have been trying to unlock the phone, I called T-Mobile but they refuse to unlock the phone.
I cannot refund the phone because I already shipped it to Nigeria where I live and I am no longer able to contact the seller as the business seems concluded.
Please, I really need help to unlock this phone because the phone will be useless in my hand if not unlocked.
I spent a total of 620$ after tax and shipping.
I will be supper grateful if I can be helped.
Thank you .
Sounds like the phone was not paid off by the seller or it was stolen which would explain why T-Mobile refuses to help you.
If thats the case the phone is most likely blacklisted in which case there is nothing you can do.

I believe the only option would be for the seller to pay off the loan at T-Mobile, which they're never gonna do, or to return it.
Those are your two options. There is nothing more that can be done. You're screwed as far as the phone is concerned.
However, you can open a case with eBay.
Open ebay or PayPal case
If item was advertised as unlocked you should get your money back.
