32GB SDHC Card - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

Hi I've searched the forum about this but cant really find any definitive answers.
Is it possible to run a 32GB SDHC card on the Uni or not?
Has anybody done this and currently using it and if so is there any drawbacks or restrictions etc?
What driver/Software is needed for it to be recognised is it the normal SDHC prog that comes with some cooked 6.1 roms or is it another?
This is the same card as the one i have ordered is it compatible?
Thnx for any help/Advice you can give

I have heard of 32GB cards running on a Uni. (I've only got 8GB, though)... but now you've ordered it, you'll be able to enlighten us whether it works I'm sure many people would be interested, and this is what xda-devs is all about, all chipping in a bit of info

Will be happy to post results, was just hoping somebody had already tested and had some info already, Searched forums but seems nobody has actually tried it out yet.
Will try it first oob then try the sdhc driver and see what happens.

I can confirm that you can use 32GB SD Card with Uni. I am using one from Silicon Power and you need to select appropriate Card type using 'SD Settings' program after inserting it. The program will ask you to reboot the device and once done, its business as usual.
Almost all 6.1 Roms recognised and I have not experienced any issues in using 16GB Card.
Hope this helps.

This is very usefull info!
Thanks,

Perfect
it would be an excelente notice, I already own one 16 gb running wm 6.1, and let me tell you that i have not room on it.
Pls let us know your comments

Are you talking about a 16GB card or a 32Gb card, ??

I received my16Gb card today and spent some time getting stuff on it - movies, music, setup .CABs etc, seems to be performing fine, the only difficulty I experienced is the card not being recognised by my computer in USB mode, not sure why, had no problems accessing it through AS. Therefore it is taking me longer to transfer large files or folders over. Othere than that there seems to be no problems performance-wise. Would be interesting to know how the 32Gb performs.

Waiting for the result .... hope it works great..... please let us know.....

The card has now arrived and it was recognised straight away on setting 2 with the SD-Settings app. Im gunna transfer everything across and install some apps and test everything out etc and post back soon
Can anybody recommend any tests i can do to make sure everything is working normally etc, Im gunna do the benchmark test with pocket mechanic but is there any other progs that can test it?

Try SD Setting type-1.
It is faster than type-2.

Sorry for confusion, I do have it on type-1.
What i meant is that i have it on the second setting which is type-1, type-2 been third setting.
Havent got round to trying any software out on card yet as I'm trying to get my PC to recognise the card it just seems to not accept SDHC cards or 32gb ones anyway.
Ive copied all my data installers/docs etc from old card to PC and im trying to transfer using the "Disk Drive" setting in "USB to PC" but sometimes the uni reboots , will get there eventually.
Do you know of a fix for Vista/Win7 to be able to read 32GB SDHC cards?

Be careful if you get one from Hong Kong via ebay as mine had a autorun.inf on the card infected with a worm, My AV (ESET NOD32) got rid though.
Im also having alot of problems transferring data to the card, I get so much on then something will go wrong like the phone will reboot or lose connection and then the card inst accessible it just says it needs formatting.
I cant get XP or Win7 to see the card when its in my inbuilt reader, Ive order a cheap card reader that accepts various cards including 32Gb sdhc so hopefully i can get all my data on and properly test it out.

XP and High capacity SD cards
I have a 16G card, have no problems on the Uni it works great but I did have problems on XP on the inbuilt SD reader on my laptop. The following microsoft patch fixed the XP issues.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934428

Tried that but that hotfix is already installed into SP3, so fook knows whats up. Should have my reader by monday anyway.

Is this combination working in Singapore?
XDAII/WM5/Sandisk Wifi card- Connect "SDWSDB-000".
Sandisk Wifi card was working fine with WM2003SE. After WM5 upgrade, It does not work anymore.
ok i got the spectec card!
its like westswamp said, just install driver and have fun!
its really cool having wlan on an mda2
Yes - I too use a Spectec card (SDW-821) and it just works great under WM2005, just like it is meant to.....
The only slight glitch I have found is that if I have used GPRS to connect to the internet over GSM, I need to soft reset before the wi-fi card will connect again, but that's the only issue.
Otherwise its great. Even the "power saving" on the card works fine, with the card led going to sleep when its not actually being used for a while and then coming back to life ok...
Got mine from e-Bay from one of those overseas "buy it now" traders for a steal..... Something like £28 delivered when the UK shops wanted over £50...

Kingston 4gb minisd...

It is really freaking slow AND is never recognized by my 8125. I cant partition it either through windows or wm5storage. It transfers at about 30k/sec.... rediculously slowl. Im running XDA Mobile 6 Release 5 FINAL full!. Is there any patch or update or trick I can pull to get my 8125 to recognize my 4gb kingston minisd? Or atleast increse its speed?
Thanks,

I am sorry but Wizard is not suporting 4GB miniSD card very well. Some people reported, that some cards are working, but almost all are not working specialy because new cards are SDHC which need more specific hardware. So if it is your case and your card is SDHC there is no chance to get it work. If not make sure your card is formated to FAT16, try it in some memory card reader, if it works. And at the end this is not a good thread for memory cards. And 4GB miniSD cards have been already discused in Wizard accessories or Wizard upgrading thread, so search there your answers...
Try this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293556
I was just about to, but I got side-tracked, and now it's unreasonably late. I'll try it tomorrow if you will....
Scuse me lady...
Are you xtremely sure that this works...? it works for you?
Does you know that if you instal a hardware patch it never recognize the SD slot none SD card till you upgrade again or hardreset and it will cost many info?
so...
A men On hermes thread told me the newer versions of porting ROMS Builds has an entrie that allow read SDHC I think since 20273 but....
Does your wizard has it? seee on my Shipped ROM from Hermes WM6.0 already comes with this Reg entrie and so...
Is not the Software... cause if it would... the old .1933 that builds the rom I have it never comes ok? so...
You can see if the wizard has it and try this... I cant recomend it but make a high research and try it before post try this
its not recomended to do that...
first make it on your then recomend...
This is the REG
HKLM/drivers/sdcard/clientdrivers/class/SDmemoryclass
"inside... High_Capacity and many inside too...
Block transfer
dll
iclass
prefix
profile
So...
if wanna try it...
search for it on hermes threads.
So I tried it today (Sat, 11/8)
It didn't work, and nothing blew up, either. I guess I appreciate the recommendation, though.
Yes, I know there's a lot out there to try to solve this, but this looked easy, and I thought I'd offer it since you seemed to be looking for things to try.
I think I was very clear about not having tried it yet, so why did you ask me if I was sure it worked?
I back up everything daily, so it's pretty easy for me to reflash, or hard reset. No "data cost" ever. I'd recommend it. I guess being prepared makes me look pretty reckless when it comes to trying new things.
The fix also includes dlls, I didn't bother analyzing it, checking to see what the reg entry was in the fix, checking my own registry, or reading any Hemes threads. I don't have time. Again, if it blows up, I can handle it. If I weren't fully backed up I'd spend more time doing research on the dozens of fixes I try than I do backing up and recovering (I haven't had to for over a year, now). I don't generally care about the code details and what happens on other gadgets I will never own.
Good luck with this.
P.S. Please check my signature.
i am using amp v3 rom wm6.1
ust want to know how much capacity does wizard can supoort.
i have 1gb working well,can i upgrade to 2/3 gb & works well...
have you tried the SanDisk microSD with adapter?
I have it working on mine. faster than the old 1gb Kingston I used to have. It maybe the problem with the card it self.
try a different brand, or try the "ultra" series as well. they may have a better transfer rate as they were made for video games.
there is also an issue with formating the card:
if you decide to format using xp to fat32 it will run slower. unfortunately, the only way to recover it propperly was to put it into my camera and have it format back to fat16. xp would not do it.
again, i think your problem is kingston. they are good for ram on PC/MAC; but i do not think they have gotten the sd memory dow yet. next time get the origional "SD/SanDisk II"
good luck.
The speed is fine after I formated back to fat 16, thanks to my handy camera. But I cant seem to partition the damn thing into two 2gb cards... any thoughts? Ive done the wm5storage, card reader, xp/vista, partition magic, fdisk thing and none have worked thus far. Thoughts?

Hi
Its a registry hack just go to hklm/drivers/sdcard/clientdrivers/class/sdmemory_class and here modify the value of "Blocktransfersize" from 128 to 64 it fix the media player sound cracking but also slightly decrease the data writing speed on ur card. this will not harm ur card and ur card will work perfectly with ur card reader and if u dont use the card reader than when u want to transfer large amount of data(above 256 mb) u can increase this value upto 512.

RAPH100 not recognizing 8GB Class6 microSD

Hi,
I'm new to this forum as well as to the HTC Raphael. I've got a RAPH100 and did the latest offical ROM Upgrade (ROM: 5.05.407.1 GER, Radio: 1.11.25.01DE, 52.58.25.30U) and now it's not recognizing my microSD card anymore. Before, I had to reinsert the card 2-5 times, but often it didn't work anyway.
My storage card is a:
Transcend microSDHC Class 6 8GB
MMAGR08GUDCA-DB
I F0240000 914
52511 2452
I already searched for a sort of patch, but typically it has to work out-of-the-box i guess.
EDIT: even freshly formatted it doesn't work

Bastard!! that was my first fix!!!
ok, more useful help:
1) its possible you're SD card has a defect your PC (through its card reader) doenst mind, but your phone does. If possible (ie you have more of these cards, or friends with the same phone) try your card in other (same & different) phones / other (same) cards in yours
1 i) It's possible your phone OR card has a minor pin problem - have a look & see if there is anything obvisously wrong with the card contacts / phone pins (you might need a torch)
1 ii) try a different micro SD card (any type or size) - if it reads 100% fine, then it is unlikely to be a pin problem on the phone (unlikely - not impossible)
[when i say pin here, i mean micro SD card pins / pickups / contacts, not any kind of password]
2) How about flashing back to the old rom (if its available)? - then testing again
3) How about flashing a custom rom? (this is a little involved - its not difficult, but will require some time to ready & understand before you start)

I'm sorry, haven't found a solution yet. I'm thinking of flashing the newest Energy Rom, because there are several users reporting that this could fix the compatibility issue. But I haven't already had the time to do so.
@Bruce:
After searching a second a time I found some threads about exactly that problem. I haven't found them the first time because I just searching in Raphael, not accessoiries ;-)
Well, I flashed the recent Energy ROM, which seemed to help at first but now my phone doesn't see the microSD anymore. But I put a ROM Image to the root of my storage card and booted into bootmanager et voila: it asks for update, so its not a hardware issue i suppose.

No, if the hardware can read the ROM image on the card then i dont think its a hardware problem. (Still can but not likely) So it seems to be a problem with Windows mobile or with (all!) the roms we are using.
Considering that this problem (now and then) excist in all ROMS i cant imagen that it are the ROMs that causing the problems. For sure when there are so many ROMs, aka: Now it seems that there is no ROM developper that can solve this problem. I cant imagen that. Those guys are smart enough to figure this out.
Considering that: Other cards do work WITH windows mobile AND with all roms we are using you might think that its the brand thats causing the problem... But i read more forums and it seems that more cards and brands can have this problem. But not all the time... Trancends is leading for shure but not the only one (adata)...
Considering that: My "defect card" does work in a card reader you would still think that it is the hardware... But why does the hardware read other cards then? So it really cant be the hardware...
Considering that its Windows Mobile then? That might be... But then again alot of cards do work in WM.... So that cant be the problem either...
Considering that all the cards must be produced conform protocol or standard xxx all the cards must work "the same" or at least be compatible with devices... But we know for shure that this isnt the case...
So:
Most cards work, so hardware cant be the problem, windows mobile / ROMS can read most cards. So that cant be the problem either. The problem excist in alot of Brands. A few got way more problems than other brands.
So might it be the production process of the cards? Are the cards being dubble checked when they are made or when the are ready? Is it the brand that sells all cards including the defect cards. And do some brands check there cards better then others... Might there be so little manufactoring problems they over see them. I guess more research would really help here...
Those cards came way to fast on the marked for budge prices... And it seems that we are paying the price for it now....

I have only seen this issue with the transcends or the aData cards which are the bottom of the line cards. I would suspect that the data transmit rate and consistency is what causes the issue. Even if you get the device to recognize it, you can't stream media from it without freezes, etc.
I have the same problem but with a 4 GB - Class 4 - microSDHC kingston.
Wmobile since I can not format it is as if protected. takes some files to read the card, including executables, coming to hang the device.
salu2
I had the same issue with the same card (Transcend C6 8GB). I was unable to fix the issue. Good luck!
I noticed:
My bosses Fuze wouldn't see it (stock rom)
My friends VZ Touch Pro would see it (stock rom)
My old 8525 would see it (cooked rom)
And a bunch of people at my work with the Titan, could see the card.
I just traded with a friend who had a Transcend C4 8GB card.
Here's my previous post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525445
I changed it for an kingston 8 gb. That worked on the fly...
I now changed to a SanDisk 8GB ... working like a charm
My AT&T FUZE with the Energy ROM would only sometimes read my Adata 8Gb Class 6 Micro SDHC. I swithced it with an older Kingston 6Gb Class 4 Micro SDHC I had on my camera and haven't had anymore problems. Read about several people on different websites with the same problem. I could not find a fix either. The Raphaels just don't like those cheap micro sd cards.
Good Day! Friends please help for my trouble with this (MMAGR08GUDCA-DB) microSDHC card... All it's ok work, but today, flash card say to me: format not possible sd is write-protect! Oo but i'm not added write-protect nd no added some code for this card...
Please say to me, how i can formated this card?????????????????
I very very need your help, 2 days internet serfing not much normal result (( and i can't find any firmware tools to format this flash card (((((((((((
Formatting can be done using an micro sd-adapter (i dont know if you can set writeprotect then...). Then you can format the card in a normal pc. But if that doenst work also, then i would think it over to send the card back for an other brand. I formatted my old card on a normal pc to. That went fine... but then stil the rapheal dit not reconised the card....
So it really might be the brand... beside that, i dont know if a class 6 card works well...

SD CARD

Well I Clear SD MBR on my card in magldr113 after that my sd card is invisible on my PC or phone. Please help?!
So you could see it ok before?
Is it an SDHC (assume it is), does the reader you have it in, on the PC read SDHC, or SD only?
Is it the right format for the phone to read?

No, my hd2 don't read this card after clear. Please help it's a new one.
Ok, this isn't uncommon and i have had this problem too.
Unfortunately, sometimes your card can be corrupted by the process of wiping the partition via magldr, it is rare but can happen.
However and more commonly, your card can be rescued by inserting it into a nokia N97 (or similar) Nokia device. You then simply ignore the password prompt, go into setting and format the card. You will then find your computer can recognise the card. It is the way early wp7 roms wrote the card that effectively locked them, you should not get this problem with later roms.
Sometimes you can be lucky and use Ubunto to wipe the card, but in my experience, use a Nokia (about the only good use for them!!!!). You can also use the app in windows mobile 6.5 if you know anyone who is still using wm6.5 lol
Cheers and hoped this helped.
Can you tell me witch WP7 ROM is the best for HTC HD2 and read my kingston 8gb class 4 ?
I got exactly the same. Is there no other way to fix it? I mean something what can be done on PC/MAC using card reader or by CWM?
I don't know about your SD card as I use a transcend 8gb C6, but I use yuki/xbox rom
As for getting both your SD cards working again, they are encrypted so you either have to use wm 6.5 and use format utility there or get your hands on a N97 or similar. No current utility for a pc or mac works as far as I know (bummer I know)

Try this..

If the nokia doesnt detect the card then im afraid its fried. It does happen, flash does not not an unlimited life span, even new ones.
Time to buy another im afraid, I can recommend transcend 8gb class 6, works fine with droid and wp7

[Q] 64GB SDcard format question

I ordered a new Sandisk 64GB SDcard but after reading many threads on the topic here, I have a question about the format. From what I've read, in order to have the card recognized by CWM and other custom recoveries, it needs to be in Fat32 format rather than exFAT. Many people have suggested that you can use a Windows based 3rd party software to properly format the card, but I don't have a SDcard reader on my PC so I'm not sure what my options are at this point. I tried searching the forums about posts from people in a similar situation (i.e no card reader on PC) but was unable to find anything. Any suggestions or ideas on what I can do to retain the full 64gb capacity and still be compatible with CWM without having access to a SDcard reader? Thanks very much.

Will need to find a PC to format it. It comes ExFat and not only recoveries won't see it but roms/kernels may not see it either. The program is guiformat. Can Google and find it easily. The site is little confusing. Click on the picture of the app and it will give you the download.

Thanks very much for the response. I was afraid that would be the case. I honestly don't know anyone who has access to a SDcard reader, so I might have to just end up returning it to Newegg for a 32gb version instead. Thanks again, I sincerely appreciate the info.

I thought these issues were exclusive to just the 64gb variants.
I actually dug around in my basement and found my old PC tower that has a built in 8 in 1 card reader that supports SDcards. If I can find a way to extract it from the old tower and hook it up to my new one, I may yet find a way. Thanks again for the continued help.

Yea. Only difference between 32 and 64 is don't need a special program for 32. Windows can do it natively. Good luck.
I realize this question may sound ridiculous, but I figured there was no harm in asking.
Is there any chance I could stick the 64gb card in my old Droid X, connect it to my PC, and then use the program you suggested to format it to FAT32? I guess I was hoping the phone could act like a SDcard reader of sorts for my PC. Thanks again.

I had a droid x but I'm not sure if it handled a 64gb but if it does you should be able to format it the way you want.I bought a $4 usb micro sd card reader for my SanDisk 64gb card and I hooked it up to my pc usb slot and used a partition program and was able to successfully format it to fat32.Have not had one problem with it being recognized by any Rom or kernel, think it gave me 59gb total after it formatted.

You hang out at Radio Shack too. I'm looking at one right now. Looks like a midgets thumb.

Thanks. I had no idea they were that cheap. If the DX idea doesn't work, I'll just stop by my local Microcenter or Best Buy and pick one up. Thanks again.
Edit: Am I correct in assuming the product linked below would do the job? If so, it's only $1.99 so I think i could manage to afford one.

Won't work from phone but go to radio shack and get cheapest one of these you can find. May be able to get with 1GB card. Take pic and show them what you want. Sorry I been busy and didn't think about it. Good call Droid. $12 max.
So I purchased a SDcard reader, hooked it up to my PC, and formatted it with the guiformat program that was recommended earlier in the thread. I set the allocation size to 65536 and left the Quick Format option checked. However, after it finished, both Windows and the S3 only show it as a 32gb card (approximately 27 GB total storage space). Is there another formatting program for Windows or any other ideas you could recommend so I can get the correct storage size (64gb)? Thanks again.

I tried using a few different programs to format the card to FAT32 but every time it still showed up as a 32gb card. I ordered it directly from Newegg so I don't think the authenticity is an issue, but I have no idea what could've caused this to happen. Regardless, I sincerely appreciate the help I got from the folks in this thread and via PM. Thanks again for your time and effort.

There's another thread detailing all the issues with exfat 64gb cards here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698672
I encountered the same "hiccup" as you pertaining to the 32 gb issue.
I ended up using a program called EaseUS Partition Master to finally get all back to normal. I wiped my sdxc partition, it did come back with some message that something didn't complete ???, but then I formatted as fat 32, primary partition, and got the entire 64gb back and so far... ( fingers crossed ),.. all seems to be working well.
With the card formatted as exfat, as soon as I got around 8 gb of music, photos, etc.. the card simply would loose its' file structure and just start acting weird. All files would still show up if I pulled the card and put in an sdxc reader on the PC... but my Galaxy S3 never would recover them properly.
This has got to be some kind of "bug" in the phone as you'll see in the other thread this problem is quite common.
For what it's worth.. I seemed to have much better luck transferring large chunks of data with the card in the reader opposed to hooked up while in the phone. ( speeds kept dropping via the phone cable )
Good luck!
Thanks for the info. I actually tried the EaseUS Partition program you referred to, but it still remained at 32gb. I ended up returning the card to Newegg and will just get a 32gb to replace it as I'd rather not have to repeat this process. Thanks again for the useful info. I sincerely appreciate it.
Sure... I vaguely remember I had to try to format as NTFS first for some reason before I got it to properly format with entire 64gb fat 32. I spent countless hours trying to work out all the bugs with this card and exfat. Samsung states the Galaxy S3 phone is compatible with it... but there is definitely an issue with file structure once you start loading it up.
Quick update:
I ended up returning my Sandisk 64GB and replaced it with a G.Skill 32GB (Class 10) that was on sale for $22 from Newegg. Surprisingly, it came already formatted as FAT32 so I didn't have to mess around with it to get it working with CWM and custom kernels. Seems to be working great so far, and is plenty fast, so I'm pretty happy with the end result. I guess it might have been nice to have an extra ~30GB, but I mainly stream all my music/video anyways, so I'll have a tough time even filling up this new card.
Thanks again to everyone who gave me their advice and input on trying to get my first SDcard formatted correctly. Even though I wasn't ultimately successful, I sincerely appreciate everyone's time & effort.
