Kaiser dead after flash - General Questions and Answers

My friend gave me a HTC Kaiser. He tried to upgrade it (i do not kdow details), everything looked fine, the process turned to 100% and he was happy that it will end with success, but that not happened. Kaiser turned off and now is dead, totally dead - i can not get to bootloader, no LED flashes... But he assured me that everything was 100% working before this flash.
What I can do? I totally have no idea. Thank you

he probably flashed it with a rom that wasnt designed for your kaiser post what rom he tried to upgrade with on here and then maybe someone will be able to help.
If it wasnt a kaiser rom, then he has bricked it and all you can do is sell it for spares

I have sent him an email where I ask which ROM it was. What i already know, that it was "upgrade" (as he said, so maybe to 6.1??) from HTC.com.
I hope he will answer asap with details about ROM.

Now he answered, that it was only official upgrade to wm 6.1 from htc.com which is available to download

but was it an official htc device or a rebranded device i.e. o2 stellar? As i am sure that they wont like being flashed with a rom that is not specifically designed for them

It is Htc Kaiser, not a branded version...
I have no clue what's wrong... why it is not working...

Well i Would try getting another battery and see if that makes it spring into life. If not then maybe you should see if your friend is lying about what he actually flashed as i have neve heard of anybody bricking a htc phone with a stock rom.

when I try to recharge it, it goes a little warm (battery) after some time - as is normal on every device. But this doesn't mean anything.
I'll try another battery, as you've said and we'll see...
Or I will try to send it in service... I hope it will not be expensive... i have no idea about prices...
And I hope my friend is not lying...

I doubt it's the battery, and if your friend says he flashed an official htc rom and now bricked...sounds like he was flashing different roms without hard spl or a rom not designated for kaiser or both and trying to get some easy money from you; official roms don't brick. If you can't even get into bootloader to flash a fix; I'd suggest your friend is a **** for selling you a brick n get your money back

Bad ROM update: is my Tornado dead?

Greetings... It's been only two days since I've bought my HTC Tornado (T-Mobile SDA). After unlocking it, I tried uploading different ROMs (i-mate SP5m, Cingular 2125, etc), just to find the one that suits me. Anyway, I found this T-Mobile SDA II ROM and without a second thought, I uploaded it to my phone. I didn't realize than this ROM was for the HTC Hurricane. After the "successful" upload, the phone went off! Now it does not boot at all, the battery does not seem to charge, I'm not even able to launch the three-colour bootloader screen (camera button + usb plug).
Can I upload a new ROM? Is there a way to recover my phone?
If the flashing stated it was successful then it should be. Try other fully charged battery.
Thank you for your quick answer. The battery was fully charged when I flashed the phone. Unfortunately, I found out that the "bad" ROM that I uploaded was for the HTC Hurricane phone!!! Is there anything I can do right now? Is it recoverable?
you *might* be able to recover with a SD card image, not sure
just connect your phone to the computer, turn it on, and immediately run a PROPER rom update for it, you might be able to get it back.
i did the same with a tornado rom on a SP3i (typhoon) and managed to get it back after a few tries
good luck
The problem is that I cannot turn my phone on. The phone seems completly dead. Just like having no battery installed (which btw is fully charged). I can't get to the bootloader (RGB) screen. Is it possible to use a SD card image? If I won't be able to update the rom, do you know if the HTC support can do it or should I throw my phone away?
dead is dead!
if the phone is under warranty , it should be no problem to get new one!
I didn't know that Hurricane can stop a Tornado ..well maybe it was just the end, and yes, if it still has warranty, use it.
Please observe Silence for 2 mins.

this is exactly why i get the jitters everytime i flash my phone... i'd rather do a hard reset. i'll only flash ONLY if it comes to it, when it comes to it; and if there's a new rom worth it (like the wm6 rom the geniuses are making here... can't wait 'til the 'alpha' comes out ^_^)

don't take it as a joke, and if i send to HTC?
Who's joking?
If that is the case, you might need to change the corrupted ROM chip, and usually they will change the whole mainboard, which is very expensive, not worth to repair
They asked about 600€ for the repaid, so I bought a new one (380€) and sold the broken one for spare parts.
600 EUROS for repair ? In my country, that is 4200 bucks, enough to buy a brand new O2 XDA FLAME.
A new one for 380 EURO ? You can get HTC Hermes with that amount in my country,
The repair cost in my country will definitely be lower than 100€, why not send it to me via courier, and see how much would HTC repair it here
yeah, sell it for parts and save up for the htc advantage ^_^

I have spv, but processor is OMAP710. Is for somebody spv (Canary or Tanager) his phone with OMAP5910 processor???
I read here: http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/HTC_Tanager
OMAP5910 datasheet: http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/omap5910.pdf
Tornado have a 10 pin jtag connector!!!
You can find it possibly the jtag points with this software, http://www.c3a.de/wiki/index.php/JTAG_Finder
and with this hardware: http://www.xilinx.com/support/programr/jtag_cable.pdf
You must find TRST, TDI, TCK, and TRST must pull up VDD with ~200R resistor.
Good luck!
Great info, Dibi. Thanks!!! Although I have sold my "brick" for parts, many unlucky guys will find this information useful to revive their phones.

[technical] Troubles upgrading?!?

Well i dont have a device so i cant provide much info, but wanted to start a thread of problems and possible solutions...
So i will kick it off.. A friend of mine just messaged me said he acquired a post-production kaiser and wanted to install the ATT rom on it... however when he does it just says could not flash handheld or whatever or its not compatible...it goes to bootloader, gets to around 1% and then stops and phone restarts...

Well I'm probably going to catch a beating for this but has anybody has the BALLS to hard spl the kaiser with the hermes version. I realize saying this is obvious is an understatement but I would venture to say that most people would be to scared to try. I have a solid connection at a cingy cough...cough I mean at&t store that has switched out 8525's for me without question so I may try if I can get my hands on one. The way I see it I have to start contributing at some point LOL
I would guess it is due to a CID lock...
But then again, what do I know

if it was cid lock you generally get the "invalid vendor" code.. He specifically stated it wasnt that error... but that was my first thought also... not to mention it should be unlocked at least for the first flash since its HTC branded..
although we did discover that a hard reset is done the same way as the hermes, 2 soft keys + reset ... couldnt find how to put it in bootloader though
It is due to CID lock.
To put in bootloader hold camera + power and reset with stylus.
I got my kaiser today, I'll start to work on a CID unlocker soon

bricked HTC

I think i bricked theHTC fuze that i bought yesterday I tried to do the Hard SPL but i was getting an error message, error 244 invalid model ID so i used a program to change the .nbh (a radio file) file so it bypassed the error message (by changing DIAM***** to RAPH*****, since my phone is raphael). I even got a message that the process was successfully finished but it turned out not to be true because the screen went black and now i cant turn it on, and i cant even get it into the bootloader mode. If i could at least get it into to tricolor screen i would be able to flash back the original radio and that would solve the problem because ive already done it a few times. Please let me know if there is a chance to get it fixed, even i had to send it to a professional but as long as it could be fixed, im really desperate. Thank you
brick, htc fuze, diamond, raphael, hardspl
You only get that error when your trying to flash the wrong device... Did you use the file "Raphael_CDMA_HSPL_037.zip" to unlock..?? Sound's to me like you used the Diamond Unlocker... Shouldn't be that hard to fix, hold the volume down button, power button, and insert stylus into the hole on the bottom to soft reset to try and open up BL screen... LMK if that works...
Why didn't you just follow the instructions for flashing? You aren't even security unlocked, so why were you trying to flash a diamond radio? That makes no sense at all. Also, if you are security unlocked, you need to get diamond radios from the raphael forum, because they're patched to flash onto raphaels. It sounds like you got yours from the diamond forum, which is the wrong way to go (especially if it's a cdma radio-that would kill your phone for sure). Did hard spl work? If not, why on earth did you forge ahead? YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL YOU FLASH HARD SPL!!!!!
Try pulling the battery for a while, the see if it will start up. It's hard to tell what you did, but since you went down such a wrong path, I wouldn't be surprised if the phone is a giant brick.

this should've been clue #1. If you have to change it because of the device ID, it's the wrong thing to flash. The Diamond and Raph look alike on the front, but are almost totally incompatible ROM-wise.,

You are wrong there, it did flash successfully. The tools worked EXACTLY as they were designed. It's not the tools fault

You might contact olipro, I hear he's got the "magic touch" with devices. No guarantees. I've heard that it's almost impossible to unbrick a device like this after an incorrect/bad radio flash.
I really hope it works out for you. Read dude, the stickies are everywhere for your benefit. Best of luck to you.
brick, htc fuze, diamond, raphael, hardspl
I run into things like this DAILY. Been a service rep for over 30 years. If people would ONLY follow the instructions, I'd have less follow up work to do.
Unfortunately they make these phones too easy to hack (good for us) but sometimes noobs make it hard for the rest of us.
lol
This is what happens when you don't follow directions, don't read enough, and are monkeying with things you obviously shouldn't be monkeying with.
When you got the device ID error, you should have stopped right there and thought "gee, maybe I should go over these instructions again and see what I did wrong" instead of trying to force a radio that will never work on your device.
Hope you can get it in to bootloader, otherwise enjoy your shiny new brick.
Well, hope you get it solved and otherwise you learned a lesson in a very expensive way I'm afraid...

I did hard SPL first with 1.90OliNex (because the one that was in the unlocking package originally didnt work beacuse of the invalid model ID message) and i thought thats what security unlocked the phone and then i tried to put a costume radio that would allow me to unlock the phone but the radio wouldnt flash. So i went back to the SPL from the unlocking package (HARD SPL 1.34) and i changed the .nbh file from DIAM***** to RAPH***** and then it bricked... The reason i did this is beacuse of the following link :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-427305.html
I just hope something can still be done otherwise this is just a good warning for all others not to do this. Thank you for the replies

No I used a gsm unlocker, HARD SPL 1.34... There is a more detailed explanation in the post above
Hard spl 1.34 is either cdma or diamond gsm-I don't know which. I do know that it will brick a gsm touch pro. Flashing the wrong hard spl is the guaranteed way to kill a phone. If you actually flashed it, the phone is dead. Try pulling the battery for a day.
You need to run the gsm raphael unlocker to security unlock your phone. You need to pay for it, too. Hard spl doesn't security unlock your phone-it only CID unlocks it.

But dude no offense but u deserve a black shiny 600$ brick because YOU DIDN'T FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ! THEY ARE THERE TO BE FOLLOWED UNLESS AND UNTIL YOU ARE SO RICH THAT YOU CAN WASTE 600$ OR YOU ARE A SUPER CHEF AT XDA AND ARE SURE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING !
Anyways Best of luck hope you can unbrick it !
otherwise smash it
Bye.
LoL yeah a $600 paper weight may also come in handy..?? Or like previously stated, take your anger out on it for not doing it right the first time lol...
I now this might be a little too late to answer, but i want to give my two cents to this brick posts. Maybe someone will need it. This is for anyone that might be where I was for over 2 weeks. I though my Fuze/ Raphael / touch pro was history. My phone will get into restart loops when ever he wanted. It was very anoying. After replacing every possible software from Radio, Hard Spl, different rooms and even start up splashes, and almost getting "ORD" in the process. I finally took my phone apart, since there was no warranty. Once open I saw that the reset bottom inside was too close to the rubber reset bottom from outside. Guess what ?? That as all it was..... Good luck to all. : )

Purchasing a potentially bricked Sensation; Advice and Suggestions?

Hey guys. I have a chance to pick up a mint sensation locally for a cheap price. The seller is under the impression it is bricked. I've read through the threads for a while now but thought I would ask for some help/advice. The seller told me that he bricked the phone by trying to unroot it but has also said he was trying to "flash boot or something." He has made it clear that the phone will not turn on or show any signs of life. He has tried multiple batteries as well.
So, is there any way to ensure it is bricked? I had thought that maybe he messed up flashing a new rom.
If it is clearly bricked, what would be a good price to snag it for?
Would it be possible to buy it and contact HTC in regard to the warranty? What would this cost?
Thanks in advance,
PS; I have read about the inablility to charge after flashing CWM. I'm not sure if CWM was installed or not. I will ask that asap.
Sounds like an inappropriate file was flashed to hboot, in which case it's dead. Short of jtagging there is no way to fix it.
Thanks for the quick reply globatron. That sucks to hear that it probably is fried. Would the HTC warranty cover this type of repair?

No, they wouldnt as it was from user error.
Matt
Do you know for sure they wouldn't cover it? All morality aside it could be argued that it wasn't user error considering I'm not entirely sure what the seller did to it.

Well, morality aside you can always tell them that the OTA update bricked it.If you are a TMOUS customer you can try and contact T-mo first. They are usually easier to deal with than HTC.
NYCguy I read through your thread discussing your dealings with Tmous. I had thought about contacting them but they have been a huge pain for me lately. (Almost to the point of ending my contract). I shot HTC an email out of curiousity so I should hear back from them soon. I've had to replace a phone before via T-mobile and it was pretty smooth. I just don't want to do it all the time as this may look odd on their end.

Well I bought my "bricked" sensation. I spoke with the seller for a while and it seems he had rooted it, received notification of the OTA, and attempted to unroot it. He didn't give me specifics on the procedure he used but I'm going to read as much as I can, depending on when my monster child will let me, and attempt to fix this thing. I read about the battery tricks and will try those tonight. Any suggestions as this point guys?
Well after reading and tinkering with this thing for a while it seems I have the dreaded qhsusb brick. I already spoke with HTC and it is under warranty until November of 2013. My new question is, Will HTC be able to tell the device was ever rooted? A rom was never installed so it should be stock. Seems the seller made a mistake in trying to go from s-off to s-on. Just hoping I won't have to pay much to have a new one sent from the manufacturer.
Thanks

Well if it's a QHSUB brick that means the phone is truely DEAD.If you can't boot into bootloader, can't charge it and can't connect to a PC,then i don't see how could they tell if it was rooted or not. There is no way for them to tell. You just tell them you bricked it while trying to install the OTA update,or do as i did and contact T-mobile.
Good luck!
Thought I would update this thread for anyone who may stumble across it at a later date. I went ahead and sent my bricked phone into HTC. They repaired the phone and sent it back. I was suprised to see that they didn't send me a refurb.
I have to say that HTC were very easy to work with were quick in returning my phone.

Verizon S3 Wont turn on after proper rom flash

Ok, Phone was rooted suscessfully, Unlocked bootloader, was running a 4.2.2 Rom.
Buddy found the MS HD 10.0 Rom and wanted to try it. US phone. I looked at all the details and didnt see anything about it not being compatable.
Flashed the rom, went through all the GUID steps selected roms , styles etc etc, and It said completed "click here to reboot" So i did so.
Went black screen and now wont DO ANYTHING. cant get into download mode, recovery, a vibrate out of the phone, anything. Took the battery out for a min and plugged it in and get the orange light. Put the battery back in and STILL NOTHING. Please help! Buddy phone and he needs it
It's best to think of the international gs3 and us gs3 as two different phone. Because they are.
Flashing firmware meant for a different phone will result in a hard brick. Sorry

As was said above, MS HD ROM is for the international S3 (i9300). It is important to make sure you are in the right forum before downloading and flashing any ROMs. Unfortunately, many still make this mistake. The only way to fix is to replace the phone or send it to these guys:
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/
You can try and send it for JTAG repair (places like mobile tech) and they may be able to revive it.
But I'm not sure if places like best buy can positively confirm it was a bad flash if the phone is completely dead. I wouldn't think so but I'm not 100%

How about the Download Jig
If you are talking about Black Tie Insurance from Best Buy then you are fine and this is not fraud. Insurance is for boo boo's like dropping, smashing, flashing failures, drop in the toilet...all of that. They do not care if phone was rooted or misflashed. Insurance is not fraud, trying to get free replacements from the carrier under warranty by lying is.
