With the help of red_menace over at the apple support forum, I present Mac users with an application that will sign their .apk and .zip files.
It is a droplet application, meaning you just have to drag the file you want signed onto the application itself. A new file will be created with -signed at the end of the file name.
For this to work you need to have testsign.jar in your root directory. The root directory is the first place you come to when you click on the mac hard drive.
If anyone wants to use or edit the script that's fine with me, I really didn't do much, just asked the right people for help.

I cant find the testsign.jar its not in the tool directory of my SDK that I downloaded from Androids website

are you putting the testsign.jar in your ROOT dir? aka where adb is

Okay, so I'm getting the same error. And yes, my testsign.jar/Android-sign.app are both in my sdk/tools dir.
Not sure what the problem is.

What file is the adb? I understand what adb means and what it does, but I don't know how to identify it.
Ok so since im new to this can someone can make a really dumb guide for me from dowloading the app to putting the test.jar file please.

the testsign.jar needs to be in the root directory of your computer. The app can be placed anywhere you would like. Where ever you put the app, the new signed file will be also.
guys so lets say i put meltus audio hack in cyanogen 4.9999 and i want to sign the whole build back up how would i do that.

no i said that, and it is where adb is.... at least for me... in the root dir, if you move the adb file there you don't have to enter the path every time you enter adb commands in the terminal

i think what jaaronmoody was talking about is just putting your adb file into the root directory instead of adding to the bin. but im pretty new to the whole terminal and coding stuff, so i just know what i've picked up since having my g1.
guys does anybody know about signing folders again to make them flashable?

well if the file is good. you just have to drag the cm 4.9999.zip file onto the app and it will spit out the new signed version.
What I think is more complicated is actually modifying those files. I use virtualbox to run windows and do everything with 7zip.
Anyone know of a zip program similar to 7zip to edit the apk and zip files?

I've recently started to develop my own comic reader. The problem I've come up with is cbr files, which are esentially rar files. Now I know there are comic readers out there (all of them, I think) that support cbr files. So there is a way of doing this, I just can't find how.
In the rarlabs official page (search google rar addons and it's the first page) there are several options. I would like to know if I download the commandline arm unrar how I could install it on Android (I have a motorola Xoom, it would be for Honeycomb), assuming that is correct.
If this is not an option is there a command line unrar application that I could call from my own? and How would the code be (to call an external application, that is)?
If the above is not possible, what is the way to get to unrar something in android?
The only real option I've seen would be to use junrar (hosted on github)
But it seems complicated and I'm not sure it works very well as I've seen a lot of conflicting reports.

I'm not exactly sure what you wanted me to try. There is nothing in that page that would allow me to uncompress a rar file on android. Only a bunch of unrar utitilities and some android things but they are not related, that is, there is nothing that says unrar that also works on android.

You can bring the unrar binary along in the /asset of your app,
on first launch copy it to your apps /file directory, chmod +x it, and use exec("sh") to unrar the files from shell.
oh, I see. I think I get the the idea but I don't understand all the instructions.
What did you mean by importing thebinary on my asset?
If I do the step above why do I need to copy the binary on first launch?
Don't I need root privileges too chmod it? And how do I do it from my source code?
And finally where can I find the command line use of the application? Or is it the same as the Linux version?

You need to put it as asset to bring it along.
You need to copy it because asset files are not directly accessable.
You don't need root to chmod the file in your own directory.
You do it by using a shell from your code i.e. Process.exec("sh")
And finally you want to program the app not me,
so don't be lazy and invest some time.

Sorry for my lazyness, but I've been Googling for a good half hour without finding a simple 'unrar' binary executable compiled to run from terminal on rooted ARMx32 device. I don't want bloated GUI APK's or libraries for development implementation, but just the plain command line interface executable. Anyone, please? It's a pity they haven't baked it into Busybox as an applet, IMO.
Hi i have read a few posts about editing apk files but most are only about editing the image files. i need to edit the classes.dex file inside the apk i have done this but when i try and install the apk it doesnt work is this possible to do? thanks
this is not to do anything illegal it is simply to make an android app i use equal to the iphone equivalent (there are less servers for the android app) so i basically want to change the url from the apk to the iphone url)

Use apktool to extract the APK, you'll get .smali files instead of classes.dex (this is the decompiled version). Edit these files appropriately, then repack the APK with apktool and sign it. Should work.

It's an IDE for editing APKs, might help. But honestly, the command line part is the easy bit
Just never had any luck with any command line stuff for android never works for me and i hate all the extra crap you have to install to use it. Thanks anyway ill see how i go.

If you wanna do basic stuff wid apktool then its a reaaly easy tool.. The commands are really very small!
Apktool d xxxx.apk for decompile
Apktool b xxxx for compiling n ur done!
Even the complex ones arent difficult! Only the installing of apktool takes time and its the hardest thing in the whole procedure

in theory apktool is faily simple. but if you compile for android 4.0 better prepare yourself for huge headaches and a couple of white hairs as this thing wont work. i know two solutions, one consists of a really stupid juggling with two versions, one old which you can barely find, and one new, decompile with the old one, compile with the new one. some guy made a mod though and it finally ends the trouble, but i haven't seen it officially pronounced, which made it so damn hard to find it, hidden in some internet forums. another problem was that aapt needs to be present in the same directory, error codes will just spew out a bunch of gibbersish and you will never know whats wrong so all thats left is trying. but once you got it working it is as easy as pie.

nice! i made myself little batch files for this. i just go "apkd skype" to decompile skype.apk and apkb skype for building it, zipping it, signing it. didnt even know theres a guy out there now.

I am having troubles getting my roms to compile. I keep getting the same error in each one. If someone could let me know what I am doing wrong that would be great. I am using linux ubuntu 12.10 and go through all the instructions on building the roms. Even on ones where it says that it is completely set up I get the same error. Here it is.
make: *** No rule to make target `/home/paulg/android/rootbox/out/target/product/ville/obj/lib/libmmjpeg.so', needed by `/home/paulg/android/rootbox/out/target/product/ville/obj/SHARED_LIBRARIES/camera.msm8960_intermediates/LINKED/camera.msm8960.so'. Stop.
I guess the solution would be to take the file from another rom and put it into the directory but there has to be another way to do this besides doing that.
I also have another error where it says the libril directory from hardware/lib/libril is conflictin with the direcory msm-8960-common/libril ( not excatly like that but close enough). To fix this I just erase the hardware/lib/libril directory and leave the msm8960-common intact and let it compile from there. I don't know if this is right or not. You can get this file and all the other proprietary files by entering extract-files.sh from your device/devic_company/device_name directory from whatever rom you are trying to build. If you have done this then there should be a file that will automatically copy it or else you will have to copy it to the out/target/product/device_name/system/lib directory. You might want to also check that you have the correct manifest files in local_manifest for whatever device you are trying to build. usually there is a cm.dependencies file in the device/device_company/device_name directory that will tell you exactly what manifest to use. If you have any other questions let me know. I hope this helps.

oh wow, hahaha, I was in such a hurry, I completely missed that. I never used the extract-files.sh as all the proprietary files for my htc devices used to be hosted on github but recently got pulled due to a legal problem with the camera drivers. I had the files backed up on my old computer but forgot to copy them over to the new one. Wow, amateur mistake but one that would have taken me a while to catch. Many thanks man!!

I had the same problem with ville. Got the files pulled so made up my own repo with all the files that are needed.
I am using a couple of really old programs called recmod and reversmod and I am having trouble getting them to work. When I use the recmod tool, I do get a .dll file out of it, but the file is always 1kb and if I open a bunch of them in hex edit, they are nearly identical and each mentions that "this file cannot be run in DOS mode". Other than that, the rest of the file is almost entirely zeroes, so the code is null. Also the reversmode crashes when I try to use it on the .dll files I created, most likely because the files are busted.
In this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1251237 OndraSter mentions something about recmod/reversmode using type 5 and 7 instead of just type 3. I don't really know what to make of this and Google leads me only to things that don't pertain to recmod at all.

This may help someone help me a little. When I use recmod through the command line, I get an error saying "Error! ProcessCase0: bit 5 is zero!"
and this is the .dll file that I get out of it:

I renamed the file name to a so it would be shorter to type because I was trying a lot of different command prompt things. It was originally k.senscmdd.dll, not that it really matters. All of the modules I tried came out almost exactly like this.
