So... I stupidly forgot my phone on top of my car somehow and drove off... I came back to see my fuze laying on the floor ran over, battery out, back cover smashed. The side chasis is bent.
I am on eBay right now and I am about to buy a new housing for the fuze for 100.00 I have already found the service manual for the fuze, and it looks pretty crazy lol.
I have good IT knowledge and have been building and repairing laptops / computers for years. Do you think I will have a problem switching housing? Has anyone else ever done it? How was it?
Any comments would be appreciated, thanks.
I came across this just yesterday.

So about 2 months ago I dropped my fuze and then took advantage of my insurance and kept the broken one. The phone still works fine but the LCD is has a dark line through the middle of it after you turn it on and then it distorts wildly after that.
Well the next fuze came and I babied it (and still do) but the screen protector got some air bubbles under it and I took it off with the intention of buying more. Well the next day a deep scratch appeared on it (No idea where it came from).
So my question (and I have searched around) is there any decent to good fixes for repairing scratches on the digitizer.
Also this other fuze seems like a waste like I might be able to fix it. I have searched and found some good prices on Brando for LCD/Digitizer combos (88 Bucks). But I am next to clueless on how difficult this would be. I have read the service manual as well the site listed on these forum (by the moderator and has all the service manuals on it) on how to take it apart. But I have no electrical experience...I am a software guy myself.
Any help would be appreciated.
It was a sad day indeed when my screen cracked. I had it in my jacket pocket and when I went to get out of my car *crunch* and my heart dropped.
I cracked the LCD just above where the hard keys are, and it sent cracks pretty much all over it.
No problem, I thought. I'll just order a new LCD/Digitizer and replace it.
I got a used one from Hong Kong on Ebay for $20 (showed up in 10 days, pretty fast for HK!)
Checked the manual went through all the steps and got as far as having the front panel detached from the keypad at which point I decided that this was just too friggin' much and I was entirely out of my league of being able to fix this.
With a fear of completely and utterly bricking my phone I put everything back together and crossed my fingers that it would still work when it was re-assembled....naturally when I was putting the back part of the phone on the speaker wires also broke off right where they attach to that little white piece. My efforts to re-attach them failed.
So I'm contemplating selling it to recoop some of the cost on a new phone (looking at the Tilt2) but I'm not really sure what I can expect to get for it. I see people selling totally broke ones on ebay for upwards of $100. I could include the LCD/Digitizer that I have as well, so that someone more technically savvy than I could easily repair it.
Other than the cracked screen and the lack of a speaker for audio the phone is otherwise totally functional. If anyone has any input or advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
If you still have the phone and want to get rid of it, please PM me... I need some parts for me Fuze

i think u can get them for like 40+ dollars off ebay
If you don't mind the long shipping times, you can get a digitizer + the entire housing together for around $60 on ebay. Doesn't seem like a bad deal to me.
#EDIT#
Zombie post . . . sorry about that. Need to remember to look at dates before replying.

I just replace mine, and is wasn't too bad. There is videos on YouTube about how to do it. It took me about an hour, and the part costs about 40 bucks. If you need any help with it, feel free to email me [email protected]

I'm going through the same thing. Amazon has some digitizers for about $40. I decided to spend the extra $20 and get this instead
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004F5CEDW
It's the whole casing. I didn't want to bother with stripping the digitzer off the frame which is glued on. With replacing the whole body, you just move the mainboard over and plug everything back in. At least this is my hope. I'll post here again when the thing actually arrives. I ordered it two weeks ago and it probably won't be here until mid March.
Good luck with whatever you decided to go with.
UPDATE. hmmm october was the post date. I guess this guy has long taken care of his problem
Are there any particular tools needed? I swear my other half is on a mission to destroy her phone. It'd be good to know how to do some of the possible DIY stuff.

There's Youtube videos for disassembly. I haven't watched them myself, but I know they exist, so they probably tell you what tools you need there. From what I remember hearing, just some small torx screwdrivers, or maybe some small phillips, too, but don't quote me on those.
Here is a link to the teardown video I followed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHwm-32BI0w
The amazon link in my previous post is what I bought. It was the whole body. There are just screen replacements but I didn't want to mess with that because the digitizer is glued to the front piece. I didn't want to risk warping or breaking the front piece and completely screwing myself over. Anyway, what I bought came with the tools you need to perform the teardown and an extra screwdriver that was not needed.
I am glad I did this. However, it came with it's share of issues.
-The very top of my digitizer does not work. As a result, I can't pull down the notification bar. I can get to it through the menu button but it is annoying.
-I had to move the ear speaker and loudspeaker over. They were glued to some foam which was stuck/glued to the chassis. That foam absorbed the vibration. When my phone rings loud it is nasty because the speaker is bouncing around. I tried to cut some foam myself to replace what was stuck in the old case. It helped but it's not perfect.
-There are some rubber buffers? Isolators? Not sure what their called which also needed to be moved over form the old case.
-It took a month to ship to my house. After discovering these issues, I am kind've stuck with them because it would take a month to send the parts back and another month to get a replacement. By then I'll be due for a new phone.
So that's my experience of replacing the whole case.
Let me know if you have anymore questions.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
My pleasure. Glad to help out.

To add to this, because I'm sure there are others out there like me who intend to use their Eris until it gets run over, dropped in lava, drawn, quartered, and defecated upon . . .
I ordered the same replacement housing and digitizer as mentioned above, and had 2 small problems:
The housing I got had a nut in it that came loose, so that one of the corners wasn't able to reassemble properly.
There was something different in the new housing that caused the proximity sensor to function incorrectly.
For #1, I just used some super glue to weld the nut into place. This appears to have worked OK, but I fear that the point is weakened now and I will need to be very gentle if I disassemble the phone again.
For #2, The problem was that the housing was allowing bleed through inside the case from the proximity flasher to the light sensor, which caused the sensor to determine that there was something close to it when in fact there wasn't. I placed a small (oh so small) piece of electrical tape into the housing between where the IR flasher and sensor are located, and the problem was resolved.
If presented with the option of purchasing a new digitizer alone, or a new digitizer and housing together, follow groovel76's suggestion; it's well worth the time and money to go with the latter. The hassle of cleaning the old adhesive off of the new housing, and the risks of getting new adhesive in places where you don't want it far outweigh the cost of just getting a housing with adhesive pre-applied. I tried to do just a digitizer first, and ended up with a small amount of super glue (DO NOT RECOMMEND) getting on the new screen and the edge of the housing, as well as a screen that didn't seat properly because I didn't get quite all of the old bits out of the old housing. This resulted in dust getting under the screen and another crack when I attempted to fix what I'd screwed up the first time.
Between the availability of parts and ROMs for this phone, I see it being in my family for a LONG time yet.
Yes! Buy a digitizer online (most come with the tools you need such as the torx screwdrivers, mine did) and search for videos on youtube. That's what I did and it only cost me $37 for the digitizer and about 30 minutes of my time. And it worked perfectly as new when I got it all back together.
As everyone will soon find out, the battery cover is a pain to get open. I spoke to someone with HTC and they said that this is a know issue and it HAS BEEN FIXED, the bad news is that they made 300,000 of them before anyone noticed...
So you have to decide: deal with the battery cover issue, or be an early adopter (I think the choice is quite clear)
The one I opened yesterday at radioshack was no problem to open..stuck my nail in little slot and it opened right up

I'm taking the early, hard way. 11AM tomorrow.
I picked one up at Costco and we gave up at the store after about 10 minutes. I took it home and was able to use my health insurance card (slightly thinner and more flexible than a credit card) to pry the door open, but unfortunately I scratched a small part of the body of the phone while trying other methods At least the insurance card was good for something, because it's not good for actually paying for healthcare!
Ah well, I accidentally dropped my Nexus One shortly after I first got it and put a nice sized scratch in it, so I'll live.
I did find that once I got it off the first time, it's a lot easier now. I can pop it off no problem.
First impressions of the phone itself are that it's awesome. It's a lot faster than the N1 and I'm really liking HTC Sense (this is my first Sense phone).
I used a guitar pick on the second one I tried. No scratches You can use your finger after the first time at least.
Picked mine up today at Costco as well, and practically had to use a screwdriver to open the battery door. Tried so hard with a credit card, and my nails first. End result, nicked the aluminum body, and battery door!
What's the fix? If it's a known issue, with a fix, then maybe new battery doors for the first 300,000.
Watching the YouTube videos of early review units, I knew this would be a problem when I picked ny phone up at Costco on Friday.
One reviewer (I can't remember which one) stated it was easier to open the battery compartment by sticking your thumbnail under the volume down portion of the rocker rather than the notch they give you. I had to use a fair amount of force, but got it open without mangling the cover or scratching the case.
So, for the first time, put your thumbnail under the volume rocker - NOT the groove provided. After a couple of battery swaps, it works just fine.
wish I would have known this earlier, but regardless it is a problem that you shouldn't even have to deal with. The sim cover is so flimsy that it folded in half in the store. Battery door/phone got scratched as well. Returned the phone right there in the store.
Use all fingernails and pry under the volume rocker too. Mine popped right open.
Didn't have any trouble with the battery cover. I did end up with a unit that had a crack on the sim/memory card cover when I bought the phone. I ended up taking it back to Radio Shack and they ended up giving me another phone.
There was someone else there at the same time I was that had the same issue with the sim/memory card cover being cracked.
Both of them looked to be cracked in the same spot. He just had them pull a battery cover off another phone.

It took 3 radio shack employees to open mine up.

I managed to break the screen on my Optimus 3d last night, not sure if it was dropped or ran over. I found it face down in my driveway this morning and to my horror when I flipped it over the screen was completely smashed, however the phone is still working fine, minus the never ending ghost call issue.
What make the situation worse is Rogers just sent me out a replacement phone yesterday and I have to send this one back, in the next couple days.
So I called a repair centre and they wanted $190 to repair the phone, and stated they would need to replace the LCD and the glass screen. I know there is nothing wrong with the LCD screen, phone functions and all colours are good, just has broken glass.
My question is, can I repair just the glass without replacing the LCD? I have found the screen for around $30 on ebay. Based on watching the how to on youtube it doesn't look like too difficult of a job.

First of all , this was asked before. Read the forum. I know because i asked that question.

Carefully read them , especially my posts because i did it.
Where are you from and how fast can you get the replacements off ebay ?
When you get them it'll take about half an hour to fix it.
Nobody will notice unless there's damage to the LCD.
If it has we'll have to change it too.
I can guide you via Skype video calling.
Ok so I have managed to remove the broken screen, it was actually fairly easy my only concern is the part show at the 7:00 minute mark of the video below, was broken when I removed it. The copper tape strip (or whatever it is) is still in tact. Where can I purchase this part? I still have all the pieces and if worst comes to worst I will attempt to very carefully assemble the phone with the broken parts to see if the phone still functions. I'm assuming this is part of what operates the home, search, back and menu buttons.
I have already removed the glue and am going to pick up a new screen from London shortly. I had some adhesive remover and work in a glass shop so I have all the tools and cleaners to ensure my new screen sticks and fits nicely.
After reading the thread you linked I am wondering if the screen they sell in London will will include the outside casing, this would solve all of my problems. I guess I will know soon enough, heading to London now. I will let you guys know how I made out.
Heey if you look on youtube you find couple of videos its not very difficult i did it with a friend of my it takes 20 minutes be carful ^^
Goodluck
You can make do without a front case if you know what you're doing. I lacked equipment so i used alternative methods like shoe glue or blowdryer (which killed the original digitizer)...
No matter what you do they'll recognize if you don't buy it with a front casing though... (Already glued preferably)
I found it in turkey so i don't think you can't find it in london , resources are vast there...
Look around.
Remove the digitizer and check the lcd before heading to london if need be buy it as well.
If you need help you know where to find me...
Cheers!

Ok so I got the new screen installed and everything is working great. I purchased some 3m adhesive at the repair shop which made for a very clean replacement after removing all the old glue with some adhesive remover. Decided to grab a LCD for my brothers LG970 while I was there and repaired it as well.
New phone arrived yesterday evening, so I will be sending this one back this afternoon. The screen replacement is very clean so I'm not concerned about that but I did manage to lose the little speaker cover from the front of the phone, I just plan on telling Rogers it fell of at some point if they ask about it. Considering the phone is in working order with no physical damage besides wear and tear I don't expect an issue from Rogers.
By the way anyone want to purchase the brand new Optimus3d Rogers sent me? Not even taking this one out of the box, selling it and getting the as far away from LG phones as I can.
Thanks for all the help guys.
I could think about buying it but you need to disassemble it and wrap the parts good.
In Turkey it's illegal to buy phones from foreign countries but it's not if you buy not working parts.
So in short i'm gonna con them into thinking it's for parts if you're up to it. PM me the price in your head.
