All versions since rc29 have had the same thing. Rc33 for a while said no. It is basically saying you *can* get root, just need a modified rom.
at last someone finds this.
now lets wait for jf
I have a second G1, it is not rooted, my wife isn't into the rooting thing, but I want to update hers to 1.5 if I am thinking correctly, all i need to do is place the .zip file on her SDCARD and run the installer app correct.
I wonder if they have improved the Stock IM apps.
I was one of the first persons who received the log, and had been trying to figure out the link since 9:30am this morning. But I am in awe of Zinxx, how did he ever figure out the partner part of the link? Nice.. Thanks!

Whats the difference besides (possibly) the stock IM stuff?

MyFaves is quite honestly a waste. This app polls Tmobiles server several times a minute wasting battery life. You can set your faves online and save battery life.

Nice, i already got tired of waiting
All Root Users Just wait for JF33
As this is Original Signed Update Package and will not load on rooted G1 as rooted G1 have Test key Signed Recovery Mechanism.
Good to see it Just on 5th Feb.

For those who cant wait..... Wouldn't it be possible to try it out on emulator? like this http://androidcentral.com/cupcake-android-emulator/??? I dont know if it work, just throwing ideas.
I looked at the file there doesn't appear to be a new mountd.conf or init.rc... Is this an indication that if we've hacked "programs on SD" that this may still work if we apply this update? Just wondering as I would hate to lose that ability because of an update. Otherwise, this is great news... Just copy the file in it's current fashion to the SD or rename update.zip? That's the only other question. Also, no change in the bootloader... Interesting. I'll be excited to see what JF comes up with!!!
This is a Step forward to cupcake as Voice Search, Market Update Facility etc. were planned to be rolled out in Cupcake.
We have to wait for 4 or 5 such Updates to have Cupcake in our Mouth
Damn I just got it & was about to post it up too! Sweet hopefully we have it soon!
I just got my G1 2 days ago and I wanna get RC33. Now my question is, when i follow the instructions from the "Rooting, Hacking and Flashing" thread, can I simply download the RC33.zip instead of downgrading to RC29 then installing the RC33?
If you are not Interested Rooting the Device go on and raname Rc33 zip file to
update.zip and place it in Memory Card and Press Home + Power Button Constantly while booting and load RC33 right into the G1

If you are downgrading to RC29 you are probably wanting to root your phone with an upgrade to a modified RC30.
RC33 was JUST pushed by Tmobile and hasn't been modified yet. Meaning if you go through all that trouble of rooting your phone, you will lose it by going to RC33.
I would suggest if you wanna keep root to wait for a modified version of RC33.

Should have it working for us or just getting the file?
http://androidguys.com/?p=3572
Hey all,
I know I just put up my tutorial on how to do this but hopefully this will make things easier for everyone. I'd still suggest doing a nandroid backup first just to make sure but I tested this on my phone so it should work. Just run the app and if this is the first time moving your apps to your sd card(and you want to keep the ones you have) leave the checkbox checked. Otherwise uncheck it. Then just press the buttons that correspond to what you want to do. Enjoy
In order to use this you MUST:
1: Have an apps-to-sd ROM
2: Have your sd card partitioned correctly with FAT32 first and ext2 second.
3: Have busybox already installed to /system/xbin
NOTE: I'll try to help as much as I can but I can't take responsibility for anything this does to your phone. I'm pretty sure nothing bad will happen and nothing irreparable can happen but gotta say these things just to be sure anytime I'm messing with root permissions.
ANOTHER NOTE: I'll put this up in the market for $1. It'll remain free here but people can donate to me that way.
YET ANOTHER NOTE: I've managed to get a new method working that's a lot more stable and flexible. I will keep this thread here but won't be maintaining it.
EDIT: Moving data is too unstable, I've removed the option. It doesn't force close anymore when you don't have the setup right, it just gives an error and wont let you do anything, so that's better.
Tried it this morning and worked great. You might add a pop up at the end of moving apps to restart the device. When less experienced people use it, they won't know to do that I'm afraid.
the app sends me into abootloop at the htc screen

OH SHOOT!!! I fixed this problem on the market one but forgot to put it back up on here. Umm... for now no1 should use the one posted here, until I can get home and post the updated one. OR if you still want to fix this and don't much just a bit of fiddling in the recovery terminal, after moving apps to sd, restart in recovery mode and do this:
Code:
mount data
ln -s /system/sd/app /data/app
For anyone who cares about such things, the problem is that it deletes the /data/app folder and then makes a symlink, which sounds ok, except that every super user command has to be run through the whitelist app... which no longer exists. So it's not able to set up the link and all hell breaks loose.
i did use the 1 from here
it says ln: /data/app: file exists
if i already had apps2sd, tried to upgrade my phone from 5.0 to 5.01G, so I wiped...then data.img wouldn't flash over...if i do this, will my apps show up again?

ya it's the one from here that's broken, sorry. If you haven't already flashed back and everything(still have the boot loop) then you can use the code I posted and it should fix it. I'll post the updated version tonight when I get back home.

Yes, just uncheck the checkbox. But you might want to read the note that I just posted, there's a known problem with it that has a fix but requires going into the recovery terminal. I'll post the updated version of this app that doesn't have that bug tonight.

you had the "stale NFS handle" right? I'm not really sure what's going on but something in your phone's file system sounds like it went screwy. Maybe someone like JF or LucidREM could help? Your problem goes way over my head and I'm guessing the same is true of a lot of people on here unfortunately.

jf rom
Ok question I know it says apps to sd rom is needed does this mean only haykuro roms? I have a jfrc33 1.42 and I could do apps to sd using this rom (planning on doing it tonight my 8gig class 6 card arrived) so my question is can I just use this app or do I need to do all the steps manually

It should work on any apps to sd ROM. This includes LucidREM's modified JF ROMs. If you're gonna be manually changing it into an apps to sd, then I would think it would work but can't promise it. I wasn't able to figure that out when I tried so I'm not 100% sure that they work the same but I would imagine they would. Again, though, the one posted here has that known bug which will be fixed after I get home from work.
Short answer(s):
Haykuro's ROM: definitely works
LucidREM ROM: Don't have it to test it but almost assuredly works
Self-modified: probably works?
Sounds good I wasn't doing it till later tonight anyways (stuck at work also) also is it still a good idea to keep ext2 parititon less then 2gb like lucid reported on his tutorial

Help
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help the rooting effort on "the droid" Just made the switch from a solid year on the G1 for the service.
I used cp maps.apk /system/apps and it just locked up my g1 on cyan 4.2.3.1
by locked up i mean that it booted past android boot logo but then would just goto black screen, i dont know how maps.apk did this lol
tried pushing facebook.apk and odex to mytouch 3g. Got the black screen with no boot. Had to ADB shell to rm it.
So... dont try that app. Too bad too. im really looking forward to a usable native facebook client! Wish it wasnt 2.0 proprietary

RADIO - the radio is updated through a radio.diff.
SYSTEM - no system/app files are changed
it appears this OTA is much more extensive than the previous OTA.
this one appears to apply small patches to every application in /system/app. a few are large in size, but most are very small.
it also appears to patch:
16 files in system/bin
etc/wimax/
etc/firmware/fw_bcm4329.bin and (ap)
31 files in framework
28 files in lib
2 files in lib/modules - bcm4329.ko and sequans_sdio.ko
SYSTEM updated files (might be more, researching now):
wifi module - BCM4329B1_002.002.023.0396.0402.hcd
android.hardware.camera.flash-autofocus.xml
android.hardware.telephony.cdma.xml
ton of framework files
libCamera_donut.so
libCamera_eclair.so
Fixes & Bugs:
From user npace: (I extracted and fastboot flashed the kernel zImage. Here's a rundown of the issues that I tested for fixes
1. Touch input lag -- fixed -- tried with multitouch visualizer 2
2. Improperly grounded touchscreen -- fixed -- tried on multiple surfaces
3. 30 fps cap -- still there

Even if you rooted via toasts method, i would not update until a custom ROM is put out with the update included. You could lose root ability forever.
Anyone know the location of system updates are stored on the phone? I am trying to locate using the adb shell but have had no luck finding the download yet.

I'd recommend not installing it at all until the devs here have had a chance to go through it and release it themselves. You risk loosing your root if you don't. Then follow their release instructions to apply it.
Btw the radio is 2.05.00.06.10 with this update.

I don't care if I lose root. I assume this update doesn't reinstall Sprint junk, so I'm good to go. That was the only reason why I wanted root access...

No, looks like just about all the preloaded APK's are in there, including the Sprint crap. I assume if you apply it as stock you'll get them back, but I could be wrong.

The official froyo release from HTC / Sprint will definitely contain all the "Sprint Junk" and if you've given up root to one of these updates and go to apply that it will all come back. You may never get root again in order to re - clean it up once you apply froyo.
Be patient. It won't take the devs here long to cook up an update for us. Flipz had the rooted .6 update rom out in 24 hours or so...
.....
Just took a look inside the zip file. All the apk files are there, including the sprint junk...
Just installed....all is well with root...
Here it is.
It took me about an hour to download it so I figured I'd upload it for those of you who don't want to wait/want to play around with the files.

I just finished downloading and uploaded it to my google drive because I don't have dev status on ADF yet.
Here it is.
I haven't been able to install it yet because I have to re-flash the OA2 firmware before it will install.

Needed to request access, but thanks for bringing this to my attention. Where'd you see the NU had a LP update, I'm not seeing it on any of the usual websites?

Thanks got it you're the man! :good:
Crap I got a corrupted download on two different computers, error message: "C:\Users\MyName\Downloads\update.zip: Unexpected end of archive" and the zip only has a META-INF folder, and what I assume is supposed to be the updater-script is named, "androà+g" and contains only the following:
Code:
post-build=samsung/matissewifiue/matissewifiue:5.0.2/LRX22G/T530NUUEU1BOE5:user/release-keys
post-timestamp=1431596177
pre-build=samsung/matissewifiue/matissewifiue:4.4.2/KOT49H/T530NUUEU1AOA2:user/release-keys
pre-device=matissewifiue
Although it is nice to know the build number lol (OE5).

Thats.. odd..
The file I uploaded is the same file I used to update.
I just got done installing it after doing it the long way because I didnt want to wait another 1hr+ for it to redownload.
Here's my "long ass method"
1. I reflashed OA2
2. Flashed the rootable kernel
3. Towel rooted
4. Used a ES File Explorer to copy the update.zip from my sd card to data/fota
5. Flashed the OA2 kernel
6. Installed SuperSU, didnt let it update the binary, then used the Full Unroot option
7. Rebooted and it informed me that it had the update ready to install when I checked for updates again.
You may just have to deal with the forever long download.
EDIT: Although I just tried to open the original update.zip on my computer and it gives me errors too saying it can't open it, it's not a valid archive file, blah blah, etc. It may flash if you do my method tho. The worst that could happen is it would fail mid-update.
Oh and fyi, as expected, the TWRP root method works.

This is what I suspected/was afraid of. Thanks for the response, and listing your steps, I figured something like this was the scenario, now I know for sure. Oh well, I'll just have to wait to do the update when I actually have some free time :silly:
Also thank you very much for confirming TWRP root method works, that'll make my life a lot easier, and I'm sure a flood of users will be glad to learn that soon
It is odd that the build number is OE5 cus if I'm not mistaken, that's the highest build number of any of Samsung's tablets right now. Even the Tab S. lol. I guess it was worth the few weeks we had to wait.
