I have been reading threads here and I can't find an answer to my question.
I have an ATT Captivate running ATT 2.2. I ran the super one click app and have superuser available for the apps. I have rom manager free edition but no matter what I try I cannot get it to flash the Clockworkmod Recovery. When I try to flash it I get the message that it's been succesfully downloaded but never get the succesful flash.
I've spent a big part of the day at this and can't figure out why this isn't working. ANY ideas would be appreciated.
TIA, Jeff

It won't actually be flashed to your device. It creates an update.zip file on your internal sd card. What you have to do to get into clockwork is turn your phone off, hold down vol up+vol down+power until you see the AT&T logo show up on the screen. When you see the logo show up, release power but keep holding the volume keys. This will take you into the regular stock recovery. Once you are there, select the 'reinstall packages' option. The phone should reboot, at which point, hold down the volume keys again to get back into the stock recovery. Once it boots into stock recovery for the second time, select 'reinstall packages' again and it should put you into clockworkmod this time around.
At one time in all my trying I've been thru this as well. When I select reinstall packages I get:
E: Failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I really want to get away from this ATT 2.2. I waited for the ATT upgrade but since it still won't support bluetooth voice dial I'm going to go this route if I can get it to work.

Oh right, totally forgot about that. It's been forever since I've flashed stock 2.2.
You can either follow the guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213
Or you can simply flash back to 2.1 using this and do what I said in my original post:

It is a way to do it but Odin can easely brick a phone if not used right.
It's alot easier to just prompt the command (.bat) from our computer with our phone plugged in debugging mode and let it do its magic. Takes a few seconds and it's done
Waiting for bootloader to INITIALIZE ???? Cant get pass that what do i do?? my phone wont turn on all of a sudden so im trying the NvFlash again i can hear the computer find the phone when i hold Vol up&Down and plug the phone in is that a good thing guys that i can hear that sound??

yes that means its not bricked at least... now you just have to do the process right lol
Making two posts in development that do not belong here will not help your cause...
So where should a post about a development problem be if not in a ''Development" Room??
ok so what should i do ? is it a must to have the Sd card in to fix my problem and when i hold the up and down i dont get the update thing on the screen why is that and how do i get it? My Atrix was not this hard lol
So a sd card is needed to get past the waiting screen ?
wow more and more people posting in areas they shouldn't maybe if you did a search you would find your answer since i know this has been looked at already. there is even a video out on how to flash clockwork and you still fail. come on people use search.

Development area is for if you Develop an app, rom, mod, fix, etc...
Your issue is not a development issue, its a personal one.
Please post in General.
That being said, I have never seen that issue before.....
Waiting for bootloader to init... ouch!!!
You can try to flash Recovery back on your phone. Enter recovery and do a nandroid restore. Yes you will need an external SDCard. But without a boot loader I think you may be bricked. What did you really do to get this issue?
Did you flash the firmware from another phone?
Once again if you havn't developed anything please make your posts in General for this kind of issue. Otherwise you clutter this thread and make it hard for others to find apps, roms, etc.. here

He flashed recovery first and then rooted his phone. Instead of rooting and then flashing recovery. Please poeple read instructions first before you do anything. Read through the posts as much as possible to prepare yourself for anything that may come up. Do not assume all the instructions are on the first post most of the time they are but sometime you must read through the post and multiple post.

yep, exactly what i did. I even used the video site provided.
So yours wont turn on as well if so how did you fix it??
Hi all,
I'm having an issue and hope someone can point me to the right direction (thanks).
I followed the all the steps from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052064) and after the rom manager asked me to reboot my phone and it went into the endless boot looping. The LG screen show up for around 15 seconds and went back to do the same thing over and over again.
Here are what I've tried so far.
1. Remove the battery to turn back on and issue still persist
2. Tried using the Power button + Volumn down to boot into recovery mode. What it did here was the screen shows the android guy jumping out of the box for around 20 seconds and the screen turn off, then the LG login screen comes back doing it things again.
I have very limited knowledge on android base so I'm not sure what else to try to get my phone back to life again.
I had a post on that thread to ask some other people in there but they seem to ignore my post so if anyone here could help me please, I would appreciate it.
Did you nvflash recovery? If so reflash the stock rooted rom (or any other you want). If you didn't nvflash the recovery you going to have to now to fix the situation..

Unfortunately, I don't think he can do that if he can't boot into recovery at all.
@justin
I had the same problem with my old G2, I couldn't boot into recovery and ended up getting a new phone because no one knew what to do to fix it. Since you didn't use Nvflasher to flash clockworkmod recovery, you can't boot into recovery manually, you have to use the ROM manager app to boot into recovery.
I'm not sure what you can do to fix it honestly, I spent days searching for answers

I'm not taking a shot at your english but from the sounds of it you rooted, you had a custom ROM installed? and then you put in your sim and re-ran the hack kit? I'm not 100% sure what you actually did but if the hack kit ran and you were rooted and using the rcmix rom, running the hack kit again is explicitly stated not a good idea and will jam you up. If you did this, consult the IRC chat room in the OP of the Hack Kit Thread, I'm sure attn1 and those guys have seen this situation before.

Can you get to hboot by powering up holding volume down and power button at the same time. Ifso see if it is s-off? If so you might be able to enter rocovery this way and flash a rom.
Usually when I have an issue with a rom or phone I flash the stock rooted att rom (pd98 zip) and start over with changing the rom. Sorry I can't give you the zip file I'm on the road all day today but if you search q&a section you will find it.
Hope it helps.

what it sounds like this user did was ran the hack kit and rooted fine (assumption), the mention of the RCmix ROM makes me believe he installed the ROM and then realized the SIM card wasn't in, so for some reason he/she ran the hack kit again? which if you read the OP of the hack kit, Attn1 explicitly states don't do that or you will get jammed up. I'm assuming Attn1 can fix this quickly since I imagine this issue has happened on more then one occasions and he'll be a better resource to fix this rather then us trying to troubleshoot this from the trial and error side. But if this user cannot get into the IRC chatroom, there isn't much more any of us can do.

agreed. if people dont research HOW to root the phone, likely they dont know WHY to root the phone.
So if I can enter HBOOT. but when I try to enter recoveryel phone does the same. htc logo appears and disappears until it almost off the screen ..
and yes is it s-off.
There's a thread at the top of the Inspire General forum that explains exactly how to fix this. It's been there for a month. Do your research and you'll find the answers you need.
If the rooting process worked correctly.
Here is the rooted updated ATT Gingerbread ROM. Just place PD98 in root of SD card then go into bootloader and let it do its thing. When it ask to install volume up for yes. AS ADVICED " RESEARCH"
Place it in the root of your SD card (you will have to remove SD card and use adapter to move zip file to root of SD card if PC does not recognize phone with USB cable) and power phone off then power back up holding down power button and volume down button at same time. Phone should go to bootloader then it will recognize the PD98 zip file and ask if you want to istall. Volume up for yes and it will do its thing. No need to try to get into recover phone will do it itself with the PD98 zip file. Zip is (ATT ROM 2.47.502.7 w/Radio - 26.10.04.03_M)
This is for Rooted Stck ROM
http://www.fileserve.com/file/RtVn4Re/PD98IMG.zip
NO NEED TO RENAME JUST DOWNLOAD AND PLACE IN ROOT OF SD
Hope it helps
PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT ANYTHING ON YOUR PHONE IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING.

Then you can flash a custom ROM if you like.
Been there
same thing happened to me, tried flashing cm7, it got stuck in an infinite loop so I did the same thing and had to get a new phone.
Just make up an alibi don't tell them u rooted and make sure there is no damage to ur phone. They just gave me a refurb phone and now I am using RCmix3d.
my parents took my phone away, spending too much time on it lol

either way, never really understood why some users post information to a dead thread that has been covered? Then again, I contribute to the problem by bringing it up. Then again you also contribute to the problem by calling me out. I'll yield to seniority though. Google is a great tool.

nah never use rom manager, download 4ext recovery updater app (google it) then open the app and flash 4ext recovery. Then go find a rom u like, download it, put it on ur sdard, boot into recovry like i said before, phone off - vol down + power then in bootloader select recovery by pressing volume buttons to move and press power button to enter recovery. Once in recovery (backup ur phone if u want by selecting backup/restore/ backup) then go to
wipe/format/
format all partitions except sdcard
then install from sdcard and flash rom
I already have 4ext recovery. So now I will follow thw rest directions. thanks

science is a cruel misstress -my friend
everything that happens to the systems our devices are running today,
is burried inside their treacherous dependances, file names, vacabulary,...
how otherwise- do you think- developers existing on these (and other ) forums ,
would have been able to mod a single thing,
without plunging- with no mercy for their time or effort- deep inside the lines of code,
that are burried deep beneath an average user`s interests and whereabouts...
Do not mind me saying this, for i mean no offense to your dignity-
but this is a developer`s site, and the sooner a newbe learns- the better...
