Forum responses (None or too complicated)

Hello everybody on XDA developers,
I found a lot of useful information on this site, don't get me wrong BUT.
More and more I'm getting under the impression that new topics often get no or little replay because the user is either a newbie or he asked a question which has been asked before. Now, I'm no newbie although I'm not an expert either. I asked several questions and the responses are poor.
There is so much information (most of the time too complicated for non computer specialists) that it is often easier to launch a new topic. However, if one doesn't talk or know about, changing .nbf files, writing Batch files replacing HimaUpgradeUT.exe files and only God knows what else, you get little or no response.
The day somebody asks me, in some aviation forum, about the pressure changes in a JET engine which is going from SUBSONIC to SUPERSONIC flight or the aerodynamic effects on a helicopter rotor which is going into autorotation or other pilot related stuff, will get an answer adapted to his knowledge so he will understand what I'm saying. What else is the use of a forum?
Maybe XDA-developers should add a forum for the "less gifted" in the Forum index.

well maybe if the problem is that the specialists have little patience or problems transfering their knowlage into something mear humans can understand the new forum would just have a pile of unanswered threads
i think the problem you address are really 2 problems
1
general pocketpc questions mainly i think from people who are used to cellphones and cant call themselfs superusers on normal pc's they need it explained in a cellphone kinda way. these are questions like
how do i make IE stop displaying pictures and stuff like that

people who dont really know that much about complex stuff like changing their rom and manualy intering all the grps settings, in the new rom
and adding things to their extented rom and such
these people often would mostly benefit from a guide with pictures and possible a list of the most used cellphone company settings

I'm not sure I understand your first point, but I do agree on your second one.
Now we only need someone with lots of time and motivation to make such guidelines with step by step instructions and pictures...

I have a Qtek 9100 with wm5, when I start it up it reads:
Ipl 2.17.0001
Spl 2.17.0001
Gsm 02.07.10
Os 2.17.7.2
I would like to upgrade it to WM6 and maybe add some of the new features of the HTC touch. I love the wizard and refuse to give up the keyboard but would like to have some of the functionality of the touch. I can hack a pc just fine but have never messed around on a mobile before. I do not want to brick this thing. I have PHM registry editor installed on my wizard. I was hoping someone had a clear cut answer on how to upgrade my device to WM6 and install some cool apps along the way. I love reading the many posts on this great site, I have learned alot. If anyone can help out this newbie I would be forever grateful.

Thanks for the reply, I have determined that I have G4 unlocked model. Now the next question that I have is do I need to upgrade my existing rom before installing a WM6 rom. If not do you have any suggestions on which WM6 rom to install?

Did you mean CID Unlocked G4? If you are not sure then look for shell tool and follow some others in G4 forum.

I checked and it is CID unlocked, so my next question is which WM6 rom should I use? Does anyone know if the new "touch" applications will work on a g4 model? I have searched through the G4 postings and I have not found anything on this.

I think NBD 7.4 is the best WM6 "touched" rom...
But I don't know if it's working on G4 wiz....

G3 and G4 have nothing different apart from the boot chip. So it should work (I may be wrong but you can safely give a try).

Don't remember who shared this, but I thought it would be appropriate here:
The members of this forum are advanced users, and they are expecting this from other members too. Thus if you don't want to lose your face in front of the other members, I suggest you try to solve your problems yourself first, and then search on this forum and even on the whole internet, and if then you still couldn't solve your problem, the link 'Post reply' or the link 'New thread' on this forum are there for you...So you will be sure that the problem you couldn't solve, isn't just something explained before and other members of this forum won't laugh at you...
The members with very high post count will not always be able to help you out in the best way...It is very easy to post hundreds of replies every day, but it's much harder to post so many useful replies! Sometimes you will see a thread becoming very long, thanks to some users willing to thank someone over hundreds of time. Of course, it is very polite to thank someone that helped you out, but you will see that all those thank you and other useless post are making it very hard for you and other members to find the posts that really will help you out of your little problem...So, an other suggestion for you is that you only post what really matters, that way, you will very soon be so popular in this forum and on any other forum that you might get famous by a lot of people and a lot of people might even remember you every time they are using their Pocket PC...wouldn't that be great??!
So, now you got a little introduction to this forum I'm sure you will find out your way and make it to the 'Search' button just on top of every page on this forum. Then, a new world will open for you, you will be able to find tons of information, more than ten or twenty thread are just on the subject what you where asking for and you will see that while you are searching, you will very soon get a little frustrated to find more than ten times exactly the same instructions to solve your problem. I am sure, very soon we will see some replies from you asking other members to just use that little search link before posting a question that was solved ten times before on this forum...

Splash Screen for new ROM

Hi All
Hope this hasnt been asked before but i have looked and cant find anything about this. I have developed a ROM which i am testing at the moment and i am wanting to replace the "windows 6.1" green splash Screen with a custom one. Which tools do i need to do this?

Thanks for your reply. I have tried the splash tool but this changes the initial boot screen rather than the second boot screen with "windows mobile 6.1" on it. anyone know how i can change this?

Thanks Google !

I think you might be talking about the welcomehead96.png file in Windows - that's the green Windows 6.1 screen. Just find it in your kitchen and replace it with another 320x320 png file.
Edit: Not meaning to be harsh Lindsaydr, but I've seen a few threads started by you recently where the answer was fairly readily accessible in the forum (and you PMed me a question because I didn't answer within 45 minutes on my thread). You've got 51 posts (at the moment) and have started 12 threads all asking questions where the answer already existed. I know we all want answers as quickly as possible, but if people get sick of doing your searching for you, you will find they're not willing to help you when you run into a problem that hasn't got an answer already. Like I said, not meaning to have a go, please take this in the spirit of friendly advice as it was typed.

WM 6.1 for TyTn II

I just found this site and I really want to upgrade my HTC TyTn II with WM 6.1.
I understand that on this site aloooooot of people are writing there own application and changing the org. RAM etc etc.
I wounder WHAT RAM I should install, the official Microsoft 6.1 or...

since you are new....1st thing to do before asking a question is use the forum search function and/or go to the wiki page for your device most of your questions if not all can be answered by doing those two things...

I'm going to give you the best piece of advice I can. Don't forget the name GSLEON3. I have a feeling you might need him in the near future.

Well, you won't be changing ANY RAM for years bud. No offense, but that would take a lot of address work to alter the ram alotment.
You're best friend is the wiki, & the second post on the page called Start Here.
Now I don't expect to see another question for at least 5 days to a week, becuase if you are that new, you've got a bit of reading to do.
Start with the basics & learn about roms, radios, & basic tools that make flashing & cooking possible.
DO NOT PLAY WITH THINGS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. If you're not comfortable with a process or don't understand it, DON'T DO IT! Ohh, & one last though, never trust a solution that is just flash it!
Red, read, read, understand...Then HardSPL before you even think of flashing anything.

My RAM doesn't fit!!!!
I'm so sorry that I didn't get to chime in earlier but I was changing the RAM on my Tilt and totally screwed up trying to fit my Laptop RAM into my phone. I couldn't find the Wiki on how to fix it. Can I tether it using Active Sync?

Fist of all Im Not insulting anybody... This is for our BENEFIT.
After some post and time, in XDA general forum Im exposing this problem:
We have too much BRICKED Devices in wizard forums, cause our devices have too DOC CHIP Flash versions inside and the people dont reads enough information, to know where to go and ask whatever they think. So We suggest a solution... when somebody register on the forum it must be some fill spaces about his device like ours... but it is imposible!!! and they are right, the reason is We cant obligate everybody to do this, even if is an important Info to avoid damages.
So... Flar (MOD) told me that we can get a Stickie Thread to let knows to everybody in wizard forums to fill their signature with the information we need to answer their questions, its a great Idea!!!!
So the hope is the last thing to die....
PLEASE EVERYBODY FILL YOUR SIGNATURE WITH YOUR DEVICE INFO​
So let me tell you what Info is important to fill in:
Device Model Provided if not in front cover under the battery in the label that say the IMEI and serial (If you want the name that carriers use, I think is not important but i see some people wit his HTC UNIVERSAL using Roms for wizards!!!) BRICKED PDA!!!
IPL and SPL version, provided by a softreset on the second screen(this info is shown on the second splash screen when device boots)
Radio version provided too in the second splash screen (when the phone starts or boot after the softreset under the name GSM!)
OS Version its shown again in the second splash screen (are just number like 1.0.0.0. or something like that)
The Rom you are currently using, Developer and Windows mobile version too, give to the chefs his fame and reputation too!!! they deserve lots of congrats even the ROM is ugly... cause it costs too much than a bricked device. if you have an original ROM please provide the link to it and all the info.
CID/SIM locked or unlocked SuperCID(G3), softSPL or HardSPL (G4) if you never do the unlock process on tutorial... You Are locked!!!
Its important that you read carefully the wiki Cause it has so much informatino like knowing about your DOC CHIPSET G3 or G4 (IPL, SPL can do it too) there is some Faq Manual if you can read a little too.

See on the upper lever bar of this web it says... USER CP click it and then on the Left bar see the option Signature... to edit your info

I filled mine in a while back, for the same reason you suggest. When someone is talking about a ROM, it's nice to know what they are using.

There are certainly cases where this could save troubleshooting time; I hope that your thread is educational. However, some of us are clever enough to provide necessary info when seeking help but avoid spamming the forum with a huge signature when it serves no purpose.

Great idea, I ALWAYS thought this should have been right under a poster's
name and FORCED to be filled out just like your user name and password.
This will make things easier for most people. Although, I wish some people who get right of those giant signature pictures! Shameless, self-promotion SORRY, I voted for you to go to hell in the poll anyways!

I like my siggy as it is, however, if I have issues, I make certain I give ALL necessary info. Some who come here don't always realize that this info, whether listed in the thread posting, or in their siggy is vital for us to be able to help them. I don't think it should be REQUIRED in the siggy, but do absolutely agree that it needs to be put in the post!!
For those new to xda...an example of how to post for help without device specifications in the siggy...
TITLE- Bricked phone after spilling coffee on it (don't just say Help, bricked phone, give us a brief insight)
THREAD POST- Help I bricked my phone and am freaking out! I have a Wizard with IPL/SPL 2.26 (insert your info, found when booting, or in settings) and am running a custom rom by NTS--Jag 3.1 (insert name and chef of your custom rom, or tell us if it is stock). My radio is 2.37 (insert your radio, again found when booting or in settings). I spilled coffee on my device after dropping my phone and my coffee when I caught my significant other making out with our dog AND my best friend...or whatever you did to brick your phone. I have taken these steps to fix it...first I kicked my significant others ass, then I kicked my best friends ass, next I cried, then I prayed really hard that my phone wasn't dead, finally I tried to hard boot it...but it will not even go to the tri-color boot screen (insert steps you already took to remedy issue, and results you got from your actions). Am I screwed? Thank you in advance for your help.
PS- if you bricked your Wizard trying to install a custom rom...DID YOU UNLOCK YOUR DEVICE FIRST USING DIRECTIONS GIVEN IN STICKIED THREAD??? We need to know this info too, if it pertains to your devices issue.

very usefull men! you will se the difference.

I agree this is a great thing. But my opinion is that it should be space limitated. Because some users do not have sensitive ratio. And it is always hard to orientate through the posts if signatures are much bigger than the posts itself So i made my signature (because it is very useful), but i made it discreet...

ask to mods or administrators please... maybe you dont have the correct extension .jpg or gif or bmp... check the file size and dimentions too..

Maybe there is a way to add space in our edit your details page to fill this information.
Then it could be extracted and placed on the title of our posts between out name and the service provider information like this:

Senior Member ................IPL and SPL version ........................Location:

but it means redraw the CP... the Post design and it tooks too many time and efforts by the administrators of the site.
And they say it is not highly important for all devices you know some devices dont need to show this info cause is not relevant to ask for something (well I understands that) but is a nice point of view.
