Reset loop... PLEASE HELP! - General Topics

Ok... to put it in terms of old school basic, here's what I created:
10 GOTO 10
I have a mort script to change the moon phase image which loaded in the startup folder in windows, which was working beautifully.
I wanted to have a script to do a soft reset daily.
I tried to install one found elsewhere in the forum, but kept getting errors.
Then I thought... hmmm that moon phase script only goes off once a day, I'll just add "reset" at the end of that one.
And right before I hit the reset button, the nagging thought pops in saying "Boy I hope this doesn't cause a loop..."
Since you read the title, you already know what happened.
So... after searching around, I didn't see anthing that would tell me how to interrupt the boot process to prevent that script from running.
Thanks in advance.

Ooops.
I did something similar. I had luck though, because I had safe mode (which is a feature of SPB Mobile Shell, I think) and that helped me.
I'll keep my thumbs crossed for you.

Since lots of people read my post, yet couldn't offer a suggestion to fix it... I tried flashing the ROM, in the hopes it would solve the problem.
Which it did.
So now you know what to do if you're ever in the same position.

wizard problem pls take a look

i'm using a htc wizard with the tnt 5.0 rom, it's been running amazingly fast and smooth, i love it but all of the sudden in the past week, i can't really figure out why but, i reset(soft) my phone once and it sat there forever on the wm6 splash, so i pulled the battery for a few seconds, and reinserted and turned it on, it came on fine, the clock/calender is set to some random time and random day/month of 2006, and if i set the clock to correct date/time/year the hourglass type thing shows up and stays there for a while, i press end and it goes away, but the phone runs super slow, so i soft reset and then it sits there, at wm6 splash and never finished booting up even after 20 minutes, so i pull battery, and repeat, minus chanigng the clock and if i leave the date/time to 2006, it works fine, does this make any sense to anyone? how can i fix this possibly ?
Please make your text readable....
Have you tried to reflash your phone?
it makes vague sense but you need to work on your grammar a little
Reflash your phone, make sure you followed all the steps. Thats all i can recommend until you put more info in a reply
I'm going to try re-flashing it, but as far as working on my grammar, I don't see how anyone would have any problems understanding what I typed. lol. Unless of course english isn't your first language ?
Maybe the problem is so abnormal there isn't much more info I can include to make any more sense. I described exactly what the problems were.

Surely you Jest. There wasn't a single Period (.) in your entire first post. Apparently you realized and corrected that error in your second post. But to claim that there was nothing wrong with it was wrong.
Flash with an official ROM, that should take care of the issue
yeah it happened to me once or twice. I just reset the date.
No grammar problems. Very understandable for one single, long run-on sentence. Really this isn't Language Arts. I had NO PROBLEM understanding you.
I'd do a HARD reset before I resorted to reflashing.
Maybe you should pay a SINTAX for your lack of SYNTAX hehe
I understood because I encountered the same problem. Except I encountered it because my phone was CPU-scaled at a time I didn't know how and I had a heavy start-up program running.
So far the only solution was that I reflash to official ROM, then back to cooked ROM. And now every time I reboot my device, I'm mindful of the 3rd boot loading time.
Therefore I just believe that you have to be mindful about the stuff that's on your phone and see what contributes to a slow or non-responsive boot time. Our phone's are computers, and therefore computer's never last.
I can't understand for the life of me why some of are flaming this guy for making a run on sentence... Last time I checked this wasn't 12th grade english class, it was a forum for a bunch of WM fanatatics to gather together and create great things.... I mean come on...
And to reply to the first post, I could understand you 100% for the record.
I think you need to hard-reset your phone. Just hold the comm manager and voice button while resetting with your stylus and press the send key when it prompts you to. Simple enough.

eject your storage card before resetting, and put it back after your device started up completely...this will not always help, but it did work for me

Keyboard

Had my TP for just over 2 months now and when i slide out the keyboard to write a sms i start typing and nothing shows up, the curors doesn;t even more along as i type. It will only sometimes work in Notes and i used excel earlier today and had to type and the curosr moved along with each button press but wouldn;t show the text. I had to move down a row to actually see what I typed.
Thanks
Regards,
Neil
mine did the same thing
when I first got mine a few weeks ago, it did the same thing. I cant tell you what caused it happen though
I search through all of the programs I had installed that effect performance and eventually did a hard reset and it started working normally.
I also had an issue with programs running very slow and the tf3d lagged bad. You should flash your rom, it makes a world of difference. If you decide to do it, look through all of your installed programs from the factory rom and make a list of what you want to keep... not all roms have everything you need installed. Then just download all the programs back to your new rom. I used NATFs V2.3 and am really happy with it.
BTW I am a newb and have never done anything like that to a phone before... I just followed the instructions on the Rom development page (sticky) and it was a breeze.
you should do it
Thanks Mike for your help.
What worries me is what would I do if for any reson I need to send the phone back to Vodafone?
I have asked for a link to the defaul Vodafone Touch Pro rom on here but nothing has turned up.
I am also just worried about doing the whole flashing thing as I just don;t really want to break it
If you follow the steps in the stickies, you wont mess up your phone. I am not sure about the vodaphone rom... would it really matter to the company what rom you have if you warranty is covering a broken component of the phone. Just drop it in a bucket of water and claim the insurance taht way??? Maybe someone else can chime in.

Original Registry Settings for Touch Pro

Hey guys,
I hate for my first post here to be a problem, but while trying to get Wargus running on my Touch Pro I changed the registry setting for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEDriversConsoleOutputTo to 0 to use PocketCMD.
While browsing around trying to figure out why PocketCMD won't display text unless I scroll up or down, I found someone who said they managed to kill their Pro after reboot by changing the value to 0, like the instructions said. Before I reboot I was hoping to change it back to the original value so that I don't have this problem.
They claimed that by doing this, it caused the console to come up on boot and they were unable to continue past this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I just got this a few days ago and would hate to have already killed it .
just do a hard reset....
That is what I ended up doing. I was just hoping I wouldn't have to lose all my contacts and installs I had already entered. I guess I have learned my lesson to backup the registry before messing around. Thanks anyway, though.
Whenever I do a hard reset, I save all my contacts to my sim card, or I do a back up with HTC data back up.
Here is the backup tool I use
Thanks, I will probably end up using that regularly. The problem I was having before is that WM wouldn't boot far enough for me to do anything from the phone. It came up with a console menu once the task bar loaded, displayed some diagnostic info and then froze.
I guess this would be a seperate topic as well, but what console do you use for the Touch Pro since the registry editing needed to run PocketCMD causes the phone to freeze on boot?

My HTC Touch HD also freezes at a same way because of the same situation.
How is it possible to install/use this tool since it freezes around at the 5th second after boot?

Ut-Ohhh...Doomed to a hard reset? Process System Not Responding

Anyone ever see the message "Process system not responding". Here's the story.
Well, I've been installing apps like a loose cannon, figuring I may be dooming myself to a hard reset, and it may have come to pass.
Last thing that happened while the phone was running good, was I ran the demo of the 3D game XXXXXXXXX. I received a call, and had to hop away, and after that the phone became unresponsive. Looking at what was loaded with Advanced Task Killer, I did not see the game to kill, so I turned off the phone.
Now, it is taking a very long time to 'boot'. The Phone is Locked screen would pop up, and I'd try to slide it off, and it would slide about half off. Screen black except for the clock of the lock screen. And after sliding off half way, the screen would go black, as if it was off, but then the lock screen would come back.
Kept thinking that ultimately it would finish. After a bit I got the task bar at top, and it was saying preparing internal memory'Preparing Internal Mass Storage"; then finally " Media scanner running". Finally a few icons from the dock. But everything else still black.
Then finally it would come up with a big message "Sorry!. Process system is not responding. buttons for Force close, and Wait. I don't know if that is an Android message, or an app message. I tried force close, and it went back into the same iteration of events.
So the next time i tried a boot, I did not respond to the message for a while, and it seemed to be making progress behind the message. It went off, I turned it back on, it had lock screen, moved it off a bit easier.
Then finally it came up more screen things in place. Then again with a message "Process system is nto responding". Let it set 'til it went off again. This time it came up a bit futher, and this time it came up with window to select launcher. I selected TWiz launcher. Process message again, and I killed it this time.
Whewh...Still not resolved.
I guess if there are any suggestions short of hard reset, i'm interested in hearing. maybe one of you have had this happen. If it ever finishes loading, first thing I'm going to do is remove that game.
One thing that is a pain and I think contributes, is that so many apps load by default it seems. And the more you install the more that happens, from what I have seen. I know I don't have as many apps installed as I've seen others reference, but I do have 2-3 different memory type utilities that I've wondered if they woudl interfere with each othre, but they supposedly don't all load at boot.
Post long enough. I'll add more if I find anything interesting.

Well, the above post exactly describes what I have on my Captivate as well. Long boot times, "process system not responding", black screens, media scanner running/completed repeatedly, severe lagging...
Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this issue? I've uninstalled my most recent apps, but it has not made any difference. Many thanks for any guidance!
Sounds like both of you need to restore to stock...Look in the Dev section for the Stock Odin3 1 click post..it is a sticky so it should be up towards the top..Follow the instructions and you will be back to stock...
The problems I mention above occur mostly during a reboot. The phone does eventually come up, with only occasional lagging still left (which may be more typical). I am torn between dealing with the lagging until Froyo is released (hopefully later this month) or perform the "restore to stock" you mention.
If I decide to "restore to stock", does that mean I lose everything? apps, messages, config, customizations, etc.
And if I lose everything, can I restore some apps with Titanium Backup? TB was loaded 2-3 weeks ago and I do have a full backup.
When Froyo comes, will it require the same or will it upgrade the existing OS and leave apps alone?
Many thanks for your response jhernand1102
I did that too, I sett a replacement lock screen wrong (because it asked me too) and there I was with out s phone for a few hours. The one click odin didn't work for me though. So I used the updated stock rom jh2 i believe. Look for the stock rom threads in developers forum as well as the one click odin.
If the one click odin doesn't work feel free to pm me with questions on the other rom.
Make sure you read it but they is a lot there that may confuse you.

With titanium backup you should be fine. I haven't used it but that's the point of it. A reflash may be easier the finding the error and correcting the problem. And during any flash you may have some risk of losing something but I don't think, going to froyo will lose apps by design. Anyway you have titanium backup and samsung kies to help you keep everything.
Good luck!

I guess I forgot to post back what I had to do...having had no replies at all. I think I ended up in another thread.
Anyway...I did in fact have to reflash. Using the one-click which I believe is this thread is what I used.

Thanks to all for replying today! I will go ahead and re-flash to stock. I was hoping it would be longer (a few months) before I'd have to re-load, but I guess when you live on the edge (root and lots of installs), ya gotta be ready for things to go wrong.
I do love this phone though and Android after being on a BB for so many years! It is pretty much a 1.0, so we should expect bugs and work arounds until they work the kinks out. In a crazy sort of way, it is still fun to work through these gotchas. Thanks again!
Yeah. I really hated the idea of a reflash.
but, if you haven't yet, you need to look in the DEV thread, and look into Clockwork Mod and Rom Recovery. As well, you should get teh paid version of Titanium backup.
Between those two things, occasional reflash and reload is not too painful.
I've learned so much today! Got the paid version of Titanium Backup for an easy "restore all via batch" and also did the ROM Mgr / Clockwork Recovery (thanx ewingr). So, I now have the best of both worlds for getting out of a jam and looking forward to trying out any new ROM's that may come out; with ease thanks to these apps!

Plagued by Blacked Out Login Pages

Hi guys,
I'm having the strangest issue that is currently effecting two of my devices.
One is an htc Glacier and the other a htc OneV
Both devices are running KitKat 4.4 and both are unofficial ports of the carbon rom by cyanogen.
Now to my problem, and as the title reads, it's to do with my login pages.
All of my apps and the OS also have a blacked out vale over sign-in pages.
The page it's self is properly loaded, but I cant see most of it, an example is the outlook app, on it's login page, I can see the top blue header saying to add this "type" account, but beneath that is complete black. If I tap around the screen I can randomly access a dialog box that opens the keyboard, but I still don't actually know what I clicked or what is typed.
Making it almost impossible to sign-in to anything.
The strange part is it came out of the blue, to both devices. Nether started out this way, but now both have it.
In my attempts to figure this out I completely crashed the OS of the Glacier to the point of not booting, so in frustration I wiped all the partitions and reflashed the rom and upon Booting into the OS for the first time, to my surprise, the setup wizard had a blacked out login page
I've googled this every way I can think of and haven't pulled a single useful result, so by now I'm totally and completely dumbfounded and have accepted I cant fix this on my own, so here I sit explaining this to you guys, hoping someone higher up the ladder of knowledge then my self can intervene before I go crazy!
Thanks in advance!
I have to admit, it's a tad alarming nobody has come forward with even an idea of what happened to my devices. starting to be really concerned I cant make it go away.
I realised way after I posted this question that I put it in the wrong section, could that be why I'm not finding the help I'm looking for?
If so could a Mod please move the thread, I hate creating dups in a forum.
I suppose by this point help is never coming so I'm throwing in the towel and starting from scratch on both devices.
It was without a doubt something I did that caused my issues. I suspect probably one of the sys apps I removed was being leveraged to display those pages, but I cant figure out which one it was.
Since the standard wipe reflash didnt fix it last time, I'm hoping that a full wipe of the system partition and remaining partitions then reflashing the os will restore what I so quickly destroyed.
Lots learned because of my own stupidity, mainly, dont be stupid, stupid.
Thanks.... oh wait, for nothing... see ya on my next blunder
