Need a 'touchscreen only rom' - is there one? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Is there a rom (or mabey it's just a phone skin or theme) that is just 100% touchscreen - so I will not miss my buttons?
Here's why...
This last weekend all the buttons on my 8925 stopped working - just the power and camera buttons work (no keyboard either)
Everything else on the phone fuctions, phone, gps, internet, just the darn buttons.
Since I couldn't answer the phone without pressing the green button, I had to find something fast - I flashed Josh's 6.5 21222(?) - works good, but it's a little bleeding edge for me.
So I don't have to spend 3 days flashing 20 roms - please let me know if you've come across any that would help.
Thanksk a million!
Will

Try garmins rom ("-g-") + SPB mobile shell + spb pocket plus

Try
a wm 6,5 rom that one from pdaviet

As usual, keep flashing until you find the right one!

Opal Dialer
With the opal dialer, you can have a slider to answer or reject calls. I've had a lot of luck with all of the 6.5's so far, and it's very finger friendly as well as finger functional. But you should be able to install the opal dialer to any rom.
Sorry about your buttons and keyboard though, the keyboard is my favorite part, I hate typing with an onscreen. If, by the way, you find a keyboard that works really well with fingers, please please let me know. Transcriber works, but it's not a keyboard.
At any rate, good luck!

Thanks!

As to onscreen keyboards. I use - and really like Resco Keyboard. It is THUMB Friendly and easy to use ( I think it is like an iphones keyboard - but who says they can't have a good idea once in a while).
I think WM 6.5 seems to be the most finger friendly so far. I tried one of the HyperDragon III roms (12/25/08) and it works ok because it has...
Big start menu & Touchflo for easy navigation
I installed an iphone dialpad
I installed slide to unlock, slide to play, slide to view Dang - does it sound like I went for an iphone? - not intentional, but they do seen to have the better fingerfriedly interface.
I use Kinoma player - very finger friendly - for most media and core player (with diamond theme - big buttons) for the orb and news streams (it plays better than WM for me)
On a side note, I was getting 5-8 second gps locks from cold start with that setup! Better than my official GPS's.
Tonight or tomorrow I'll will try the opal dialer on a 6.5 rom - especially with the new internet exporer.

I do second this notion, a touch screen only rom would be nice.
I have seen many roms integrate touchFlo/Manilla, but I havent seen many integrate Winterface (iphone like interface), Point UI, or others.
I very much like TouchFlo, but variety would be good too.

Update - solace rom works!
Two days ago I loaded the Solace v. 3.x rom. It is set up for primarily touch screen use - big icons, big notificiations etc. Works great. Only issue is with the default phone skin - if I have to dial a new number I have to save it to contacts first. But I like other features of the skin so I'll live with that. I rarely call anyone new anyway so it really isn't an issue.
Thanks for your help!

One more update...
Turns out my buttons were not really broken- ae button plus allowed me to remap the buttons - right back to their old state - funny but it worked! Now I can run 'regular roms' again! Something must really be wrong with my tilt to have that problem!
And now that my outside buttons are mapped right, the keyboard works too! WOW - I was looking at replacing the tilt, instead it's only a $7 fix!

Pointui 1.02b with SmartPhones support

works good on my vox (with dr. gonzo guava rom 0.5) and looks perfect. (i am using black theme). i didnt notice any bugs yet and its so fast too.
http://pointui.com/Home.aspx
little hint:
to unlock keyboard you have to press "up", then "down" on d-pad.
(thx h4waii)
Tried it a while ago on my Vox, only issue is that it doesn't run at the system level - so backing out with the End call button will exit the application completely.
BTW, you don't have to push center on the d-pad to unlock. Just up and down or even down and up quickly will work. Hopefully they add more support for skins and add the ability to input numbers from the home screen to place a call.
I have been playing around with this for a few days now. The interface is zippy and looks ultracool. However, there is almost nothing you can do to customize it to your liking. Because of this, it remains only a good idea for me, can't use it
Hopefully, the developers will fix all those issues and we'll have a really usable version for smartphones. That would be something...!!
Yes I'm also looking forward to it
I just want the ability to see which Wifi network I'm connected to, and a better application laucher (too much scrolling for me), also what said h4waii and of course skinning support.
And it would be perfect for me, I don't really use any specific plugin on homescreen anyway.
Personnaly I tested, and I wasn't enable to dial a phone number.
I had to bring back to WM home to dial a number.
I think it's a little borring...
Did you see this problem
Yes. There is no dialer for PointUI, hopefully they make one.

And so??? How do you dial a number?
Well on pocket pc they can hit the regular green phone key and that brings up the usual dial screen but it doesn' work on smartphones.
Well i's still a beta
Ok thank you DOc
it has been released for WM2003 (SE) now too as an Alpha Version, runs pretty stable on my XDA II with WM2003.

To dial a number, you should completely terminated the home.exe process, dial your number and then you can bring back up the PointUI home application. If you simply hit Home twice, it will keep the pointui process running in the background which seems to consume a lot of RAM.
I have my zero key mapped to upon triple keypress, close the active application.
I dont really see the advantage of using this program what functions does it add ?

Recommmed a task switcher

Anyone tried, tested and recommend a better task switcher for the TC. One that doesn't require a 3 year old's tiny fingers to operate! Ideally I'm looking for one that can be used with normal man-sized fingers, a hard key and one that incorportates a key lock prog
Thanks
I use the app AltTab.exe
I have assigned it to the 'record' butten. Works really nice
Can you point me to the correct/latest version of this? It seems there are many variants and name-sakes floating around. Thanks
OK sorted. Got the zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357227&page=2
Makes you realise how slow the TC is. I think I had the same program on my P3600 Trinity (inbuilt in a cooked ROM) and don't remember it being so slow?

What's your favourite cooked ROM?

In about a month or two I will be putting aside my Kaiser and make way fo the Touch HD so what better way to spend the remainder of time with my Kaiser then to flash cooked ROM's!
So for the past few weeks I have been testing several cooked ROM's and here's my current favourite ROM's in no particular order based on speed, stabilty and appearance:
- SJ' HD ROM's III (shortly will be testing IV)
- PDACornerUltimate.V4
- Garmin.DK.4.Manila [OS 19971.1.4.0] - v4.4a/b/c
- MBarvian's Solace v1.5 BETA
- L26_KaiserTouch_V1_M2D
I think in there own way they are all great ROM's cooked by the finest Chefs!
If I had to choose one for my own personal permanant use it would be between SJ' HD ROM's and PDACornerUltimate.V4 I think they are both on par in terms of speed and stabilty but I think the coloured icons of PDACornerUltimate.V4 do it for me
To all the cooks well done guys and thank you!!!!
more flashing and more testing to be done........
I'm using mbarvian's Solace V1.5 beta at the moment and i'm very pleased with it. I've used the Hyperdragon III rom's and they are great too. I don't have a favorite. I'm trying new rom's when i feel like it.
PDACornerUltimate is my favourite rom since the coloured status icon. LOL
And also it is very convenient because it has all of my need.
sorry for my question ... which ROM is "SJ' HD ROM's III" ?

i just got a kaiser and im gonna flash my first rom, hyperdragon is getting a lot of attention and looking good for me. i have unlocked it just fine and was waiting for a thread like this to confirm that that rom is one of the best
any other recommendations??
For me it's NATFs ROMs (AT&T, not Manila).
This Manila stuff is way too inflexible. I spent hours and hours testing Manila ROMs (two by NATF and Hyperdragon III) and trying to configure them to my liking. But Manila is inflexible to changes/customization, and even the fledging utility found in the forum - is not enough.
Next week I'll test another "regular" ROM.
NATF ROMs here too.
I'm running V4 Manilla Laoded right now on my mian phone and ATT Loaded on my older "back-up" phone. The each have their positives and negatives.
- Can't change the fost key in Minilla.
- Can't run anyother other home screen plug-ins with Manilla running.
-Manilla allowes you to have multipal cities in it's weather vs. just one in HTC home weather.
- Manilla allowes you to have more contacts in it contact launcher and many more apps in it app launcher then HTC Home.
But I hae found them both to be excellent ROMs.

Use SecondToday cab (look it up in the forum).
It allows you to create a duplicate Today screen, where you can place all your Today plugins (either WM standard or s/w that you installed).
Then you assign it to any h/w key (I used the PTT button in my Tilt) - and voila! you're (almost) back in business regarding Today screen versatility.
But I didn't like the lags and REALLY didn't like the lack of customization abilities in Manila

its all about the simplicity of "today plugins" and the easy customization and manipulation of the today screen...
once "manilla" came in....THAT went out the window...and like u said the whole 2nd today screen was supposed to solve that but still....it isnt the same...
im glad i found a couple of ppl like me...who arent big fans of the manilla revolution lol...but as you can see in the listed roms in the 1st post...they all are manilla based...and in the last month or so...there hasn't been any regular cooked roms excluding 888's roms...
i haven't flashed in a long time and the reason is the lack of these non-manilla based roms...hoping any chef out there will cater to the needs of myself and the others in this minority
Well, there's the NATF v4 ATT ROM, and soon I expect there'll be a 3G version of aruppenthal's 3.57_19214 RR Edition V3.7 (he's already published the 2G versions).
I really don't understand how people are willing to sacrifice easy of use for a facade...
(and I really put a lot of effort to try and adapt to the 2 Manila ROMs I tested).
Currently using MBarvian's Solace v1.5, I find it fast, stable, and has landscape! I love the manilla 2d. Not much of a fan of the regular Home screen. I have only had my tilt about a month and I don't use it for the PDA functions. A little email, a bit of text'n, mostly I wanted to stream Sirius Radio at work as they shut down internet. I love the Theme customization available for M2d. Its awesome.

I take your point on board, with manila 2d it's a case of either you love it or hate it! however in my case I do not have any lag issues when using SecondToday combined with manila 2d it fits my purpose, of course this all depends on what ROM and tweak you use, as I have noticed with certain ROM's the SecondToday doesn't run smoothly!!
My absolute favourite is HyperDragon. No other ROM (and I've flashed 'em all!) comes close to the responsiveness and stability (sorry Leo )
Besides, I do not think that the Kaiser is really compatible with the Manila kind of touch interface by design (ever tried to scroll thru the index bar of Random Access with your finger? ). That's why I still stick to good old HTC Home.
Sleuth 3.0 - fast? I dont really know cause never tried other cooked ROM, but I know it is reliable and stable ...
AthineOS for me. The home V2.2 version. Stable, fast and ALOT of free ram.
Tony
AT&T in SE USA
I f you are in Southeast USA, then without a question, the best Rom is PDACornerUltimate.V4 with Radio 1.65.24.36
I should know, I have tried every new Rom since I got my Tilt (Year ago).
PDACornerUltimate.V4 got my vote.
hyperdragonIII (11-10-08)
I flashed hyperdragon yesterday. I liked it but there were too many bugs and no landscape just completely killed it for me.
Today i tried solace but ended up not liking it. The landscape wasn't really how I was excpecting it to be but still at least it had landscape even though i didn't really like it. there weren't as many programs as other roms give you on it. Also manillas are too hard to customize for my linking at this point. When they are further developed then they will probably become the only kind of roms I use.
Right now I'm using duttys diamond v1 and i seem to like it. I liked the looks and stuff of the manilla better but I like duttys rom performance better.
I'm going to check out a few of those NATF roms because I've heard they're really good.
It doesn't matter where you are in the country or the world...The ROM has nothing to do with it...its the RADIO!!!
And being a former Chef on here, I have to say HyperdragonIII is by far the most stable, responsive ROM out right now.
Simple things like...
On M2D if you go to another widget you can press the END key and get back to home!
The dialer is perfect and easily changable by skins. WIth a few minor AdvanceConfig changes by battery lasts easily 2 days with moderate use.
Just my info, but HyperDragonIII is the way to go right now. I have tried to build my own ROM lately, but keep going back to his!!!

htc topaz bugs, help needed

hi,
i'm using dutty's HG R10 WWE, MANILA 2.5.2012 on my topaz, it's the best rom i've found out there, almost everything is going good, almost..
problems so far:
- volume control not working for music when i send the screen off
- dialer has no key sound, a tone when you press a number
- buttons at the bottom in dialer are too crowded and overlaping, most of them not necessary in that context, not very pro looking really.
things that would be nice to add:
- change songs on vol up down long press, maybe some of you never heard of it, but i had that on all my previous phones (sony ericsson)
- image preview in all (select image browse dialog boxes) like when choosing background for your theme.
i know it's easier said than done, but if you guys have any ideas that would be nice, coz you're the best and i don't know what we would do without you.
by the way duttys roms worked best for me after trying so many rom's, fast, full of features, and almost bug free, and every mod i tried worked on it
one more thing, i did search before i post, and this is my first post ever
thanks

A ROM with a different purpose ?

At present I'm using trhe newest Energy ROM. Nice work.
I just wondered if there was any ROMs made for easy of visual use.
I'm a but long in the eye now and find using the phone sometimes a strain on my eyes. Age and all that
The Energy ROM is very good but I probably only use about 1/20th of the apps and stuff it loads. Some of the ones it installs I don't even know what they do
I would love to see a ROM made for vision clarity, bigger fonts and more simple but just as useful front screens.
Is there any of the cooks that can advise me on this ?
Thanks
maybe it's not a rom, but a software that you need, like point ui : http://www.wm6software.net/utilities/pointui_1_5.html
not the lame 2.0 which tries to do exactly the same as touchflo, spb etc, but the 1.5, which was very very eye and finger friendly, especially on small screens like the one on touchpro, with big icons, big texts, big lists etc..
so can I get a ROM with none of this HTC touch slide screen and Sense, maybe just a really basic front end.
well I've installed that app, started it and all I get is a blue blob start up screen than nothing happens.
Rom
If you are looking for a simple rom with a good user interface I usually go back to the basic Euro Touch pro rom. I then add a few apps by cab that I need but I also add SPB Mobile shell to it. Retains all the hardware funtionality. I of course turn off TF3D.
SPB can replace your start menu and for bigger fonts go to start\settings\system\screen and enable cleartype and adjust your font size.
When I install this rom I usually install the following apps for basic and a little advanced user functionality:
SPB Mobile shell 3.5 (UI) -Worth the money-
Advanced config 3.3 (changing pagepools and storage locations)
Total Commander 2.5 (self-explanatory)
GPSTest 1.04 (for GPS locking)
SKtools (easy tweaking and cleaning-latest version-I bought it at pocketgear.com)
Bing (directions, searching, Navigating etc.)
Lumos (latest version for backlight control)
Touch Response (latest version-simulated haptive feedback)
Microsoft MyPhone (Secondary sync)
Of course it is all based on taste. Just thought I would stick that out there for ya.
Font size is at its largest, isn't enough
I have to say out of whats on the phone with this energy ROM i think I only use 3 things, and one is now missing in the new ROM.
Phone
Wi-Fi Router
Notes and Tasks.
Google Maps
Facebook
SMS
Freecell
Mostly hooked up to my PC with MyMobile so I can use my big screen. never browse now as the screen is to small.
Just looked at thr Captains basic ROM

Why don't you try my Titanium ROM then ? It's pretty basic, IMO
Trouble I have is reading through all the threads on a ROM, theres just to much old rubbish per thread. I can't filter out whos going on about which version and which ROM is which.
Pruning should be compulsory
They get all wrapped up in tech speak and CHt HTc DDL ROM RAM NND GGH OOH, which doesn't mean a thing to me, or probably a lot of people
Ill try yours out now
What else would I need. I want the Wi-Fi and a few tools but none of the
ArkSwitch ( no idea what it is)
Backup Fav ( never use Fav to start with)
CHT ( turned that off straight away)
Shake and whatever ( why)
World Card ( Useles)
XDA UC ( no idea)
BINg
well you get the picture
There was a good simple task manager in the last ROM but its missing now
And I liked the page with all short-cuts to you most used apps. It looked like the iPhone, very handy to use.
TAEL roms are pretty good
OK I'm lost wheres the Energy Titanium please

TAEL, is that a ROM type or the maker of the ROM ?
Thanks
Rom
Yes TAEL is the chef of the rom.
I am currently using captains manilla 2.1 rom. Pretty basic uses the old TF3D type interface. but still has newer features. The only thing missing would be the facebook app. but that can be installed via cab. Seems to be simple enough yet has plenty of tools to get the job done. It has the simple HTC task manager as well.
Does Pointui.Home.1.5a.Wm5. work on it
Ahh I see it says WM5 I wonder if that why it doesn't work on mine.
Trying the Cpts one, systems font seems smaller and I can't seem to find any O2 UK set up cab anywhere
Font size???
It does enlarge through screen settings but I can try and find a magnifier that could swipe across the screen. Of course most of the chefs have knowledge enough to make a "handicapped" rom as microsoft sells it in windows. (Magnifier , speech etc.)
What would be good is an App like the iPhone one that turns the phone into a magnifier. I could deff use that when I was out to read labels and small stuff.
Using
TAELROM_v4.23569_STANDARD_21MAY10
Cpts one I couldn't get the O2 settings for.
i have found something that might help you http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Enhancements/WinMobile-Magnifier-27412.shtml
Well I gone and brought an iPhone, please don't shout , Only way I can see if it is suitable for me is hands on.
Probably wrong place to ask but anyone recommend a decent iPhone forum ?
Thanks
Still got the HTC so all is not lost
