What's your favourite cooked ROM? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

In about a month or two I will be putting aside my Kaiser and make way fo the Touch HD so what better way to spend the remainder of time with my Kaiser then to flash cooked ROM's!
So for the past few weeks I have been testing several cooked ROM's and here's my current favourite ROM's in no particular order based on speed, stabilty and appearance:
- SJ' HD ROM's III (shortly will be testing IV)
- PDACornerUltimate.V4
- Garmin.DK.4.Manila [OS 19971.1.4.0] - v4.4a/b/c
- MBarvian's Solace v1.5 BETA
- L26_KaiserTouch_V1_M2D
I think in there own way they are all great ROM's cooked by the finest Chefs!
If I had to choose one for my own personal permanant use it would be between SJ' HD ROM's and PDACornerUltimate.V4 I think they are both on par in terms of speed and stabilty but I think the coloured icons of PDACornerUltimate.V4 do it for me
To all the cooks well done guys and thank you!!!!
more flashing and more testing to be done........

I'm using mbarvian's Solace V1.5 beta at the moment and i'm very pleased with it. I've used the Hyperdragon III rom's and they are great too. I don't have a favorite. I'm trying new rom's when i feel like it.

PDACornerUltimate is my favourite rom since the coloured status icon. LOL
And also it is very convenient because it has all of my need.

sorry for my question ... which ROM is "SJ' HD ROM's III" ?

i just got a kaiser and im gonna flash my first rom, hyperdragon is getting a lot of attention and looking good for me. i have unlocked it just fine and was waiting for a thread like this to confirm that that rom is one of the best
any other recommendations??

For me it's NATFs ROMs (AT&T, not Manila).
This Manila stuff is way too inflexible. I spent hours and hours testing Manila ROMs (two by NATF and Hyperdragon III) and trying to configure them to my liking. But Manila is inflexible to changes/customization, and even the fledging utility found in the forum - is not enough.
Next week I'll test another "regular" ROM.

NATF ROMs here too.
I'm running V4 Manilla Laoded right now on my mian phone and ATT Loaded on my older "back-up" phone. The each have their positives and negatives.
- Can't change the fost key in Minilla.
- Can't run anyother other home screen plug-ins with Manilla running.
-Manilla allowes you to have multipal cities in it's weather vs. just one in HTC home weather.
- Manilla allowes you to have more contacts in it contact launcher and many more apps in it app launcher then HTC Home.
But I hae found them both to be excellent ROMs.

Use SecondToday cab (look it up in the forum).
It allows you to create a duplicate Today screen, where you can place all your Today plugins (either WM standard or s/w that you installed).
Then you assign it to any h/w key (I used the PTT button in my Tilt) - and voila! you're (almost) back in business regarding Today screen versatility.
But I didn't like the lags and REALLY didn't like the lack of customization abilities in Manila

its all about the simplicity of "today plugins" and the easy customization and manipulation of the today screen...
once "manilla" came in....THAT went out the window...and like u said the whole 2nd today screen was supposed to solve that but still....it isnt the same...
im glad i found a couple of ppl like me...who arent big fans of the manilla revolution lol...but as you can see in the listed roms in the 1st post...they all are manilla based...and in the last month or so...there hasn't been any regular cooked roms excluding 888's roms...
i haven't flashed in a long time and the reason is the lack of these non-manilla based roms...hoping any chef out there will cater to the needs of myself and the others in this minority

Well, there's the NATF v4 ATT ROM, and soon I expect there'll be a 3G version of aruppenthal's 3.57_19214 RR Edition V3.7 (he's already published the 2G versions).
I really don't understand how people are willing to sacrifice easy of use for a facade...
(and I really put a lot of effort to try and adapt to the 2 Manila ROMs I tested).

Currently using MBarvian's Solace v1.5, I find it fast, stable, and has landscape! I love the manilla 2d. Not much of a fan of the regular Home screen. I have only had my tilt about a month and I don't use it for the PDA functions. A little email, a bit of text'n, mostly I wanted to stream Sirius Radio at work as they shut down internet. I love the Theme customization available for M2d. Its awesome.

I take your point on board, with manila 2d it's a case of either you love it or hate it! however in my case I do not have any lag issues when using SecondToday combined with manila 2d it fits my purpose, of course this all depends on what ROM and tweak you use, as I have noticed with certain ROM's the SecondToday doesn't run smoothly!!

My absolute favourite is HyperDragon. No other ROM (and I've flashed 'em all!) comes close to the responsiveness and stability (sorry Leo )
Besides, I do not think that the Kaiser is really compatible with the Manila kind of touch interface by design (ever tried to scroll thru the index bar of Random Access with your finger? ). That's why I still stick to good old HTC Home.

Sleuth 3.0 - fast? I dont really know cause never tried other cooked ROM, but I know it is reliable and stable ...

AthineOS for me. The home V2.2 version. Stable, fast and ALOT of free ram.
Tony

AT&T in SE USA
I f you are in Southeast USA, then without a question, the best Rom is PDACornerUltimate.V4 with Radio 1.65.24.36
I should know, I have tried every new Rom since I got my Tilt (Year ago).
PDACornerUltimate.V4 got my vote.

hyperdragonIII (11-10-08)

I flashed hyperdragon yesterday. I liked it but there were too many bugs and no landscape just completely killed it for me.
Today i tried solace but ended up not liking it. The landscape wasn't really how I was excpecting it to be but still at least it had landscape even though i didn't really like it. there weren't as many programs as other roms give you on it. Also manillas are too hard to customize for my linking at this point. When they are further developed then they will probably become the only kind of roms I use.
Right now I'm using duttys diamond v1 and i seem to like it. I liked the looks and stuff of the manilla better but I like duttys rom performance better.
I'm going to check out a few of those NATF roms because I've heard they're really good.

It doesn't matter where you are in the country or the world...The ROM has nothing to do with it...its the RADIO!!!
And being a former Chef on here, I have to say HyperdragonIII is by far the most stable, responsive ROM out right now.
Simple things like...
On M2D if you go to another widget you can press the END key and get back to home!
The dialer is perfect and easily changable by skins. WIth a few minor AdvanceConfig changes by battery lasts easily 2 days with moderate use.
Just my info, but HyperDragonIII is the way to go right now. I have tried to build my own ROM lately, but keep going back to his!!!

Yes, please include something to fix the poor in call volume on the earpiece of the phone...Thanks!
A decent dialer SCREEN PLEASE!
Fix the stupid restart cycles that some fricken roms have here!
New chef? I am hungry.
I personally like roms that are really light on installed program as i have cabs for pretty much everything i use. We can always use another chef...can't have too many options
Definitely would like to see it light and fast. Add your non-essential apps into a extended UC folder for customization after flashing so we can choose which to include and not.
I personally would like to see a huge, bloated and very slow ROM. I don't know why everyone must have Fast Roms.
Of COURSE I'm joking!

I think what jimmy is trying to say is that he wants a rom that has everything in it...... so many things that it doesnt even start the phone...... that it goes to configure screen and it stays there... or just in bootloader......lmao
JK.... the more chefs we have the better bro.....
maybe you can make several releases.... lights and fulls.....
its all matters to you really..... your the one making the time to make the roms so its your choice....
i personally like roms that have the essential apps included in it that i would use or show off!!!!... but again... its up to the chef to decide whats include in the roms!!!!
best of luck to you as more chefs are always welcome but have some pretty good competition i might add!!!!
I second everything about fast. And based on the latest very fast T-Mobile WM 6.1 update... But it has to be compatible with other sorts of WWE Apps. For example: the Touchflo 2D Manilla project doesn't run completely the way it should on the stock-update... It is looking for some english text and foldernames... Which is too Bad cuz it is the fastest ROM I have been running on my Vario 3 so far.... even when we have Leo's great ROM's around. The above mentioned problem caused me to go back to V12 Light (for the time being).
Dutch rom
Hello Bram,
besides fast and everything that is said, I would like it if it was a dutch rom. That would make a real differance from what there's out there now.
Good luck
maybe off topic, but Brams roms are fantastic. I used them all the time for the HTC Touch.

Hello Bram looking forward to it!

Do you like Manilla2D/3D or not

Most recent cooked ROM's come with Manilla2D, and now, thanks to the P3D team even with Manilla3D. I personally am not a fan of Manilla, for a number of reasons, and I would like your opinion. So vote please!
I'm hoping for future ROM's without Manilla preinstalled. For the following reasons:
Manilla only shows 1 upcoming appointment. That's not enough overview for me. Furthermore you have to jump through hoops to have it directly open your favorite PIM manager's calendar like Pocket Informant
When wanting to call someone while driving a car, the Cube fits best. I can almost call my wife without looking at the screen once. Scrolling to the persons-tab in Manilla takes a lot of precision and attention.
I use the sound profiles tab in HTC Home Plugin a lot, putting my device on silent or vibrating with one click. I haven't found that funtionality in Manilla
I lock my device a lot, preventing buttons from being pushed in my pocket. Device Lock could be on the programs tab in Manilla (with all my other favorite progs). But then again, it is hard to reach that tab accurately, as mentioned earlier for the persons tab
I really must admit Manilla looks way better than the standard Today screen and it's nice to have something new to look at, but I'm not willing to give up functionality for that.
No disrespect is meant to people who spend their time on cooking ROM's and sharing them with others. I really appreciate everything. I'm just hoping I won't be forced to use Manilla if I would like to use a newer/faster ROM in the future.
Hi deechte
I think that this voting not necessary because both of TouchFlo 2D & 3D will dead when the new version of ThrottleLauncher 0.9.5 will release after a few days and I think that all cooker will add it or at lest release the rom without TouchFlo
follow up this thread to see what will be ThrottleLauncher 0.9.5

or watch this video

I really dislike the direction that Manilla 2D/3D takes us. I looks stunning, but like you stated its terrible for us drivers. There is no way to use the phone in landscape with Manilla and it requires a lot of involvement to get where you want to be. HTC Home was elegant, simple point and click, and it worked in landscape also!

Thanks for that information. TL sure looks nice, and I see profiles passing by in that clip. However, it looks as complicated as Manilla to scroll to the tab you want, which indeed takes to much involvement while driving. But we'll see how it really works when it's released.
Btw, just another reason to have a clean ROM, so you can choose for HHP, Manilla or TL yourself.
I agree with deechte. If the ROM comes "clean" every user can install what's best for him/her (in example, I'm used to SPB mobile shell)

I partially agree with you because TouchFlo 2D & 3D needs more tweaks to work perfect which normal user can't do it by self
Ultimately, what I would love would be a custom version of Manilla (or even Throttle launcher) that would enable 2D/3D mode in portrait and then HTC Home (or whatever plug-in you prefer) in landscape.
I really like Manilla2D, I wanted 3D but it didn't work and I had to hard reset my phone by flashing a new (but updated at the same time) ROM to get it to work again.
I would love Manilla2D on any ROMs I get from now on.

sure you can disable it from Today screen and working as it not present at all in rom, and if you decide that you will not using it at all. you can delete or backup all Manila graphic picture from windows directory to free space in internal storage

Which Rom is suitable for you?

I made this threat for a guide about cooked ROMs on xda-developers, so the cooked ROMs lover have a guide which ROMs is suitable for them, there is no purpose to compare the ROM, which is best or bad one, once again this is just a little guide abiout the ROMs
like me, first i use ELITE RC3 for my raphael, i really like this ROM, very stable and fast, but the only thing i don't lik eis can't block with my stylush.
and then i upgrade to ELITE RC4, everything great, very stable and fast, have some bug for first but it's was fix by elite team.
and then i try NRG 3.0 magic, acctually this ROM is great but there is problem with S2U software, not suitable for me, and then i back to ELITE RC4 again
just a gfew days ago,i try NRG 3.0 warhawk, until now i think it's still great, did not find any bug yet, unless i can't set same picture for the backround for all tab at TF3D, but that's not a big deal i think
i wait for your experience too
can you all share yours
u shud try tpc v3...i bet u gonna love it...
I like NATFs ROMs as well as Energy ROMs.
Eventhough NATF has swinched to 6.5 cooking, he still has a pretty stable 6.1 ROM out as well.
I like quite clean roms, with stock WM and stock manila 2.1.
without strange customizations like iphone icons in start menu, customs topbar, custom splashscreens etc..
and it seems impossible to find a wm6.5 rom like that. too bad, was ready to donate to have something clean.
NRG 3.0 warhawk is working great for me have had the recent one since it came out and haven't had any issues,

you can take this one and ad the manila 2.1 cab

quote from Da_G:
"OK, so i've been working on rebuilding imgfstools from scratch to allow things like uncompressed ROM's, image update, and all that jazz...
This is a barebones stock WM 6.5.x ROM running 23034,
ImageUpdate is currently broken on it (I broke ULDR somehow, working on that!)
But i'd like you guys to try the ROM out (being uncompressed and whatnot) and let me know how it runs. Note that when I say barebones stock, I mean it It's got a comm manager, the camera app, and that's pretty much it
But it should be nice and fast!"
I would like one that is essentially the same as the current stock Fuze ROM from HTC, except with Win 6.5 instead of 6.1.
I wouldn't mind if the trial apps/games were missing from it but it wouldn't matter to me if they're in it. Aside from them, however, I would like everything else that comes with the the standard HTC ROM.
Any suggestions which ROM is the closest to what I want?
Thanks.

I looked at that but I am not sure it's what I want (unless I am reading something incorrectly). I want only the version of Windows to be different from the stock HTC Fuze ROM.
I wouldn't mind if the trial apps that come with it are missing but that's not important to me either way. What is important is that I'd rather not have any non-standard items (such as apps, skins, dialers, keyboards) or tweaks because I do all that stuff myself and I don't want to waste any extra time figuring out what someone else did differently.
Thanks.

ROM
I have tried all ROM listed in the forum & keep trying every time there is a new one. "Burning my Touch Pro - hahah".
I just try Manila 2.5 today from CM-XOR Pro 1.3_Final, so far it's ok except u have to install KbdFix (to fix the keyboard FN issue). Other than that it is ok. A bit slow thou. Nothing much in the manila 2.5. Mayb more on cosmetic & GUI. One big issue for me, the prog icon is not organize (Genesis is better). All over the screen in "start". I try using "reStart" to organize....not so responsive... so forget it.
Other than that its a god ROM for people who like the "wow" factor on the looks of the UI.
Check out here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493657
Personally i like a clean EnergyRom Genesis 20/9/09. Full of stuff & no bugs so far, except no Ezinput. (i install myself)+touch respond, to add the most. (hopefully EnergyRom can add "lower task bar" with the "start" & "ok" buttom rather than at the top.)
Other than these two you can try "ExquisiteV3.1_1/10/09". Not bad. I love the "lower task bar" which is very usefull for Touchpro as the screen & body is small. With normal task bar, its very diff to touch the "start" & "ok" button at the top.
Here are my best list (all tested)
EnergyROM-Genesis
EnergyROM-Warhawk
Arkl_V1.2
ChaMuze
Exquisite
CM-Xor-full version
I am waiting for;
Intellirom-Alpha Manila 2.5
Sun-CM team manila 2.5 VGA
Which i m sure when they r goin to release it.
Happy trying......

I am looking for the same thing Stock WM and Stock Manilla with updated HTC Appz. No more than that, just an updated stock rom with new packages. Seems that everybody want to put its "touch" the closest to that was Elite Roms however it seems that their development is freeze
I like RRE 6.1 version rom , works great fast also , no issues from past 6-7 months.
ROMS
If you want a simple ROM try Tael Rom v2.23049. Simple & tweak.
Josh's Dark Fusion
TPC Elite
These are my top two picks.
Titanium. A must for me.
I switched from cricket on titan for a year, and the tp for 6 months. I ran every 6.5 rom for the pro and found lots of things I would like to see an 1 rom.
My fav is NRG. Warhawk was great, genesis did something to my cricket phone. After running it for 2 days my screen started to black out, or the images would mix up. Figured it was me flashing many roms a day and making them all work for cricket.
I bought a NIB pro from sprint and switched service, left stock and locked for 2 days, then flashed genesis and after 10 min on my phone it blacked out the screen. First thing I did was norten scan my sd card. 1 infection found and fixed. Flashed back to stock and phone was ok. Next day I put genesis back on, and black screen issue again. It is back to stock and locked. Not happy with 6.1 but it is a stable rom.
I would love a rom that is titanium with all tabs, cprogram launcher, cweather, contacts, opera, internet favs, and not have to add. Chome editor adding cweather give the tab, but it is all blank with a red X for each day icon. Start menu with all the awesome Icon categories like NRG. No honeycombs. I like all most all the progams from stock sprint rom, and NRG roms like prl update. Adobe pdf, a flashplayer that actually loads images in websites. Flashlite 3.1 don't work, nor flash7 ppc with activeX. Websites show install flash player icon, but not sure which or how to get current for ppc. would like touch pro tweaks from nrg, the wifi router from nrg, a calander from manila that actually shows a calendar. IE from nrg but not the recent builds opera as it shows as a mobile browser in most the sites i visit and puts the m in the beginning of urls. Recent core player, and full screen media player.
I have spent lots of time on ppcgeeks, and little here. I came here looking for a new rom.
Start and ok in task bar above screen. But that changed in build 23034 or 37 iirc.
not a cook, but would love to see a sprint rom close to what i discribed. Just my opinion. CDMA

I'm currently trying it, and I think I'll agree.
Except for the custom boot screen, everything is what I was searching for.

Manila? No, thanks. I need speed.

Manila, Manila 2.1, Manila 2.5, Sense.
Cool, Eye catchers, Smooth, etc. etc. etc.
These add-ons make the Topaz look and feel better. Just scroll left, scroll right, touch the thing and it rollz.
Is this really needed?
I don't think so. I have tried a lot of roms with these interfaces. Indeed the eyes are satisfied. But the performance is not.
I want when press the green send button the dialer to appear immediately, not after the phone first wake up. I want when executing something the thing to be run, rather than waiting sometimes ridiculous seconds until the appearance.
I was bored and bored with waiting. Really why something to be loaded into my system if that is not what works for me?? I work with dialer, contacts, calendar, run various applications. Why to waste system resources on interfaces???
My boredom lead to removing the sense through the today settings and
adding some today plugins, like launcher. And of course – topaz keyboard control for keys mapping.
The result is much much faster phone, which works for me, not for the interface.
Edit: WM 6.1. is fast, but a lot of features from 2009 are missing, that is why I prefer WM6.5.
if you want speed install wm 6.1 with no interface.

Edit: WM 6.1. is fast, but a lot of features from 2009 are missing, that is why I prefer WM6.5.

which features do you mean??????

Basically I lack WIFI router integrated (I know I can install it separately);
And I had some bad expirence with some settings which I can not recall now.
But the number of question marks in your post made me look for another 6.1. realase. I am now downloading tess 6.1. from august.
What do you use?
use tess and you will be fine).
and if 6.1 is ugly to you try home ui or new infinity ui. they are speedy too.

I am using duttys HG R6...very stable; but try them all and make your choice...
So this has anything to do with themes?
I didnt think so. Try posting in the right section, then maybe your phone will be speedier.

chill man he posted about the fact that mannila sucks and he coudnt be more correct.
I'm with you! Stopped using Manila a few days ago and my mobile experience has never been better. Using no today plug-ins now and my phone is faster, lighter and more stable than ever before. Memory usage is now 33% on a fresh boot and my home screen is uncluttered showing only my wallpaper, which looks great.
The most important thing for me was organising my start menu so that all my apps are readily accessable. That done, it's easy for me to access everything i need quickly, in fact faster than it was using Manila. I find Winmo 6.5 has everything i need with exception of a few things, and for those there are great free alternatives without having to resort to Manila bloat. For instance i use Nitrogen as a music player which is ten times better than Windows mobile media player OR Manila player.
Of course your mileage will vary but in my opinion the OP is right. Get yourself a good 6.5 ROM, install apps for the things you need/use a lot and use the start menu to access them.
Hi DirkGently1,
Hi guys;
I tried WM6.5. then reverted to 6.1.
I have running in the background: FingerKeyboard, AutoCallRecord, PlayPause, Topazkbgkontrol.
Memory after restart... 29%
I use Topaz Essential 6.1. v.2f
And the best part is that I don't want to flash new rom anymore :

So true. Once you find a good ROM there's no reason to change. Stability and speed are what makes a good user experience and Manila, or any other add-on UI, runs contrary to that by adding complexity, instability and bloat.
i hate to say this twice but realy , try infinity. runs realy great on topaz. it maybe not complete replacment yet but its usable

But what does it do that i can't do without it?
well. nothing realy. but its nice to have shortcuts the way you want them and see what time it is. and all that is pretty without slowdowns

Just a nod to the chef here for people who like a clean rom without any bloatware. Xara 6.5.x clean is working perfectly on my Topaz and i LOVE it!

My pleasure!
This is the 1st truly useable clean rom that has been released for the Topaz and it is really spot on. Even the default Windows Mobile keyboard is useable, in fact much improved from previous iterations.
Kudos to the chef.
Ï hate Manila and I hate 6.5 -and I'll probably also hate 7

WM6.5/Touchflo ROM with Flip-Clock & Weather ?

Hey Guys - I've poured over these threads and am a bit confused about the versions of HTC touchflo. What are my options, if any, that allow running WM6.5 and getting the flip-clock with weather beneath it? Is this possible? Or is this only touchflo 3d, which hasn't been cooked into a wizard rom?
Or maybe I should be able to change the look of the clock for this touchflo but I haven't been able to find it?
Thanks for any info.

I think what you mean is the HTC home plugin, right? I would say that you could use any 6.5 ROM and install the HTC home plugin to get the features you want (by the way, I just found this in a German ROM somewhere here, check out the "SKYNET ROM v6", post #7- Seems it's working there and should of course work for any English version, too). Good luck
Andreas
I think it's called "HTC Sense" ?
Thanks for replying Andreas. I did some more searching and I think the name associated with the look I want is "sense" ... i don't see a wizard ROM for that yet. But maybe i'm missing something? I've attached a pic.

hm... well, I don't know this one. But guess what- I'd be interested in this too Sorry I couldn't help. Personally, I don't like the 6.5 default look either and I keep always changing to even the 'old' 6.1 home screen, simply because I have all the information I need on one screen. I prefer this over a fancy look. But the thing you are looking for seems to do the job, too. Let's hope someone can jump in and solve the issue
Good luck,
Andreas
Once i ask cracing why dont use this on a rom.
1- this new touchflo is to big
2- our processor is to slow to process the flip clock, you can imagine...there is a lot of deferents images all the time change.
3- there is still bugs on ported version (maybe now this is not more valid)
Just one more thing, the picture is the 3d version, this one is IMPOSSIBLE to get in a non 3d acceleration device, but there something like that in 2d.
I've run this (the 2D version anyway) on a Wizard, by installing cabs onto a fairly naked 6.5 rom. It's slow, and takes too much memory and storage. It sure is pretty, though.
I think I used an "MSD-Series" rom as the base. I can't remember for sure.
I often try 6.5 but my favorite roms are 6.1. Even there, Manila2D is a hog.
RoryB's latest ExtROM-based Angel rom and TechTeamup's NSN rom are pretty evenly matched as my favorites right now. Both come with M2D. NSN loses points for using an older version, but Angel loses points for requiring tweaks to get the album view and music tabs to work properly.

I also need the same. Anybody there can suggest something
Its New HTC Manila from HTC Mega having Flip-Clock and Weather on home screen. It can be found here.
As it has many images ( for making animation like flip clock ), it makes the device slower. So its only good for newer qvga devices having 400+ mhz CPU speed and 128+ MB RAM or users how use there device rearly.
Best Regards
You can see pictures of a Wizard running Manila2D v2 here:

It realy looks great but as Cracing and n2rjt and boto said: It needs to much RAM and CPU power! And is has no real landscape mode wich is a problem if you use it on a phone with a slide-out-keyboard like the Wizard. I did not only installed the CABs but cooked it into my ROM. I flashed it, tested it and 2 days later I already flashed an other ROM again because it is not usefull at all.
