My phone is bricked - G1 Android Development

Ok i downgraded my phone from rc30 to rc29 and now it won't enter the recovery mode. All it does is restart everytime and when i do a factory reset it doesn't reset anything. Can anyone help me please.

read this tutorials very carefully

or

I READ IT
I have done this before. Rooting i mean but the problem is that i have already downgraded to the rc29 but i just can't enter the recovery mode. I have factory resetted and i have tried to flash the recovery image again but not works. The phone is at rc29 and i did the telnet commands but i just cannot get the phone into recovery mode. It doesn't allow it. Is there is a way to reset it to rc30 so i can try again?

brick
There's already a brick thread with helpful tips
bricked g1s are like unicorns they don't exsist when you flash the phone
Try searching for "brick thread" using search function

brick
Also if the phone loads up it's not bricked and the recovery function is there it comes preloaded with rc29 just reflash rc29

Bootloader wont read the rc29
I put the rc29 file on my sdcard and entered bootloader by pressing camera and power button but when it enters the menu it says there is no img file present. I know that it is the right file and i have placed in the correct place. And i have not changed the file name.

make sure you unzip the file, then place the .nbh extension on the sd.

brick
Reformat your sdcard it might say it's fat32 but might be corupted. It can't find the file is cause the filesystem is corupted or the rc29 img did not transfer correctly

Thank you so much
Thanks alot. That is the step i missed. I'm such an idiot. Thank u again. Now my girlfriend won't kill me for messing up her phone.

You're absolutely sure it's named dreaimg.nbh, NOT dreaMimg.nbh and it's in the root directory of the SD card not a subdirectory and you downloaded the ENTIRE file (download didn't crap out prematurely?

The step i missed
No wat happened is that i didn't unzip the rc29 file and i put the whole folder on the sdcard and then i tried to run it in bootloader. That where i was messing. Thank u guys very much for your help i really appreciate it.

Dawn Chorus - Feel better every day in 10 easy steps!

Hi all
Do you switch your HTC Kaiser on first thing in the morning? Are you fed up looking at some naff operator logo. Well, look no further. I've made a custom Splash Image sequence called "Dawn Chorus". It's designed to make you feel that little bit better in the morning. Here goes:
1) Copy "welcomehead.96.png" in "Dawn Chorus.zip" to the \Windows folder on your device. You may need to use a programme like Total Commander PPC.
2) Copy "animated.gif" in "Dawn Chorus.zip" to the "\Windows" folder as above.
3) You MUST have your device HARD SPL'ed. If you don't have Hard SPL installed then don't go any further!
4) Copy KAISIMG.nbh (in Dawn Chorus.zip attached) to the root of your Storage Card.
5) Completely power down your phone using long press power and selecting "Yes".
6) Press and hold the camera button and press the power button. Keep the camera button pressed until you see the tri-colour bootloader screen.
7) When prompted to, press the power button again to start the flash of the new splash screen.
8) Wait for the progress bar to go all the way over. After you have COMPLETED! SUCCESS! or something like that in blue writing on grey background soft-reset the device using the stylus in the hole method.
9) Enjoy your new splash screen and feel better every morning!
10) Delete KAISIMG.nbh from the root of your Storage Card.
Gorgeous
Gorgeous, been some great sunsets over the last few days.
Thanks.
Okay, have to be doing something wrong. Phone goes into bootloader, but no prompt to press power button
What am I doing wrong ? I followed all the steps, copied kaisimg onto my SD, camera power, bootloader, nothing.
hmmm
Well it works for me but never did get the green button holding the power and camera but held it till i got the tricolor screen and waited and restarted and all works ok for me . I have a great sun rise now
Thank you

Hi
Did you place KAISIMG.nbh on the root of your SD card? Is your device security unlocked? If you can't get it to work, try SSPL. I don't know if that will work but it may be worth a try.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply.
Yes , I put it on the root of my SD card. Tried moving it with Total Commander, tried cutting and pasting it on to the SDcard. My phone is security unlocked and flashed with 3.29Hard. For some reason when I put the phone into Bootloader, KAISIMG.nhb just won't run. Is there a way to run it off the desktop?

Don't use SSPL.
SSPL is for flashing the SPL (Bootloader) on the device, nothing more.
@denco, you need a FAT32 formatted card, and sometimes some card's just don't work. Just flash it with the RUU.

Sorry i Dave was in the background... "great minds think alike"
Replace existing ROM/Radio image file in update package.

Hi denco7
Yes, take a ROM/Radio update with any update file in and CustomRUU.exe. Rename KAISIMG.nbh to the same as the existng .nbh file in the folder and replace the existing update image file. Then just flash from desktop as usual.
Cheers
andrew-in-woking
Not sure if it's called "KAISIMG.nhb" on your device or was just a typo, but it's "KAISIMG.nBH, not "KAISIMG.nHB."
thanks for this ^^ normally i only reboot my kaiser if something went wrong
so your great startup screens really help me to calm down
btw. flashing via sd-card doesn't work for me.
renaming to RUU_signed.nbh and flashing using active synced worked fine

FYI: The RUU will flash the first file it finds with an NBH extension in it's directory. No need to re-name, just place the RUU and and NBH in the same directory and it will flash

Thanks, Dave
That was my first thought, that my card wasn't formatted right. Just wanted to make sure running RUU with KAISIMG would be alright.
EDIT: That worked, one question though, is it supposed to be animated ? Either way it is beautiful, thanks for this and the Neon theme, which I use all the time.

[Q] downloaded Villainrom 2.4.2, but no tar file?

I have a samsung galaxy s2 and i have rooted my phone, next I downloaded the villain rom and put it in a desktop folder, but it is nowhere to be seen when i try and find it after clicking on PDA in Odin. I guess it is not being found as it is not saved as the recognised tar file type? I can see that it is saved as a compressed zipped folder, is this why it does not show up?
If so how do i get it to become the right file type to be seen by odin and the PDA button?!
Sorry, massive noob here and have searched for the answer on here for hours, but no luck!
I think you have downloaded a flashable zip for use with CWM recovery not odin.
Sent From My Fingers To Your Face.......
Thanks conan,
Do you know of any guides about flashing in recovery mode?
Im assuming you already have CWM recovery installed....
Transfer the ROM .zip file to your internal SD card. It is advisable to use the memory that is built into the phone and not the external SD that you have inserted.
Reboot to recovery, either via the CWM app if you have it installed or by holding the following button combination while turning the phone on;
Vol UP + Home + Power
Hold these until you see the recovery menu appear.
Then follow the installation instructions from the VR thread.
Hope that helps.

[Q] Stuck in Samsung Recovery Utils?

Samsung Mesmerize; SCH-i500; Rooted stock 2.3.4 Gingerbread with Busybox!
I really don't know how I got to this point, I've flashed w/ Odin so many times now, that I have no idea if the above is still where I'm at but here goes the problem:
I turn on my phone and it doesn't even show the Samsung logo, just goes directly to the Samsung Recovery Utils with #MANUAL MODE# displayed at the bottom of the screen.
"reboot system now"
again, reboots into the same recovery mode (Samsung...)
"apply sdcard:update.zip"(after returning to the main screen):
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...

E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)

(Invalid arguement)
E:install_application_for_customer:Can't mount HIDDENSDCARD:
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
"wipe cache partition": works fine though
I know this has been asked before but I haven't found any other posts about the Samsung Mesmerize SCH i500 & I'm not sure if this is model specific & don't really want to take my chances, sorry.
Ok, update: I just used Odin to reflash to rooted 2.3.4 & it still goes to recovery mode (Samsung) & all the options are the same (w/ the same results) as above, I can't get my sdcard to show on my computer to manually apply the update, unless there is a way I don't know of, the only way I know requires me to be on the phone's Main Menu & use the notification drop-down menu to activate transfer mode on my computer, what am I missing?
Now I used Odin again, this time to put ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.1.0 on it & now it booted up in CwM Recovery mode but I still get the same error when trying to apply the update (see above)
Trying to "- mount USB storage":
E:Unable to open ums lunfile (No such file or directory)
I just want to format the whole thing, phone & sdcard, & start over from scratch as though I had just bought the phone.
Ok, for future reference, if anyone has a problem like this, unless you find another solution, this is what I did:
I downloaded a rooted stock 2.2 Froyo, ran Odin & just put the SCH-I500_USCC_EA11_REL_ROOT.tar.md5 in the PDA part & flashed it, it went to the recovery screen again at boot up but, after selecting Reboot it went right to the phone splash screen, so, I guess I'm back in business but I haven't tested anything yet, I'll update this post to keep you all in the loop, wish me luck.
It would seem that I can get wifi but I don't have a carrier or 3G, as far as I can tell, its become no more than an iPod Tough (just having wifi access) I can, however, now access the sdcard, when I plug the USB cablein it asks if I want Samsung Kies or Mass storage.
I don't know
Download and unzip the linked file. Place the tar file in the PDA slot and the pit file in the PIT slot. Make sure repartition is checked and the flash. This should get the phone booting again.

Once this is done download and unzip the linked file. Do the exact same thing. Place the tar file in PDA and the pit file in PIT. Make sure repartition is NOT checked and flash. This should have you booting into EH09 without issue.

Worked great, thank u very much, started off w/ the signal bars at full but wouldn't make any outgoing calls or send any messages but I could receive messages (text), every time I tried to make a call it kept giving me a recording, something about "To make a collect call please enter the are code and phone number of the person you are trying to call...." so I type the number & it responds w/ something "....the number you are trying to call cannot be billed..." "...to make a phone call w/ a pre-paid card or a credit card..." so I just entered the US Cellular activation # & I was back in business!
ok so after this!
After i do this (Hopefully it works) then could i use ODIN to flash the pre rooted 2.3 rom? or not?
Once done with those instructions you will be on EH09. Odin a recovery and flash the below linked file. It will root it for you.

Help with a chinese model phone, A101, deleted /system/bin/sh..

Hello all,
Firs I like to apologies if I've posted in the wrong section of the forum.
As the title says, I have a Iglo A101 with GingerBread 2.3.4 phone and I accidently deleted the system/bin/sh file.
I was searching for a2sd and I downloaded it, but when running it, instead of pressing 1 - "install a2sd" I pressed 2 "uninstall a2sd", by mistake, and by the time I realized the sh file was deleted. Now the phone is no longer rooted and can't be rooted and also my Wi-Fi doesn't work anymore.
I've search the net for answer but I can't find a solution to this type of phone.
Could someone help me fix this or at least get the Wi-Fi working again?
Thanks in advanced...
OK, I've manage to contact the retailer and he gave me what appears to be the all system files, as now I have a rar containg system.img userdata.img recovery.img etc etc. How do I install this files, because he doesn't appear to know either. I tried from the recovery mode using install update.zip from sdcard but it give's me invalid OTA package and I can't find an answer on how to flash a img file from recovery mode...

Does the device have fastboot? If so the files need to flashed using fastboot. The command is fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot flash system system.img.
If your device does not have fastboot then you will need to extract the system.img and make a flashable .zip so you can flash through CWM or whatever your recovery is. If you are using stock recovery then I eexpect you will either need to find a solution or send it off for repair. I will have a look into helping you get your device back up and running but I cant promise to succeed. Give me a few days and I will report back with any solutions or info to get you on your way to fixing your device.
Regards
Blackwatch

hi
i had similar problem on this device a101 i did not delete any folder but by rooting the device my wifi and Bluetooth stoped working.i solved the problem by the factory menu.....have you tried it?
i did factory reset, but since there a system file missing it doesn't solve it..Can't there be a way to create an update.zip package with the sh file and then apply like an update from recovery? I've been trying to understand what does invalid OTA package mean, I think if that would be solved then I could easily put the file back...
i think you need spb launcher
i have to admit i used it only ones before for china 5388 there i needed com + usb cable here you need just a normal cable us the boot on this phone is different i have all you need give me email i will send to you. i have scater for a101 file too.i never used it but i have.Us i said my phone work ok after reset from factory mode
still nothing?

If you have the system.img image, you can try to flash it in the phone with SP Flash Tool,
Here is the tutorial:

[Q] People Using TWRP Please Come!!

I have softbricked my phone and can only enter fastboot bootloader and recovery mode (htc) I have found the stock rom that I wan't to back up to and have downloaded it, but since I fastboot flashed my twrp recovery onto the phone,
I can't find any twrp root folder to put my downloaded backup into, therefore I am trying to make the folders for TWRP to recognise,
SO if anyone could spare a second to show me their twrp recovery starting from sd card location down to the numbers (apparently their are numbers in the back up folder or something) all the way down till you get to the actuall zip file. It will be greatly appreciated, please take CAPS into consideration.
i.e: TWRP>BACKUPS>90182312932>HTDF>the file goes here
Also, if I am being a huge noob and there is a straightforward way to put a backup file into TWRP on my phone, please tell me.
