Viewing Picasa albums on G1 - G1 Android Development

Hi
I am on JF 1.5.
I was wondering if it was possible to view uploaded albums on Picasa (Google Photo storage system) as i can upload them?
Any ideas most appreciated
Thanks

You can streamline updating by installing Picasa Uploader in the Market...It's free and written by Google.
As far as browsing online, my browser automagically takes me to an Android-optimized page at picasaweb.google.com/m/
If your browser doesn't do it automatically, try that address.

Don't bother with the Picasa app on the market....It will download, but not install. 1.5 has upload to Picasa built in when you press "share" on a photo.
To view, try the url that ohnoezmahfone posted.

Shared Picasa albums in Gallery App

I wanted to share a little trick I figured out today for creating a shared picasa photo album in your android gallery.
Many of you may already know that you can view your albums saved in Picasa Web Albums in the Android Gallery app. I believe this was added in 2.0 or 2.1.
My friend and I wanted to try having a spot where we both can upload wallpapers we find and have it show in the Gallery in Android. Picasa does have the ability to share your albums with friends and even gives them the ability to edit, add and remove. The problem is that this new feature in Picasa does not seem to have made its way into the Gallery App in Android.
I tried a couple apps in the market and they DO allow you to view your favorite albums in Picasa, but they have some drawbacks. Namely they auto resize the images (poorly) and they download the images to your phone. The downloading defeats the purpose of this as we wanted something "cloud" based.
I thought about using my secondary google account that I have registered in the phone. No go, as there is no option to sync Picasa as my primary does.
HOW TO MAKE IT WORK!
It turns out that Google account and Gmail based Google accounts ARE different.
1- create new Gmail account. (REMEMBER GOOGLE ACCOUNTS DO NOT WORK)
2- Sign into picasa with your new Gmail account
3- Add some photos to it.
4- on your android phone go to settings>accounts and sync> add account.
5- choose Google and add your new gmail account.
6- make sure that Picasa is the only radio box checked to sync.
Thats it your done. Go check your Gallery apps and you should see your new Picasa album. Go ahead and give this account to a friend that you want to share wallpaper with and enjoy.
hi was trying to achieve the above but cudn't. Does this still stand true as of now... I am on 2.2.2. Wanted to simply upload my camera photos to another picasa album which is shared with me with upload rights.

Picasa uploading problem

My picasa albums are syncing to the gallery app but when I try to upload new pics it says account information can not be retrieved. I went into settings and checked and there isn't a specific picasa login, only the Google one. I suspect this is the problem. Has anyone found a way to upload to their picasa album from the native gallery app?
I think this is a problem with HoneyComb. I have tried other apps from Market, like QuickPic and Picasa Tool and they all exhibit the SAME problem like the Asus's Gallery app: uploading to Picas ALWAYS FAIL. The upload box is also the same throughout these applications, so I am sure any apps that have the ability to upload to Picas uses the same function call from HoneyComb.
I am seeing more and more issues with HoneyComb... boy, Google really was rushing the table OS badly.

What's the diatribe?
As a test after finding this thread, I clicked a pic I took with my TF, tapped the share icon, and it uploaded instantly to Picasa.
Picasa uploads work just fine!
Google took their time and made it right in this case. Speaking of case... case closed.

Can you try this: upload a pic residing in SD card?

Uploading to my Picasa album works from both internal memory and from my Lexar 32gb microsd, in case it's of any use I use the Prime! v1.4 rom and netformer kernel combination.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
I have the same problem and just gave up on this. It's definitely a bug, it looks like the Picasa Uploader (that can be used by other apps besides the gallery) fails to retrieve my account data. For instance, I cannot see the list of my web albums in the dedicated dropdown menu.
It looks like it only happens to some people here, but it's frustrating.
Also, on my Froyo based phone, Picasa uploading just works fine, and the Uploader does list my albums correctly.

Works just fine. I have no idea what you are doing wrong.
Simply put, I'm in gallery, tap pic, tap share, tap picassa. Select album, upload. (inserted an old sd card and used a pic that was still on it)
Stock US 3.1 here (US should be a given on a .com site )

I tried mine with stock 3.1 rooted, and have problem. Tried with Prime 1.5, have problem. The error I got is "Failed to authenticate". However, all my other app, like mail, gReader (RSS reader app) works fine. Also, the Gallery app CAN connect to my Picasa account and DOWNLOAD pictures FROM my account. It's just the upload that failed.
Maybe its the rooting? If Google CAN PREVENT rooted devices from renting movies from he Android Market, maybe they're doing the same thing for Picasa.
Same problem exists for me on 3.1
Hi there,
I'v updated to 3.1 and the same problem still exists for me. No difference, weather the pic is on the internal memory, or the pluged in SD card. Can't upload pictures to picassa!
Any further suggestions?
I had a similar problem with google docs
I tried numerous times yesterday and was not able to upload a document to Google docs using Polaris office. The message I received was unable to find the share. I tried this morning and it worked. Weirdness.

Upload to Picasa not working on HC

More a comment than a question maybe, but I dont know if its just me but when I try to upload a pic to picasa on stock HC 3.2 it gives a Failed Service error.
On the other hand if anyone else is having this issue, the Perfect Tool for Picasa app seems to do wonders to replace this function, plus you can view and manage your picasa web albums right from the app.

Hi all
I discovered this morning that when viewing album / photos through the stock gallery, under the "Share" menu, Picasa simply disappeared.
So, I can not send pictures to Picasa anymore.
Is this a known issue ?

I haven't done that for a long time, so I can't even tell if this function has been removed in 4.4 or 4.4.1 kitkat. The option to share to "photos" from the stock gallery is definitely not working, as nothing would happen when you select that option.
In the past I used an app called Picasa tools (an free app) to share photos to specific picasa folder.

Thanks for your proposal
Anyway, I am nearly sure this option was there in 4.4 and vanished with 4.4.1... Too bad it was sooo convenient to be able to directly upload to the appropriate folder...

[APP][3.2+] CloudSocial

All - I have developed my first Android application, which is still in its infancy but fully functional.
The app is called CloudSocial, you can find it on the Play store.
I am hoping to get some constructive feedback on its ease of use, usefulness, appearance etc.
Why this app?
I have lots of photos on Dropbox, especially a lot of old ones. There was no easy way to get them onto Facebook without having to download to a device and then upload. You can obviously share a link to the Dropbox folder, but thats not the same as having them actually on Facebook for friends to like and comment on individual photos.
Similarily, my digital camera can upload directly to my NAS drive, which in turn uploads to my Dropbox account. Using CloudSocial - I can easily browse these photos and select which ones I want - and send them to a new or existing Facebook album, with whatever privacy settings I wish.
Description
Send photos from Dropbox to Facebook!
CloudSocial allows you to easily transfer photos from your Dropbox account to Facebook. You can transfer photos to existing Facebook albums, or create and send to new albums.
Features:
* Browse and Transfer photos directly from Dropbox to Facebook
* Easily create a new Facebook album for your photos, or add to an existing Facebook album
* Photos are not downloaded to your phone, so no large data transfers
* Choose Facebook privacy settings for new albums
* Photos are stored on Facebook, so your Friends can Like and Comment.
* Click on a thumbnail image to view a larger photo
Any concerns about permissions, let me know. The app cannot retrieve any passwords for either Facebook or Dropbox! No email addresses or any other user info at all is collected or stored.
The app is ad supported using admob.
Thanks for your time and feedback is appreciated (even critical).
Reserved for Q/A:
Q. Can this app see my password?
No - CloudSocial uses authentication provided by Dropbox and Facebook, so we are unable to see or store any passwords.
Q. Do I have to wait for the thumbails to be downloaded before I select and post my photos?
No - if you know what photos you want to send to your album, just select them (or select all) and hit the post button.
Q. How much data does the application use?
Only thumbnail images are downloaded from Dropbox (not full size images). These thumbnails are very small in size (around 15KB). They are also cached so they will not be downloaded again.
Q. If no images are downloaded to my phone, why does it take so long to send to Facebook?
CloudSocial has to ask Dropbox for a link to your photo. It can take around 1 second for each photo to get that link.
If you are posting a lot of photos to Facebook, it can take a bit longer to retrieve all the links. Good news is that this is done in the background so you can use your phone wihtout interruption.
Q. It takes a long time to list all my Dropbox photos?
If you have lots of images in a folder, it can take longer to list and display them all. You should consider reducing the number of images in a Dropbox folder by creating sub-folders.
Q. Why didn't all my photos transfer?
Occasionally there may be a couple of photos which don't make it. This is often due to internal server errors either on Dropbox or on Facebook. This tends to happen most when you are trying to upload a lot of photos (100+). We recommend uploading 60 or less at a time.
Tried this out and it works great, transferred a lot of photos using it (well my wife did and she found it easy to use).
I've left feedback and rated on Google Play. :good:
Sound good but I usually share my photos directly by url from Dropbox.

Thanks for the reply, I'm curious as to how you share your photos on Facebook. Do you have to share the photos individually?
If you want to share an album from Dropbox to Facebook, it only creates a link to the dropbox folder. So the user has to navigate away from Facebook in order to see the album. And they cannot comment on individual photos.
Also - you may not want everyone to see ALL the photos in an album. With my CloudSocial - you can select whatever photos you want from a dropbox folder, and send them to a new album, with whatever privacy settings you choose for that album.
Try my app and let me know if it is easier to share your photos and let me know!
Thanks
