So this is now my 2nd official post (1st was apps2sd for newbies) and i know many people have been trying to stream live internet radio stations (.pls,.aac,.aac+,.asf,.asx & .m3u files) on the Android OS.
As of now there really isnt a way to play all of those files but yes you can stream them.My last phone was the T-Mobile Wing an i was accustomed to streaming tuned.mobi on my TCPMP and so i was determined to find a way of getting me local radio stations back because i can't live without my sports radio WFAN 66 (NY station).Heres the instructions of getting this to work:
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Download StreamFurious from the android market (Theres a free and paid version,i use the free version)
2. Go to tuned.mobi from your phone browser and from there just choose your country you will find your EVERY local radio stations to stream.
3. To stream the station you want just click on the stream bit for the station
example: 64kb,128kb (will be highlighted in blue)
WHAT YOU CAN AND CANNOT PLAY:
You can ONLY stream stations with MP3 (.PLS,.M3U & .AAC) or OggVorbis links
You CANNOT stream any links that says AAC+ or WMP next to them (Windows Media Player formats is not support on Android through streams as of yet. (.asf or.asx etc..))
That's it folks.Good Luck...Now all i need is my Slingplayer for Android OS and i have everything i had on my Wing and more
If anyone has a way of getting WMP formats to stream live radio please let me know because of all my favorite radio station there's 2 that i can't have on the go due to this issue. (Hot97 & Z100 NY stations)
Hey good looking bro. I was wondering if this was possible. I know Tunewiki says you can get local radio but that app leaves much to be desired. Im gonna try this and see what happens.
My friend just turned me on to StreamFurious I love it. Thank for letting posting about tune.mobi i will have to check it out
Dude you are a awesome. I was able to find the two local stations I listen to and streamfurious loaded them just fine. I was already using streamfurious before this and loved it and now it's perfect. So my friends with FM tuners in their cell phones can go to hell...lol
I love StreamFurious. Your post actually prompted me to make this Way, Way Too May Reboots thread because when I run SF my phone loves to reboot.
Does anyone else's do the same? If so and idea why and how to fix?
I like friskyradio.com in SF for electronic music.
I dont know how i could have ever overlooked an app like this. I been wondering for the longest if something like this was eveb available. Much thx to the op.
Quick question tho, anyone know where i can find a site or something that can stream Howard 100. I ask because i noticed that within the app you can select Howard 101 but they usually dont broadcast the re-runs etc of the show on the channel. I been out of the loop with the show for a while. Would like to take advantage of this app thx again
Thanks for the heads up on the tuned.mobi service. I have been using SF for a while already but some local channels don't have mp3 streams available (many CBSRadio stations) and this let me tune into them with SF.
BTW, maybe this thread belongs in the apps subforum?
I got windows media streams on my G1 by using the AndrOrb app and setting up the stream as a custom radio station on the orb website.
dunno if thats any good to you.
Streamfurious is the best one I've seen for Android.
The other two I have found are FlyCast and AntPlayer. FlyCast has the benefit of showing album covers. It rotates between album cover, song info and ads. It's a little annoying, but it's easier to see what is playing than the tiny text on Streamfurious.
I just found AntPlayer today. It has a very nice search feature. You don't need to know the URL.

does Conduits pocket player 3.2 support shout cast?....and if so how do I add it?
Or if you would like to use a shoutcast for mobile but don't want to see a porno picture you can use http://mobile.treobits.com/index.php?ind=shoutcast
I want to make something without any adds. so where I get those xlm's?

Please make sure you read all my articles - I've listed all the SHOUTcast-capable clients in the chart of my dedicated article at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350181
Maybe not the most efficient way, but the way I went after this was to install Core Player then, on my PC, go to the Shoutcast website and right click the Tune In link and select 'Save As'. I then named the .pls file after the station. Once I saved a bunch of stations I was interested in, I copied the (very small) .pls files to my device (AT&T Fuze). I now just launch Core Player, Click Menu, Click Open File, and select the .pls file for the station I want to listen to.
It is a bit of hassle to gather up all the .pls files you want, but this works very well for me. I work in a cubicle at work where our proxy blocks everything enjoyable, so with my HTC ear buds and my phone plugged into USB for power, my work day is much more enjoyable with music to listen to.
Edit: I just tried jamespaulritter's link above, and it works fabulously. I just click Tune In on the station I want, and it goes right to Core Player and gets down to business. Thanks, jamespaulritter!
Kinoma Play
Comes with SHOUTcast , and Live365 in the services menu.
I went ahead and bought Kinoma Play. Holy cow, man! This thing is the holy grail of portable entertainment!
Yeah, it is really versitile and I love the guide content. I just wish the menu system worked better. back, back, back, back to get to the main menu gets old.
Thanks! love this site

LIVE TV ON YOUR PHONE
I wrote this guide along time ago in other xda-developers thread, this is the updated version.
There are several ways for watching live TV on your phone, I don't watch live TV on my phone, hope you find it useful though.
(UPDATE 10/15/2010)
TV SERIES ON DEMAND ARE AVAILABLE HERE: http://x.vu/179650
(UPDATE 7/14/2010)
First -MobiTV
After testing it out it is one of the best apps for watching TV on your phone, there are 2 versions, one included on the USA HD2 and the version found on the mobitv website.
Back in early 2009 I manage to hack the 1 day free trail version, it was after they release a patched version and removing the .vars wouldnt work anymore however I never notify mobitv about it, I never post my findings online because I didn't wanna get sued, however the hack doesn't work anymore.
Second -Mobile free TV http://www.mobilefree.tv
Never tested this one out.
Third -Skyfire http://www.skyfire.com/
Skyfire is one of the best ways to watch live tv.
Some useful links to use with skyfire are:
http://www.myfreetvsite.com
http://wwitv.com
http://www.mobilefree.tv
If you know more links please post your comments.
Fourth -SPB Online or SPB TV http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/tv/
One amazing application with poor channel lineup, the programing suck (at least for me) thats all im going to say.
(update)
as off June 8th 2010 SPB TV is NOW FREE
Fifth -HandiTV http://classic.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=22918
I used this app once, didn't really like it.
Sixth -artn3r’s mobile tv http://winmo.artn3r.com/?p=12#more-12
In its early stages didn't got may attention because it had channels in German and some other language however it may be useful to you.
"This is my first windows mobile application, it’s a player for online
streaming content like movies or radio. I started this app because
everytime I wanted to view the tv news i had to open the opera
browser and navigate to the specific website. With this application,
only 3 taps are needed to watch your favourite tv or radio show!"
Seventh -Online TVx http://www.onlinetvx.com/
800+ channels this app will keep you entertained for hours, one of the features that many of you will quickly notice and will definitely like is that it has ADULT channels such as Playboy.
"Online TVx is one of the most popular and downloadable online TV programs in the Internet. This complete professional program gives you an instant access to more than 1000 TV channels categorized by genres and countries."
MORE LIVE TV LINKS CAN BE FOUND IN THIS THREAD HERE (which is the actual FULL guide)
Post your comments, links and programs you use.
wow cool thanks for this.
Thank you very much
thanks alot
downloading mobitv now if u know an hacker dont post here but email me xD
Nice one, thanks very much will test it tomorrow..
Too bad none of those "TV" apps show anything worth watching. Wish cable TV would start streaming even if for a fee. At least that way someone could watch something worth watching.
I still think ORB is really your best bet right now. You have to have a PC at home with a TV tuner - but it works quite well.
www.orb.com
...its freeware - and what you end up with is you can stream any TV channel you can get on your home cableTV or satalite to your PPC or any other computer. Really kinda cool.

Actually I stop working on hacking mobiTV along time ago since I don't watch TV and as soon as some one hacks it and makes a post online the guys over at mobiTV are on your case in no time trying to sue you.
i have SPB TV on my HD2, if i click on a channel it says Opening.. goes into landscape and goes back with the headin Opening and it stays there.
Works fine on my HD2
but Ihave a strong signal and get pretty fast download speeds (1.5 mps). Works even better on wi-fi speeds of 3.5+. A couple of stations seem to load the buffer and play then load and play again no matte what the signal and download speed.

Hi there,
Does anyone know of any good sites I can watch live tv on my HD2?
Perhaps including satellite channels..
Thanks in advance..
The best site I have found so far, is http://www.tvcatchup.com
BUT you need to use Skyfire as your browser as it needs flash support.
Seems to work nice, it does quite a few channels, but it is a live service, so what you see is what is actually broadcasting on that channel now.
You should actually need a TV license for it, as it is live.
thanks thats great
i'll try this later, cheers.
For the basic channels (including the world cup games) use myplayer, one of the best programs available for the hd2 imho - also has iplayer, premiership matches (not live) catch up (4OD,5 etc.) and pay stuff.
ye myplayer is ace
http://www.skynetsoftware.com/myPlayer/index.aspx
Im gonna use it to watch the match tonight when im in work
I cant get anything to work for tonights game... myplayer, opera ... i installed flashlite too... nothing...
Try this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=338350
You need to register (free) but it works a treat.
myplayer works fine for me!
http://www.skynetsoftware.com/myPlayer/index.aspx
It does say that you'll need Coreplayer installed as well to watch the Live TV though!
¹ CorePlayer is required to view the Live Digital TV (UK) streams
Click to collapse
You don't actually need coreplayer for the live tv. Just set the digital tv quality to std or low on the options menu and then u can using streamingplayer or wmp - which needs to be set as ur rtmp player.

I wrote a guide about that!
Does anyone know of a way to watch 4OD?
Thats pretty much the only thing I want to watch on the move and Its one of the few things I cant get working.
Myplayer doesnt show it in any lists unless Im missing something. Was it removed from the latest version of myplayer? I ask that because Ive seen more than a couple of people state that 4od is included in myplayer.
Do the old versions of myplayer still have working 4od?
Any other way to watch it?
Skyfire just gives me a black screen when I try to watch any of the 4od streams.
Anyone got this working at all???
one thing I love about my 360 is that it will stream music from my pc. Is there an app for android that will allow me to do this on my evo?

I really wish there was a zune app for android as well that let me stream/use my zune collection however since it is microsoft owned and run i highly doubt we will ever see it. May have to switch to rhapsody soon and stop streaming from mp3 for the ability to stream from phone (mp3 player has a lot more music to choose from so I think it would be much more worth while to have the streaming capability on the device with less music)
any way if you find a 3rd party app or some way to do this please post it
I would recommend Subsonic(subsonic.org). It would need a dedicated computer to run on and host your music files, but you would then be able to stream your entire music library anywhere that you have an internet connection.
It does have some quirks but for the most part its pretty awesome. It even comes with an android app but you will have to 'donate' to use it.
Edit: Guess I should mention that you wouldn't be able to play protected files, and afik you would never be able to unless MS released a Zune pass for linux(which most likely will never happen).
you could try rdio its pretty awesome, works pretty much just like a zune pass except you can use it on iphones, android phones, and your computer. i use it with the evo and its pretty sweet. i dropped my zune pass subscription for it, although i do miss ripping the drm out of the the zune pass music i used to download lol

lol Same on drm. I will have to take a look at it. the main reason i have a zune pass is i have a zune MP3 player which doesnt support streaming from things like subsonic etc. I love the smart dj feature on it letting it find new music for me but i find myself leaving it at home and just using the 100 or so songs i have on my phone more and more. Will let you know what i think thanks for the input
Yeah rdio has a smart DJ thing too. They call it artist radio. Its a little hardbto find in app right bow but the app devs really listen to their customers will actually make it much easier to use artist radio in next release. App is updated pretty regularly.
edit: they actually just updated the app now to use the artist radio you can just long press on an artist in your collection
this app just gets better and better
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Gmote works well for streaming my mp3s from my home pc to my EVO. It can stream over 3g/4g or via wifi (but only on your home network. I haven't found a way to stream remotely with wifi).
Homepipe works pretty well as both a FTP client and mp3 streamer.
I am using Subsonic now because it streams over 3g/4g and wifi seamlessly. The only problem I am having with it is that after I installed the hosting software on my home PC my browser got hijacked to redirect to the subsonic log-in but the address is always "ad.doubleclick" or some other ad-type place. I am trying to figure it out.
EDIT: Updated my Hosts file and switched to a less obvious port and all is golden now. Subsonic is now my fave music app!
EDIT 2:I've discovered that Subsonic copies the music files to your SD card. Not a problem if I just remember to clean up every once in a while.
Maybe somebody knows some good app for Android which can stream wma files as well as mms:// web content ?
I know only one app yxplayer, but I really don't like the interface and it can't stream in background. When you minimize app it automatically closes. I have not tried paid version so.
Help appreciated,
Whitealien
Overview of available mms streaming apps (currently known to me):
1. RadioTime [Paid] [Rating 4.09]
[ + ] pretty awesome app with more than 3000 predefined world wide radio stations. Really nice interface, finds radio logos, possibility to save presets and chose varios streaming bitrates if available. Direct search option or find by radio stations by genre, language or country. Reads podcasts.
[ - ] not possible to add custom urls. Paid. Try TuneIn before purchasing this.
2. TuneIn Radio [Free] [Rating 4.62]
[ + ] same as RadioTime, but free. Really nice app.
[ - ] not possible to add custom urls. It works only with WiFi, wtf!!!!
3. yxplayer [Free/Paid] [Rating 3.42]
[ + ] currently the only app I know which allows to add custom radio urls
[ - ] other than that this is holy crap. Interface is horrible. It does not play in background. I understand that this app was developed to play or stream video files, but then video playback on HTC Hero was horrible. So I did not tried paid version, maybe its better.
For test purposes:
Radio name: Radio SWH
Address: mms://80.232.162.149/SWH_stereo
Protocol: mms
Audio format: wma
Bitrate:128Kbps 44100 Hz
Stereo: Yes
Last update: 21/09/2010
Are you trying to stream .wma from home or something? I'm not sure about mms: but Subsonic is pretty awesome. You can stream just about anything....mp3 wma flac...whatever. The Android app is free but you have to pay for the server side portion after 30 days. It's well worth it I can assure you....

+1 for subsonic. I use it so i have access to all my music. Just need to make a donation (of any amount) to the developer so the android app works past the 30 day trial.
Technically I want to stream Web radio which uses wma standard and mms:// protocol.
No, I'm not streaming audio from my home network.

Do you have a sample link we could play around with? I have a EVO and I'm a bit curious as to what it would do with the extension.
Have you looked at the app RadioTime ? It's very nice and has about any channel I can think of that is web broadcasting.

Unfortunately Radiotime is paid app. While its pretty awesome with over than 3000 predefined radio stations it does not allow to add custom urls . Also there is free add supported version of this app called Tune In which I recommend to try before buying Radiotime.
Radio I'm trying to stream is mms://80.232.162.149/SWH_stereo
I'll try to keep this thread updated with available radio streaming apps.
Thank you so much for all the info. Until now I was using YX player with the horrible interface. Recently the YX player stopped working for my mms URL so I had to find something else. I was looking for weeks until I saw this post.
Eventhough TuneIn Radio will not allow me to add urls I found the radio I was looking for among the thousands available. The interface is great and the sound quality was good as well.
I highly recommend this app and I would be willing to purchase the paid version if it gives more options than the free version.
my TuneIn Radio works over 3G
so
yeah
Maybe it has to do with the fact that I also have RadioTime
What about mms protocol videos/movies? Thanks!
