Listen to my zune collection on my evo? - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

one thing I love about my 360 is that it will stream music from my pc. Is there an app for android that will allow me to do this on my evo?
Thanks advance

I really wish there was a zune app for android as well that let me stream/use my zune collection however since it is microsoft owned and run i highly doubt we will ever see it. May have to switch to rhapsody soon and stop streaming from mp3 for the ability to stream from phone (mp3 player has a lot more music to choose from so I think it would be much more worth while to have the streaming capability on the device with less music)
any way if you find a 3rd party app or some way to do this please post it

I would recommend Subsonic(subsonic.org). It would need a dedicated computer to run on and host your music files, but you would then be able to stream your entire music library anywhere that you have an internet connection.
It does have some quirks but for the most part its pretty awesome. It even comes with an android app but you will have to 'donate' to use it.
Edit: Guess I should mention that you wouldn't be able to play protected files, and afik you would never be able to unless MS released a Zune pass for linux(which most likely will never happen).

you could try rdio its pretty awesome, works pretty much just like a zune pass except you can use it on iphones, android phones, and your computer. i use it with the evo and its pretty sweet. i dropped my zune pass subscription for it, although i do miss ripping the drm out of the the zune pass music i used to download lol

lol Same on drm. I will have to take a look at it. the main reason i have a zune pass is i have a zune MP3 player which doesnt support streaming from things like subsonic etc. I love the smart dj feature on it letting it find new music for me but i find myself leaving it at home and just using the 100 or so songs i have on my phone more and more. Will let you know what i think thanks for the input

Yeah rdio has a smart DJ thing too. They call it artist radio. Its a little hardbto find in app right bow but the app devs really listen to their customers will actually make it much easier to use artist radio in next release. App is updated pretty regularly.
edit: they actually just updated the app now to use the artist radio you can just long press on an artist in your collection
this app just gets better and better

Gmote works well for streaming my mp3s from my home pc to my EVO. It can stream over 3g/4g or via wifi (but only on your home network. I haven't found a way to stream remotely with wifi).
Homepipe works pretty well as both a FTP client and mp3 streamer.
I am using Subsonic now because it streams over 3g/4g and wifi seamlessly. The only problem I am having with it is that after I installed the hosting software on my home PC my browser got hijacked to redirect to the subsonic log-in but the address is always "ad.doubleclick" or some other ad-type place. I am trying to figure it out.
EDIT: Updated my Hosts file and switched to a less obvious port and all is golden now. Subsonic is now my fave music app!
EDIT 2:I've discovered that Subsonic copies the music files to your SD card. Not a problem if I just remember to clean up every once in a while.

Music sync wirelessly...

1stly id like to say android is such a brilliant step up from my old Nokia 5800/N95 but there are a few things I'm missing!
Being able to Bluetooth sync my music whenever in range of my pc was a godsend. It was just nice to have my phone show up in windows media player without any wires.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've tried web sharing lite which is brilliant but not as integrated as I'd like
Also, I recently bought the Sony Ericcson MW600 stereo bluetooth headset, its been brilliant for playing music on but ive only recieved one call while in use and the volume seemed to be none existant any clues as to whats going on there? It was such a pain to have to turn BT off and re-take the call on the phone.

i use TuneSync for wifi syncing with iTunes.
Works fine
Double twist was just released might want to check that out.
Yep I tried doubletwist the app seemed good but the desktop client is appalling, shame that but it also doesn't sync wirelessly

tunesync
I bought this last night (well, eventually, seems the Market's still being a bit screwy - it was hanging on Authorising Purchase...) and it's pretty excellent. Small free app install on Windows/OSX iTunes side, install app on handset, tell it which PC and which playlist to sync and, well, leave it alone. Works great, I'm impressed.
But im assuming I would have to use Itunes to gain any use?
great ;(
why not use one of those wifi file transfer programs?
i used afile and discovery to move photos and songs back and forth. doesn't 'sync', but still allows wireless transfer of songs.
I use TuneSync, the first sync is a little iffy (i had 10gbs of music to sync) but once you get passed that it works OK enough for me.

I didnt like it, but it works! High price, I would say just torrent it!

[REQ]Zune media player, possible or not

Now I am no dev but I was wondering if it would be possible to create a media player that can sync with the desktop zune software and have a similar UI that plays all my protected content. I love my zune hd but part of the reason I bought this phone is so I only need to carry one device for all my multimedia needs. If this is possible ad there are any devs willing to work I would gladly make a donation of $50-$100 for a working app

I would wager 10x that amount that it will never happen..
I have a ZuneHD and f*ckin love it. However, Microsoft won't do it because thats one of the big draws for WP7, and we can't do it because there is no code to base it on. It's all Microsoft's protected content.
However, there is one option. I don't think its against any XDA rules to post this, and if it is I'll remove it, but I won't put links anyway. Just look up Daniusoft Digital Media Converter. I know it's expensive, ~$50 I think, but I bought it, and it's totally worth it. I have gotten way more use than that out of it. It'll let you convert your Zune Pass music to MP3 and then you can sync it to your Android with Doubletwist & the like. I know it's more work, but it does work.

But at that point, why not just download torrents with higher quality music? I mean, you could make the argument I guess that you have a right to that music even though you are explicitly only renting it .? ?.? . Save the 50 dollars and just join a good private torrent site like what or waffles.
Also, to the OP, if you only want to carry the Epic 4g for all of your multimedia needs, why do you need it to sync with the Zune software? I assume its because of the zune pass?

I don't know. I find this easier than torrent sites TBH. I'm a lazy ass, and I paid for convenience lol. This way it keeps all the metadata, and I don't have to sort it manually, and I do feel better in that I did actually pay for the music in one way or another.
I don't subscribe to zunepass or anything, I just have a lot of songs and movies I've paid for and would like them on my phone, and TBH I really like the zune media player interface
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
For a zune interface, they do have a zune home replacement launcher but it's pretty awful. Really if you want the zune media interface get a windows phone 7... what you're asking for is foolish to be frank.
If you paid for movies and music, it should be drm free, then just transfer it to your sd card. Its what I do.

Not sure how you could call it foolish? It is widely accepted that the zune hd has a great interface. It is also very simple and would be fairly easy for an android developer to make a clone of it. The fact that no one has is pretty surprising. Hooking in drm and zunepass is obviously not gonna fly with ms but that is not what the op wants, and that is not needed. If someone made a fluid zune clone for the marketplace and sold it for a few bucks a I bet they could make a killing.

What do you mean they didnt play? I have the zune pass and with my ten songs a month. Those tracks are currently on my phone and they place with no problem. Videos as well. I did how ever have to use rockplayer for the videos. But the stock player worked fine for the mp3's.
Edit: I also did have to edit the tags to get them to show up... Can just edit the tags, right click the file -> props then add in whats needed. Forgot that part. =p

I've mentioned this before, and I'd hope it'd be launching today but it did not: Google Music, as it is currently known, will search your computer for music and then give you access to the music you already own to be streamed to another device while also allowing you to buy more music.
Yeah i heard about that It really sucks though, spotify is ok but they dont have everything i want lol

I understand the issue...I have 65 gigs of music which I've trimmed down to 32gigs for my iPod and now I would rather use the most convenient solution of my phone but I don't know how I can cut it down that much.
How did you cut down to 32? Just didnt transfer all of it?

Ya...I'm starting to understand the complaint =/
Two of the best options that I have tested that are available now are Audiogalaxy and Subsonic.
Audio galaxy is extremely simple to setup and is a pure streaming option as it does not cache the songs to your device. It has an option to stream the music in high quality or in lower quality if you are in a non 3g/wifi area. Also, its 100% free.
Subsonic is more difficult to setup because you have to enable port forwarding on your router. Some people do no like to open up ports on their router because of the potential security risk. Subsonic not only streams the music to your device but it also cache's to your internal storage which comes in handy if your signal drops. Another feature is via a web page you can download any song in your library, my brother downloaded have of my library from his pc at his house. The web service is free but after an initial 30 day trial the android app costs, cant remember how much atm.
Overall I prefer audiogalaxy for its simplicity and ease of use.
Do you find it heavy on your data usage?
The main issue I have with audiogalaxy and subsonic is that you need to have your computer (source) constantly on or else you wont be able to stream it to your phone.
mspot is a good choice to put your music directly onto its servers so you can play it from the cloud. however it only offers 2gb free and if you want 10gb+ of online storage you have to pay per month.
I have decided to go with grooveshark and rdio for my music streaming. at least i get an endless selection of songs and I can download the songs and albums Im interested in listening to at that point in time.

There is an easy setup guide for subsonic. Just search subsonic here and it should show up. I'd prefer subsonic over audiogalaxy simply because it supports folder structures. I don't use playlists much because all of my music are organized via folders.

Subsonic only uses data if the music isn't cached on your phone already. So if you find yourself listening to different music every single day, then it might use a lot of data. Otherwise, if the music is already saved in your storage, it will just play it from there rather than streaming it again. You can also set up the storage size you want it to take up on your internal storage. I set mine up at 500 MB.
Also, subsonic is supporting videos. Not all formats yet since they are still working on it, but they are supporting one video format (forgot what it was).

Audiogalaxy

This app is the best thing since sliced bread IMO. Instead of having to worry about having enough room on your microSD for all your music you can simply stream it directly to your device or through any computer (at work!). The app is pretty good too with shuffling, queueing (which I WISH the stock music player had!!!), repeating, playlists, etc. Check it out guys! It's all free and no ads!
Just installed it.... pretty damn sweet, does just what it says. I wouldn't think it would eat up the battery any more than using Pandora.
How is audiogalaxy and its impact on data? I don't use Pandora much unless I'm on wifi (work or home), 2GB data plan from the Death Star. not worried about battery, just the data.
Pretty sweet app. Thanks for the heads up.

I found that Subsonic works better for me. Not to trash your thread or anything. Audiogalaxy is good, too. Due to security at my work I can't use Audiogalaxy because streaming music is blocked. Subsonic uses a url that I assigned, so work doesn't see it and it is not blocked.

Why would you need to sync over 3G? If you're not home, your music collection isn't being updated at home. I suggest an alternative like Amazon's Cloud Player Storage, which is free 5GB, or pay 69cents for a song and get 20 GB for a year free.
Actually, I should have worded it better. I don't actually want my music to wireless sync. I just want it to be able to wirelessly stream the music from my iTunes to my device. I don't want any actual mp3s stored on the SD card. Saw a video of this working at a Google IO event, I believe, and was just wondering if any apps were out there that has this ability.

Yeah, that's what doubletwist does. The problem is Apple doesn't play nice with other devices, so DoubleTwist fills the void. It takes your iTunes playlists and puts them onto your Android device. I don't use their streaming or wireless sync, I just plug in using a cable and connect that way.
Many like the Doubletwist program, but the issue I have with it is it doesn't have an equalizer built in so the audio is poor, but fortunately it even adds the playlists to the built in Music player in Android, so that Equalizer works great!
Give it a shot, I think it's what you're looking for.

Been reading up on the app and from my understanding, the wireless sync option saves a copy of your music on the SD card and then creates the same playlist you have on your iTunes. Going to give it a shot, but I'm still searching for an app that wirelessly streams all the music on your computer without saving hard copies on the SD card.
