As the title really - since HTC and various carriers have now released Official WM6 ROMs for some devices (Hermes, Herald etc), is anyone working on porting one of these over to the Wizard?
The build of the Official Hermes ROM is 5.2.1437 (Build 17944), I am sure a lot of Wizard users would like to see this, me included
Andy
yep..i'd like to see it too
eluth is doing so with the Herald/T-Mo Wing ROM.
nice to hear...
i must ask: what is the point?
to get to land of unstability?
what gain you are predicting....
Nothin, I'm inclined to agree. 15342 is the most stable build I've used yet. The Herald ROM doesn't even have Office 2003, VoIP or even the latest Windows Live. The only advantage I can think of is that the XIP section from the Herald perhaps allows you to pack more into the ROM. This is borne out by the fact that the Herald has the same amount of memory as the Wizard, yet the dump shows up around 135 mb on disk which is way more than the Wizard .nb can handle without thowing an error in build_imgfs.
If anyone can do it, eluth probably can, but I don't think many people will be joining in developing this one. I just lost my Wizard and though I have a brand new one coming , it's probably a G4 and I have a little catching up to do on that end before I can even think of something of this magnitude.

I was thinking to maybe increase stability.....
I agree 15342 is probably the most stable release so far, however up until these official releases everthing so far has been pre-release stuff that has been leaked whether it was originally from a Wizard or not.
I still have issues with 15342, plus a lot of the underlying software is at least a year old. I would just like something new to play with......
Andy
any update if anyone working on the Official Release from HTC for Hermes / Dopod 838 pro / etc?
It is nice if we can feel the stability of this official release. Thanks.
Does anybody have a link to an extracted version of one of these roms? By extracted, I mean the actual files and rgu's.
This is what I am running on my Wizard and in my opinion, it is by far the best and fastest. No problems, Microsoft voice command is built in and works perfect. WiFi connects without a hitch, Bluetooth pairs and stays connected.....It is missing MMS and has office 2003. If you need MMS, there are many versions posted that you can add.

I think you are dreaming. You are talking about rting a rom from one device (yes where it is stable) to another, then grafting drivers for the wizard onto it plus whatever else it will take/need and then you think it will be stable? 15431 and 15432 only became stable through lots of work and trial and error. I'm still not convinced they are any more stable thann the "official" 318 rom (and that isn't as stable as it was originally due to the updating and grafting done in most of those).
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for porting, but don't expect a stable rom on one device to keep the stability on another device.
BTW: I still think a lot of the newer WM6 builds have nothing new in them other than support for newer hardware or specifics for a carrier.

Ok, thanx for the advice. I am too, currently stick to the clean Official wizard ROM, which found to be most stable and fast. Though, I have tested a lot of ROM out there.
I don't know how well a ROM from another device would work on ours but over in the Hermes corner which might be the brother of ours. Cingular calls ours the 8125 and the Hermes 8525. They have a new OFFICIAL AT&T Windows Mobile 6 Rom that has them all shook up. There have been 20 pages of posts in 2 days.

it's nothing special...basically what we already had, but with all the cingular add-on stuff... like Push to Talk and stuff... and it's bloated to death...lol..
What was the release date?
7/10/07 .. it wasnt officially released, it's a leak... but thats the ROM date .. came with a new RADIO too 1.48..
Sounds good, much newer than the one over here. Good luck with it.
The only thing that i like about it is the fact that i can now have wm6 with a working PTT

Does it expose any problems at all?
I guess you must have done a lot of registry fixes, right? I mean, Hermes uses different driver stacks (I assume) and most probably they require different settings, which are device specific..
I would really try this out (especially because it solves the BT re-pairing problem), but firstly I wanted to make sure it is of minor risk and to understand what might be the time investment to get it to work.
OK, so back when I first got my phone the weekend ATT started selling I upgraded FROM the nasty ATT ROM to:
RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship
That ROM has served me extremely well. I LOVE the menu on the home screen...
Recently however I was wondering what ROM would improve some of the issues I've been having since then.
#1: I travel a lot, mostly by car and notice my phone has problems finding/switching to new towers. I want a new RADIO version.
#2: there are annoying hiccups and pauses at critical times (when using medical software) and even when not, I was hoping for a ROM with a little more speed and even less fluff.
#3: I want to be able to open office docs, pdfs, and like most of the software I have no (i.e. not looking to get a super stripped version of a ROM)
#4: I want a proven ROM with absolutely no known issues (I once thought about upgrading my radio version a while back and at page 20-something of a thread saw people where having major problems). I'll sacrifice the bleeding edge newest for a little older, stable version.
Suggestions? Recommendations?
Thanks
Well most people like Dutty's ROMs since he updates frequently and are pretty fast and come with a TON of stuff in them. I went for Alex's UltraClean Multimedia AT&T Version ROM. It seems to work fine for me and has had no stability problems. Like you, I use my Kaiser for work(I do IT Consulting) and while not as critical as anything of your profession, I do need full up-time period and Alex's ROM has met the Call to Duty and it fast and stable! Hope this answers your question.
I would suggest Alex's ultra clean then going to Dutty's cab collection and Getting the programs you need like Office and anything else you may want you can find in Dutty's cab collection he has posted.
Thats the route i went and it seems to be working for me =)
Currently using the Last tilt specific beta and it works well.
What current dutty rom is 1) most stable
2) most likely not to need a keyboard fix
3) most like the one currently using
4) which radio to us if in United states or is this just trial and eror?
I have done the reading, but don't know which to try next. This is my work phone and I can't be down for the count if I screw things up.
Any advice would be appreciated. If I am not going to gain much from upgrading, please advise.

Why is everyone flooding this forum with questions like these?
1) You have to find out yourself, but V3 (will be released soon) seems to be stable
2) Tilt will always need Keyboard fix, cause of the different keyboard layout
3) The most like your current ROM?? Hmmm.... Maybe one without changes??
4) There is a thread (sticky) about Radio ROMs. Read that thread, and when you download a ROM just see what Radio ROMs are compatible.
1. N/A because I don't run any of them for over 24 hours. His ROM factory has a good production.
2. All of them need a keyboard fix unless you flash a mentioned at&t version. To my expriences, always keep the keyboardfix cab handy in card.
3. N/A. Flashing a different ROM is highly addictive action.
4. x.xx.xx.11, .17 or .32 is fine. .09 for at&t specified ROMs only.

I've got a tilt as well and I'm running Dutty's DualTouch V.2 Medium...
As for what's most stable? They're all pretty stable. try a couple and decide for yourself.
The keyboard fix is unfortunately a necessity for any rom originally designed for an HTC branded Kaiser. The Cingular/AT&T tilt has a slightly different keyboard setup than the HTC branded Kaiser. HOWEVER... I wouldn't worry about it. there are several SUPER easy ways to fix it, the most popular seem to be a cab file available from Dutty's download site in his signiture and a utility called Advance Config 1.1
If you're looking for something like your original AT&T rom... Look elsewhere... Dutty has done a good job of modifying this rom with ALOT of different packages. Most of the familiar apps are there but you may be able to access them in different ways. Also he has tweaked and tuned things to work better than originally.
As for the radio there is a sticky that gives a real good overview of the different radios. But most of it is trial and error based on a) the rom you are using and b) the configuration of the network you are using. I live in an area that is JUST getting 3G and has NO HSPDA So most of the roms seem to work about the same (ugh...) But others have reported that one works better or has better battery life... it's often a give and take and seems to be ALOT of subjectivity. but one thing... the "AT&T" 14.09 radio doesn't work with most Kaiser based ROMs. So unless the rom your using is specifically built for it (most of Dutty's aren't) don't bother you'll have problems with no sound and other things.
Hope this helps! but my best advice... READ READ READ... there's ALOT of info out there. And realize that like most threads, questions that people feel are already answered will bring about some rather curt posts from people. So try to be sure your question hasn't already been answered somewhere else.
thank all for the advice. May make the switch over to a dual touch rom over a holiday when I don't need the phone.
You all have been much more patient than most with some semi newb questions that I have had. I know I don't add much to the "development" discussion, but I sure as hell can break some things and make people feel smart when the tell me how to fix it (or "f" off and search the forums, newb).
The radio install is the only sort of "out there" portion of this whole thing and I will do my homework before my next flash.
radio
I have tested both .17 and .32 and I like .17 better I notice little diff. in battery life but service seems better and the internet is much better. I'm in the mid west and I have HSDPA service mostly.
Hello, I have a Cingular 8125 G3.
I flashed to Farias WM6 Crossbow a while back but i've been having problems here and there, not as stable as it once was, and i've hard reset several times the past week to correct problems.
How does the Faria rom rate to the other Wm6 roms out there?
Which ones can you recommend to try? I don't care for things that have lots of addon apps, just stable Wm6. I've been reading the threads here and can't decide. Obviously this isn't official releases so 100% compatibility isn't guaranteed, but which one has been proven to be least problematic?
You should look through each of the ROM's threads and see what kind of problems the posters are having. Asking a blanket question of "What's best?" is just going to repeat what's in the other threads.
NBD
I have used 2 to 3 roms. but so far the NBD rocks
although NBD 8.2(I had) got slow and gets into problems as the time passes. but may be its caz it windows. And its win's tradition to get things messed up after some times as in PC.
Now I am using the TNT latest with 1933 build, and I dont know why people are dying praising him as being killing fast. I ain't experience that fastness. those apps on the today screen contiously sucking up the speed and the battery power as well.
Now I am thinkin to build my own, if untill then I wont see the latest from NBD.
Note: I dont mean to offend anyone, its just my experience.
Most stable WM5 rom
What about Most stable WM5 rom? Would that be the Cingular Stock Rom or a Faria rom or something else?
Flashed the NBD's ROM v8.3 and I found out the following bugs:
a. Didn't find it to be fast, as per the rumors.
b. QuickMenu would pop-up every now and then whenever I touched the softkeys.
c. TouchFlo sucked, maybe I didn't get used to it.
and few minor ones...
Then I flashed the TNT's 1933 and few of the bugs are:
a. Battery drain has increased
b. Although faster than NBD's ROM, but every now and then, it lags.
c. Don't know if it happened to others...but during the call and when the device goes in power-saving mode, when I try to access the task bar (start menu bar)...can't access it...
Now, am going to flash mfrazz's ROM, so can't say much about that...
SO, Basically, there isn't an ideal custom ROM...there are a few bugs in almost everyone...its just how many can one bear...and if you can't stick to the OEM ROM....
P.S. I appreciate the efforts of all the cookers...don't mean to offend 'em...apologies if I did...after all its because of them we newbies can enjoy the taste of the new ROMs...THANKS to all the cookers....
I'm just tired of deleting this kind of threads...so i figured ..if you can't beat them, join them.
That's pretty funny Anichillus. Heck, I may have to get back into cooking.
Doesn't this kind of thread go against forum politics? I think it's actually a good idea that this thread was stickied. Now all of the people who want to ask that same question: "Which WM6 ROM is best?" all have a place to go to read other's opinions first before actually posting and asking the same question on their on and even post feedback here so others know what is going on with certain ROMs before ever flashing their device...
Anyways... Since this thread doesn't appear to be getting deleted any time soon. I will say what I have learned from trying almost 50-60 different ROMs.
I have found that if you want the latest build, go with TNT. If you want stability, XM6R3/4 are great ROMs. I personally have found from experimenting that an older build such as the 1437 build combined with the 2.19.11 UK Radio is one of the best combinations you could ask for.
Up until my Wizard fell in the toilet and completely fried, I had been using TNT.1437 TouchFlo. Now All WM6 ROMs have bugs but I found this ROM to be very stable with only minor, almost un-noticeable bugs that can be corrected quite easily. Combine this with the 2.19.11 T-Mobile UK Radio and I never had memory leaks, I never had lockups, I never had the dreaded stopping at Splash Screen problem. To put it simply, I never really had any of the bugs mentioned in the forums using that combination.
WWP
i read from post 1-5 and only got single impression-
Worms World Party
sorry
I have done some benchmark tests between some ROMs, i shall post them soon online so you can see the differences. And i give my comment too on some ROMs.
I said it somewhere before - asking which ROM is the best has about the same sense as asking which religion is the best...
In other words - pointless question leading just to fruitless arguments...

Don't get me wrong, I agree...and I think most of us here agree on that.
The reason I stickied this thread is that everyday another "what's the best" or "what rom should i use" kind of threads appears. By adding this one to the top, I am hoping to avoid that.
So...proud users, post here the rom you use, add a poll ...do whatever you want, but please no more new threads.
Hi,
Actually, I'm using Core2.0n ROM but I want to switch to another one because of some big issues with A2DP and my BT Headset (Sony DR-B720NX). Audio drops frequently.
Let me say that Core2.0n is a very fast and good ROM but I can't survive without my BT Headset and A2DP.
So, another ROM suggestion is welcome. (FYI Someone told me to try TNT.1933... But I still didn't flash it).
Thanks to all for your feedback.
Jaguar 3.1 (AT&T) works the best for me. I have flashed every rom that has come out and the only Rom that has speed and no Bluetooth problems is Jaguar 3.1 with Radio 2.47.00. I am on the AT&T network and have the 8125 G3. The newer roms I flashed seem to have problems with Bluetooth and battery drain, and thats even with the Battery drain fix.
"What works best for me might not work for others."
The reason the question keeps coming up is that the current method of generating 1000-post threads with bugs/fixes scattered throughout makes it basically impossible to know the "functionality" status of a ROM without actually installing it and waiting for the problems to appear...
What is really needed is a quick STANDARDIZED summary for each ROM, posted in its thread's FIRST POST that lists the currently identified/reported bugs. This list would have to be updated WEEKLY at a minimum in order to be considered "current".
Any ROM thread that doesn't maintain an active and accurate list in the FIRST POST should be DELETED to save everyone a LOT of time.
For example, key features should be listed as working/not working/patch required (i.e., wifi, bluetooth, GPRS/Edge, camera, battery usage, buttons, voice command, etc.) along with a specific and accurate description of the issues.

I did tried to do that with my roms and I am pretty sure that most of chefs here also...but as you can imagine it's really really hard and time consuming to develop a rom and then take care of ~500 + posts. People that really care about they're PDA's won't mind reading as much as possible until they know what they want and how to do it.
OK OK OK
I have experimented many Roms
TNT 1437 Touchflo
The touchflo is amazing! works fine.
issue on some performance...
no beam
sucks battery
slow at all, its working fine, but i try to recomend 10 mb page pool.
NBD V 7.X
To much problems with phone poor signal, no signal etc.
no beam IR, no NOTES. no excel.
Slow, TO much batery problems.
Octaivoi 5.8
I tried many roms, but this one is my favourite. Also he Blackdiamond 3.1 and nbd 9.1 are really good wm6 roms.

I also use Jaguar, and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I have flashed soooooo many rom's...I swear I DO need a 12 step program. After all is said and done I keep coming back to my beloved Jaguar. It isn't Vanilla, but it also isn't jam packed with crap I will NEVER EVER use. It is a nice balance between the 2. It is VERY stable and allows many 3rd party programs to be installed while still giving space. It isn't the fastest, but it isn't slow by any means...and it is quicker than some. But again, I could care less about zippyness...this is a really nice and stable rom. The battery gets me a day, day and a half...not faboo, but other roms had me charging once or twice a day. BT is not an issue at all, as it is in some other roms. I installed the 5 button HTC Home without issue, even customized it- again without problems. I run SPB apps without problems, have easily 20 games (they don't lag), I watch movies and stream Orb as well as MobiTV with little lag issues. I'd highly recommend it. I too am running Radio 2.47 and have great connectivity.
That being said...the only bug I noticed is that for some crazy reason, active sync sometimes decides it does not want to sync...but I have also noticed this with other roms, so it may not be so much a Jaguar issue as perhaps a WM6 issue.
my two cents...
I'm running BlackDiamond 3.1 and its pretty stable, quick touchflo with cube and very few bugs that i've come across.
I am new to this forum. I have taken a look and did some searches on this topic I need help with but really cant find a good answer but I hope I didn't double post or anything. I just need some of you experienced rom users out there to compare 3 roms for me which I narrowed down and plan on sticking with.
1) Dutty 6.1 Hybrid (Apr-29 lite version)
2) RoMeOS v4.21.1
3) RoMeOS v3.5
Obviously I know roms are strictly a preference to different people so theres no such thing as "best" rom but I need someone who used all 3 or someone that has the knowledge to tell me which one of these roms:
a) has the least bugs / glitches / problems
b) runs the Fastest and lags the least
c) most stable
I need some help because at this point I have no idea which one to go with even though I briefly tried all three so I need some technical help from you guys that have used them for longer. Thanks in advance.

All three ROM's are so old I don't know if anyone will remember (I have used all three and I can't). Just try them for a few days and see what happens.
Why use these ROM's there are lots of other ROM's at the moment that are still been supported by the chefs?
